Part 11: Rise of the Scarlett Queen

Fifi looks up at Ronnie the strong man from the passenger seat of a golf cart, "this thing won't be fast enough."

"A friend clown taught me trick," Ronnie reaches under the steering wheel and pulls a cord connecting to the gas pedal. The tiny vehicle jumps into a higher gear and Ronnie accidentally jerks back with all the muscle of a circus strong man.

The pedal cord comes away in his hand.

The tiny golf cart kicks into an even higher gear without a chance of stopping and gas leaking into the floorboards, "shit!!"

"Shit!!"

"No swear!"

"AHHHHHHHHH!!!"

Jimmy punted the midget clean into the tall man, reloaded and pumped a round into each of their skulls. That's all there was to it. A fight so clean that he almost forgot he was covered in shit.

He slammed the door shut in the bearded lady's face causing her neck to crack as she ran head first into the wood. She collapsed into a heap on the other side of the door.

Jimmy took in the new scene with a pounding heart sharpening his vision. Some people were running, some fighting; all were eaten alive in the end. Luckily, the crowds of zombies had gravitated towards more populated areas of the circus. It didn't seem many had thought to visit the haunted attraction in their last moments.

A family ran screaming past him from some far off threat. A playful car horn sounded from that direction as the clown car sped around the corner. Back to finish off Jimmy.

Edwardo was sitting outside in a state of calm panic, tapping his forehead nervously with the handle of his bull whip.

His back was slouched against the mall. A jaguar named Pogo guarded one side of him and his trailer blocked the other. Not even two feet in front of him was a cage. A cage normally reserved for big cats, but today it held the figure of a woman.

It was a slim space of refuge just barely ignored by the chaos around.

He would alternate between scanning the circus through the cage and watching Scarlett lurch about on all fours like an animal. She stood slowly and shifted around the space both fluid and irate, like a feral belly dancer who occasionally gave into fits of thrashing and clawing at the cage. Blood coated the cartoon skull on her shirt, and every square inch of her face.

They locked eyes. Hers bloodstained and rust brown, his a deep earthy color.

The mighty trumpet of an elephant in the distance broke their moment and a thunderous charge could be felt in the earth from across the circus grounds. The Ferris wheel leaned over with an accompanying screech of metal. Lights exploded in a display as fantastic as a firework finale.

Sparks shoot from the control panel as the wheel tips into a roll. People scream as the joy ride crushes many of those sitting helpless in buckets. Others leap to their freedom of broken legs and hungry mouths. A zombified elephant with tribal bands wrapped around its yellowed tusks flips the contraption into a faster spin towards the mall as if it were a play-toy.

The crash sent a wave of dust over everything within a mile. When the dust settled a Ferris wheel hung out of the side of the mall like an earring.

This all muffled the much closer sound of a golf cart getting t-boned by a clown car, but it wasn't muffled enough to hide the occupants from the living dead.

Jimmy had run up and pressed his back against an empty tiger cage. He reloaded his sawn off double barrel, but far more than two zombies crowded around.

Fifi remains in the golf cart struggling to un-jam a broken bolt lodged in her crossbow.

Only Ronnie is unphased by the predicament.

He leaps over the clown car with his mallet overhead. It comes down on the clown and the window it hung out of with enough force to splatter the clowns painted face all over the side of the broken window. The hefty mallet dances in his hands, but soon even he is surrounded.

Scarlett slammed against the cage in Edwardo's face, bringing him back to his own body. The head of a tomahawk wrapped around his neck and pulled him into the cage. Her teeth grazed his ear and she moaned in an undead voice, "leeet... meee... OUT."

A barrage of throwing knives pelted the hoard of zombies causing three to drop on the spot.

Jimmy was trapped against the cage by two. His shotgun blasts tore large holes in their chests, but they didn't stop until Scarlett dug a tomahawk into each and yanked them both to the ground with one violent spin.

Blood splattered across the cages.

Ronnie cleanly battered a zombie back to death with each movement he made, but his mallet is heavy. He was sweating bullets and slowing down with each swing. Scarlett's tomahawks flew through the air at the same time. One of them lobbed an arm off at the shoulder. The other axe stuck deep into its head by the handle.

Ronnie was grappling with a larger zombie and screaming in it's face. Its maw opened up as it leaned towards his chest. A much more bloodthirsty creature appeared behind it.

Jessica Scarlett shoved her hand into the back of its neck and out through the front. Gore splattered Ronnie's sleeveless onesie. Her hand came out with a piece of spine a foot long.

The rest of the horde descended on Scarlett from behind; tearing into her back with their teeth and pulling her to ground. Ronnie tried to help, but it was too late. They dog-piled onto his savior in a spray of blood. Scarlett let out her death cry one last time, but the violence in her soul hadn't had enough.

As the undead tore into her, she tore into them. Ripping out throats with her teeth, crushing skulls and jaws with her grip, clawing at tendons with human precision and inhuman strength.

Everyone watched on in horror as the pile of corpses steadily stopped writhing.

Scarlett twisted the last zombies head around like an owls and separated the neck slowly. Strings of skin and muscle held the neck together until they could go no further and snapped all at once.

Even Pogo the jaguar gave a squeamish expression at the unadulterated bloodshed.

Jessica Scarlett stood among the pile of gore a bloodied mess, grinning and panting in barbaric ecstasy.
