Chapter 1: An Accident

An otome game is a story-based video game that is targeted towards women. Generally one of the goals, besides the main plot goal, is to develop a romantic relationship between the female player character and one of several male characters.

Today was a good day to die.

Of course, that wasn't exactly what (Y/N) thought when she rushed outside of her house in a frenzy.

Groggy from the lack of sleep and her figure almost collapsing from how exhausted she already looked despite it being 8 am in the morning, (Y/N) hastily slipped in her school uniform and brushed her hair while frantically grabbing whatever items she needed inside her school bag.

"Damn it, why didn't big brother or mom wake me up!?" She cursed under her breath and let her eyes drift over towards a video game cover that was laying on her desk.

The cover had six handsome anime boys looking straight forward as if they're actually staring at the person who's looking at the cover. Some of the boys were smiling while some of them weren't and just looked forward with a small frown but a huge blush spread on their cheeks.

Behind the boys was a pink colored background with a few sparkles decorating the glimmering faces of the boys. The title of the game was 'Brothers' Affections: A Blossomed Love', which already sounded weird taken out of context.

It almost looked like the game was incestuous and only aimed for really weird young female teenagers who were actually into that sort of stuff. It also looked very comical - almost as if no one would actually take the game seriously.

Even if the game's content was far from what the title is implying.

Grumbling, she went to sling her bag over her shoulder and walked out of her room when she remembered that the reason why she stood up late last night was because of that damn otome game that she saw when she was strolling through a game shop a week ago.

"I finished Lorien's route last night, so I should start Peter's tonight if I'm not too busy. He's the last boy I need to conquer to finish the game." She mumbled to herself as she grabbed her phone from her pocket and almost screamed when she saw the time.

As her parents and her brother started the day earlier than her, there was no one in the house currently. She easily could've screeched had she not composed herself and realized that she's only wasting time.

Cursing under her breath again, (Y/N) stormed out of her house and almost threw her bike on the road. She had a Mathematics quiz today, and although she had a bit of a rocky relationship when it comes to the subject, (Y/N) knew that she couldn't miss a quiz that could surely affect her grades if she didn't do well enough.

(Y/N) was average when it came to academics. She wasn't as smart as those kind-of snobby top class students of her school, but she wasn't dumb like those students who were cutting classes and spent most of their time in the cafeteria.

However, after knowing that she spent her time playing Brothers Affection last night 'til 3 am in the morning, she felt like she was one of the dumbest girls in existence.

'I can be so stupid sometimes! My teacher and my mom is gonna kill me!' She yelled in her mind and almost felt her knees go weak at the scenario of her asian mother beating her up with her slipper when she realized that her grades were low.

She didn't want to take the risk. She knew how her mother's slipper was powerful enough to almost crack her skull open. Of course, it was an exaggeration but (Y/N) had already been beaten up before by the same item - it surprised her that she didn't die.

As she pedaled faster to reach her destination quicker however, she didn't bother looking to her lefts and rights when she was on the main road already.

A long loud honk caused (Y/N) to whip her head around in confusion and fear, but before she could fully process what was coming towards her, a huge truck slammed its way towards the girl and sent her flying forward with her bike and her bag in the air.

One second, (Y/N) still felt shocked and couldn't process what happened to her until she felt her body hit the road with a loud thud. Her bike clanged loudly beside her and her bag softly landed next to her legs.

She felt her entire body tremble in such tremendous pain that she couldn't even scream as black dots invaded her blurry vision. All she could hear were shouts and screams of bystanders and riders who were running close to her to see if she died from the impact.

She could feel her fingers twitching and her face coming in contact with a dark red liquid that slowly turned into a puddle around her body. Without even uttering a word, (Y/N) felt her vision go black as she left her eyes half-lidded and her body to stop functioning altogether once the heart and the brain concluded that she was dead.

"What in the world is this abomination!?" A shrill young voice echoed around the house and the sound of shoes clicking the tiled floors caused everyone to look at the child that entered the room.

"Why is this filthy rat suddenly outside of her room!?" The child almost screamed while pointing accusingly at the tired and malnourished girl who tightly gripped the hem of her long dirty dress that was patched up by rugs that she found on the house.

The girl had wavy black hair and fear-filled ocean blue eyes. Her hair didn't seem to shine and looked like it hasn't been washed in days and her eyes didn't seem to glimmer; it only dimmed further once she acknowledged the presence of the little girl a few meters away from her.

"Miss (Y/N), your mother asked Charlotte to come out of her room to discuss about certain matters." A maid stepped up to explain to young (Y/N) why the malnourished girl was suddenly in the main halls of her house.

"Mother asked for her?" (Y/N) almost scoffed in disbelief before flipping her (H/C) hair away from her shoulders. "You'd best be leaving, Charlie. You don't want to upset mother."

"I was just about on my way..." Charlotte mumbled under her breath, but (Y/N) clearly saw what she did and narrowed her eyes angrily at the dark haired girl, seething with annoyance.

"Anything you'd like to say, Charlie?" (Y/N) asked, daring the girl to repeat her question so she could give her a punishment that was fit for a peasant like her. Surely, a night out in the dark basement with no food or water could put her in her place.

The dark haired girl flinched at (Y/N)'s question and looked away from her, a look of fear flashing through her eyes as her grip on the hem of her clothes tightened. "No, young miss." mumbled Charlotte, who tried hard not to cry.

(Y/N), who was satisfied with the girl's answer, scoffed and smirked devilishly before walking past the small female. "You'd better stay out of the garden today. My friends will be arriving soon and I will not tolerate a filthy rat like you around the premises and showing my friends your disgusting face." As those harsh words left the young lady's mouth, (Y/N) flipped her hair once more and strutted out of the hallway with her dress flowing gently behind her.

The maid, who saw the whole thing, frowned at her actions and walked closer towards Charlotte. The black haired girl kept her head down to the floor in shame - the light in her eyes was slowly fading out of despair and her body was shaking.

Pity. That's what the maid felt for Charlotte. She didn't deserve this treatment just because she was around the same age as the young girl who also resided in this manor.

"Charlotte, are you alright?" asked the maid, her face contorted in concern and worry for the girl. Charlotte slowly lifted her head up and forced a gentle smile.

"Yes, I'm fine. Thank you for worrying about me." responded Charlotte. Without even giving the maid a chance to say anything else, she already walked away and towards the study room where Lady Ardania, (Y/N)'s mother, was currently.

Each step she took at the marbled floors of the manor, the heavier the feelings inside her heart grew. Why was she born so miserable in this world?

»»----- ♡ -----««

In the large garden of the Ardania manor, where different types of flowers blossomed beautifully, a group of young children around (Y/N)'s age gathered around the large white fancy table.

The table itself had different types of sweets and pastries that the cooks of the manor baked just for this occasion. A giggle escaped (Y/N)'s lips as one of her friends told a story about how one of her servants managed to read a letter that was addressed to her father wrong, which immediately caused a bit of misunderstanding from her father and the servant.

"Servants can be so silly sometimes." commented (Y/N) before taking a sip from her tea, still giggling at the story. "But that's to be expected, they probably never learned how to read or write up until before they were taken in by our families."

The group silently giggled at her words, somewhat agreeing with her statement. A few maids that were listening in to the conversation felt uncomfortable as they lowered their gazes down to the ground.

"Oh, that reminds me, Lady (Y/N)!" One of the girls clapped her hands together excitedly and glanced over at the (H/C) haired girl. "I heard that you are going to visit the royal palace and meet the young princes for a potential engagement with one of them!"

As soon as those words left the girl's mouth, the rest of the group exclaimed in surprise and stared at (Y/N) in amazement.

"Oh my goodness, is that true, my lady!?"
"How lucky!"
"I've always wanted to meet the princes!"
"I heard they look very handsome!"

The overlapping words of praise from the girls caused the young Ardania to smirk as she placed her cup of tea down. How could anyone forget? Early engagement from noble families and the royal families are quite common. Many nobles are using this to this advantage in order for their families to be a part of the royals and live a very luxurious life in the palace.

As young as the age of 10, children from noble families are invited to the royal palace once one of the princes or princesses in order to be engaged. Of course, the engagement doesn't happen straight away - the royal and the noble are given a week to get to know each other before the royal is sure with their choice and get on with the official engagement.

If the royal hasn't chosen from any of the potential noble candidates, they are then given a choice to marry a different country's royal who's also looking for engagements. Truth to be told, a royal marrying a royal should be more common rather than a royal marrying a noble.

However, the decision of choosing a lover lies within the royal who shall soon be engaged. As much as the king and queen might love the idea of their child marrying someone from another country for a diplomatic connection, that power is out of their hands. That was the law after all.

"Yes. I am to meet the princes in the palace three days from now." replied (Y/N), earning squeals and gasps from her friends. "Well, as I am the very pinnacle of what a noblewoman shall be in the future, it is safe to say that one of the princes shall definitely choose me as their bride." She smirked and was so sure that she shall soon be engaged to a prince.

It was one of her lifelong wishes ever since she was five. She always stared longingly at the large royal palace that was at the very center of the city. How would life be like there? What if she was born as a princess instead?

It would be an insult to her if the princes don't even consider her. No, she was absolutely sure that one of them would choose her. They had to.

"Ah," (Y/N) suddenly felt the urge to go to the bathroom. "I must go and relief myself for a second. Please excuse me." She stood up from her seat while her friends are nodding and went back to chattering with themselves.

Before she could take any step further, she immediately heard a distant shout from one of her servants. "Lady (Y/N), watch out!" They shouted.

"Wha-..." Before (Y/N) could register what her servant meant by that, she was immediately greeted by a flower vase falling right on the top of her head. She couldn't even scream or react as she fell on the ground with pieces of the vase scattering around her body.

'This is bad... am I... going to die?' Blood slowly began to pool around her head and her (E/C) eyes drooped as screams, urgent voices, and shouts from her servants and her friends faded around her ears.

However, as soon as she began to lose consciousness, her mind immediately slipped inside a dream. Much to the confusion and amazement of the young girl, she was looking at her dream from a third person perspective.

In her dream, she saw a young woman with (H/C) hair gently cradling a crying baby in her arms. The woman shushed the baby and sang her a few lullabies until the door to her hospital room opened, revealing a tall man looking at the woman on the hospital bed worriedly.

'Who are these people? They look familiar...' thought (Y/N) as the scene shifted around her. Now, she was currently watching the same woman and man clapping eagerly, along with a boy who looked exactly like the man beside him. They were singing a happy birthday song around a girl, who also had the same (H/C) hair as her and the woman.

Now that she thinks about it, the girl looked very much like her - same hair color, same eye color, and same height and weight for a 10 year old girl. 'What is this? Why am I there celebrating this poorly made birthday with a bunch of people I haven't met before?'

'No, wait. I... have met them before. I know them, don't I?' thought (Y/N) as she suddenly became a bit fearful and bits of memories came rushing inside her mind.

The scene shifted once more, and this time, the girl was holding on to the black dress of her mother. Her brother was standing beside her, looking down at the grave where their father was buried in. She could hear the sobs of her mother through the whistle of wind that passed them by.

(Y/N) felt her heart clench at the sight. She felt like she just witnessed something that was way too painful for her to remember about. More memories came flooding in and she eventually started to understand and realize who these people are.

'That's right...' She thought and watched as her other self continued to grow up and get into anime and manga. She watched as she was dozing off at her school. She watched as she laughed with her friends at Discord. She watched as she played an otome game.

She was watching her grow up from the life she had lost way too early.

'This is my...' (Y/N) blinked as a look of disbelief shortly invaded her features. She watched as her other self got rammed by a huge truck just as she was about to go to school. The sickening crack and thud that she heard from the road caused (Y/N) to cringe.

That looked really painful.

Suddenly, her surroundings turned black and she was left to her own thoughts. She was silent for a few moments and tried to piece everything together. When everything was clear, her face turned into a mixture of fear and disbelief.

'No fucking way!' she screamed inside her head. 'I died at the age of eighteen in my previous life and I got reincarnated as a daughter from a noble family!'

(Y/N) was losing it inside her own consciousness. She couldn't wake up at the moment, but at least it gave her enough time to freak out and scream instead of doing it physically. 'Those were definitely my memories just now! Ahh... What should I do!?'

'I can't believe I died too early and got isekai'd by a truck! This feels like a plot of an anime!' She screamed once more and realized how her mother and her brother would react to her death.

She stopped and suddenly felt sad. She just lost her father six years ago, and knowing that her mother certainly couldn't take it if another family member was lost...

(Y/N) frowned then shook her head. There was nothing she could do; she was already living her life as a bratty, spoiled child who tormented other people for no reason. She can't go back to her previous life.

Upon knowing that she was mistreating a lot of people up until this point, (Y/N) felt disgusted with herself and sighed defeatedly. Why was she so cruel with that girl Charlotte? And why does she sees those maids and servants as if they're incapable of doing even the slightest of work?

Being a noble's daughter sucks.

Blinking her eyes, (Y/N) remembered that there was exactly someone like that in the otome game that she played the night before she died.

'I think her name was (Y/N) Ardania? I never liked sharing the same name as that girl.' thought (Y/N) spitefully. 'She was the main antagonist of the game and always liked picking on us when we were younger just because we were a servant in her manor. What a stuck up bitch.'

As (Y/N) recalled poorly mistreating Charlotte the most, she also recalled her appearance and how she almost looked afraid to be in the same room as her. 'Come to think of it, don't we have black hair and green eyes too based from the... official... artworks...'

She became silent again and her brain was going overdrive from the amount of thinking she was currently doing inside her consciousness. (Y/N)'s face paled and she almost felt herself shaking in disbelief. 'No way...'

'Ardania... That's my last name in this new life...' thought (Y/N). 'Charlotte has black hair and green eyes... I'm constantly picking on her... I'm a daughter of a noble who was chosen to be a potential candidate for an engagement with one of the princes of the country... This is exactly like...!'

Just as (Y/N) was about to fill in the blanks, she felt her entire mind shut down and stop her from assuming things any further. A few seconds in the darkness of her mind, she then felt her eyes flutter open as a small groan escaped her lips.

"Lady (Y/N)!" One of the maids exclaimed worriedly when her eyes landed upon the stirring figure of the little girl on the bed. "Are you alright? Are you feeling ill?"

The girl blinked for a moment, her vision steadying on the ceiling before she turned to look at the maid who was looming above her. "Um..." (Y/N) muttered and sat up from her bed. As soon as she let her body move, she felt her head throb in pain.

Her arms felt like noodles and her legs felt like they haven't been moved for an entire year. As soon as (Y/N) finally realized where she was and took notice of her surroundings, the feeling of dread that she felt once she realized who she was returned.

Her stomach churned nervously and her heart was beating fast. She's definitely not dreaming this up right now.

(Y/N) turned to look at the maid beside her, who was still waiting for her response. "Um... How long has it been since I lost my consciousness?" asked the girl.

The maid straightened herself but still looked pretty concerned. "You have been in bed for 2 whole days, my lady." She replied. "When we heard that you've gotten into an accident, we were surprised and scared when we saw your unconscious body by the garden while surrounded by broken vase pieces."

The maid continued while (Y/N) was trying to take all of it in. "We don't know the reason why a vase had fallen out of the window in the first place, but please rest assured that none of it would happen again."

"O-Oh, don't worry about that." stuttered the girl on the bed with a nervous smile. "I'm just glad that no one else got seriously hurt with it. Were the girls... uh... okay after that?"

Apparently, (Y/N)'s response was too unexpected that the maid's mouth just silently opened in surprise. The (Y/N) Ardania actually cared about whether or not others got hurt? They weren't cursing at her for not knowing what caused her injury?

She expected her to scream or shout right after waking up. Maybe throw a tantrum and order her to find the 'incompetent' servant who would make such a mistake.

"Um..." Still not knowing how to respond, the maid stumbled over what she was going to say but immediately regained her composure. "Yes, they went home safely after that. They were quite shaken up after the whole incident."

Breathing out a sigh of relief, (Y/N) pulled up a gentle smile. "That's great." She said.

"Um, my lady," The maid frowned worryingly towards the young girl. Did she have a brain damage to cause her to act like this?

"Are you really alright?"

"Well yes, I'm fine. Don't worry about me. Like I said, I'm just glad that no one else got hurt." replied (Y/N).

"Aren't you um... angry?"

"Why would I be angry?" Now, (Y/N) was just confused. There was nothing for her to be mad about. It was a sudden accident and she couldn't have done something to avoid it.

'Besides, I'm kinda thankful that I got hit by a falling vase because I got my memories back. It's still freaky to think that I might be in  that world, but I can't be too sure.' she thought to herself as the maid was now just gaping at her in shock.

She'd never seen the young daughter of Duke Ardania act or say something like this. Normally, she'd be throwing a tantrum the moment she opened her eyes and then continue yelling about how incompetent her servants are.

She was never the type to say 'I'm glad that no one else got hurt' - she was way too self-centered to say that.

Did the vase hit her head too hard that it caused her to have a split personality? Whatever it is, the maid found it a bit skeptical but also somewhat thankful that she wasn't acting as bratty as she was before.

"W-Well then, I shall inform Duke and Duchess Ardania that you've awakened." The maid bowed down respectfully in front of (Y/N) before walking over to the door. "Excuse me."

"Ah, thank you for taking care of me." The young girl called out towards the maid before she left, who turned to look at her with slightly widened eyes and a look of confusion before leaving the room.

Now it was just (Y/N) by herself. She started to frown frustratingly and cross her arms over her chest. Thinking deep, the girl closed her eyes and retreated back to her own thoughts.

'It's still too soon to decide that I'm really inside an otome game...' She thought and just the idea of being inside an otome game and being the villainess made her shiver for a second. 'But the more I think about it, the more it becomes likely that I am...'

Opening her eyes, she glanced over towards the large glass window of her room and caught sight of the large royal palace that sat on the very center of the city where she lived. The frown on her face deepened that it almost looked like a scowl.

'If... If I really am (Y/N) Ardania from the game Brothers' Affections...'

'It won't be long before I say goodbye to my short life once again and I absolutely cannot let that happen no matter what...!'

I've been reading way too much reincarnated as a villainess comics.
