Chapter 5

5 years later

Another blast rocked the ship as Zheth fought to keep it under control as her attacker followed, she had tried losing her tail but the pilot on the ship behind her was good. She'd known this would happen eventually, the First Order would find out who was giving the Resistance supplies, and now a bounty was on her head... a bit funny considering she was usually the one after people with a bounty on them. A jerk to the right avoided another blast and she quickly flipped her ship around to fire straight at the other ship, the direct hit damaged it but not enough to prevent her attack from losing.

"Really?" She huffed and barrel rolled to the side before hearing an incoming transmission. "What's up Hot Shot?"

Poe's voice sounded distressed as he answered. "I need back up on Jakku now, Predator! It's a massacre here and I need to make sure at least BB-8 gets out safely."

She dodged another attack and started setting the controls for lightspeed, aiming towards Jakku where Poe should be. "I'm a bit busy at the minute so hang in there!"

"Hurry, they destroyed my ship." There was slight static for a moment before he continued. "BB-8 is out of the village but... don't... where... he is."

The line cut completely into static and she paused. "Poe?"

She didn't get an answer but still punched it for lightspeed, hopefully that would also get rid of her attacker. The stars blurred around her for a moment before a loud explosion ripped through the storage locker of her ship, which was carrying a ton of explosive so that getting damaged wasn't a good thing... let alone good timing. Her ship sparked and Zheth quickly starting with the stabilization of the engines, she had to get out of lightspeed before she crashed into something, not to say she wouldn't by doing this. Across the panels in front of her an outline of her ship showed almost every section flashing red to signal the damages that were almost beyond repair probably.

"What did they hit me with?" She muttered under her breath before getting out of her seat and leaning over to flick several switches on the wall before sitting back down. "Shields are destroyed... engines are going up in smoke... Just great! I knew this was a bad idea!"

A ball of tan came into sight immediately out of light speed and Zheth reacted rapidly in an attempt to pull up from the suicidal dive towards the approaching surface. The speed of her fall, increased by the entrance into the hot planet's atmosphere, meant her actions were in vain however and she ducked down as her ship fell into the sand and tumbled wildly. Pain was everywhere by the time the ship came to a stop and Zheth opened her eyes to examine the land around her, which revealed a bleak landscape of sand... nothing for miles. She groaned and dragged herself out of the ship, though she stayed on the hot sand once she was out of the destroyed ship, without any knowledge of this landscape or extra supplies like water and food she would surely die here.

"Predator... Predator, come in... Status report." A jolt of surprise went through her as her communicator went off. "We lost signal in your ship are you alright?"

Zheth raised a hand weakly to press the button on her communicator and respond to General Organa's inquiry but let it fall limply into the sand. The pain was dizzying and she wasn't sure she could speak in fluent- let alone understandable- sentences. Another ship landing nearby allowed her mind to focus a bit once more and she cracked her eyes open to watch a blurred figure walking towards her, their armor painfully familiar though they didn't seem to recognize her as they prodded her roughly. Knowing this could be the difference between life and death or worse, she stayed limp as she was rolled onto her back.

A second later the bounty hunter started speaking over his own communicator. "Tell your boss the job is finished... No, I couldn't... They died in the crash; I know you won't have an issue with this one again... I'll be there shortly."

Zheth waited until she heard the ship take off before waiting even longer just to make sure they wouldn't see her get up. Her body protested at the movement but she ignored the pain and kept walking, surely some sort of civilization would appear eventually right? A scowl formed under her helmet as she limped on, if she ever saw Poe again he was dead, and if he were dead already she would find a way to bring him back and kill him again! It was his fault she was stuck on Jakku... the worst planet ever... she hadn't missed the stories about how ships and other things basically came here to die. This ball of dust was just a wasteland of harsh sunlight and little sustenance to survive... just as bad as Tatooine if she was being honest.

"I hate hot places..." Zheth wheezed; stumbling a bit as she nearly slid down a dune. "And I'm starting to hate sand. Poe Dameron, you better hope you die before we meet again!"

She had dropped to the ground by nightfall, much too tired to do much more than breath let alone stop to assess any real damage the crash had obviously done to her body considering some of the dried blood on her skin. Zheth wasn't even sure how far she'd traveled but was at least relieved to have found partial shelter in some long crashed Star Destroyers, it meant that if a sand storm decided to whip up in the middle of the night she wouldn't be buried alive at least. However, she wasn't sure what other dangers could lie waiting here either especially considering how old these ships were... they could have pieces falling off randomly for all she knew and that could mean being crushed.

Of course though, she was too tired at this point to even care. It was questionable if she would even wake up considering her condition. Without water, Zheth knew she'd die soon, especially on a planet like Jakku. Forcing herself to move again, she tried her communicator, knowing it would be dead considering it had gone to complete static less than a half mile after she started walking. Annoyance flooded through her body as she chucked the useless device and flopped back on the cooling ground, the warmth from the sun that normally heated these shadows was now icy and leeching her body heat... just another reason to hate planets like this. If it was cold all the time she could deal with that but from hot to cold or just hot? Nope. Absolutely hated it.Finally though, the combined effects of the day took its toll and Zheth fell asleep despite the hated climate and numbing pain.
