Confrontations

I jammed on this chapter the last few days, Remy's mad as hell and has a little 'talk with Lance. Will it go well? I guess that depends on your definition of well.

Chapter Eight: The Confrontation

Remy stood on the street corner watching the cab drive off until it was out of sight. His motorcycle was sitting nearby and he looked over towards the bike and noticed the chrome glowing in the moonlight. For some reason at the moment he felt like The Ghost Rider and made a plan of what he needed to do. He walked over to his bike and started it up with one destination in mind. He was adamant on finding someone, and he made a beeline for the one place he figured he would end up.

Riding down the street, he felt disappointed in the way the night ended up, but he didn't blame any of that on his girlfriend. He understood that none of this was her fault, and she just wanted to help her friend. It's one of the things he loved about her, but he was not about to let Lance get away with ruining his evening.

He finally stopped his bike in front of the Brotherhood House and noticed that Lance's jeep was in the driveway. That meant he probably was home, but Remy thought that place he really belonged was in jail. He knew about the little jobs the brotherhood boys pulled off, something about the reselling of car parts, but he wasn't going to rat them out. He had done worse in the past.

He parked his bike and walked up to the front door and knocked loudly, perhaps a little too loudly. "Where's the hurricane?!" he heard Toad shout from inside the house. Suddenly the door swung open and he saw Toad's weird face from the top corner of the doorway.

"Where's Lance?" Remy asked as he walked in the house.

"Hey, who said you could come in?" Toad asked leaping down to the floor.

"I did," Remy said and looked around but didn't see any of his housemates. "Now, be a good little frog and go get Avalanche."

"What if I don't?" Toad said trying to stretch his body to make himself as tall as possible. "And the name's Toad."

"You know what we do to little toads on the Bayou?" Remy asked taking out one of his cards and started to charge it. Toad had a look of fright on his face. "Barbeque," he said slowly.

"Uhhh, he's upstairs," Toad said stuttering out of fright. "I'll go get him, just put that thing out, okay?" He backed up until he got to the staircase. "Uhhh, Lance, company." Toad still had his eye on Remy until he saw that he discharged the card.

Toad leaped up the stairs trying to get out of Gambit line of sight as soon as possible. "Who the hell is it?" Remy heard Lance Alvers' voice from the top of the stairs. Toad let out a little screech and then saw Lance's form climbing down the staircase. Remy stood in the spot that was out of his sight wanting his surprise visit to be just that.

"So Kitty, you come over to apologize?" Lance asked with some smugness in his voice.

"Wrong," Gambit said while leaning against the wall and shuffling his cards.

Lance just rolled his eyes looking annoyed. "What do you want?"

"Time we had a little chat," Gambit said and walked closer to him. He put his cards back into his pocket, while Lance gave a hard swallow. Usually when he wanted to make a point with the Brotherhood he would just throw a card causing some structural damage to the property, but right now he was too deliberate and calculating with his movements.

"What if I don't want to talk to you?" Lance said with a scowl in his voice. "If Kitty sent you over here to manipulate me into an apology you can forget it."

"She don' know I'm here," he said and Lance just laughed.

"Then your girlfriend sentyou, and like an obedient little puppy dog you do whatever she wants."

"Rogue don' know either," he said and grabbed him by the shirt and slammed him against the wall. "You hurt Kitty, you hurt Rogue, and dat ain't allowed."

He felt the floor start to rumble and Gambit started to charge the very clothes Lance was wearing. "Knock off the powers, or I light you up like a Christmas tree."

Lance looked horrified and his face turned white. "Okay, just cut it out."

Gambit let go of him but barely let him move from the spot he was standing. "Now, you're gonna get on dat phone of yours an I know you got one, and tell Kitty you're sorry."

"But she's the one who knocked me out," Lance said trying to defend himself. "Plus the restaurant is making me pay for the damage."

"You got off easy," Gambit said not having an ounce of sympathy for the younger boy. "If I did dat to Rogue I be in the hospital."

"Really, then why didn't your psycho girlfriend come after me?" Lance shouted out the question which Gambit responded with a look of rage in his eyes.

"You show some respect when you speak a Rogue," Gambit said and looked like he was getting ready to punch him in his face. "Right now, she takin' care a Kitty. Now, call."

"Fine," Lance said and reached into his pocket to fish out his phone. His hands were shaking as he dialed the number. "Hey, Kitty!" he said and put the call on speaker at Gambit's insistence.

"What do you want?" Kitty's voice came through the line.

"I wanted to say I'm sorry," Lance said trying to sound sincere but there was some smugness in his voice.

"Oh, really," he said seeming not to buy his apology.

"Yeah, so do you still..."

"What? Have Rogue's powers. Yeah, and I don't know if that's ever going to change, and even if it does, Lance Alvers, we're done. Got it?!"

"So you're not even going to let me make it up to you?!" he asked, anger peeking into his voice. "I made a mistake, okay."

"Yeah, the last one!" Kitty yelled into the phone so loud it looked like Lance's phone was going to jump out of his hand. "We are through!"

Suddenly the line went silence. "Kitty!" Lance yelled but he got no answer. "Kitty!"

"She hung up on you," Gambit said with a bit of a chuckle. "Tuff break."

"This is your fault!" Lance shouted while the floor started to rumble. Gambit was ready for his impulsive behavior and had a card ready and quickly charged it and threw it at Lance. The younger boy got swept off of his feet and fell on the floor on his backside.

Gambit gave a chuckle before turning for the door. "My work is done," he said before walking out.

He casually walked to his motorcycle somehow knowing Lance and the other boys would not follow. They were familiar about his little calling cards and Lance probably knew he had taken all he could for one night.

Once he reached his bike he pulled out his phone and sent Rogue a text.

Lunch tomorrow. Are you free?

He waited a few minutes until he saw a notification show up.

After training. Pick me up at noon. She wrote back.

Only wild horses could keep me away.

I'm sure.

It put a smile on his face hearing from her so quickly. It was like she had been waiting for him to contact her.

Tomorrow. That seemed so far away, but he would get through this night somehow. When and if he would fall into sleep, he would be dreaming of her.

Thanks for reading, and there is one chapter left. I'll try to get it up in the next few days. Leave a comment and a vote if you like and see you later.
