Chapter 77 "Loving the Mafia"

Madison's pov

"Where are we going?," I struggle to say completely out of breathe from the running as I hold little Leo tightly against my chest.

We've been on foot for who knows how long since we broke out from where I was being held captive. So much confusion runs inside my mind as I follow behind Damien. So many questions, I need to get off my chest.

"I'm taking you to safety," he responds as he guides us towards the next street where a black suv is parked.

"I don't understand. How did you know where to find me? How are you even in this?," I say all in one breathe as I continue to follow behind him.

Damien ignores me taking out keys I suppose are his car keys from his pocket unlocking the door for me to get in. "Get inside," he says looking at me then down at little Leo.

"I need answers Damien!," I sternly demand.

Damien sighs before placing both his hands on my shoulders never losing eye contact with me. "I promise to explain everything in the car, but we must go before anyone catches up to us," he bluntly explains.

I take a moment to think about what he just said. He's right, after all we did just break out of that place. I look down at my son who's looking at me which catches me by surprise. After all the running, I haven't been able to keep such attention on him. His face resembling his father hurts my heart as I think of my husband wondering if he's okay right now.

"Okay start talking," I breathe hopping inside the car with my son in my arms. There's no way I want to be apart from him until we're safely with Leo far away from any danger.

Once Damien jumps inside getting the car started. We start making our way to who knows where. All I know is that it's suppose to be safe.

I sure hope it is.

"So much has happened after high school Madison. In college, I started hanging with very bad people that ultimately got me into drugs which I got hooked to. At first it was easy access until my parents found about the money they were giving me for supposedly books were actually going towards drugs," Damien lets out a huff before continuing on, "they were so angry and embarrassed of me that they completely cut me off from any access to their wealth. Being an addict already, I had to have drugs one way or another and eventually got myself in debt with the very wrong crowd."

"By crowd you mean Santana?," I say as I keep listening.

"Indeed. Not having anyway to pay the debt. Santana made sure to make use of me in another way to pay it off. I had to do horrible things I never knew I was capable of, but if I didn't then Santana would go after my family then kill me after. I had to do it Madison," his voice cracks as he struggles to hold back his tears which I can see are on a thin line of spilling out from his brimming eyes.

"Oh Damien, I'm so sorry," I sadly murmur feeling empathy for him. Seems like the both of us got into big messes after high school.

"Don't, I don't deserve sympathy. This is what I got myself into. Unlike you," he mutters looking at me and down at little Leo once again before refocusing on the road ahead of us.

"What do you mean?," I crease my brows having a feeling I already know the answer to this.

"I know about Castillo taking you against your will. However, what I failed to understand the last time I saw you at the nightclub is how you let yourself get pregnant by such a monster?"

A thousand emotions swirl like a tornado inside my stomach as I linger on what Damien just said. Leo never once raped me, it was all under my permission the times we slept together all those times when things were very difficult between us compared to now. I knew the possible consequence of having unprotected sex, but for some reason I didn't once think about being safe. Even if per say, I asked for some type of birth control would Leo even of allowed it? I have no idea now that I think about it.

However, I do know one thing and that is my husband isn't no monster. The horrific background he had during his upbringing with his parents inside this lifestyle he never asked for is what made him the way he once used to be. Truthfully, I don't blame him knowing what I know now. If I grew up the way he did, I probably would of lost myself too.

"He isn't a monster," I firmly say as I turn to the side to look at Damien. Damien raises both his brows up in surprise by my response.

"He has you completely brainwashed. You have any idea the shit he's done?," Damien grumbles annoyedly as he continues to drive up the road.

"Yes I do unfortunately, but no one knows the man I know, so shut up," I grumble.

Damien doesn't say a word instead he steers the conversation back to his story in this lifestyle. "That entire incident at the nightclub wasn't by coincidence you know. Santana found out about Castillo's little distraction and about you being my ex from high school, so he assigned me to accidentally bump into you two which you saw how all that went. However, unfortunately the plan didn't go successfully."

"Successfully? What were you suppose to do?," I furrow my brows.

"Santana has known Castillo for quite some time. He knows he has a temper on him and me knowing you, I knew you would try to stop the fight. So the plan was to start a fight with Castillo and for that fight to cause your miscarriage," Damien blankly explains.

I gasp, from the pure shock of it all. From the very start my son's life was in danger. I would of never guessed that this incident at Leo's birthday celebration was not an accident at all. It was all well planned out by Santana. The more I'm learning about him. The more I see how sneaky he really is.

"How could you be so cruel? I understand your situation, but to kill a baby an innocent child now that's inhuman," I angrily spat holding my son closer to me. From the very start his life was being picked by Santana.

"Oh Madison, as fucked up as this may sound to you. It was better if that baby was never born," Damien coldly says as he brings the car to a halt.

My heart thumps irregularly as his words sink down on me. "Excuse me?," I scowl.

"You have no idea how important that child of yours is. I had to cross Santana and betray Ruby's trust for me to get you here," Damien sighs as he looks at me.

"Cross Santana? Wait, what the heck does Ruby has to do in any of this?," I crease my brows in pure confusion.

"Castillo's mother promised all my debt will be paid no longer being a servant to this life as longest I deliver what she wants the most," Damien murmurs to himself as if he's reassuring himself rather than telling me. However, I have no clue on how to react to what he just said. Has he completely lost his mind due to this lifestyle?

"You're crazy, Leo's mother is dead."

"Oh, I can assure you she's very much alive."

"You're out of your mind. I'm getting out of here," I hastily say as I open the door stepping out. However, before I could fully step out, Damien grasps my hair harshly pulling me back to contain me on the same spot not letting me proceed. Due to this I wince in pain coming to a quick halt.

"I will not let you go away with my ticket to freedom," he grumbles.

"Damien, let go of me."

"I can't, Sarai would kill my parents and if I don't deliver this baby to her," Damien responds sending shivers down my spine. Either Damien has completely went coo-coo or he's possibly telling the truth. After all, why all the trouble if nothing was on the other end. However, if this is actually the case. I have to get my son far away from everyone that is after him.

Just as I was about to protest, I hear a click sound of a gun ready to fire its bullet from behind my head, "better do as I say from this point on or I'll blow your brains out without a second thought," Damien bluntly threatens causing my body to become hot and cold at the same time.

"Please Damien, this isn't you. Don't do this. My baby is innocent," my voice cracks.

"My family is too. I'm sorry for all of this and what is about to come Madison, I really am. Now slowly turn towards me."

A low sniffle escapes from my lips causing Damien to angrily shout for me to hurry up which wakes my son. The car is now filled with fear, wailing, and coldness as the night is witness to this. As soon as I do what Damien instructed for me to do. He then decides to assign another task for me.

"Good girl, now place the baby onto the back seat. Be very careful on what you decide to do against me or I'll shoot him," Damien warns.

Damien has changed so much for the complete worst. He judges Leo for being such a monster to due what he's done, but who is Damien to judge when he isn't a saint either. Leo has done horrific things, but one thing he's never done is threaten nor put a child's life at risk unlike this man that is holding me captive.

Not wanting to risk my son's life, I decide to do what I've been instructed to do. Tears slide down my checks as I hear little Leo's cries. Carefully, turning towards the backseat, I place my left knee on my seat to help support my body weight as I stretch over to the back placing him on the backseat. I then lean back facing Damien as he warily watches my every move.

"Now lets get out," he demands as he backs out of the car not once losing eye contact with me as he remains aiming his gun at me. He signals me to start making my way out the same way he stepped out from. Stretching my legs and arms to move from one seat onto another, I'm finally out of the vehicle. Damien grabs my arm harshly pushing me forward in front of him to start walking towards some building that seems to be occupied with people inside.

As little Leo's cries start to fade the farther we walk the more voices inside the building becomes more louder and clearer. However, the voice I hear next is unfamiliar.

"Am I son?"

As soon as this is said, Damien and I enter the premises and whom I see next causes so many emotions to erupt in me. Relief, fear, confusion, and worry swirls inside my stomach as I call out to Leo. By the look on his face as if he's just seen some ghost appear before his eyes. I can tell this isn't good whatsoever. As I step further inside, I start to see blood, bullets, and dead bodies all over the place.

Every hair on my body stands up wanting to vomit from the shock of it all. However, one particular lifeless face catches my eye numbing my body. Santana lays on the floor covered in bruises, bumps on his face, and blood from where the bullets hit him. Feeling a bit relieved that the one person that wanted my son dead is now no longer a threat. However, such sympathy engulfs me. I'll never get used to such violence.

Damien pushes me to proceed near this older women with brunette hair and the very same chocolate brown eyes as Leo. Without staring any longer, I can't help, but see such resemblance to Leo. My eyes widen in horror as I start to believe that this women can possibly be the mother of Leo. Perhaps, Damien was telling the truth after all. She looks at me with a devilish smirk plastered on her face as she glances between me and Leo.

"Good job Damien. I'm very impressed," this woman claps seeming very proud of Damien.

"Now son, this is going to be a very crucial important lecture that I need to teach you in this life. In the mafia world, you can't have both. It just never works out so...," she calmly says while smirking before proceeding on.

Son? Is all it took to finalize everything. Indeed, Damien was telling the truth about everything. The cruel mother in law, I've heard so much about is in fact alive after all this time. So much confusion develops at the same time not understanding how she's suddenly alive and here with us along with what the heck happened in that explosion Luna told me about.

"It's time for you to choose between the red eagles or Madison. So who is it going to be son?"

I gasp, as I hear those words that cut through my soul locking eyes with Leo whom is already looking at me with such fear swirling inside his eyes. I can tell he's battling between his two options which I have no idea on how to feel.

Silence fills the room as all eyes are on Leo who's is battling with himself. I have no idea what he's thinking, but I can tell it's eating him alive. "Save our son he's in Damien's car outside!," I utter out loud not wanting this to be about me at all. I don't care what happens to me tonight. All I care is that my son is safe with his father after this.

As I shout this out, the women I just met as Leo's mother sends a punch to the side of my face causing me to tumble down onto the floor wincing from the throbbing pain on my cheekbone from the sudden impact.

Just as this occurs, Leo aims his gun at Damien firing a bullet straight to his head and heart. I watch as Damien lifeless body tumbles down not far from me which causes me to start backing away. However, before Leo could launch towards me. His mother grabs me by the hair harshly dragging me away from where my family stands at the same time the two buff men under her control aims their guns at them preventing any retaliation from happening.

"LET HER GO SARAI!," Leo scowls aiming his gun towards his mother.

"From your hesitation, I can clearly see you prefer your mafia over this whore. I'll gladly, make it easier for you," she evilly says pulling at my hair for me to stand up which I do wincing from the throbbing pain and pressure I'm currently feeling on my scalp from her grasp on me.

Once I'm up on my feet, she turns me around placing her arm across my neck giving it a squeeze that has me completely gasping for air. As much as I try to scratch her arm and pull it away, I can't. She's stronger than I am. Which is embarrassing considering she's way older than me. That just goes to show how heavy their training really is.

"Hand me a gun. Time to kill this whore," she sneers.

And just like that as if it was a dream happening before my eyes. Unknown shots are heard from behind us all. The two buff men tumble down like heavy weights onto the floor leaving Sarai and I standing alone.

Just as Sarai harshly pushes me down causing my fall once again. I'm immediately grabbed by Leo whom picks me up from the floor embracing me within his arms. Sarai goes to bend over to grab the gun nearest to her belonging to one of her men which immediately was hit by a bullet causing the gun to slide farther down from her as well as causing Sarai to jump back from the sudden shot.

We all look towards the direction this last bullet came from and what we see next catches us all by surprise including Sarai.

"Oh you know I couldn't miss this party," Luna smirks seeming very proud of her aim and knowing she definitely saved the day which I can already see Leo denying if thrown at him.

"Luna what the fuck. You can't be here," Diaz grumbles walking towards her. Luna rolls her eyes at him, her aim still targeting Sarai who warily watches her.

"So today must be Dia De Los Muertos since this bitch is here," Luna grumbles unhappily.

"My baby," I murmur pulling back from Leo about to run out of this place to get my son within my arms again. However, Luna responds causing a great amount of ease, "He's safe. Savannah is with him as we speak."

"Bitch!," Sarai murmurs angrily glaring at Luna. "So who is it going to be? Me or you? To kill this bitch and go about our night. I'm craving some hot cheetos," Luna blankly says looking at Leo.

"Leo would never kill his own mother. The one who made him into what he is today," Sarai responds crossing her arms across her chest.

Leo raises his right arm as he aims his gun at Sarai while tightly holding me to his side with his left. Sarai's chocolate brown eyes widen baffled by what she is witnessing.

"I'm your mother!," she snaps.

"My so called mother died in that explosion and that is how it's going to stay. Say hello to my father in hell," Leo blankly says as he pulls the trigger sending not one, but two bullets straight into her head. I flinch regretting not looking away in time.

We all watch as Sarai's body helplessly falls down to the floor as silence fills the room. I glance up looking at Leo who's glaring at her lifeless body. No emotion nor any kind of expression is visible on his face. It's as if he felt absolutely nothing at all which causes me to look away.

We stand in the middle with a bunch of dead bodies spread around the ground in this building. This is what the mafia is all about. This is the lifestyle, I so desperately wanted out from, but now here I am standing beside my husband that happens to be the love of my life as everyone cheers and applauds for their win tonight. I stay in thought holding onto Leo as if my life depended on it.

Loving Leo Castillo means loving the mafia which is what my life will consist of from this day forward.

Finally, the mafia war is over.
