Road
It's been a few hours since the horrifying events of the dinosaur showcase. Yvelisse and her newfound ally were driving through a route getting away from the city, and they had finally found some peace no death, no chaos, and especially no dinosaurs. The feeling of the wind on her face was all she needed after this entire fiasco, the feeling that she felt in that place was off and uncomfortable. But this motorcycle ride was the complete opposite, it felt like freedom. In Samuels's eyes, it was all evident that everything would eventually go wrong like it always does, Jurassic World didn't work for a reason.
After hours of nonstop driving, the duo stops by a gas station with a few stores connected to it including a small inn. Yvelisse still had her dress on and since they were heading to a colder terrain she had to adapt, "You need anything?"
"Not exactly." Samuel replied as he prepared to fill the tank, as he was expecting a long ride, "Maybe a few things to tend me."
"Got it." The girl walked into the convenience store, eyeing the cashier. She picked up a first aid kit as she headed to the clothing sector. Yvelisse searched through the shelf, finding a warm jacket, hiking pants, and boots. All set she placed those items on the desk, "How much for all of these."
"45$." The cashier replied with quite a little joy.
"All that?" Yvelisse could not bear hearing that, "I don't have that much."
The cashier responded as she filed her nails "Then you can't buy it."
Yvelisse cussed under her breath, taking a deep breath. Strangely she heard several voices coming from outside, suddenly multiple people gathered in front of a large truck, and now even the cashier. Yvelisse took advantage of the situation and left the money she had left, stealing the items. On her way out she joined the crowd standing by her ally.
It turned out that a truck had hit a Pachyrhinosaurus and was severely injured. The people were recording the situation and obviously posting it all over social media. Samuel observed the creature feeling terrible for it. He knew he had to do something about it. He approached the driver that checked on the creature, "Can you tell me what happened?'
The man clicked his teeth saying, "She was layin' here, didn't her, then bam."
"You're telling me this creature was casually laying down in the middle of the road." Samuel kneeled down while checking her pulse.
"I used to be a volunteer in Africa." The man replied, "I experienced several situations like this before."
"She's in labor." Samuel started looking around at the people. Yvelisse gasped in realization, then forced the crowd to step back, "Give them some space."
"Can we still save her?" The driver asked while carefully stroking the animal's cheeks while keeping track of her breathing.
"Unfortunately I don't think so." Samuel uttered in sadness, "But I assume we could try saving the children."
Yvelisse heard that last sentence, assuming they would need some help.
"Git all of you." The driver demanded, scaring the entire crowd of nosy people away.
The creature was slowly passing. It was trying to survive and using all of its strength to save its offspring. Samuel and the driver worked together to at least try to save the poor creature, Yvelisse observed the operation thinking about how many creatures were victims of roadkill and they just drive right past them, simply ignoring their situation that might've been exactly like this one. Samuel began to caress the creature trying to keep it calm before it followed its sad demise, but unfortunately wasn't working.
Yvelisse sniveled, she couldn't bear looking at the creature "We won't have to cut her open right?"
"No." Samuel replied while still doing the best he could, "We can save at least one hatchling."
The driver began to observe the creature's facial expressions. It slowly closed its eyes but it seemed like it was making an effort. The Pachy was pushing with every strength left in its weak and dying body to pop one egg put. Samuel was ready to catch it and he did. Sadly, the creature passed right after the condition.
Yvelisse kneeled down next to Samuel looking over his shoulder. Samuel observed the egg caressing it and rocking it. Yvelisse wiped her tears. The crowd began to clap at the saviors due to their efforts, the driver stood up mourning in his own way. Samuel handed the egg to Yvelisse as he began to speak, "We didn't only lose a mother tonight, but we lost 99% of her next generation. But as we tried our best to save her and her hatchlings, we managed to save one of them. My friend and I are going to fight for these creatures and for their safety, we will assure that this little guy will get a new safe home away from situations like this, thank you for all of your support and respect."
Yvelisse hugged Samuel tightly, only now did she begin to understand people's views on the world since she only knew her father's view. The driver handed them a backpack, Samuel played with the egg in it stuffing it in with a view cover to keep it warm. Yve now came back wearing winter cloth for the adventure that was undeniably on their way. The two hop back into the road driving further into the mountains.
