17.
The ride back to Starkiller's home is silent, I sit staring at the stretched stars in hyperspace. My vision replays over and over again in my mind, the words of my father ring in my mind. You know where your power lies. The dark side of the force is what he speaks of, I can feel it deep within me. My struggle to remain true to the light side of the force now becomes clear to me. I was always meant to master the dark side, to exceed it.
"We're here." Starkiller says. He lands the ship and stands up, walking toward the door. I quickly follow him outside and back to the opening I first met him on. "Where did you see Darth Traya?"
"On Malachor, within the old Sith temple." I tell him. "I had no longer considered myself a Sith, that's why this vision of her calling me the Dark Lord is so confusing to me." Starkiller nods.
"You and I are one in the same. Grey Jedi, people once called them. We use the power of the Sith and the dark side of the force, but not for evil. In turn, it makes us more powerful than anyone on the battlefield." He begins to walk towards his home. "We are morally grey, with no affliction to either force wielding group."
"I see." We reach the front of his house.
"Now come on, you need to eat."
...
I hand Starkiller my empty bowl, he takes it and begins to wash both of them.
"How long have you been here?" He doesn't look back at me.
"40 years." My eyes widen.
"Alone?" He nods without a word. There's a long time of silence as he finishes washing the dishes.
"You should get some sleep, you've had a long day." I nod.
"You should too, we've both had our struggles today." He studies me then finally agrees, standing with me and walking toward the bed. Instead of climbing into his own bed, like I suspected he would, he crawls back into the makeshift one on the floor. A feeling of surprise passes through me as I lay in his bed.
...
"Where are we going?" I ask as the sun rises over the horizon.
"To the cliffs. It's isolated there, it will be a place to focus your mind." He tells me. We walk outside to his speeder, he climbs on and motions to the spot behind him. "Come on." We ride to the cliffs, the wind whipping past my ears. When we arrive, he climbs off and hands me two new sleek, silver matching saber hilts. I ignite them both, they glow red against my skin. "I redesigned your sabers to harness your abilities and grant you more power." We walk towards the edge, I glance over to see waves slamming against the wall far below.
"What will we start with?" He ignites his own sabers.
"A duel." His grip is reversed, opposite of what is taught within the Jedi temple. He walks toward me and swings, I deflect it easily. His strikes become faster, more calculated. "Harness the power you showed me when you first arrived." I clench my jaw and prevent him from striking me. Power builds within me, I feel it seething in my hands. "You feel it now. Direct it to your sabers, use it." I focus on the dark energy within me and watch as lightning begins to spark in my palms. It carries through the hilts and onto the red blades, bolts bouncing within them.
I begin to push Starkiller back, he struggles to keep up with my movements. My eye regains its glowing yellow color, I can feel it as I swing at him. A small smirk just barely breaks through Starkiller's face. I suddenly spin my sabers into a reversed grip and shove them forward. A massive blow of energy erupts from them, sending Starkiller flying backwards and tumbling over the edge of the cliff. My eyes widen and I force run to the edge, reaching my hand over and catching him just before he hits the rocks. When he reaches the surface again he suddenly tackles me, standing above me with his saber at my neck.
"You almost killed me." He says, I feel the color in my eye fade back to normal. His face unchanging, he holsters his saber and offers a hand to me. "Your power is growing, good work."
...
We sit within Starkiller's home once again, eating a meal before we lie down to sleep. I slowly look up at him, he's already staring at me.
"What's your real name?" I ask him, he raises an eyebrow at me. "I've always heard the tale of Vader's secret apprentice, of the powerful Starkiller, but I have never heard who you truly are." He studies me for a moment without speaking a word.
"Galen. Galen Marek."
