"Jungkook.. who the hell did you rob?"
Four in the morning wasn't exactly an uncommon time for Jeon Jungkook to show up at his older best friend's Taehyung's house. The nineteen year old lived alone, in a small apartment that definitely fit his age. What was uncommon though, was the reason Jungkook had showed up this time
around.
Kim Taehyung sat on the old ripped up couch in his living space, brown eyes nearly bugging out of his skull as he stared upon the scene in front of him.
Sure, his younger friend had always had a mischievous side to him, causing him to get into antics that Taehyung would always try to get him out of - but nothing in the world could have prepared him to watch Jungkook unzip his bag and let just under five million won in cash fall out onto Taehyung's grey carpeted floor.
The older male was stunned, standing up slowly and pushing a few peachy pink pieces of hair out of his face. He locked gazes with Jungkook, who merely shrugged and allowed a playful smile to creep onto his face.
"If you take a look at the amount of money on the ground, then you know I can't answer that." Jungkook answered shortly.
Honestly, he was going to keep this a secret from Taehyung. Why wouldn't he? That would mean no sharing, no loose ends, no fear of Taehyung getting drunk and ratting him out. Jungkook had quickly realized though, that he had never told his older friend a lie in the entire time they had known each other, and so it weighed heavy on his chest when he thought about starting.
Taehyung was, well, Taehyung. Everyone knew him, and if you didn't then one of your friends did. He had graduated from the school both he and Jungkook attended a year prior, but he was still the main hub for illicit after-school activities.
That was how he and Jungkook had met, actually, behind their school after dark as Taehyung enthusiastically boasted about whatever was in the little ziplock bag he was waving around.
To put it bluntly: Taehyung was the school's main drug dealer, and he looked good doing it.
"No, no, no." Taehyung laughed, wringing his hands together nervously. The silver rings on his fingers clinked against each other as he did so. "You can't just walk into somebody's house with that kind of money and not tell them where you got it." His eyes darted over to his front door, glinting in fear. "Am I going to get jumped?"
'By Korean law enforcement, maybe.' Jungkook couldn't help but think, sighing and falling back on to the couch where Taehyung was once sitting.
He scanned his eyes across the table, gaze falling on basically everything he would have expected to be on there; a couple empty soju bottles, multiple lighters, ziplock bags (some full of money, some other things), and a jar full of suckers due to Taehyung trying to kick his smoking habit.
"Hyung." He laughed. "You need to stop panicking." He reached forward and grabbed one of the ziplock bags full of marijuana, opening it slowly and visually being taken aback by how strong the smell that left it was. "Aren't you like, the dealer at our high school? You should be used to seeing money in cash."
Taehyung sputtered, glancing over and watching as Jungkook fished around in the bag for a nugget to his liking. The younger boy was extremely picky, Taehyung watching in fascination as Jungkook sniffed the bag once more - as if it had suddenly changed.
"Not this much." Taehyung exclaimed, becoming a bit worried by how calm his friend was. "Which is why I'm freaking out! And you should be too! Because you're the one who stole it!"
Jungkook grimaced, his pierced lip turning downwards into a frown. He quickly brought his hand up to shush Taehyung, leaning forward onto his knees.
"Let's not be so trigger happy with that word okay? You know your walls are thin." He laughed softly, taking off his black beanie and shaking out the brunette strands that had hidden beneath it. "Besides, I'm not even the one who got my hands dirty, I just got a cut."
Taehyung hesitated for a moment, brown eyes flashing with a flurry of questions and emotions as he scanned his gaze across his friend and the scene they both found themselves in. He was aware that Jungkook had never been one to hang around the most favourable people (him and Taehyung were friends after all), but there was something about what he was seeing right now that was completely unnerving him.
When Jungkook had stolen from people in the past it would have been maybe a couple hundred thousand won, more commonly their drug stash or jewellery that the younger boy had taken a liking to. But this.
This, was way too much money.
"Jungkook." He spoke, making the younger immediately look up from where he was rummaging around on Taehyung's messy table for rolling papers. Taehyung's voice had suddenly adopted a tone that was far more serious than normal - an emotion not worn by him often. "You're my best friend, and you know that, otherwise I would be kicking your ass right now for taking my product for free."
Jungkook nodded slowly, a bashful expression on his face as he set down Taehyung's bag of weed after finally choosing a piece that was to his liking. "So I am going to ask you - best friend to best friend - to not get involved in anything that could get yourself killed."
Jungkook laughed softly, making Taehyung's eyes harden into a glare. "You better stop fucking laughing and take me seriously." He crossed his arms over his chest, the sleeves of his white T-shirt tightening around his biceps. "Use your brain! Think! There is well over enough money on the ground right now to pack up and move to a different country. You really think that's not enough money to be killed over?"
Jungkook sighed, closing his eyes for a brief moment. Honestly, it's not like he hadn't thought about it before. He had thought about it on the way home from the bank, checking over his shoulder far to many times to not look suspicious. He had thought about it even before he even got to the bank, before he had even met Jimin.
His eyes widened.
Jimin.
He had honestly forgotten about Jimin in the time he had gotten to Taehyung's house and tried to calm the older boy down, but now that he remembered - his brain was going haywire.
Jimin, who had completely derailed his entire plan and forced him on to a completely different track than he what he had originally intended.
Jimin, who had about well over the amount of money that Jungkook had right now, and that wasn't even his first time doing a high scale robbery like that. He had experience, and training, and skill.
Sure, Jungkook had punched him - that was evident by the redness that bloomed against his knuckles still - but if Jungkook couldn't even take him down with a knife, then a punch really meant nothing.
Jimin had already tried to kill him once.
Who's to say he wouldn't sleep on the decision and regret not doing it?
"Hello? Jungkook?" Taehyung had quickly snapped Jungkook out of his thoughts, now standing directly next to him as he stared at him with his head tilted. "Are my words finally leaving an impression on your small brain?"
Jungkook nodded slowly, picking up a lighter from off of the couch cushion beside him and fidgeting with it. He had been so caught up in the high of having all of this money, that the consequences had all but completely left his brain. He really had been thinking for a moment there that he got off easy, with no real problems to follow.
The consequences were real though, and their name was Jimin.
"I'll be fine, Hyung." He finally spoke, tossing the lighter he held onto the table with the rest of the clutter. He finally let a small smile break his otherwise stoic expression. "You know me, right? Ive never been a situation I can't get out of." He shuffled to the right, allowing Taehyung to sit next to him. "So don't worry so much about me. If it gets messy, I can clean it up."
"You're only seventeen, Jungkook." Taehyung breathed, his voice laced with an emotion Jungkook couldn't quite decode. Sadness? No, deeper. Regret. "I think the mindset you have is one you shouldn't have developed until a bit later in life." He rested his head on his hand, closing his eyes and sighing softly.
"What's the problem with that?" Jungkook asked softly. "Less problems for people, earlier on."
Taehyung shook his head.
"More problems for you, all by yourself."
