Luna
I woke up in the morning to the sound of the shower. I was trying to work out how someone other than me could be in my bathroom when the sounds stopped and a pregnant Mia, stepped outside in my purple towel.
I had forgotten the fact that she was staying with me for a few days. Until, her father comes and gets her.
"I didn't mean to wake you," she said, clutching the towel that was small on her. "I was feeling restless. Water calmed me down."
I stared at her. I observed the fading marks on her skin which were Chase's doing, and cursed him internally. "It's fine. My aunt's going shopping today. I'll tell her to add maternity towels for you."
"No. It's fine. I won't be here long."
"Mia," I said, firmly. "Don't push."
She changed into her maternity clothes and went down to the living room.
The last few days have been hard on her. Her pregnancy news was declared to her mother by Mr. Henry and he wasn't very considerate with the news. He clearly inferred that Mia whored herself around and got pregnant. Her mother didn't take the news positively and wants to ship Mia back to her father ASAP.
It took a lot of courage for Mia to not tell the truth to her mother. But she knows her future steps and telling the truth to anyone would just complicate things for herself and her mother.
After all, Chase Henry will be getting married soon, and his father-Cade Henry- wouldn't want his family name to be tainted by an outsider. Mia's words, not mine.
Long story short: Mia has moved in with me, and thank goodness, my aunt's back in town. She knows how sensitive the situation is with Mia and she welcomed her with open arms.
As for me, I choose to believe that I somehow separated Mia from Chase, and yet I still can't separate Chase entirely from her. Given her baby, I bet she'll never be fully over him. Not until... the day arrives.
I went downstairs after taking a shower. My aunt had prepared breakfast for three and I gulped taking in the delicious waffles in front of me.
"Good Morning." Aunt Lucille smiled brightly at me. "You didn't change into your uniform?"
Despite showering, I was still in last night's clothes. I didn't plan on going to school today for two reasons: I wasn't prepared for physics test and I didn't wanted to face Chase Henry today out of all the days.
"I don't feel like going today...."
Aunt Lucille frowned. "You must attend school, Luna. And I got a phone call from your ballet teacher saying that you're not attending the classes anymore and what about 'building home' project? Is that still on or you don't feel like doing anything."
"Geez!" I exclaimed at my non-stop nagging. "Slow down a little. If you want me to go I'll go."
"Good."
"Fine."
Mia cleared her throat, trying to get our attention. My aunt was the first to speak. "Mia, dear, is there something you want to say?"
"Yeah." She looked down at the counter, then back at us. "My father will be in town tomorrow to take me. I just want to say that I'm indebted to both of you for letting me stay in your home. You have no idea how much it meant to me."
My heart sank at her words. I was dreading the day when Silas Carter arrived here. It meant that Mia's plan will be initiated almost immediately which required a lot of my support.
Mia eyed me. She knew what I was thinking about and to be honest, she was a little scared herself. It wasn't an easy thing to be done. It will require sacrifice.
"You're just as Luna to me. I was happy to have you with me you're welcome here at anytime. Don't hold back, sweetie. You're family to me." Aunt Lucille went over to where Mia was sitting and hugged her tightly. "Please be in touch with us, especially Luna. She's going to miss you terribly."
Mia returned the hug and assured her that she would be in touch with all of us, but I knew better.
After eating breakfast and changing into my uniform (after another round of nagging from Aunt Lucille) I was finally leaving for school.
"Do you want me to drive you?" Mia asked me as I zipped my backpack.
"No way." I wouldn't let Mia anywhere near where Chase is likely to be found. "Aunt Lucille is driving me to school. It'll be convenient for both us."
"You don't have to worry about me," she whispered, dreamily. "I won't have any other mishap."
"But I still want you in one piece when I return back home." I took her face in my hand. "Dude, I'll always worry about you. I love you, sweetie."
She chuckled at my words. "Silly, now go and we have to prepare for that date of yours," she teased me. "What's his name?"
"Shush.." I tried silencing her, but aunt walked just in time.
"Did someone mentioned a 'date' here?" She asked both of us.
"Nope." "Yuh-uh."
We both said simultaneously and Aunt Lucille frowned at us. "What are you hiding from me, girls?"
"Luna has a date tonight with a senior from school. I've heard that he's magical, popular, charming and adores Luna to the bits."
"Is it true, Luna?" I blushed and tried to deny it, but my aunt knew me better. "Well, I would like to meet that boy." She sounded more excited than I was. "I can't believe my little girl is growing up and have boys already falling for her."
"Oh, my God! It's our first date not tenth and please try to be civil around him and don't act all...." I looked at both of their giddy faces. "Crazy."
The doorbell stopped them from talking whatever they intended to and I literally raced away from them to open the door.
I opened the door and immediately slammed it back. Oh God. Oh no. Oh God. Oh no.
"Who's it, Luna?"
Oh, God. I was not ready for this so early in the morning.
"Who was it, Luna?" She asked more sternly and Mia joined her.
"No one. Someone just rang the doorbell and vanished. Must be one of the neighborhood kids?" I shrugged, acting nonchalant, but I knew they could right through my act.
Mia rolled her eyes and nudged me aside to open the door.
Her eyes widened in surprise before she whispered, "Oh my." She turned to me with accusation in her eyes and a huge grin. "I think I might know you, but I don't remember from where?" she asked when I refused to explain why he was on our doorstep.
"Let's spare ourselves from introductions" His deep voice rushed over me causing goose bumps to cover my skin. "I'm here for Luna West."
"I bet you are." She didn't step aside from the door not until Aunt Lucille appeared.
"Oh, who are you?" Aunt Lucille smiled brightly at Ares and narrowed eyes at me with accusation as well.
"Ares Torrance." I loved how his velvety smooth voice spoke his own name. "I go to school with your niece."
"So you're her friend yet I am seeing you for the first time in my life." she bluntly stated. "Some friend you are."
"No ma'am, I'm not her friend," he answered truthfully. His eyes were etched on my face, watching my expression closely. "I'm her boyfriend."
All eyes turned to me and I suddenly wanted to disappear from earth. I was frozen in spot. This would be a really good time for an earthquake to happen.
"Luna has a boyfriend and I am not aware of it. Are you sure about that? Well, I wouldn't mind her to have a cute...enough boyfriend like you." I almost snorted. He was gorgeous and she knew it. My aunt was baiting him.
"I'm glad you approve," he smoothly replied.
"Not quite, so come in. Let's have a chat." She walked away, into the kitchen and leaving us standing in the foyer.
Mia examined Ares like an organism under a microscope and Ares met her gaze well enough.
"Why are you here?" I whispered, vehemently. I wanted to break away the cold tension in the air.
I was successful in grabbing his attention. He merely smirked at me before shouldering his way past me.
"Shouldn't I get your aunt's approval before I take you on your first date?" He disappeared in the kitchen, leaving me stumped.
I pulled at my hair before pushing the door shut. "You're dating that guy? He's just another rich asshole, you know?"
"What do you mean, Mia?"
"I just saying he's no better than Axel. I don't trust him. He has something really off about him."
"How can you be so sure about him? You don't even know him." I started to get annoyed by what Mia was inferring.
"Just be careful. I'm not going to be around anymore."
"Thanks. Don't fucking remind me." I walked away from Mia and went to the kitchen.
Aunt Lucille and Ares were deep in conversation when I entered the kitchen. Ares said something incoherent to me which made my aunt laugh loudly.
Five seconds with my Aunt and he's already making her laugh. Such a charmer.
"Oh, Luna, why did you hide this gem from me?"
"Yes, Luna, why did you?" He asked, prompting an answer out of me.
"I..." I didn't get a chance to speak and Mia entered the kitchen as well.
Mia began to speak. "Ms. Monroe, it's getting late. Luna will miss her first period if you don't lea-"
"That won't be necessary," Ares interjected. "As it is, I'm going to school as well, so if Lucille will agree, Luna can ride along with me."
"I don't see any harm in it. You and Luna can go together."
"That's kind of you."
"Very," Mia said, coldly. An odd sense of wave passed through them and I had a feeling that Mia might utter some unfiltered words from her mouth.
"Alright, I'll grab my bag, then we can go." I hurriedly put my backpack on and was almost out of the door before Ares caught up with my pace.
"Luna." Ares held me by my elbow. "Aren't you going to say goodbye to your aunt and that other person?."
"She's my bestfriend."
He rolled his eyes. "And bestfriend?" He corrected his mistake.
"Sure." I hugged both, Aunt Lucille and Mia goodbye.
"Well, I'll see you tonight, Ares. I'm happy to meet you before I had to return back to travelling for work. Do a thing, keep her company for me when I'm not around, won't you?" She winked at him and I rolled my eyes.
"I'll keep an eye on her," he agreed. My aunt smiled, completely oblivious to the sinister deception of his words. He made eye contact with me, holding my gaze until I looked away.
"Ooh, I have some work left to do for my next presentation. It was nice to meet you, Ares. Don't let me down." With that she disappeared inside the house, leaving me alone with Mia and Ares.
"I would advise you to treat her well cause even when I'm not there my eyes will always be on you," Mia threatened Ares and left, leaving us alone in the foyer.
"Let's go," he commanded and I followed him out of the door. I sent a quick text to Mia asking her what was her problem with Ares. She was always a sweetheart to people and wouldn't behave rudely, unless she had a reason.
"Why did you come here? You could have called to let me know you were coming." He ignored me until we were seated in his BMW i8 and then shrugged.
"I wanted to meet your aunt and let her get to know me. Is that not what a caring and responsible boyfriend does?" He kissed my cheek, giving it a little bite.
"That's going to leave a mark." I rubbed my skin, annoyed at him. "I know you're mad at me. What you should know is I never got the chance to tell her I had a boyfriend. I would've eventually told her."
"Like, before she left the city or after?"
"Before," I said, simply. "And don't come to my house unannounced. I don't like it."
His jaw clenched before he hauled me over the gearshift and into his lap, wrapping his hand around my ponytail. "Listen, blondie, I will come and go to your house whenever I feel like it and get used to my presence because you're my girlfriend."
He trailed kisses on the length of my neck. "No, you may not," I argued. "What if I prefer your house?"
"We'll see."

It wasn't easy trying my best to keep some distance between Ares and me when he was a part of most of my day--by force and by circumstance. I was still fuming over the stunt he pulled this morning in his car.
Most of the day was gone. Lunch and Algebra had come and gone and I'd just arrived to Chemistry class. I was setting up my station when Chase Henry walked in, dishevelled, followed by an equally dishevelled brunette.
What an asshole.
I felt a cold chill run down my spine when Chase and I made eye contact. I flipped him off when he continued to watch me with a smug expression.
He disappeared from my eyesight and to my surprise, Axel walked in the class. I didn't recall seeing him or Chase in the class ever. They must have changed their course.
"How's it going?" He asked, cheerfully.
Few months ago, I would have done anything to have him talk to me and now when he's actually doing it, it feels unnecessary. He felt a nuisance to me.
I didn't bother answering him. To my dismay, he sat right besides me.
I could hear some giggling and faint moaning coming from behind me. I turned my face to see Chase sucking some random girl's neck. He really had no shame. He had a child on the way yet he had no respect for the child and it's mother.
"I've heard you're dating my best friend. That must be interesting," Axel whispered, lowly so that only I can hear.
"How is that any of your business?"
"He's close to me, duh." I wish I could forget it.
The class progressed and carefully typed down notes and did my best to tune out Axel.
"You know," he whispered. "I'm kind of jealous of Ares." My eyebrow raised at his statement, but I didn't bother to look at his way. "He's always the perfect blend of arrogance and charisma. Girls just swoon over him. But no one notices the demon looming over him. It's just a matter of seconds when he'll pull you into his dimension of darkness. You wouldn't even notice how deep shit you've gotten yourself into, until it's too late."
"What are you inferring, Axel?" I stopped moving my brush. "He's bad for me?"
"Nope. He's too good for you. You're the one that's bad for him. I just know you'll both end up deeply, inexplicably, crazily, utterly fucked with dead end."
"Are those words coming out of one the most emotionally fucked person who's in love with his almost-family like bestfriend's sister."
His nostrils flared. "Shut up. You don't know any shit about me."
"I know more than enough."
"Mark my words: you'll never recover from the mess you created with your own hands. You're a dumb blonde and if you had any ounce of respect for yourself...." he stopped himself from speaking further when he noticed tears brimming my eyes.
"Fuck it." He shoved his Macbook in his bag and stormed outside the class with the teacher yelling his name.
What is his problem with me? I don't recall doing him any wrong in my life. To say, I had a massive crush on him makes me want to scream at myself.
As soon as the period ended, I went to the washroom to cry a little then curse Axel and make plans to torture him.
I finished cleaning up and tossed away the many tissues I used to cry.
I knew what I was getting myself into when I started taking an interest in Ares, and who wouldn't absolutely want to be with him? He's a complete sweetheart to me.
I know there are some dark edges to him and I'm not completely unaware of the fact of his sexual behaviour towards women. But, I can't help but care for him.
I love when he's bossy and makes me laugh. So, sue me for having feelings for boy that's so completely out of my league, but I in no way find him dangerous.
Why would Axel imply otherwise?
I finally left the washroom to find Ares leaning against the wall across from the bathroom door; one foot perched on the wall with his hands in his pockets. I stared at him and he stared back. When he crooked his finger, motioning for me to come to him, I gave into the temptation.
He stood up straight and fisted his hand in my shirt bringing flushed to his chest. "Why were you crying?"
"Doesn't matter."
"I don't want you to keep things from me, Luna."
"I won't keep anything from you."
"Then tell me why are you crying?" He was getting angry.
"Your friend was very rude to me."
His facial features became chill. "I'll deal with him. I don't want anyone to make my moon cry."
