Chapter 3
Grace's POV
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP.
My alarm clock sounds, urging me to get up. The noise rings in my brain, annoying as hell. I haven't needed to hear this sound in 6 weeks and I am not happy to be hearing it again.
I open my eyes reluctantly and glare at it. 6:00 AM it reads. An un-normal time to be getting up, I think to myself. I pull my hand out from the covers and smash my closed fist down onto it. It stops, making a weird noise as it turns off.
"Grace! Don't tell me you've broken your alarm clock already?!" I hear my mum call from outside the door. I groan and fall out my bed onto the floor.
I land with a thud, face down on the carpet. "I hope I have." I slide my hands under me and get up onto my feet. I peer at my face in the mirror and I look like a monster.
My hair is flipped over to one side, in tangles. I look like I haven't had any sleep for the past week due to the massive bags underneath my eyes.
I scowl at my reflection and look over to my folded school uniform.
Today will be the day I meet my doom.

"Morning angel." My mum smiles sweetly at me while placing down my cereal in front of me. I eye it disgustedly.
"More like Dracula." May laughs, scooping Coco Pops into her mouth. At least she's back to her normal self. Bouncy and jumpy as always.
"Homework?" I ask lifting my head slightly to look at her. She nods her head frantically.
"All complete! I'm all ready for the new year! New bag, new pencil case, new....."She goes on. I push my cereal away from my face and get up from the chair, the legs making a scraping sound against the floor.
"I'm not hungry. I'm going to get my bag." I say, leaving the room in a stunned silence. I'm never usually in a good mood at this time in the morning. Though who is before school?
I trudge up the stairs and grab my bag from the banister. The weight of it pulls me down to the ground. "Stupid school bag," I say to it like it's a person and lift it onto my shoulders. I reach the bottom floor and May comes skipping out the kitchen.
"Ready to go?" I ask her. She takes a deep breath in before answering my question.
"Yep!" She swings her bag onto her back. My mum comes through the door and holds her hands up to her face.
"It's like the time Peter had to take Grace to school. I remember it like it was yesterday." She cries, waving her hands in front of her face.
"Except we've done this before.......last year," I state, rolling my eyes.
"Oh never mind. Have a brilliant day!" She smiles and kisses us both on the cheek. May hugs her tightly and then walks out the door. My mum then turns to me.
"Try your hardest Grace. And make sure to visit Peter after school!" She reminds me as I'm exiting the house. Like I would forget to visit him. I close the door behind me while May bounces up and down.
"Let's go!" I smile and she links her arm around mine. We set off down the road. "Grace? Are we meeting Anna today?" She asks.
"Yep as usual."
"KK. Then you will drop me off at school and then walk on to yours?" She skips along the pavement.
"And then on the way home, I'll pick you up," I say, knowing what question she'll ask next. She seems satisfied with my answers and continues to walk. "How was your sleep last night?" I ask and she slows down her pace?
"Why are you asking?" She says defensively and I sense something up.
"I was just wondering. Because you didn't get any the night before."
"Oh. Good, I guess." I peer down to her and she looks up at me into my eyes. Her brown iris shining in the sunlight.
"May, is there something you're not telling me?" I ask her.
"MAY! GRACE!" Anna's voice suddenly rings in my brain and I feel a massive weight on my back.
"Gah, get off me, Anna!" I scream. She jumps down and runs over to May and squeezes her into a hug.
"Anna! I only saw you yesterday!" She gasps for air. Anna lets go and places her hands on her hips.
"Yes! But I saw you at a normal time yesterday. And what time is it right now?" She asks, beaming.
"It's the ridiculous time of 7:30." I groan back.
"Exactly! Ok, let go!" She shouts and strides forward. May and I trail after her. "Sooooooo May? How are you?" Anna asks her.
"I'm fine! Why is everyone asking me that question!?" She shouts and walks in front of us. Anna leans in towards me.
"She ok?"
"Nope. But I want to find out why." I say.
Eventually, we reach the entrance of May's primary school. Bustling kids run in through the gates, greeted by the teachers that stand outside. May stops as she's about to go through. She turns around to face me.
"May, have fun at school K?" I say, leaning down to her height. She nods slowly, her bounciness seeming to have disappeared on the way here. I hug her and she wraps her arms around me.
"May! Hi!" I hear one of her friends shout and I release her. She waves to me and I do the same back until she turns away. Anna drags me away and we continue down the pavement.
I feel a buzz in my pocket and pull out my phone.
You here yet? - Mat
"I knew that boy was going to be the first one to arrive. Emily must be running around wondering where everyone is." Anna peeks her head over my shoulder. I smirk and quickly type my reply.
Just coming round the corner xx - Grace
It only takes him a few seconds to answer
You and your kisses - Mat
Anna runs up in front of me and bounces up and down. "This year, Grace Edwards will be our year! YA HEAR ME?!" She screams.
"You said that last year," I say bluntly. She sighs at my response and we go through the gates. Some buses pull up as we walk in and children quickly come out from them.
Many people are standing on the sides, talking to their friends about their summers. In the distance, I can see Mat and Emily standing together. Mat walks up to hug me and I return him with one.
"So this is secondary school huh?" Mat chuckles. Emily shuffles nervously beside him which he notices. "Emily..."
"I'm fine Mat. Really." She tries to convince her brother but he doesn't look to be having any of it.
"Really? Because it doesn't look like it." She sighs at his response and I watch them bicker.
"So the whole gang's here!" Anna shouts and brings everyone into a group hug. She does this regularly so I'm getting used to it.
"Anna! Stop squeezing me!" Mat growls at Anna.
"Well aren't you a little ray of sunshine today?"
"Ok, that's it! Anna Clefield get over here!" He screams and they both chase each other. Emily smiles nervously at me when I look at her.
"Guys I'm taking Emily to her form room!" We leave them and enter one of the buildings. "So you've got Mr. Yung as a form tutor, right? You've gotten pretty lucky." I say as I'm navigating myself through the halls.
"Yea that's what I've been told by literally everyone. It's sad I couldn't get into Anna's form." She says. I managed to convince the head of year to allow Mat into my form but Anna's form didn't have any more spaces. And nor did mine.
"But it helps you make friends!" I try and convince her. But my eyes focus on something behind her.
Nathan walks down the corridor, alone. His eyes meet mine and then he stops beside me. "Grace, I'm really sorry about your brother." He says. I raise my eyebrows at him as he shuffles in front of me.
"Didn't the thing with Peter happen 4 years ago?" I say.
"I didn't know about it until my sister told me. She volunteers at the hospital he's in. She sometimes walks down the ward and sees you standing beside his bed." He says. He waves his hand and then walks away. Emily stands awkwardly beside me.
The bell sounds and people start to crowd the halls. "You'll be fine, Emily. Meet you at break." I walk away when I watch her go into her form room.
I walk outside and see Mat about to go into the building that has our form room in. I run up to him and catch him by surprise.
"So did you win the game of cat and mouse with Anna?" I smirk. He smiles with pride.
"I did actually! Caught her like she should be!" We make it to the form room and go inside. Everyone seems to be there already, talking to their friends.
Mat and I walk over to the teacher at her table. "Ah, Mrs. Edwards how lovely to see you. And this must be your friend!"
"Mat Clefield. I'm new." He introduces himself and the teacher thinks for a while.
"Do you happen to be related to Anna Clefield?" She asks and I smile.
"Nope. But I do know her." He tries to hide his frustration.
"Hm ok. You can sit next to Grace." She says and then goes back to her work.
We walk over to my desk and sit net to each other. "Do you think Emily will be ok?" He says.
"She looked worried when she was about to go into the form room but I'm sure she'll make a lot of friends. And if she doesn't, she has us. You're a brilliant brother." I reassure him. I understand what he feels.
I try to look after May the best I can. When she's worried I would do anything to make her happy. I try to believe that was the same with Peter when I was younger. But even when Mat is only a few minutes older than Emily, Emily is less experienced in the Human world.
"Well, if it isn't Grace Edwards? Haven't talked to you in a while." An annoyed voice says behind me and I turn to see Maisie and Vennessa. I almost forgot they were in my form.
"Why would I need to." I snap back and many people silence around us. They don't seem pleased with my answer.
"We've heard about your brother. We also know that the treatment is getting a bit expensive eh?" Vennessa growls and I start to get frustrated. I don't understand why everyone brings up my brother in conversations.
"I know. I've been told many times before." I scowl at them. Mat puts his hand on my back trying to calm me down.
"We don't want your powers flaring up on the first day." He whispers into my ear and I take a deep breath in. My hands are clenched into fists on my lap.
"Well, I hope he gets better. He was practically the only one protecting you. See ya." She chirps, making her sentence sound sweet even though it's completely bitter.
I wanted to smash her face in and burn her with my powers. But I couldn't. I had to hold myself back so my family didn't have to go through any more trouble. Everyone realises that the conversation had finished and walks away.
"I hate those two," I growl and Mat smiles.
"I didn't realise you were so feisty. I never thought I would have a feisty girlfriend. Well, I didn't think I would get a girlfriend, let alone a fierce one." He mumbles on and I kiss him on the cheek.
"I'm glad to have you as a boyfriend. Whether I'm feisty or not." I wink at him.
"Ok, everyone! Let's run through the main events of the year." The teacher shouts to the class and we stop talking.

Hey little baby fire balls!
This is a really long chapter because the start of it was bigger than I thought. I've also been really busy this weekend so I had to write this round my Grandparents house.......Again.
But sadly, I'm going back to school on Tuesday and then the Monday after that I am getting braces. RIP me. I also have test week that week so I'm going to be running around trying to revise and everything.
REMEBER TO ENTER THE DRAWING COMPETITON AS YOU ONLY HAVE ONE WEEK LEFT. I haven't got any entries yet but I have about 4 people who are saying that they are going to enter. If you need any help please ask me!
I guess that's about it. I said all I think I've said ( That sounded so much like a Hamilton line with talking to Burr about him saying that he didn't have any beliefs. No.....Yes?) Anyway,
Baiiiiii
