•starry night
Jin unlocked the door and slowly got in, Namjoon following him right behind. The house was tiny, humble and enough for two people to warmly live together. He took off the raincoat Namjoon gave to him and hung it to the coat hanger. Namjoon walked to the middle of the room and spun around, looking at the whole house.
"Never in million years would I guess I would be standing here," he said as he stopped and turned to Jin who was watching the mesmerized angel with crossed arms. Jin made his way towards the couch and pat down beside him to signal Namjoon. After looking around a couple of seconds more, Namjoon sat down beside the man and waited quietly for Jin to speak.
"So all the stuff you told me, about angels and guarding and stuff...they are all real?" Jin asked, wishing and praying that it's all true and that he's not going crazy. "Yep, all true. I kinda miss my wings but oh well, walking works too." Namjoon said smiling like it's not a big deal.
Jin roughed up his hair and let out a big sigh. "Tell me again why you're here?"
"Well, you went through a lot and I couldn't fulfill my job as your guardian so I asked the Almighty to send me down here so that I can help physically. They trusted me and sent me down. But only for a limited time as I have other stuff in heaven you know, paperwork and all."
"Almighty....who is it? Is it God? Zeus? Who?"
"I'm sorry Jin mortals don't have the right to know it. Heavens even I don't fully know what they are but all I know is, they are powerful...OH! Almost forgot!" Namjoon bolted from the couch towards his raincoat and started checking its pockets. "My guardian angel is just like me huh?"
"We do act like the person we protect sometimes. Imagine watching someone until they die. It also changes you." Namjoon came back with a small box. the black matte box was tied up with a red ribbon. It looked fancy and elegant. "This is the reason I came down Jin. Go on, open it!" he said as he took Jin's hand and placed the box on his palm. Jin carefully took the ribbon and opened the box.
"A...cookie?"
"Not just any cookie Jinnie. Is that okay? Can I call you Jinnie?" "Yeah..sure," Jin said still curiously looking at the cookie.
"It's not just any cookie Jinnie. Its what we call the cheater. Because it cheats the whole purpose of love! Clever, right?" "Cheats? How come? It's just a plain vanilla cookie..."
"Love shouldn't be forced. Yes, you should try to find it but in the end, destiny will find its way. But this cookie breaks all the rules about destiny and love. Almighty, I always wanted to show you this! Listen carefully. With one tiny bite you take, a man or a woman whatever your preference is will come to you. Just take a tiny bite, think about what kind of person you want to be with or someone specific and they will come to you! Isn't that just magical?"
"Sounds too good to be true...Wait you wanted to show me this?" Jin looked up to face Namjoon who was now looking dead serious.
"I watched what you went through Jin. Every second of it. It wasn't only torture for you but me as well. I want the best for you and I'm not only saying this because I'm your protector. Trust me I've guarded some sickening people. But you deserve it. You deserve the happiness this cookie might bring to you. You deserve the love that...that...the person you will encounter by eating this cookie will give to you." He put Jin's hand that was holding the box on his. "You deserve the affection Jin."
Jin heard these words before. From his friends, his therapist, his family. But they never touched him this deeply. They never affected him this much. Maybe the reason he was so affected by Namjoons words were not the tone he was saying but was that he saw it all. No one saw what Jin went through. They only knew the stuff he told them about. There are so much more that he simply couldn't tell. It was just the tip of the iceberg. But Namjoon was different. He knew it all.
Maybe that was the reason suddenly Jin's cheeks were wet. Maybe that was the reason he hugged the man he only knew for an hour with all the affection he has left in him.
Maybe because when he had no hope, Namjoon appeared.
As Namjoon gently hugged the boy and caressed his hair whispering sweet nothings, Jin watched the night sky from his open window. "It's a beautiful night," he thought to himself.
Maybe the reason this night looked so beautiful for the first time in years was not because of the stars or lights, but because of Namjoon.
Jin wanted someone. Someone to love him for who he was. Someone to love him with all his imperfections and all the scars he carries. Namjoon on the other hand just wanted to give the boy everything he deserved.
He slowly broke the warm hug and looked at Jin with a bright smile that hid his pain. The smile even fooled Namjoon himself.
"Let's find you the person you deserve Jin. Together."
