Pyra, the Ring of Fire

LAYNES P.O.V. WRITTEN BY LayneFranks

School ended as the bell rang at 3:05; once I entered my test results I walked out the door of Antioch Bay High not really caring if I did good on my test or not, I was more focused on my ring. During class I had put my ring on my right middle finger, since the ring had engravings of fire on it I started to call it, the Ring of Fire.

Kaleb didn't look too happy when we met each other at the front of the school.

I also noticed he kept his eye on, Derek the school bully but covered his other eye with his hand.

"Ready?" I ask excitedly, but yet still a little nervous.

"For what?" Kaleb answered as he got closer.

"The rings," I say in almost a whisper since a bunch of kids would constantly walk past us.

"Oh... sure, sure," Kaleb took his hand away from his face but looked at his feet so I couldn't see him.

"What happened? Did Derek do something to you, I see you watching him like a hawk."

This time he looked up.

He had a black eye, and not a pretty one.

"Derek wouldn't give me my seat in one of my classes, I didn't want to fight so I walked away, then he punched me."

"And...?" I knew he wasn't telling the whole story.

"And... I knocked him out..."

"What?!"

"Yeah, I don't know what happened to me, when he punched I wanted to fight back, so... He never got back up."

Then I laughed, "That's awesome!"

"I also got a mean taking to from the principal."

"Ohhh, not awesome... but at least you showed who's boss," I laughed again. Kaleb didn't laugh or smile, he just walked past me.

"Hey! Where are you going?"

"Home!" He shouted.

"How about the rings?!" I shout louder, but he was already too far to hear I guess, or hard headed.

I sighed and I as well headed home.

My house is not a big house but not a small house.

As I walked up to my house, I heard my dogs Frankie and Max scratching at the side fence, barking as if to say hi.

I walked inside my house, past my little brother, John, sometimes called Johnny or Red, he has red hair and blue eyes, I sometimes call him Red and he hates it!

But before I enter my room in the very back, my mom shouts,

"DON'T FORGET TO STUDY YOUR GREEK!"

I grunt, "OK!" then I walk into my red and blue Spider-Man room. I felt a little mad that Kaleb just blew off the fact that we were going to hang out, but I knew I would get over it soon, he always does stuff like that. I wanted to know why when we had the rings on we felt so good.

After about 2 hours of spending time on my Greek, (Greek is not something I do for homework, my mom just wants somebody in the family to learn a interesting language, so she told me to study Greek) I finally try to answer my last question.

What is the Greek name for Fire?

(A) Fos

(B) Hudor

(C) Ekklesia

(D) Pyra

"Ok," I say out loud so I can think straight. "Fos, means Light, Hudor, means Water, and... Ekkilesia, means Church I believe, sooo... Pyra means-" I was cut off when the paper set to flames.

"Ahh!" I blurt out jumping up, and since I was on my bed, I fall off on the soft carpet, that's when I found my hand on fire, the one with the ring on.

The engravings of fire on the ring started moving like real flames, I tried to hit and pat the flames out but stopped when I noticed it didn't hurt me.

"No way," I gasp.

I then take a blank sheet of paper from my bed. "Fire," I say- but nothing happens- and then I remembered that when I said, Pyra, the sheet caught fire.

"Pyra," I say, immediately the paper blew up in flames, but the fire didn't hurt me when I touched it, just like before, which was good.

Then the smoke alarm went off.
