Thanksgiving

The four hosts stood side by side observing the arriving families the dog barked as the people approached the cabin. This would be the first time the girls met their protectors' family members, only ever hearing about them never acting seeing. Natalie was not very fond of her stepmother since her father and birth mother got a divorce, while Everett was happy to see his parents even if they didn't listen to what he had to say most of the time. However, they decided to put indifference aside to enjoy the holiday wanting to give the girls a good impression of their families too.

The prodigy children stepped down the staircase to embrace their guests, He Young caressed her daughter back, "It's good to see you,  nǚ'ér."

His daughter responded with an affective compliment, "Greater to see you, bàba." She let go of him staring into Sasha's eyes, "Sasha."

"Hey, sweetie." Sasha pulled Natalie into a hug kissing her cheeks, "It is so great seeing you again.", Natalie laughed drily bobbing her head frankly, Hannah rolled her eyes at Natalie simply nodding her head as a way of greeting.

Meanwhile, Everett rushed into a hug with his comforting parents, sniffing the smell coming directly from home, "Ma, Pa, I've missed you guys."

"Son." Montgomery tipped his hat in a stereotypical manner bowing down to his son.

"Tell ya what kid." Mindy searched through her purse, "I've brought somethin' you loved as a kid."

Everett gasped quote intrigued by what his mother had to offer. Mindy suddenly pulled out three Bourbon Balls, "There ya go, Dontcha love em', Evie?"

"I do." Everett hugged his mother once again, "Thanks, mom."

Mindy smiled tapping her son's cheek, "Well let me see those girls." Taking a long look at the Lang sisters, "You two are just gorgeous."

"Thank you..?" Alice said awkwardly, looking at her sister for some assistance.

Missy wheeled herself down to the families, "I've heard about you."

"We heard a lot about you too." Hannah responded with an aggressive demeanor, "One's a cripple, and the other can't hold a pebble for God knows what."

"Hannah!" Sasha nudged her daughter's forearm, "What did we tell you about manners?"

"Sorry." The girl apologized with the biggest amount of sarcasm and dishonesty in her voice, "I just project the treatment I get into other people."

Natalie breathed deeply before staring into her sister's eyes, "I missed you too." She offered a welcoming hug, but such actions were not responded to.

Alice and Missy looked at each other searching for any mutual sentiments but these people meant nothing to them yet. Everett led the way opening the door for the guests, the house was partially decorated with some hand-shaped turkeys stuck from wall to wall and a beautiful basket of fruits. The dining table was covered in plane tree leaves with hay serving as some extra details.

"Wow." Mindy held her hand close to her chest as she observed their cozy homes in the center of the wild, "I do enjoy the rustic style."

The guests were taken to the dining table joined by the two Lang girls, Everett and Natalie were focused on perfecting the scenario. Everett opened the storage room where he kept a large pumpkin meant for this moment, the same room served as an indoor house for Rooster, he poured some water and food into the dog's plates before shutting the door. As for Natalie, she was still working on finishing up the turkey chopping off a few elements such as vegetables.

"When we were looking for it." Everett began as he carried a large pumpkin to the table while placing it there, "I wanted to have a place similar to that cabin Uncle Glenn owned, those were the best summers of my life. My passion for the wilderness and nature grows stronger every day, and before anyone protests, I believe there's a cycle and that every living creature plays its purpose in life."

"Those morals also apply to dinosaur life and death encounter?" Asked Sasha obnoxiously as she proceeded to consume a carrot politely. He tapped her foot gently, giving her a concerned look, "I'm afraid that was inappropriate."

"I don't see how that could be." Hannah responded with the same demeanor as her mother, "They all seem pretty fine to me."

Missy turned her head to Hannah and blurted out sharply, "Now."

Hannah scoffed shaking her head at the girls, "Natalie can't be serious. You're all messed up because of dinosaurs? That's literally the same thing as being attacked by a bear but instead, it's a 12-foot-tall lizard."

As she continued to chop the vegetables Natalie chose not to intervene in their conversation just yet. But she was keeping her heads up for any wrong statements or offensive accusations.

"I am also curious to hear how.." Montgomery coughed up a bit, "How's that situation goin' on."

Suddenly every sentence began to overlap each other. So many questions, but not many answers. The babbling only got louder and even more disbarring. The ones trying to keep the holiday at ease were soon labeled in the same category as the protestants. Natalie's head was all over the place, causing her to get distracted and accidentally severing her thumb with the kitchen knife. She yelps in pain before punching the counter in anger. The woman spoke up after keeping herself at ease for a long time, "Will everyone shut up? This is sickening, it's annoying, and I can't stand it. Can we all please just have a normal Thanksgiving? Because if not I will ask all of you to leave."

Everett simply gave her a proud look over everyone's shoulder, she even managed to get a tiny smirk from the girls. The family members cooperated with her requests and preceded to dine on the formal and casual supper the hosts had provided, including their homemade additions that were highly requested by the people.

"I appreciate everyone's attention." Natalie confessed as she finished chewing on a piece of turkey, "This topic is very sensitive to us and we haven't been involved in a life-threatening situation in a while now."

"But you still see dinosaurs constantly, right?" Her father asked showing more curiosity than concern, "It's rare to see any sort of dinosaur in the big city you know."

Everett decided to speak for them, clearing his throat, "We have dinosaur encounters but none will ever compare to what we've been through in the past."

"Well, I'm thankful for this moment." Mindy raised a glass while pushing her chair back, "I'm thankful for every one of us being together."

Before any on could add their own words to the toast a phone rang on the other side of the common room. Natalie stood up and went to catch the call, she accepted the unknown caller with sketchiness, as the caller spoke her face went white, her mouth dropped, she couldn't believe what she was hearing, it was truly an emergency.
