MAGGIE's POV
"Don't get too close to me. I hate you!" I spat at Marco when he scooted over and then put his arm over my shoulders. I tried to shove him away but he didn't give me the chance to do so and just chuckled. I glared at him.
We're currently in his car going to only God knows where. All I know is we're in Australia. We've been driving for an hour already.
I looked at Falcon. He was the one driving but he'd been quiet the whole time as if we weren't there in the car with him. He was the bartender that I saw on the plane. Marco introduced him as hone of his bodyguards.
"Don't be like that. It's not my fault that I won the game." He answered nonchalantly even though I was glaring at him the whole time. Until now, I couldn't believe that he actually beat me in our game of chess.
I've never lost to anyone before, except to my father but now, Marco defeated me. I thought I already got him but he tricked me. While we were in the middle of playing, his amber eyes were fixed on me which made me lose my concentration and eventually got defeated by him.
I blinked innumerably when I felt him kiss my forehead which made my cheeks feel hot. He looked different. The heavy and dangerous aura around him were gone now. Ever since we were on the plane, he became calmer. He even smiles a lot now. I could tell that he's happy which was new.
He looked like a kid who got what he wanted for Christmas. I thought he wasn't capable of these kinds of expressions before but I was wrong. No, Maggie! You have to get way from him! You have Keith!
"Marco, your arm." I rebuked once again because our bodies were too close that I could even smell his manly scent but instead of removing his arm from my shoulders, he made me lean the side of my head on his shoulder.
"Marco!"
"Shhh. Stay still." He said, ignoring my protests and then kissed the top of my head. I crossed my arms across my chest. His frame felt so big and strong compared to mine. He smelled so good and manly and I must admit, I liked his smell.
"I've never knew that you're capable of this kind of affection, Unu." Falcon spoke for the first time. He looked serious.
My forehead furrowed. "Unu?" I asked confusedly to him before looking at Marco.
"Falcon." Marco's voice became different and the expression on his face almost made me shiver coldly. The way he was staring at Falcon was so dangerous. I've seen him with this kind of expression before and that was when he chided at the employees who were talking about me behind my back.
Just like that first time, the feeling was the same. I felt like he suddenly transformed into another version of himself; a more dangerous Marco.
"Pardon me, Unu, but I just can't call you by your name just like that." Falcon explained right away; a little bit reluctant.
Marco was about to answer but I spoke. "What's happening here? I never knew that you have a nickname. It sounds weird." I tried to sound casual even though the air around us was evidently became thicker.
His face softened when he heard my voice. He looked at me as if he just realized that I was there with them. Gone that dangerous look on his face just now.
"Yes. It's just a crazy nickname. You don't have to remember it." He said with finality and I just nodded my head.
I looked outside. We were driving along an uncemented brown road and the dust was crazy. Thankfully, the car windows were closed.
"Where are we? We're now in the middle of the forest." I said while looking around. There were tall trees everywhere and we didn't even see a single soul since an hour ago. Not even a house was built along the winding road.
"We're almost there. Are you tired already?" Marco's voice was sweet while staring at me full of gentleness. I've never knew that he could make that kind of expression let alone be gentle to anyone. He was always been the rugged and rough type of a guy.
I was about to answer when we finally reached a big iron gate. 'Villa Carmela' was written on the arc just above it. Falcon pressed a button on a small remove control and then the gate automatically opened by itself.
He drove past the gate and I couldn't help but to get mesmerized upon entering the vicinity. I realized that we were in a big farm. Plantations of wheat, rice, sugar canes, grapes and many more could be seen from the road but what caught my attention most was the sunflower plantation. The view took my breath away.
"Wow." Yes, it was indeed beautiful. I rolled down the window to satisfy my eyes with the scenic view. The air smelled so fresh and clean. There were many farmers looking at our direction full of curiosity.
"Do you like the view, my queen?" My body went still when Marco's arms wrapped around my waist as he buried his face on the crook of my neck. Just like always, my body's temperature increased considerably just by feeling his body against mine.
"Marco! What do you think you're doing?! This is becoming your habit already! Let go of me!" I rebuked sternly but instead of letting me go, he planted a kiss on my neck affectionately. I felt like fire engulf my entire being because of what he did.
I heard someone snickering and when I looked at Falcon, he was watching us through the rearview mirror with a playful grin. I could tell that my cheeks were already as red as tomatoes because of embarrassment. I did my best to gather all the strength I had in me and then pinched Marco on his side.
"I said, let go of me!" I noticed that he was ticklish there and that was the only place that I could target him and I was right. His arms loosened around my waist when I did that. I wanted to laugh because of the reaction on his face of what I did but I bit the insides of my cheeks to prevent myself from doing so. He looked pissed off.
Falcon snickered again but when Marco threw him a glare, he stopped right away and concentrated on driving. He even cleared his throat and became serious.
"You're gonna pay for that, my queen. Mark my word." I rolled my eyes and decided to just ignore him. No one spoke for a minute or so.
"Look at the view on your left, Ms. Lenard." Falcon said out of the blue. I did as I was told and my lips parted in awe when I saw a waterfall, cascading down beautifully from the top of the mountain. It was so breathtakingly beautiful. I couldn't believe that a place like this existed. A paradise.
Then I noticed the house on top of the hill and that was were we're heading if I wasn't mistaken.
"This is such a beautiful place." I muttered to myself.
"Yes, it is. You will enjoy your stay here for sure." Falcon answered. I smiled at him. He looked like a nice guy even though I could sense something weird in his aura as if he was hiding something. He had the same vibe as Marco but Marco's was much worst, more dangerous.
"I want to go see the waterfalls up close. Would you come with me?" I asked Falcon without thinking.
"I would gladly tour you around but I still want to live." He then chuckled. My forehead crinkled. I was about to ask what he meant by that when Marco spoke.
"He's going to leave tonight so I'll tour you around instead." I could sense the possessiveness in his voice and that made me roll my eyes.
"Whatever." I mumbled. Soon after that, the car finally pulled up in front of the villa on top of the hill.
We got out of the car. I was about to approach Falcon when Marco's arm went over my shoulders and then pulled me closer to him. "Welcome to my paradise, my queen." Marco whispered to me.
"Marco-"
"-Let's go." He said, ignoring my protest and led me towards the main door. Falcon was about to open it when three women and a middle-aged man came out.
"Welcome home, sir Marco." They chanted together before greeting Falcon and I. We greeted them back.
"These are Matilda, Olivia, Emily and Oscar. They are the household helpers here. Matilda and Oscar are married." Marco introduced them to me. The four were staring at me in surprise. "Everyone, this is my girlfriend, Maggie Lenard." My eyes widened upon hearing what he just said.
"What the-" I wanted to correct his lie but he interrupted me.
"-Isn't she beautiful?" He asked the household helpers proudly and then pulled me even closer to his body. He even planted a kiss on my cheek. This jerk! He kisses me as if he has every right to do so!
"Yes, sir Marco. She's indeed beautiful. You look good together." Matilda answered with a smile. I gasped. They obviously believed Marco's lie.
"Of course, we are." After that, Matilda and the others brought our luggage upstairs. Falcon went somewhere and that left me and Marco alone at the living room.
Because of anger, I lifted my leg and was about to stomp on his foot but it looked like he was already expecting me to do that and evaded my attack quickly.
"You have to do better than that to land your foot on me, my queen." His voice was playful and it made me even angrier. He was smirking at me smugly and I wanted nothing but to rob that smirk off his face.
"You're happy with what you're doing, huh?"
"Of course, I'm happy because I managed to bring you here." He answered proudly and then shrugged his shoulders full of confidence.
"Ahh...really?"
"Ye-" He was about to answer when I elbowed him on his side which made him groan in pain. He even removed his arm from my shoulders and then rubbed his aching side.
"Now, are you happy?" I asked again with a sarcastic voice, very proud of myself because I managed to hurt him even if it was just a little bit.
"How could I forget that my queen is such a wild cat?" He said while chuckling, rubbing his side with his hand. I gritted my teeth in anger. I stared daggers at him.
"How could you say that lie to them without even blinking an eye? I am not your girlfriend and you know that!" I snapped at him, couldn't hide my anger anymore.
"You elbowed me because of what I've said?" He shook his head with a lopsided grin. Where did the serious Marco go? Since we were on the plane, he occasionally smiled and I felt like I was with a different person.
"Whatever!" I hissed and then followed the household helpers upstairs. Even though I was pissed off, I couldn't help but to appreciate the villa. It was a modern one and I felt like I was in Boucquillon House in Tuscany.
When I reached upstairs, Olivia and Emily came out of a room and ran into me. "Ms. Maggie, your room is here." Emily said with a smile. I thanked them and was about to enter the room when the room in front of my designated room opened and Matilda and Oscar came out.
"Whose room is that?" I asked them curiously, pointing at the door behind them.
"It's sir Marco's room, Ms. Maggie. Normally, his room is on the third floor but he instructed us to prepare this room for him because would occupy this during your stay here."
"Ah, okay." Was all I could say. They then went downstairs and left me there. I took a deep breath and then entered my assigned room. I looked around and then headed to the terrace just to gasp in awe when I saw the view.
"Oh, my gosh!" I momentarily forgot my anger and annoyance at Marco. I held onto the railings and stared at the breath-taking scenery. The house was built on top of the ravine but that wasn't the most surprising part.
The falls that I saw earlier was actually cascading from the mountain that was just located next to the ravine. It was an amazing view and it was my first time seeing a house standing on top of the ravine and next to a mountain with a waterfall.
I looked below, between the ravine and the mountain and realized that the water from the waterfall was going straight there. It was a river.
"This is amazing." Even though I was forced to come with Marco instead of going to France for vacation, I couldn't help but to admire this place. Because of all the beautiful scenery, I momentarily forgot about my situation.
MARCO's POV
I raked my fingers through my hair in frustration as I watched Maggie ascending the grand staircase, walking out on me. I knew I was being selfish and jerk for forcing her to spend her vacation with me but it was better than to let her go to France, unprotected from any possible harm.
I knew that Apollyon was already tracing our location but I made sure to erase any of my traces so that he couldn't find us.
I was about to follow Maggie upstairs when Falcon came in.
"Unu, I have good news. According to one of our spies, Apollyon went to France because he thought that Maggie went there."
I smirked. "Good. He's pissed off right now for sure because he didn't succeed on killing me that's why he followed her there. Little did he know that Maggie didn't go there." I laughed triumphantly. "The men he sent to eliminate me were nothing but insects. Did he actually think his men could actually put a dent on me?"
"We shouldn't be at ease, Unu. You know him. The moment he realizes that Maggie isn't actually in France, he will surely send his men to look for her in every corner of the world."
"I know that that's why I already instructed you what to do next to prevent him from getting near my queen. Now that I already have her by my side, I won't let anyone steal her away from me again."
Falcon nodded. "Our men are already scattered around. You don't have anything to worry about. We'll mislead Apollyon as long as we can."
"Good. You're dismissed for now." He nodded his head and then left. I on the other hand followed Maggie upstairs. I was about to knock on her door when I noticed that it was slightly ajar.
I pushed it open and the entered. When I didn't see her right away, I went to the terrace and saw her there, admiring the view.
I remained on my spot, while staring at her sexy back. She's so enchanting, I couldn't take my eyes off her. Then, memories of the past flowed in my head...
Marcus and I were in the middle of our training when Mantus came in. Just like usual, he was wearing an emotionless face. He motioned for Charles, our martial arts coach, to go out of the dojo to give us a moment.
"Unu, Dui, I will be gone for a week but even so, I want you to continue your training here and no slacking off. Understood?" He said.
"Yes, Mantus." We answered in unison. Mantus was the one who took us in when we escaped the orphanage. It has been six years since then. I didn't actually think that the man who was kind to me once was the one who would take us in.
"Good." He paused for a couple of seconds. "Anyway, I have to tell you something. Now that you both are finally eighteen years old; you have to know the truth."
My brother and I looked at each other confusedly. "What is it about, Mantus?"
He didn't answer for a couple of seconds but when he spoke, what he said shocked us. "Your parents are alive."
My jaw slacked open; no words came out of my mouth. So was Marcus.
"How come? We're orphans." Dui asked after that.
"Listen to me carefully and I'll explain to you everything." Mantus answered and then proceeded on narrating us what happened in the past. When he finished telling us what really happened, there was only one thing on my mind and that was to see our parents.
"How come you know about all these?" I asked confusedly.
"Because your parents are my close friends." Dui and I were stunned.
"So, you already knew us from the beginning that's why you took us in?" Dui questioned but it was more of a statement.
"Yes." No one spoke for a minute or so but I already made up my mind.
"I want to see them." I said determinedly.
"This is not the right time yet."
Dui shook his head. "No, Mantus. I want to see them too. Now."
"You can't stop us. You hid the truth from us all these years so don't expect us to stay here and do nothing knowing that our parents are still alive." I said through gritted teeth, couldn't help but to be furious.
"Fine. If you insist, I won't stop you. I only have one condition. Don't let them see you yet. This is not the right time for that."
"But-"
"-No buts, Unu. That's an order." Mantus said firmly as his eyes turned into slits.
Dui and I just nodded our heads. The next day after that, we flew to Sicily. We found our parents' place right away because Mantus gave us the address.
"This is such a big house, frati." Dui said in awe while looking at the mansion. The gates were high and there were even security guards roaming around.
We were about to approach the gate when a guy around our age went out of the gate. We were hiding behind the bushes not far from him. He looked like he was waiting for someone.
Then a black limousine arrived and a man in his forties got out of the car. Dui and I were surprised. It was our father. Mantus showed us his picture before we came to Sicily.
"That's our father, Unu. I want to talk to him!" Dui was about to go when we heard the guy spoke.
"Welcome home, papà." He greeted our father and that took us by surprise.
"Why are you here at the gate? You should've waited for me inside." Our father said. I couldn't explain my feelings seeing them conversing like that. Is that our brother? I asked myself but I couldn't feel anything of seeing him for the first time.
"Because I'm excited to show you this." He showed a picture to our father. "I already found her." He said excitedly but our father looked displeased.
"Let's talk about this inside." He said and then walked past the gates. The guy remained standing there for a couple of seconds, staring at the picture he was holding. To my surprise, he let go of the picture and then followed our father inside.
The driver drove the car past the gate.
"What do you think? Is that his son too?" Dui asked.
"I don't know." I stood up and walked towards the gate.
"Where are you going?" Dui asked but I ignored him.
"Who are you?" The two security guards that were standing at the gate asked me but I ignored them and picked up the picture that the guy threw away just now just to be surprised when I saw whose picture it was. My heart skipped a beat upon seeing her lovely face.
I came back to reality when I heard the sweet voice of Maggie. "This is amazing." Her soft voice was music to my ears. I couldn't believe that it has been six years since I first saw her on that picture. That moment on, this game started and I would do everything in my power to win her over not just for the things that I could achieve but for myself. I want her for myself.
I sauntered towards her and then embrace her from behind. "You're more beautiful and amazing than this beautiful scenery, my queen." I whispered and then buried my face on the crook of her neck. Damn. She smells so f*cking good.
