Chapter 1

Chapter 1

“Emma! Wake up!” My father calls up stairs.

I groan and sit up in bed. I stretch my arms out wide and look around. I get out of bet and put my feet into my slippers and a house coat around my body. I walk downstairs to see my father looking through the pack newspaper.

“What’s the death count now?” I ask sitting beside him.

"Emma, it’s Faith.” My father says looking serious.

“Dad don’t joke around about this.” I say hoping he is joking.

“No, Emma, Faith left her house last night.” My dad says, giving me a sympathetic look.

“Wha- Dad.” I say through a few sobs.

“I know baby. I know.” My father says pulling me onto his lap.

“Please dad. Let me go for a run. I want out.” I cry.

“You know you can’t go out. Not alone. I have another pack meeting to go to with your brother. Please baby, stay inside.” My father says as he gets up.

“We will be back soon.” He says as he and my brother leave the house.

“Luka!” I call for my brother.

“Emma, you have to listen to dad okay. When I come back if it’s not late I’ll take you for a run.” My brother says making the same promise he does everyday since I turned sixteen and the killings started. One whole year!

“Can’t I just go see mum?” I ask.

“No, Emma, she’s not in any condition for you to see her.” Luka says.

I sigh and my brother gives me a hug.

“I’m sorry sis. We are just looking out for you ‘is all.” Luka says as he follows dad out the house and to the pack meeting.

“I know.” I sigh and walk up to my room. I clean it up and look out the window. I notice the alpha’s son doing a neighborhood check. For some reason seeing him is getting me excited. I shake it off as his head snaps towards mine and he says something under his breath. I move away from the window and get on some clothes. I put on some red short shorts, a white tank and a relaxed light cardigan.

I walk downstairs and make my self a lunch. Well, a brunch at 2pm. I boil some eggs and pop two slices of bread in the toaster. I patiently wait for the eggs to be hard boiled and cut them into thin slices. I place them on the two pieces of toast. I put it on a plate and walk into the living room to eat my brunch.

After brunch I watch some TV and at around 7pm I watch as the sun goes down. Figures they wouldn’t be back to take me for a run. I sigh as I hear giggling outside. Two she-wolfs are on both sides of the future alpha and rubbing their sides against him. I growl feeling jealousy come over me. Why though?

Is it ‘cause they are outside and I’m in here?

I have no clue but I can feel my wolf becoming pissed. I growl again before I run to the door and shift. My clothes tear into small pieces as I run past the most amazingly scented wolf I have ever smelt.

‘Mate!’ My wolf screams but, I don’t stop. I have wanted to go on a run since I have been cooped up in my house. I run until I can’t physically run anymore. I come to a halt at a small stream and take a drink of the fresh water.

I hear some rustling in the bushes and I look towards the sound. I listen closely as a huge dark wolf shadow comes towards me. I take one smell and I know, I know this wolf is my mate.

“Who are you?” The male voice asks.

“Emma, and you?” I ask.

“Emma,” He says making me shiver in delight, “I am Jason, the soon to be alpha.”

“Oh, hi.” I say feeling myself pull off a wolf-like grin.

“What are you doing out here my mate?” He asks.

“I needed to go for a run.” I say.

“It is not safe out here. Does your family not train you?” He asks.

“No!-” I clear my throat, “No, they do, but, I haven’t seen the outside in a long time.”

“Well, I think it’s best if I walk you home, your family will be worried your not around.” Jason says.

“Okay.” I nod as Jason walks closely beside me. His coat is beautiful, a mix of white gray and black. His ears are rimmed with black fur and his body is the typical wolf, white and gray. The tip of his tail looks as though it was dipped in black paint, as do his paws.

“Like what you see.” He winks.

“No, yes, but no. Ugh!” I groan feeling completely embarrassed.

“It’s okay baby girl, only teasing you.” He says as we walk down the village road. I nod when I see a black wolf running from a house. “Get back home.”

Jason takes off after the black wolf and I follow his orders. As I walk past the house the black wolf ran out of I get curious.

Ever heard the saying, curiosity killed the wolf?

Of corse not the real saying is, curiosity killed the cat, but cats are stupid.

I walk into the small house and see one of the elder woman sitting on a rocking chair.

“Excuse me?” I say as I walk up to the rocker.

“Excuse me, miss?” I walk in front of the woman and her face is missing. I gasp and gag. The scent coming from her is not decent either. Her limp body is dripping with blood. I look at her torn and tattered night gown and fall limp myself.

“Emma!” Jason growls as he runs to my fallen body.

“Jase, Wh-What happened to her.” I gag again.

He nudges his head into my neck, “It’ll be okay, he won’t get you.”

“You mean you didn’t-” I was cut of my Jason.

“No, he had completely shifted scents somehow. I couldn’t track him.” Jason says.

I feel my big wolf eyes become glossy with soon to be tears.

“Shh. Em, it’s time to go home. You shouldn’t have seen this.” Jason says as he helps me up.

I walk with him past the doctors and wishing I could be with my mum. I look back down as we get closer to my house. I see my paws stained with the elder woman’s blood and I stop. I wipe my paws in the moist grass furiously.

“Emma! What are you doing?” Jason asks.

“Get it off.” I cry, “Get it off!”

“I will, first let’s get you home okay?” Jason says as he walks me into my house.

“Shift.” He says.

“Not in front of you.” I say.

“Why? I am your mate.” He says.

I shake my head and run to my room. I shift and put my house coat around me. My skin has blood everywhere.

I walk back to Jason who was now in the bathroom with a towel around his waist and has a warm bath running for me.

“Hop in love.” He says as he adds the bubbles.

“Turn around.” I say and he rolls his eyes turning around. I drop my house coat feeling his eyes on my back side. I roll my eyes before saying, “I said to turn around for a reason.” I growl and he chuckles turning back around. I step into the tub covering myself with bubbles. “Okay.” I say.

“You have a fine bum, baby.” He says as he sits on the edge of the tub.

Well, you have nice abs.

“Thank you.” He winks.

“Did I say that out loud?” I ask blushing.

“Sure did.” He smiles as I blush even more.

After the bath I put on my PJ’s and let Jason back into my room, “So, why do my dad and brother never come home ‘till really late?”

“They are assigned to certain streets to make sure everyone is safe.” He says before adding, “I am glad I got your street today.”

I blush as I crawl in bed, “I suppose you have business to get to.” I say rolling onto one side.

“I already talked to my father about the elder through mind-link so, I will be spending the night with you.” He says.

“No, you have to make sure everyone else is safe.” I say.

“I told my father I found my mate and I wanted to stay the night with you.” He says and crawls in bed beside me, “He was fine with it. He is going to do the street and check on the elder who was murdered.”

“Oh.” I say as his arms snake around mine protectively.

“Good night pumpkin.” He says and I fall asleep to the beat of his heart.
