in the Hospital

As I stare at Layne Carter on the hospital bed, I remember him in a ball of flames falling from the sky as he screamed like a girl and hits the school lawn, flips a couple times then hits a wall.
I smile to myself staring at his cute face; ok, ok, he didn't really scream like a girl, I think it was me when I saw it happen.
Layne's eyes are closed and he breathes softly as his chest moves up and down, he's been asleep at least for three and a half hours, I wonder where his parents are?
After Layne woke up the fist time, the doctor came in and checked his fluids, and told me he was going to be fine, and how he was very lucky to have me by his side. I never blushed so much in my life!
But the thing that really scares me is how are we going to keep our powers a secret and for how long?
I'm still surprised no reporters have tried to come and swarm Layne for questions. I look down at my glassed gloved hands, sometimes I forget there even there, I tried so many things to try to pry them off, but I guess some things stick to you forever in life.
So, back to falling fire boy.
When I ran over to him to see if he was still alive, another boy ran over as well.
It was Kaleb--the boy I saw at the principles office, the one I crashed into after school.
When he got closer to the body, he said to me, "What ever you just saw can't be repeated, just like how you keep your gloves secret."
I freeze. How did he know about my gloves? I thought only I could see them?
"How do you know I had invisible gloves?" I ask
"Because me and Layne have rings with powers, which makes us both see your invisible gloves, Gamma, I think they are called, the gloves of glass."
"Where's Layne?"
Kaleb lightly chuckled, "The one in front of you, the one who fell from the sky and screamed like a girl, or was that you I heard?"
As I look down at... Layne, I'm surprised his clothes, except for his leather jacket, didn't burn off. But good thing I was spared for such details.
When we found Layne both sides of his rib cage was black and purple--nice abs by the way--I called the ambulance after Kaleb dials the number for me, then I see Kaleb take a ring with engraved flames from Layne's hand and put it in his pocket.
Then when me and Kaleb were sitting in the hospital waiting for Layne to wake up, we both told our story's of how we found our--Power Sources, we decided to call them--then when he was done with his story, he said his ring was, Astrapes, the ring of lightning, then he said Layne's was, Pyra, the ring of fire.
Then when my thoughts disappeared about the past, I seen Layne's body stir.
"Fl-Fla-" he opened his eyes with his fist in the air, "FLAME ON!" his eyes then closed once again, and his fist went back to his side.
I look at Kaleb with a confused look.
"Flame on?" I ask in a light whisper.
The Kaleb answers with a halfhearted chuckle, "That's how the Human Torch in Fantastic Four summons his powers."
"Ohhhh... right." what's Fantastic Four?
Then the door to the room fly's open, and two worried adults with a red headed boy runs in.
"God!" the man says, and then holds the boy back.
"Layne! Layne my baby!" the woman yells running up to the bed.
When she touches Layne's arm, she looks at Kaleb, then at me.
"Who did this?" then she turns back to Kaleb. "Kaleb, or so help me... tell me who did this?!"
Kaleb's mouth opens and shuts like he trying to say something but no words come out.
It was my turn to speak up.
"Its ok Mrs. Carter, Layne just ran, and slipped on the school grass, then he flipped a couple times and hit the school brick wall," at least it was a half truth, I told myself.
Mrs. Carter covers her mouth with her hand, and then the redheaded boy blurts out,
"Mommy, Daddy, I told yeah, I told yeah, he can fly, I saw, I saw!"
"John," said the man gripping at his sons shoulders. "We know what you told us, but now is not the time for playing games, tricks, or any time for imaginations."
The boy looks down, and a tear falls from his cheek. Poor kid.
Me and Kaleb look at each other with worried looks.
Kaleb mouthed, "Did Layne tell him?"
I shrugged my shoulders and looked back at the two adults.
"How long has he been out?" the man asks as he pulls himself and the redheaded boy a chair. "And I'm Brian by the way, Brian Carter, Layne's dad, this is my other son, John, and that's my wife, Jerri Carter."
"Oh," I squeaked, and then quickly cleared my throat. "I'm Jane, Jane Callaway, and he's been out for a couple hours, but he has woken up a few times."
"That's odd," Mrs. Carter says. "We just got the call he had just gotten here."
Me and Kaleb look at each other once again dumbfounded, then back at Mrs. Carter.
"That is strange, Kaleb tried calling you guys but you didn't answer."
"Well, whoever it was, sounded... weird, they had a really deep voice, and then they said we would find Layne here with two others, one of them had helped hurt Layne."
She looked at me hard, "So, Jane Callaway, I know Kaleb very well, but you... are new, so why did you do it?"
