Interrogation

The duo is now taken to the nearest Police Department due to them infringing the law, sitting in between Everett and one of the cops, Natalie attempted to break the obvious awkward silence and said, "In our defense, we were trying to do our research."

"Silence." The cop replied, aiming the gun at her, "Keep your answers for later."

"Geez." Natalie scooted over to Everett's side, nearly squashing him to the car's wall.  The other cop gave her a disappointed look.

Natalie looked at her ally, him giving her a confused look. Leaving both shruggings at each other and sighing.

As they arrived at the Police Station, the rangers took them into the waiting room, "Stay here."

The researchers watched as they went to another room, Natalie looked at her friend, "We have two options, one we leave and make this situation worse or two we cooperate with them and see what the future holds for us."

Everett took a few seconds to respond until he finally spoke, "Two might be the best one at the moment." He supposed as he gave her an uncertain look.

Natalie nodded her head in agreement, as she quickly tried to fix her hair with her handcuffs on, Everett laughed, resulting in Natalie elbowing him.

The Chief walked back into the waiting room, eyeing the two, "Come now.", He motioned for them to follow him, they walked across the station noticing a secretary making a call, and two rangers having a man to man talk, as they walked into the interrogation room, they forced Everett to wait outside.

"What?" Everett asked, "I thought we were both going to be interrogated."

The rangers didn't even reply, locking the door, keeping them apart.

"Sit." The interviewer said, pushing her down.

"Ouch?" She rolled her eyes, glaring at the man, "A little bit of decency would be much appreciated."

The man simply ignored her complaints, going right to the subject matter, "According to the report, you were responsible for the whole animal abuse, which is probably the worst part of this entire mess."

"Wha-" Natalie was about to defend herself in an aggressive way, but slyly deciding to use a formal behavior,  "If I may."

The guard gave her a small nod, allowing her to speak.

"We weren't there for that." Natalie went on, telling Chief the truth, "Everett and I are good friends, we have known each other for years now, and of course, sharing this love for prehistorical creatures, and now that we coexist with these magnificent creatures, we both agreed on exploring and studying them alive, not with their remaining, but simply them."

"Doesn't explain why you decided to take a picture of them with flash." The chief responded dryly, checking the papers he had, "And you out of everyone should know that."

"Yes, I know you're right." Natalie admitted as she looked down feeling terrible about the situation, "That wasn't a smart choice and I understand that now, but my intention was never to hurt them, I sincerely love them, with all my heart."

"Well." The ranger began, "Most of that sounds reasonable, out."

Two rangers walked in with Everett dragging him to the chair, they now replaced Natalie with him, taking her away.

"Mr. Carter." The ranger walked back and forth across the room while reading the documents, "Your little friend told me you two love these creatures."

"Yes sir, that is correct." He affirmed it, showing the ranger respect, "I'm a Paleontologist myself."

While reading the papers, the ranger said, "She also told me you were on a research operation?"

"I wouldn't call it that." Everett replied while thinking of a good answer, "More like a Uhm, a summer camp."

"It's winter, Mr. Carter." The ranger exclaimed, "And who jogs in winter wearing a T-Shirt, surprised you didn't die of hypothermia."

Carter answered, trying to make the man think "Sometimes logic doesn't make any sense."

The man didn't smile a bit, skipping back to the case, "Mrs. Young said she didn't mean to hurt the animal."

"That's true." Everett again told the cop the truth, "She meant to attract them with the flash, and later she startled it by accidentally taking a picture with flash."

"Very well." The man said, "Bring her in."

Natalie was brought in by two of the other rangers, they placed a chair for her to sit in.

"Sounds like both of you are telling the truth." He said see he continued to read the report, "Except none of you told me about a very important detail."

"What detail?" Natalie asked, gritting her teeth.

The cop raised an eyebrow at the two, "About the fact that you were camping off-limits."

The partners went completely silent after that. Everett was sweating excessively, Natalie was shaking her legs, both afraid of something bad happening.

"Sounds like I got you now." He grinned, showing a small sign of happiness, "That area is a natural reserve, and it's private, humans do not have access to it."

"We weren't aware of the first part." Everett blurted out, signaling for Natalie to let him handle this situation.

The man simply stood up, saying "We'll see what comes next for you two." He then walked out, saying nothing else, leaving the two in the empty room alone.
