Chapter 25
Grace's POV
I sit in the living room, the loudspeakers of the TV filling the area with sound.
I'm still trying to get over Mat. It's only been a few days since we've broken up but it feels like a lifetime. It's funny how when you've been with someone for so long, you then find it hard to live without them.
Of course, Anna, being the best friend she is, has been texting me practically every hour since. She says 'I want to make sure you're not going to do something you regret,' whatever that means.
May, however, has been acting odd recently. I've barely seen her and she comes down for the meals but doesn't speak a word. Our parents are oblivious as they're too distracted with the dramas at 'work'.
"GRACE!" Someone screams and I suddenly hear someone storming down the stairs. May bursts in, still in her pajamas.
"Morning," I say, a small smile appearing on my face. My little sister looks around for a moment before I see a glint in her eye. "Doing anything today?" I ask. Today our parents are home so we can't go to power training.
"Oh, I've invited Cleo round. And because I knew you weren't going to be doing anything either, I brought Anna along for the ride too." She says smoothly and I pause for a second. She sees this but doesn't say anything.
"But our parents are home today?"
"Yea but they're going out to get something from the shop so we should be fine. And we have 4 powers to use in case they were to come back so what could go wrong?" She skips out the room before I can protest.
I take in what I've just heard. I wonder if May has told Cleo that there is a possibility that our parents could be home when they're here? I don't think she would risk it, not after all the excitement she's having from being free.
I feel a buzz in my hands and see a text pop up on my phone. 'Cleo is taking me round your to meet up with May. See you in 5 I guess?' it reads. So it seems May has already made the decision to invite them round before asking me.
I message back a simple K before getting up to get ready for them to arrive. This is going to be interesting.
***5 Minutes Later**
"They're here!" May shouts up to me as I'm fiddling with my hair. I take one last look at myself in the mirror before I leave my room and head downstairs.
Anna comes in through the door first, greeting May with a smile. "Hey, cutie. Nice seeing you again." She ruffles her brown curls, leaving her finger on the white strand for the longest. Cleo follows after her.
"Hi, May." She says but the grin on her face doesn't fill her face. She can sense something as well and I know she doesn't like the feeling. I don't think May notices though, as she hugs her and then takes Cleo into the living room.
Anna looks towards me. "Parents not home?" She asks quietly.
"Apparently. May is walking on slippery surfaces with this one." I lower my voice so that the girls can't hear us.
"You didn't know about this?"
"Not until 5 minutes ago. But I think May had already planned this out beforehand..." I trail off as Anna gives me the look that I've been dreading. "What if Mat was right?"
"And he didn't cheat on you? Isn't that what he was trying to tell you?" Anna says and I instantly feel a sense of regret in my stomach.
I haven't even bothered messaging Emily since we broke up to see how he's doing. But now that there's a chance that he could've been telling the truth and it was my little sister who had done the evilness...
"Hey. Earth to Grace!" Anna shouts in my face and I quickly snap out my trance of thinking about Mat. "You had the look of 'I'm depressed and I don't know what to do,' on your face."
"Well, I'm glad you took me out of it because I can imagine that it wasn't pleasant." I roll my eyes and take my friend into the living room where the others are. Cleo and May both sit on the sofas and look towards us when we walk in.
"Grace! Can we go out to town? Cleo still has so many things she needs to do. And also can we have lunch?" May asks me quickly. I raise my eyebrows at the sudden request.
"Cleo has only been in this country for a month now. And in that time she's already been to school. It's not like her time is limited." I say and Cleo looks down to her hands as if she can see destruction in them.
"But can we go anyway?"
"Well unless you can find a ride to town without needing our parents, you're stuck. Sorry little sis but I'm not that old yet." May sighs and then looks at the time on her watch. I also look at my phone. 11:30.
Now, where do I remember that being said.....'be back at 11:30 girls!' Now, who might've said that? I curse under my breath, earning a look from everyone in the room. "Our parents are going to be back any second!"
"What?!" Cleo jolts up and begins to search the room. "May, you said they weren't going to be home until 4!" She panics.
"Right, I don't think we have enough time to get Cleo out the house before they get home." Anna snaps into action. "Could we hide her in your room in that wardrobe of yours until they leave again?"
"Yea I guess. I'll make sure to stay in my room for the whole day so that they don't come in." I answer and take Cleo's hand to drag her to my room. But when we reach the door, a blue shield comes up.
I touch it and it shocks me instantly. "You're not going anywhere." An evil voice says behind me. I turn to see May holding out her hands, activating her powers. I look into my sister's eyes and see an evil soul.
"May. Whatever L has done to you, we can help. But Cleo needs to get out of here." I say slowly as Anna attempts to break the shield on the door. But the noise of the front door opening silences us all.
"People these days. If you don't drive in the week, you shouldn't be driving on the weekend!" The voice of my dad complaining makes everyone's, but May's, face go pale. Cleo darts towards a cabinet to hide behind.
"Don't try escaping. You've already lost." May changes the direction of her power towards Cleo. A blue circle surrounds the girl, blocking her ways of escape. "Hey, guys! We're in here!" May shouts to our parents.
Anna shoots an electricity ball at May which she gracefully ducks. For once, I'm not angry that someone is trying to attack my evil sister. Suddenly, the door opens as my parents walk through.
First, they look at me, then at Anna and then at May. But what makes my dad's mouth open is when he spots Cleo. My mum gasps and raises a hand to her mouth. "This is where you've been?!"
"Hey, Liam and Mary. Long time no see huh?" Cleo tries to crack a joke but the tension in the stays low. "I-I..."
"Liam. Call the police. The fairy police." My mum orders but dad doesn't do anything. "Liam!"
"Cleo. When I said, I'm letting you go, I didn't mean leave the fairy world. You can't be in the human world. Do you understand the danger you're putting the whole population in?!" He shouts at her.
My mum then looks around the room and spots the blue circle that surrounds Cleo. "Anna. That better be you making that power." I look towards Anna and she shakes her head at me. They already know she has powers, we won't be able to cover this up.
"Grace is."
I snap my head towards my little sister. She did not. This is not happening. "Grace? You have powers?"
"I-I" I stutter, not sure what to answer. They've just found out a secret that I've been hiding for 4 years. "Let Cleo go."
"What power. Do you have?" My mum asks slowly like she's talking to a kid. I can almost see the steam coming out from her ears.
"Fire."
"Ok. Everything is going to be alright. We're going to call the Fairy Police to get Cleo contained. And then we're going to ground you for life. Understand?" My Mum stays sternly, reaching for the phone.
Anna shoots the phone out her hands and then shoots at May's hands so that the shield goes down. "Cleo run!" She darts out the room, narrowly missing the grasps of my parents. Anna follows after her leaving just me and May at the end of our parent's wrath.
"Grace. Go upstairs." My dad orders and I do what I'm told.
And that's how this day ends. Cleo in hiding, my secret out and May confirmed evil. Great. Just great.
