Chapter 21

Cleo's POV

"May! No!" I cry out as I flap away the smoke that fills my lungs. But once I had managed to clear my eyesight, I was faced with a metal fence. "I'm supposed to be looking after May!" My breathing rushes as I try to decide my next move.

"Breathe Cleo. If you were Grace, what would you do?" I mutter to myself, trying to obtain calmness so that I don't spark my powers. "Go get help. To do that, I need to get out of school."

I run out from behind the building, hitting the light. No one seemed to have witnessed the disappearance of May so that's one hurdle cleared. Next, I need to think of a lie to fool the teachers. Shouldn't be too hard.

I fast-walk into the building and head towards the reception that I remember looking at when I had my tour around the school. A lady sits behind the counter, tapping away at her computer, distracted. Maybe I could sneak by her without being seen? Oh, how I wish I had invisibility powers and not morphing powers.

But, I could also think of something to say to help me get out. That way I could only break the rules slightly. I walk up towards the counter and clear my throat to get her attention. The lady looks up with a straight face, annoyed that I've interrupted her work. "Hello. Do you need anything?"

"Uh hi. It's a tester day for me and I'm supposed to be leaving at this time. But my parents are too busy to pick me up so I'm meeting my mum at the bus stop. Can I sign out?" I ask, attempting to sound confident so that she doesn't see past my lie.

"Ah ok. Just sign here." She hands me a yellow book and pen before pointing to a box on the page. That was surprisingly easy. This school needs to keep more of a check on their students. I put my signature in and then waltz out the door, going at a quick pace so they can't stop me.

Now, I find help

***Sometime later***

Grace's POV

"I wonder how Cleo is getting along at school," Anna says as she begins to tuck into her sandwich before moaning in delight. I chuckle and start to eat my own food. "She had one rule, I'm sure she can restrain herself."

"You're acting like she's a five year old. Cleo is perfectly capable on her own." Anna raises her eyebrows when I mention this.

"Trust me. You didn't spend the whole weekend with her. She's like a scheming devil."

"She's a kid. An 8-year-old kid." Mat rolls his eyes, making Anna cross her arms over her chest. Both I and Emily suck in a breath, awaiting the next move.

"You. Have no idea." Anna shakes her head. "Just go a crawl back to your sheltered hole Clefield."

"How many times do I have to tell you! You can't call me Clefield when you have the same second name." Mat scolds her as she scoffs. "Cleo used to live in the strictest place in the Fairy World. I'm sure she knows how to behave."

"I can imagine it now. Blowing up every child in that Primary school..." Anna sighs looking into the distance with dread covering her face. "I hope they blow up that teacher I had in Year 5. What was her name? Gallen? Grey?"

"GUYS! HELP!" A recognisable voice shouts to our group from a distance. I turn to my friends before looking towards the voice. "GRACE! ANNA!"

"You've got to be kidding. What did I say?" Anna argues again with Mat, pointing to Cleo who's running towards our lunch table. My heart raises as she arrives, out of breath. "This better be good."

"It's May....Lucifer has her." She panics, placing a hand on her chest to calm her breathing. "H-He came to the school and took her. I tried to save her but I couldn't use my powers." My eyes widen and I feel faintness come over me.

My whole table suddenly gets up and snap into action. I run a nervous hand through my hair, feeling weak in my legs. "Did he say where he will be taking her?" Mat asks, coming to my side and taking my hand.

"No. He said he was doing his job but that was it."

"We need to split up. Where is May likely to go when scared?" Everyone now turns to me and I can barely think when May could possibly be being held captive by Lucifer.

"Uh Home, Forest, Hospital and possibly the Park? I'm not sure." I release a shaky breath. "We need to contact Flora. There might be things that she'll be able to do."

"Right. Grace can go to the Hospital, I'll go to the Forest, Cleo the Park, Emily can go to their house." Mat gives everyone their search area while I try and pull myself together. "Anna, you'll attempt to contact Flora."

"And the gate to the school is wide open so we can leave. When finished, meet up at the forest so that we can see if we have any more information." Anna instructs everyone.

"What if we don't find her?" I turn to Mat and he squeezes my hand. "She's only 8 and we don't to the full extent what he does to her in her dreams. What will he do to her now that she can't wake up?"

"We will find her. And once we do, L will be severely punished." Mat assures me but I don't feel much calmer. "Ok people. Let's go."

****Later***

"So sweetie, who are you here to visit today?" An old, fragile lady asks me in the elevator as we go up the levels of the Hospital. She smiles at me, trying to make small talk.

"Uh, my brother," I mutter, not in the mood to talk. Anything could be happening to May at the moment. And I don't want to waste time talking to random people when I could be looking for my sister.

"Oh, that's sweet." She smiles, revealing her non-existent teeth. "I'm sure he'll be really excited to see you." Just as she's saying this, a bell dings and the door slides open.

"He's in a coma." I mutter before strolling out, leaving the old lady speechless. Yes, I know she was just being nice but she asked and I answered! It's her fault she decided to catch me on a bad day.

I walk down the corridor that I've walked through so many times before, dodging each nurse and doctor who comes my way. Please, please, please let May be there, I beg.

Once I get to my brother's ward, I waste no time in opening the door and scanning the room for my sister. No one. Just the usual beds and their occupants. I'm about to leave when I notice Peter's bed. Beautiful Blue, Red and Yellow roses lay on his bedside table.

"Hey, Peter," I say cautiously when walking up to him, eyeing the bouquet suspiciously. A card sticks out of it, with swirly writing on the front. "Who gave this to you huh?" I ask my sleeping brother.

I slide my finger under the paper to open it and then take the card out. On the front it has 'I'm Sorry' in swirly writing. I burrow my eyebrows together, confused to who might've given this to him. I open the card and begin to read the letter:

Dear Peter,

You might not see this for a while but I wanted to get this off my chest. I'm sorry for how I treated you 4 years ago. I've changed since I saw you and I realised that I owed you an apology. I hope you wake up soon.

Signed Nathan

Nathan? Why would he send a letter to my brother? With flowers? I smile at the thought of others thinking of Peter who's not his family. I place the card back in the flowers, hoping that when Peter wakes up he'll be able to read it.

"If you see May, let me know," I tell Peter as I kiss him on the cheek and leave the hospital room. Now, I can continue looking for my other sibling.

***Later***

"Any luck?" I ask frantically as everyone arrives at the forest, the assigned meeting place. Everyone shakes their heads, sighing. I rake my hands through my hair, getting stressed by the minute. "She's not here! Where is she!?"

"Grace, calm down." Flora, who got summoned by Anna, watches me pace back and forth. "I can do a spell." I halt and then whip my head towards her.

"Well then get to doing that spell!" I shout, letting out a shaky breath. "What spell is it? Appearing spell?"

"Well, you need to be a Penel to do that and also have that power..." She wanders off before noticing my strict expression. "It's a seeking spell. You can find where someone is. And before you start that next sentence, do you mind changing your mood?"

"Flora, I wouldn't mess with her at the moment," Emily warns the fairy. "Can you do this seeking spell?"

"Yes, or I wouldn't be telling you this would I?" Flora holds out her hands and a mist cloud appears. I wait anxiously for a picture to show as my heart beats out my chest. "We should see May any moment now."

We all watch the cloud turn into a baby blue colour. It swirls around until Flora cries out and the cloud turns red. She drops her hands, clutching her chest and the cloud disappears. "What does that mean Flora?"

"It means...May is in the only place where the seeking spell can't reach."

"Devil World."
