Chapter 3: Masquerade!

"Doesn't my date look dashing little brother?" Damon put on a proud smile as Havana entered the room. He put his hand over his chest faking a heart attack. Havana giggled twirling to show off her dress. The shade of yellow highlighted her tan making her stand out in the darkness of night.

"Well thank you, Mr. Salvatore. You don't look bad yourself." her accent echoed throughout the room. She put her golden mask on before approaching the Salvatore brothers. Havana just arrived at the masquerade, and so did the Salvatores coincidentally. The trio was still outside of the Lockwood Mansion.

Damon coughed loudly nudging his brother. "Yes, you look stunning," Stefan replied in a monotone voice. He didn't even bother looking at Havana. She understood why though. Stefan was too preoccupied looking around the property for any sign of Kathrine, Stefan was this desperate to let go of his morals for the night and kill the bitch who broke Elena and him up. Havana recalled begging Elena to take Stefan back a couple of hours ago, but her cousin wouldn't bulge saying that the people she loved (including her) wouldn't be safe. Havana sighed inwardly at her cousin.

Damn rolled his eyes at his brother before dragging his date by the hand to the house. He knew what was on his brother's mind, the annoyed look on his face told Havana that.

"I'm sorry you're taking the wrong Sommers girl to the ball," Havana said to her date.

Damon, who was too proud for his own good scoffed, "I'm taking you because there's no one I'd rather be with tonight than my best friend. You know most of Mystic Falls hates my guts. And why do you and the rest of the world think that I'm in love with Elena Gilbert?"

"No one hates you, Damon. You act like a dick most of the time and people get annoyed by that but they don't date you. At least I don't." Damon rolled his eyes though a smile tugged at the corner of his lips. "As for Elena, you should stop denying how you truly feel." Havana huffed crossing her arms, "-You boys are stupid. You'll only realize what you've lost when they're gone from your life."

Damon glanced at his date with a taunting smile on his lips. "Oh really? Where did you get that? The Oprah Winfrey Show?"

"My ex." Havana casually replied.

"You know if you tell me his name. I can track him and deliver his head to you in no time." Damon comforted his best friend the best way he knows how; sass and a reference to violence.

He pulled Havana closer who hummed "Mmm that sounds tempting."

Havana's new friend group, which included her cousins, their teenage friends, two vampires, and a history teacher all knew about Havana's past. After nearly three months of alcoholism and sleeping in all day, Havana decided that this wasn't the life she wanted despite still suffering from a broken heart. Her first step of progress; coming clean of what really happened. She shared everything from every happy memory with Klaus to her last memory of him when he confessed to his brother that "Love is a vampire's greatest weakness."However, she only left one vital piece of information out, his name. Her mind still taunted her with his name and flashbacks of his red plump lips on her's from time to time. It was too painful for Havana to bear.

Anyways, it's not like anyone knows who Klaus Mikaelson is. There are millions of vampires out there, I bet most of them haven't even heard of his name.

Damon and Havana walked with their arms linked in the brightly lit house. Upon entering, they were greeted with the music echoing throughout the house and food being served on multiple silver trays. "Damon, have I ever told you that sometimes when you don't annoy me, I actually find you cute." She turned to her date batting her eyes.

"What do you want now?" He groaned.

Havana smiled innocently replying "Can you pretty please get me a drink?"

Damon rolled his eyes walking away. He didn't even bother looking back and asking which kind of drink because knowing Havana, she would settle for the strongest drink in the house. And that's why we're best friends, he shook his head.

Havana, now alone scanned the room for any familiar faces. Her usual group of friends hadn't arrived yet..except for one. Matt Donavan stood at the corner casually sipping his drink. He, like everyone else, was wearing a mask. What gave him away was his watch. She had noticed that Matt would wear that silver watch with a tiny message at the center, 'From Vicki Donovan' every day to work. It was obvious that the watch held sentimental value to him. But Havana didn't head towards him to ask the reason behind the watch. He was another friend of her cousin whom she had also befriended. Plus, he was the only waiter who didn't try flirting with her so he was on Havana's good side.

Before Havana could say hello to him though, someone already beat her to it. It was Elena, she seemed different. This Elena wore a long black dress that had a long slit exposing most of her right leg. It wasn't Elena's usual style but Havana shrugged it off.

"Matt? You look dashing" Elena said now grabbing a hold of his biceps and feeling them.

He looked taken back. "Elena? I thought that you said you weren't coming."

"I couldn't miss it." She shrugged but then continued flirting. "Wow, you really are hot in this suit. I would just love to just-"

"-Elena!" Havana called out gaining her and Matt's attention. "Hey Matt, you don't mind if I borrowed my cousin for a second?"

Like the gentleman he was, Matt smiled. "Go ahead."

Havana shot him a fake smile before dragging her cousin away by the arm. "Aww!" Her gripped viciously tightened. "What was that for cuz?"

"Cut the bullshit, Katherine. Stay away from me, my family, and Matt." Havana gritted her teeth.

Kathrine just stood there smirking at the human. "You really are adorable Havana, smart too. Kudos for figuring it out so fast when others would've taken days to realize that it wasn't innocent Elena. But what makes you think that I'll follow a helpless human?" She tilted her head. Havana was quiet yet her eyes burned with fire. "So tell me, how did you know that it was me? Was it my hair?" Kathrine continued to taunt her.

"It was your slutty dress. And Elena would never go behind her boyfriend's back. That's called loyalty, a quality you, unfortunately, don't possess."

Kathrine scowled "They're not even together anymore and I'm proud to say that it's because of me. I hope your aunt is doing okay though, Jenna was it? I'm sorry to hear that she ran into a knife."

Havana wanted to slap the smugness from Kathrine's face who continued smirking know that she hit a nerve."Wrong move going after my aunt you psychopathic bitch."

Kathrine closer towering over Havana. "My my my, what they say is true about you."

Havana's brows furrowed not knowing who 'they' are.

"Oh! You didn't know? You're famous amongst us vampires. There's quite a big bounty on your capture for the past year. Vampires, witches, and werewolves, all have been looking for you though we also have wondered how did a pathetic human snatch the heart of the vicious Klaus Mikaelson?"

Havana's stomach dropped at the mention of his name.

Kathrine was getting entertained hearing the heartbeat of the girl accelerate. "Huh, now I know why. You have the feistiness of a pitbull but when faced with danger, you back away like a little puppy. Is that the reason why you ran away from your fiancé? Did it hurt when he fed on you? I heard that once he finds you, he'll finally rip your head off"

By the time she had finished, it was apparent that Havana was trembling though she tried to control it. Smirking, Kathrine was satisfied that she had ruined Havana's evening.

This pathetic human had clearly underestimated Klaus Mikaelson's reputation.

"Don't you dare threaten to expose me, you evil bitch."

"Keep interfering with my plans tonight and I just might."

That's when Havana ran off.

The triumphant Katherine walked back to Matt who looked concerned. "What happened to Havana?"

She could've just lied, but Katherine grew bored pretending to be the other doppelgänger. Her eyes dilated compelling the innocent Matt Donovan "Here's what I need you to do. Get Tyler Lockwood really drunk then you're going to start a fight with him and beat him. And don't stop until he kills you." Matt who was under her compulsion nodded his head and went away to do her bidding. Tyler Lockwood activating his werewolf genes? Sounds good to me, Katherine cockily thought. She needed a werewolf now that Mason Lockwood was dead.

------------

"Damon!" Havana exclaimed upon finding Damon and more importantly, her drink on his hand.

He got a better view of her face when she reached out for her drink. "Why are you crying? Is Katherine here?! Did she do that!?" Havana didn't answer any of his questions because she was too busy pouring scotch down her throat. When her glass was empty, she reached out and got Damon's. "I'm sorry. I'm just not having a good time here tonight." She wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. "Where's Elena?" She asked.

Damon looked away, "Well...She doesn't know about our plan to take out Katherine. Havana had her mouth wide open. "Oh, c'mon don't give me that look! You know that she would be rushing towards here right now if she were to find out-"

"-and expose herself to more danger." Havana finished his thought. "Okay fine. I won't say anything."

"Thank you."

Havana's phone dinged. She had just gotten a text. "Uh oh. She just found out. Elena's on her way right now."

"Damn it." Her date hissed.

------------

"Elena, stay out of it! We're trying to protect you" Havana raised her voice at her cousin who had her arms crossed. Elena was still in her house clothes; a loose violet shirt and a pair of grey sweatpants. She wasn't supposed to come tonight or even find out about the plan. But here they are now hiding behind a bush with Elena angrily facing Havana, Bonnie and Jeremy while they explained the plan to take Katherine down once and for all.

"You guys are trying to kill her here?!" Elena's arms motioned at the number of people present.

"We saw an opportunity and we knew we had to take it," Jeremy explained. Bonnie nodded agreeing.

Elena still wasn't getting it. "Are you guys crazy? Are you trying to get yourselves killed?"

Havana had enough of it "We know what we're doing for heaven's sake and we don't care! Elena, we are protecting you whether you like it or not. I'm not letting that vampire bitch wearing the same face as you hurt a single hair on your head." Elena pursed her lips shut not cutting off her older cousin. "Plus, you're not the only one that Katherine has messed with," Havana added. Her mind flashed back to her encounter with Katherine moments ago.

I need her dead before she turns me to Klaus...

"This isn't just about you anymore." Bonnie finished their argument.

Elena exhaled loudly knowing that she lost this round.

But in a split second, her frustrated look changed into a one of horror. Elena let out a scream before falling to the ground. Her back gushing out blood as a large and deep wound magically appeared. Jeremy, Bonnie, and Havana had their mouths open while they rushed to Elena's side. Another wound large cut showed up on her right shoulder. Elena let out another scream.

"What the hell is going on?!" Havana screeched.

Jeremy cut a piece of cloth from his clothes and applied pressure to his sister's woods. "What's happening?!" He asked the same question.

The Bennet witch gritted her teeth, "It's Katherine. Elena's linked to Katherine! I knew that there was another witch tonight! I sensed it." Before she took off in search of that witch, she looked at both Jeremy and Havana. "One of you get Damon and Stefan to stop. NOW!" Havana took that as her cue to start running into the house and up the stairs to where the Salvatore brothers and Katherine were at.

Havana gasped at the scene in front of her.  Stefan had Katherine in a chokehold on the ground while Damon was standing on top with a wooden stake above his head. He brought it down to pierce Katherine's heart. She struggled upon seeing the wooden stake. But a little smirk appeared when she saw Havana's horrified expression. The wooden stake was inches from Katherine's heart when Havana ran to them "NOOO" She covered Katherine's body with her own. She exhaled relieved that Elena was now safe. But there was a complication, she looked down to her stomach where blood started to spill out.

Stefan pushed Katherine off of him and went to his friend's side; he laid her head gently on his lap. Her eyes started to close. He gently slapped Havana's cheeks in an attempt to stop her from losing consciousness. Katherine managed to stand up and regain strength. Enough strength to fight the brothers, just after that annoying human dies, Katherine says to herself enthusiastically. The last thing Havana saw before black overcame her vision was the terrified blue eyes of her best friend Damon who stared in shock after what he did.

-----------

Havana's eyes fluttered open, her vision was blurry but she knew that she was in someone else's home. She rubbed her eyes before sitting up. Music could be heard outdoors, which meant that the party was still ongoing. She looked back at where she laid which was a couch stained with her own blood. Her yellow dress that used to be beautiful also had a large red mark on where her stomach was. However, the pain wasn't present anymore and neither was her wound. "Jeremy? Elena? Bonnie?" She called out. The door opened and revealed Damon who upon seeing Havana now awake, rushed at her side and gave her a bone-crushing hug. She yelped in surprise "Has the big bad Damon Salvatore gone soft?"

"Shut up." He mumbled on the side of her neck. Havana stroked his hair comforting him. When Damon let go, he opened his mouth to apologize. "Havana I-"

"-didn't do anything." She cut him off. "It was an accident, Damon. You didn't know what you and Stefan were doing was also hurting Elena."

"But you should've never done that. If Stefan wasn't quick enough to feed you his blood or if I wasn't stupid enough to include you in this dangerous plan, I-I." He stuttered shaking his head. His eyes trailed down to her dress. Havana crossed her arms trying to hide the blood-stained part of the dress. "What's done is done, Damon. But is Katherine done?"

Damon nodded in victory, "She won't be a part of our lives anymore Havana. She's trapped under the church."

Havana smiled. "And Elena?"

"Safe and probably having makeup sex with my brother." Havana slapped Damon's arm. His slum appearance turned into a joyful one as he laughed at his best friend's expression. "YOU. ARE. DISGUSTING. DAMON."

As the hours went by, the party started to die down. Soon, almost everyone had gone home, and it was Havana's turn. She declined Damon's offer to drop her own, she thought that a nature walk was good for her. Havana finally felt safe now that Katherine was gone. Her mind ran different situations in her head if Katherine hadn't been taken care of tonight. A chill ran from her spine imagining the arrival of a certain original if Katherine turned her in. Oh well. not a problem now. Cars exited the Lockwood estate, in front of her was another woman who also planning to walk home. "Elena!" Havana called out to her. She jogged catching up to her cousin. "Walking home too?"

"Yup" Elena replied. "Are you okay now? Has your wound healed?" She inspected Havana's stomach.

The older one of the two jokingly rolled her eyes "Don't act like you're not the younger one here Elena. I should be the one asking if you're okay." She could see a little bit of blood on her shoulder. "Didn't Stefan offer you his blood!??" Havana gasped.

Elena waved it off "He insisted but I wanted it to heal on its own. You know that consequences if you die and there's vampire blood in your system right?"

"Of course I do. But you also have to look out for yourself. And knowing how stubborn you are, just please let it get checked by the doctor Elena."

"Yes, mom." The younger one chuckled. However, it quickly died down as she added, "We're still broken up, you know. He tried to kiss me but I-I-"

Havana gave her cousin a side hug, "Elena please stop beating yourself over this. You love him, and he loves you! Just makeup already."

"It's not that easy Havana. I also love you guys too, and I wouldn't live with myself if anything happened to you guys."

Havana bit the inside of her cheek, "Just think about it okay? Be grateful you have someone who'll move mountains for you."

The two continued walking in the dark until both of them stopped dead in their tracks upon hearing footsteps behind them. They gave each other the same look of fear before making a run for it. But neither of them even took a step as hands muffled their screams and injections stabbed their necks making both girls fall into unconsciousness.
