Eye of the Beholder, Part 2

3rd pov

"Isn't this exciting? What will he choose, ladies and gentlemen? Saving his friends or capturing his mortal enemy, his brother?" Dagur asks out loud, like he was an announcer for a sport. Hiccup and Toothless turns the other way, to where his friends are. "Hmm. Disappointing, but oh, so typically Hiccup." Dagur said.

(Time-skip and with Dagur, and you sent Odette to get the Dragon Eye)

"Amazing. I've never seen anything quite like this." Dagur said, fascinated by the cylinder-thing. "Me, neither. What do you suppose it is?" Savage asks. "Don't ask ridiculous questions, Savage! Just know this-- it's mine now, all mine!" Dagur said, then laughed. "Now, what exactly is it that you do? Tell Dagur, now. That's it. Don't be afraid. Tell Dagur." Dagur said, talking to the cylinder.

Meanwhile, Savage saw something in the fog coming this way. "Uh, Dagur." Savage said, pointing in the direction of where the Minicon owl is coming from. "Uuh! What now?! Another stupid question?!" Dagur asked loudly, raising the cylinder, ready to hit Savage with it. "More of an observation." Savage corrected.

The sound of an owl cry was heard from behind Dagur. He turned around, only to have the cylinder-thing snatched from his hand. He looked back at the creature, thinking that it was Hiccup and Toothless, but was proven wrong at the sight of a big metal owl. It then flew away with them, with the cylinder-thing in one of its talons. Dagur lets out a scream of frustration, and his two men started shooting arrows at the metal Eurasian Eagle Owl, but they only bounced off of her metal plating.

Dagur threw one of his men overboard in anger. He glared at the other one and the guy threw himself off. "See what you did? You distracted me. And now my pretty, cylindrical, mysterious object is gone. Stolen by some big, dumb, metal bird!" Dagur shouted, scolded Savage.

(Back with the gang)

"He's gone." Hiccup said. "We can probably get that thing back." Ruffnut said. "Oh, yeah? How? It's not like it's just gonna drip from the sky and land in Hiccup's hand." Snotlout said.

Then the cylinder-thing dropped in Hiccup's hand. They looked up to see a metal owl flying above them, before it dives down, passing them, heading for the water. "After it!" Hiccup said as he and Toothless dived down after Athena.

When the three of them hit the water, while Odette was swimming in the water the same speed she was when she was flying, getting farther and farther away from them, into the black abyss in the sea. Hiccup and Toothless were losing air and went back up to the surface.

"Lost it." Hiccup said. "Never seen an Owl like that before." Fishlegs said. "It probably might be a dragon in the shape of an Owl, but bigger! And with metal feathers. A Dragowl!" Tuffnut said. They flew back to Berk as Tuffnut continued to come up with more names to call Odette, not knowing that they were being followed.

(Time-skip)

Gobber is straining as he is having a difficult time trying to open the cylinder-thing. "Have you ever seen anything like this Dragon Eye before?" Hiccup asks. "Dragon Eye? How do you know if it's called a Dragon Eye?" Tuffnut asks. "... Because I named it." Hiccup stated. "Whoa, whoa. Aren't we supposed to vote on stuff like that?" Snotlout questions. "Fine. All in favor, say 'Dragon Eye'." Hiccup said. Everyone said 'Dragon Eye' and raised their hands. "... Just wanted to make sure we voted." Snotlout said.

While that was happening, Gobber continued to have zero progress on getting the Dragon Eye open. "Can you open it, Gobber? Astrid asks. "Haha! Can I open it? I once opened a 500-year-old giant clam at the bottom of the ocean with my bare hook. Can I open it? Ha!" Gobber laughed. "I think it's going to be-" Gobber said, before he stopped as a dart shot out of it and hit Tuffnut. "Ugh. What is that? It looks like a-" Tuffnut said, then fell to the ground, unconscious. Ruffnut laughed. "Well, that was... something, maybe." Gobber said, then went back to opening it. "Gobber, maybe you shouldn't-" "Trust me. What I'm-" Gobber said, interrupting Hiccup, but then stopped as green grass came out of it. Tuffnut was now conscious, not knowing about the gas. "It's all right, it's okay. I got hit with something, but now-- No, scratch that." Tuffnut said, then accidentally breathe in the gas, and fell to the ground, shaking. "Yeah, I think we should probably go get Gothi." Hiccup said.

(Time-skip)

Tuffnut continued to shiver wildly, and Gothi forced Tuffnut to drink the potion/medicine. When it stopped, Tuffnut started scratching his teeth. "My teeth are itching teeth are itchy." Tuffnut informed. Gothic grabbed her staff and started writing on the ground to communicate. "She says that's a good sign. Means it's working." Gobber said, being able to read the symbols on the ground. Tuffnut continues to scratch his teeth.

"Thank you, Gothi. We really appreciate this." Hiccup said. Gobber tries to see if tapping the Dragon Eye will open. He was proven wrong. Gothi squints her eyes as she something familiar on the Dragon Eye. When she spots the keyhole, she turns around, not wanting to remember that terrible memory.

Fortunately, Hiccup notices Gothi's strange behavior. "Gothi, are you okay? What is it?" Hiccup asks in a concerned tone of voice. She turns her head to him and shows a bite mark on her arm. Which looked exactly like the keyhole. She then walks away with her stick. "Gothi." Hiccup said. "Her-her scar... it matches the keyhole." Hiccup informed. "Yeah, and it looks like a dragon bite to me." Fishlegs added.

"Oh, it is. But, she doesn't like to talk about it." Gobber informed. "She doesn't like to talk about anything." Fishlegs said. "Oh, that's why she writes in the dirt with her stick. I thought that was, just like, her thing." Tuffnut said. "Yeah, like Snotlout being a women repellent. (That line made me laugh)" Ruffnut said as she was leaning against the front of Gothi's place with her arms crossed. "Maybe we can use the stick to itch the teeth." Tuffnut said as Hiccup and Fishlegs headed towards the staircase.

"Where are you going?" Gobber asks. "After her. We have to find out what dragon made that scar. It could be the key to opening the Dragon Eye." Hiccup informed. "Hold on. I have ways of making her talk. Heh." Gobber said with a smirk as he crossed his arms. "Well... scribble, anyway." Gobber corrected.

(At night)

Gobber opens a big pot to show a stew in it. "It's the old bat's weakness, isn't it?" Gobber questions as he is waving the smell of it towards Gothi. "Come on. You know you can't resist Gobber's homemade yak noodle soup." He continued as Gothi looks like she's trying to resist the temptation. She is failing badly.

Sometime later, she finished eating the soup from the pot. "Ho, ho! She downed that like a yak in a heat wave. ...That makes sense, right?" Fishlegs asks, not sure if he made any sense. When Gothi finished chuging the soup Gobber made, she threw the cauldron away and sat down in her chair. Gobber walked over and put his hand – and hook – on his hips. "Now, tell me about this bite mark." Hiccup said.

Gothi grabbed her cane and started writing in the ground. "'I was a turkey neck-'" Gobber read, but then got smacked in the head with Gothi's staff for reading it wrong. "Ow! 'Teenager' Sorry. 'I had a longing to climb Glacier Island to find pure glacial water known for its healing properties. So, I went with two vegetables.' *SMACK* Ow! 'Vikings' Sorry. I'm a bit rusty." Gobber said, scratching the side of his head.

"'We had only been at the summit for a few hours, when we were hit by a terrible snowstorm. That's when it attacked. it was vicious. Relentless, and impossible to see in the white-out. The Snow Wraith. I'll never know why it didn't finish me off that day. I left only knowing one thing: That I never wanted to smooch that dragon again.' Smooch- *SMACK* OW! 'See! Never wanted to see it again.' You know, your drawing ain't what it used to be, old woman." Gobber said. Gothi reeled her staff back, ready to smack him again. "But your swing, strong as ever." Gobber said, saving himself.

"Gothi, a tooth from the Snow Wraith is the key to unlocking the Dragon Eye. You have to help us find it." Hiccup begged. Gothi wrote her reply in the ground. Gobber silently read it and widen in shock. "I-I can't say that to him. He's the chief's son." Gobber stuttered. Gothi erased what she wrote in the ground and replaced it with a child-friendly reply. "She says, no way she's ever going back. And besides, Berk needs her." Gobber read. "It's true. She's the best healer we've got." Gobber confirmed. "Gobber can cover for you." Hiccup suggested. "Huh? Oh, well, uh, of course I can. I've watched Gothi work so many times, I know this place like the back of my hand." Gobber said, raising his hook, then immediately switched it with his remaining hand.

"You remember the vicious Snow Wraith. I get that. but you also remember how it was to be my age, to want to explore, to see what else is out there. to get answers to questions you haven't even asked yet." Hiccup said. He then walked over to the dragon Eye and picked it up. "This will help me do all of that. But only... Only if you help me unlock it."

There was a moment of silence, before Gothi stomped her staff on the ground, accepting the invitation.

(Time-skip brought to you by Gobber getting smack with Gothi's staff)

Y/n and Odette arrived at the snowy biome that is home to the Snow Wraith. When they landed, Y/n transformed into they're bi-pedal mode. They took quite steps behind a giant snow wall, watching the group of Dragon Riders, listening in to what they're saying. "Great, just great. She's got nothin'. Someone else is wearing that bag of bones home. She's all knees and elbows." Snotlout said, rubbing his back. Gothi sent him a glare.

I then see some snow falling and wind started blowing harshly. Odette transforms, connecting back to my chassis (chest in Cybertronian terms). "Can we please do something? My mouth is starting to freeze shut." Snotlout said. "Don't get our hopes up." Astrid said. "Well, then we should work fast to find this Snow Wraith. Because we're not leaving until we do." Hiccup stated. "Let's split up so we can cover more ground." Astrid suggested. "Good idea. Dragon Call if you come across anything." Hiccup said.

"Quick, Hookfang, before she sees us!" Snotlout exclaims, turning to his dragon. He then yelps in surprise, seeing Gothi already there on the saddle. She gives him a smug look as she pats the saddle. "Hi. I was just talking about you." Snotlout muttered as he walked over to the Monstrous Nightmare. All of them got on their dragons and flew off, searching the island for the Snow Wraith.

(Time-skip brought to you by Gobber being the worst doctor)

The Dragon Riders flew back in, back to where they were before. "Anybody find anything?" Hiccup asks. "All we found was some scattered yak bones." Ruffnut reported. "I-I didn't see anything, but I had this weird feeling that something was watching me." Fishlegs said. 'Probably me' I thought, shrugging my shoulders.

"Oh, I had a weird feeling, too. Like this old lady stuck on my back." Snotlout complained. Gothi popped her head out from behind him. "Ah! Two heads!" Tuffnut yelped. Barf and Belch snarled at Tuffnut. "Oh, sorry, guys. I mean, on you two, it works. I've seen it before. I'm used to it." He said.

The sound of the wind whistling came back as the clouds rolled in; a snowstorm was coming.

"Hiccup, maybe we should get out of here. That looks like a huge storm." Astrid suggested. "No. We should dig in here and wait for the Snow Wraith to show itself. Remember, it likes to attack when you can't see it." Hiccup said. "Great. Just great." Fishlegs mutters.

Sometime later, they finished setting up camp. Meanwhile, the storm continues to get worse. "Use your dragons as extra protection from the wind!" Hiccup shouted over the strong winds.

Then, something destroyed one of the tents. "It's the Snow Wraith! Oh!" Fishlegs exclaimed in fear and hid in one of the tents. That tent was destroyed. Fishlegs yelped in surprise.

"Hold your ground and fire back!" Hiccup shouted. "Fire back where? We can't see it." Astrid said. Another tent was taken down. "Actually, you know what? Take cover!" Hiccup exclaimed. As they ran, the Snow Wraith fired at Snotlout, making him fly into a hill of snow.

The dragon landed and let out a roar. It had pure white scales, matching the snow, bright blue eyes, a long ledge under chin, spikes on its tail, a pair of large tusks, long eyebrow-like appendages on its head, and its body type like a Wyvern.

It walked up to a bed of snow, one with Snotlout in it, and started sniffing. It did nothing at first, roared in his face, started smelling the pile of snow again, then walked off. "Toothless, warning shot." Hiccup said. Toothless did that, causing to get the Snow Wraith's attention. The other dragons started firing at the snow dragon, but they missed, which caused some snow to fall on Snotlout, covering him completely. "Cease fire! Cease fire!" Hiccup yelled.

"Alright, I've had enough of this dragon, bud. Do your thing." Hiccup said. As Toothless was about to fire, a project of highly-intense explosive flames (From wiki), and barely dodged them as they continued to fire its way before flying up into the air. Hiccup scanned the sky for it but saw nothing. "I think it's gone." Hiccup said. "Everybody okay? Everybody here?" Hiccup asks. "What do you mean by 'here'?" Ruffnut asks.

"I have two questions, Hiccup. 1. What almost hit the Snow Wraith? And 2. What exactly is your plan to get a Snow Wraith tooth? Take it out of one of our dead bodies?" Snotlout asks, with sarcasm for the last one. "If all goes well, it'll be Ruffnut's body. And the Wraith tooth. And that ray of fire looked so cool!" Tuffnut said.

"Hold on, quiet. Gothi wants to tell us something." Hiccup announced as she started writing in the snow. "She says we should've left when we had the chance, and to possibly get away from whatever attack the Snow Wraith before it decides to attack us." Fishlegs read. The roar of the Snow Wraith echoed in the air.

(Time-skip)

"Okay, that thing was gnarly." Snotlout said. The group of humans and dragons were huddled close to each other for warmth. "Astrid, are you okay?" Hiccup asks. "Yep, barely." Astrid said. "Hiccup, you know I want a shot at this as badly as you, but maybe we should get out of here. We're like sitting ducks in this storm." Fishlegs said. "Wait a minute. What did you just say?" Hiccup asks.

"He said we're sitting ducks. And for once, I agree with him." Snotlout said as Hiccup looked around the area. "Sitting ducks. Yes, yes! yes, that's exactly what we need to be." Hiccup said, getting an idea. "Excuse me?" Astrid asks. Hiccup turns to them. "What if we could make the Snow Wraith think it sees us when we're not really here?" Hiccup questions. "You can make yourself invisible? Why does he get to do all the cool stuff? I just have to sit here with you as a sister." Tuffnut said.

"Will you two be quiet for ten seconds?" Snotlout asks in annoyance.

"Tuffnut's not that far off. Look, the Snow Wraith didn't have any trouble seeing us until Snotlout get buried in the snow. And Gothi said it couldn't find her when she fell into a snowbank. I think that's because it sees body heat in the same way Toothless finds things with sound. We'll use this to our advantage to confuse it. Then, while it's distracted, we'll net it and get that tooth." Hiccup said, explaining the plan.

"And you're sure it will work?" Astrid asks. "Uhh..." Hiccup dragged out. "Of course not." Astrid deadpanned."...I hate you. You know that?" Snotlout questions. "Yes. I am aware of that." Hiccup replied.

"All right, gang, let's get to work."

Sometime later, they set up dummies out in the open as the snowstorm came back, while everyone else was in a cave. "Pretty good. Now, if I'm right, when we light these on fire, the Snow Wraith will think they're us and attack. Then, we'll have the drop on it." Hiccup says.

"Wait, wait, wait!" Snotlout quick said. "Look how realistically gorgeous my statue is. I can't in good conscience send that into flames." The wind blew the head of his dummy off, making Snotlout yelp. "I'll work through the pain and do it for you." Astrid suggested. "Wow, you'd do that for me, Astrid?" He asked as she rolled her eyes.

"All right, Toothless, light 'em up (up, up. Light 'em up, up, up. Light 'em up, up, up. I'M ON FIRE!! Okay, I'll stop now)." Hiccup ordered. Toothless fired at the dummies, setting them ablaze. Snotlout took off his helmet and started acting like this was a funeral. "Somewhere in the world, a silent tear was just cried."

So far, the Snow Wraith didn't reveal itself. "Hiccup, I don't know if this--" "Wait, look!" Hiccup exclaimed, interrupting Fishlegs, seeing a big, snow white-colored figure in the storm, flying over the group of dummies. "Okay, the next time it comes in, we go." Hiccup explained. The Snow Wraith dived down, taking out Snotout's dummy. "Oh, no you did not!" Snotlout exclaimed in anger. Hookfang lit himself on fire as he growled, not realizing he was melting the snow above them.

Toothless felt water dripping on his head, then a couple of small ice shards. He looked up to see that the ceiling was about to collapse. He rushed over to Hiccup, grabbed him with his mouth, dragged him out as it just collapsed and rolled down the hill of snow.

Meanwhile, the others were trapped behind a wall of ice and snow. "Hookfang! Get over here, now!" Snotlout demanded as he and Gothi tried to destroy the wall.

Back with Toothless and Hiccup

"Thanks, bud." Hiccup said. Hiccup then saw the Snow Wraith flying towards them from behind. "Toothless, look out!" He yelled out. Toothless ducked down and shielded Hiccup with his wings at the Snow Wraith flew overhead and passed them.

"If it can see our body heat, then we are way too easy a target out here." Hiccup said. He got up and walked over to the inside of the ring of fire dummies with Toothless following beside him. "Now this should even the odds a little. It won't be able to make us out within the heat of these fires. Do your thing, bud." Hiccup said.

Toothless roared out to the skies, rings of purple soundwaves expanding out just before the sound dies out and he turns to a different to do the same thing over and over. "Easy, bud. Nothing." Hiccup said, sounding truly stumped. "Where is he?" He asked.

Unbeknownst to them, the Snow Wraith was above them and descended down behind them. "Keep going." Hiccup ordered. When it landed on the ground, it slowly approached them. "Keep going, keep going. Keep going. Keep going." Hiccup continued.

That's when they heard its roar, not seeing Gothi running up behind them, charging forward at the Snow Wraith. "Gothi, no!" Hiccup shouted. Gothi didn't listen and started hitting the Snow Wraith in the face with her staff, hatred filling her eyes. After getting a few more hits in, the Snow Wraith grabbed her staff with its mouth and started swinging her around. "Toothless, plasma blast! And careful not to hit the crazy, little woman with the staff." Hiccup ordered.

Toothless fired two shots and got it to let go of Gothi's staff. It shook off the pain and roared in Toothless' face, only to receive a fireball to the face. They looked over to see Snotlout and a flaming Hookfang. "Oh, yeah, that's right. Snotlout got us out of the snow." Snotlout boasted. "Yeah, and you're also to the one that got us buried in it to begin with." Astrid remarked before running towards Hiccup. "Ah, details." Snotlout dismissed, running after her.

The gang and their dragons came to the scene, cornering the Snow Wraith. The group continued to fire at the Snow Wraith, backing it up further into it's dead end. That's when another ray of highly-intense explosive flames fired at it's behind. A figure slowly descended blocking the Snow Wraith from behind, roaring in its face (For some reason, it makes me think of the Shriekers from Tremors).

It's a dragon made out of metal. It was 39-feet tall, a 100-ft. wingspan, large claws and fangs made for close-combat, a tail that can whip about at high speeds to knock away opponents, as well as damage anything withing rang and use its blade-like projections on the tail to cut into enemies, and the ability to project highly-intense burst of explosive flames might as well kill numerous dozens of people with a single blow. The membrane of the wings is 1/f/c on the underside but 2/f/c on the upper half. Its snout is short, and its lower jaw can separate and move like a stag beetle's jaws. It has a pair of jaw like tendrils coming from his cheeks that seems to help grip prey. It's lower jaw as a pair of tooth-like projections jutting out front which interlock with the cheek tendrils when the mouth is closed, and it has another pair of tooth-like projections in between the tendrils and upper jaws. It also has a sigil on the bottom of its chest.

"I guess that works? Okay, we have him surrounded. Let's get that tooth." Hiccup said. And that's when the Snow Wraith flew up, disappearing into the snowstorm, and the metal beast flew after it. "No! We can't lose him." Hiccup exclaimed. "Actually, he lost us." Tuffnut corrected.

"Hiccup, we should get out of here while we can before that thing decides to hunt us instead of the Snow Wraith." Astrid said. "Not yet. This isn't over." Hiccup stated. Gothi tapped on his shoulder. "Not now, Gothi. Gang, we came her for a Snow Wraith tooth and-" He stopped when she tapped on his shoulder again. "I-I-I said in a minute, Gothi." Hiccup said, turning to her before turning back to the rest of the group. "And we are not leaving-" And Gothi tapped on his shoulder once more. "Gothi! Without-" Hiccup started before Gothi held up her staff to see a tooth in it. "Oh. Oh, a tooth." Hiccup nonchalantly said before realization washed over him.

"A tooth!"

Behind one of the hills of snow Y/n watched with Odette perched on their head. 'Let's head back to the island'. You said over the bond before opening your wings and flying away with Odette flying by your side.

(Time-skip)

After returning back to Berk, they met up with Gobber to clean up the tooth they got. When he gave the tooth back and insert it into the lock, and waited for something to happen, but nothing did. So, Hiccup took it home to fiddle with it in hopes to get it to work until it was the middle of the night.

"All right." Hiccup started before he yawned. "That's it, I'm calling it a night. Maybe tomorrow. Fresh eyes." He tiredly said, setting the Dragon Eye on his desk. Toothless walked over to where he sleeps, firing a plasma flame as he spins in a circle.

Hiccup looks over at the Dragon eye, and sees one end revealing a purple glow, and it stopped when Toothless finally laid down. He got up, walked over to his desk and picked it up along with a stool. "Toothless, come here." Hiccup beckoned.

He sets the Dragon Eye on the stool once Toothless came over. "Do that again, bud. Give me a low flame." Hiccup requested. Toothless was confused, but did it anyway, getting into position behind it.

"Whoa." Hiccup said as he got up. On the wall, being projected by the Dragon Eye was an image of information. "This changes... everything."

(I finally posted the chapter after two whole years the first one came out! FINALLY!!)
