Chapter 2

06-17-2016, 8:23 pm

Hi. Yes, it's me again. Somehow the others managed to convince me that since technically yesterday wasn't part of our mission, it's still my turn to write in the journal. I'm such a pushover.

So we arrived in Denver at about 3 pm yesterday and then got right into a car and drove up to the mountains. I'm so sick of travel. Luckily, we finally arrived in some obscure destination that was not disclosed to us. It was kind of underwhelming, tbh. They just handed us a bunch of gear and dropped us off in the woods with a map to the science research lab. We were officially on our own at 12:06 pm.

As soon as the car disappeared from sight, Grace turned around and hugged all of us. It was uncomfortable from the start, but it sure didn't get any better when Alex whispered, "The last time I hugged someone it was to kill them." That brought a swift end to the squadron hug.

After that we started walking into woods. This hike is the only possible way to reach the lab, since the station is so secret and stuff. I asked one of the officials why they couldn't just fly us in, and he explained that there was no landing area.

Once we felt sufficiently surrounded by trees and foliage, we opened the little case containing our map and oriented ourselves. Hopefully we did it right. If we get ourselves lost, we'll only have about a week's worth of supplies and then we're all dead meat.

We had already eaten breakfast and lunch while on the road, but we still had to prepare dinner ourselves. We were given a variety of different lunches, but Grace insisted we all eat the same type each day so that we can "discuss quality". Maybe she watched too many cooking shows? We decided to start with a ham and cheese sandwich. It was okay I guess. Alex found a dead moth in hers but she ate in anyway (including the moth).

By the time Emma and Grace had set up the tents and bedrolls that will be our camp, it was pitch dark. I don't like the dark. Especially in forests with no means of escape.

Emma and I are sharing a tent tonight. I hope Alex doesn't terrify Grace too much. When I climbed into bed, Emma shivered and said, "This reminds me of Blair Witch Project." Alex happened to overhear from outside and she got really excited. It was weird enough that she was happy to be living a horror movie, but she managed to get even creepier by going on to start guessing who would die first. She guessed Grace...poor Grace.

Well, we're all going to sleep now. If we can. I'll end the entry here.

-Sam
