Chapter 8 - Case ii

You had Yugyeom drive you back to the house you had originally picked Jungkook up from, upon his request for his things. The drive was silent but comfortable, almost like it was a breather. You liked being in a car, driving on endless roads, it gave you time to think. However this was a short trip. It wasn't long before you got there.

His mother was surprised to see you both, a look of anxiety on her deceivingly young face giving away her thoughts. Had you come to deliver bad news? How was her son doing? Was he eating well? Was he ok?

You quickly explained her son was doing just fine, he was in rehabilitation, getting the help he needed and was starting to recover and that you were merely there to pick some things up for him.

She allowed you up to Jungkook's room, and upon entering flashbacks shot through your head from the day you met Jungkook.

The blind was now open allowing sunlight to filter through making the room seem entirely different to the one you had met Jungkook in. The room you had met Jungkook in had been an abyss of dark shadows and had become a dwelling for something malicious. You were lucky that Jungkook hadn't actually physically hurt his mother before you and the boys had got to him. At least she had realised that her son wasn't just being a moody teen going through puberty and that there was something wrong going on. You yourself were thankful she had managed to contact the P.I.A in time.

It couldn't have been puberty anyway, Jungkook was in his twenties. You thought to yourself as you shifted through Jungkook's room for his things.

Unlike last time the bed had been made and the room cleaned and tidied making it easy for you to find his games, books and music player.

As you sifted through his wardrobe for some extra hoodies and shirts, in the corner of your eye you spotted something out of the ordinary. You shut the wooden doors and got a closer look at the abnormality on the wall that peaked out from behind the wardrobe.

It was a dark stain of some sorts, that reminded you strangely like an infection on a body. Your curiosity got the better of you so using your arm and body strength you shoved your shoulder into the side of the wardrobe to shift it over slightly.

The markings on the wall behind Jungkook's wardrobe grew bigger as the wardrobe revealed more. They were strange and gave off an ominous aura to you.

It was like a black mould contaminating the wall.

Why hadn't you noticed this the last time you were here? Perhaps you had been too distracted with Jungkook to notice...Plus, it had been pretty dark.

You couldn't be too careful.

"Hey Yugyeom, come 'ere a sec." You called down the stairs to where the tall male was idly chatting with Mrs. Jeon. A minute later you heard the heavy footsteps thump up the stairs.

"You ok?"

"Yeah yeah, but I found this. I don't remember seeing it before, I wanted to get a second opinion." You said motioning towards the wall.

Yugyeom went to touch the mould but you slapped your hand onto his wrist before he could.

"Stop, you don't know what that is."

He frowned at you glancing between your face and the marking.

"Hmm, it does seem odd, but, honestly (Y/n), it probably is just mould. I wouldn't worry too much about it." Yugyeom said standing back to his full height and scratched the back of his head.

He was probably right. However you couldn't shake off the feeling that it was something else, that it wasn't just ordinary mould.

You're being silly, (Y/n). Irrational. You've been wrong about these things before.

After bidding Mrs. Jeon farewell and thanks for the polite customary tea, the two of you piled in to the van with Jungkook's things and drove back.

As you and Yugyeom returned to the facility with no other issues, you parted ways and made your way to Jungkook's room.

You arrived at his door, a box with his Play Station, Nintendo Switch, Gameboy, boxed games and a few items of clothing in your arms. You knocked on the door with your foot due to your arms being full.

You heard a shuffling from behind it before the door opened to reveal a hopeful looking face.

"(Y/n)!" Jungkook beamed as he realised who it was. He opened the door wider to let you in and closed it softly behind you.

"Hey, Kook." You paused realising your slip up and turned to the boy with a sheepish look. Noting his wide eyed expression you were quick to apologise. "Oh, sorry about that, it just came out. You don't mind nicknames do you? I hope its not too informal..."

He wasn't sure but he could have sworn his stomach did a small flip.

"N-no, Kook is...I like it." He smiled shyly watching you place the box on the floor.

"So, here are your things and I do think I promised you a game?" You said picking out the items from the box and placing them onto the copy and pasted coffee table that was in each of the patient rooms.

"We can play multiplayer but..." His eyes shifted restlessly as he struggled to find his words.

"But what?" You rose a brow, ducking your head, trying to make eye contact again.

"We need a T.V to hook the console up to." You smiled at him uncharacteristically cheekily causing a pink hue to bloom on his cheeks.

"Why are you acting shy now? It's just a T.V, it's not like your asking for pockets of gold. We can hook it up to the one in the patient's living room quarters. Is that ok with you?"

His quiet nod worried you slightly. He had been so excited just a moment ago.

Then it came to you. You were concerned that Jungkook was beginning to think of his room as too much of a safe space. He needed to be ok with leaving it once in a while, even if it was just down the hall to the shared living room that was accessible to the other patients. The facility didn't have many patients so it was never very busy in there.

"Are you sure its ok?"

"Yes, now come on. Grab what you need."

You couldn't help but notice Jungkook's behaviour turn anxious the moment he left his room, his eyes darting to each end of the hallway, and notably flinching at each shadow that passed by.

A motherly instinct took over and you seemed to forget your second occupation. A therapist wasn't supposed to be a mother to her patients. You did it anyway, ignoring your common sense and professionalism.

Jungkook's eyes widened as his hand was engulfed with your slightly smaller one.

The brunette looked up at you in surprise as you led him to the living area, where there was a fairly large flat screen T.V, sofas and a couple of bean-bags to sit on.

"Here, pass me the cables." You said holding out your hand and letting go of his with the other.

Jungkook noted the warmth that lingered on his skin from your hand before handing you the wires. You plugged them into the T.V and hooked the other ends up to the Play Station. You stepped away and plopped yourself on a red bean-bag.

"So? Come sit here. You're going to have to tell me how to play." You said patting the green bean-bag next to you.

Jungkook hesitated at first, you seemed much more relaxed than usual which passed off onto him. He obliged and grabbed the two controllers.

Jungkook didn't know why his brain became very aware when his foot touched your own or when his fingers brushed yours passing a controller to you.

He knew he had been acting odd recently, noticing things he wouldn't used to think, say or do, like the way he memorised the way your skin felt on his finger or the way he felt nervous sitting so close to you. He'd definitely not thought about girls before as much as he did about you, or since he had been under a spirit's influence, but for some reason he didn't think he minded that much.

"Like I said, go easy on me. I don't get to play games often. In fact I haven't played anything since I was little." You confessed with an embarrassed look. Jungkook chuckled.

"Don't worry, (Y/n). I'll go easy on you. What do you want to play first?"

While playing Jungkook felt slightly out of sync. Not that he was suddenly a bad player, nothing like that. It was just it began to settle in his mind that he hadn't touched his games since he had been possessed. He hadn't even been possessed for that long of a time. It just made him more aware that he had been controlled by someone, or something

Jungkook recalled his therapy sessions he had with Jisoo and what she had told him to do when he started to remember, to keep his mind in the present. He was no longer possessed, he was the one in control of himself now. He was ok, everything was ok.

Then why did he feel so unnerved as he watched his character through the screen? The character that he controlled.

"Ok, Jungkook stop! Now you're just taking the piss, you're going too easy on me!" You laughed shoving your fist into his shoulder half-heartedly. He shot you a natural bunny toothed grin. "Show me your true colours!"

The boy suddenly heard his heart pumping the blood around his head.

Ok (Y/n), I'll show you.

The two of you played with and against each other for over two hours, the time passing by without you even realising how late it was until a certain enthusiastic male entered the living room.

"(Y/n)! There you are, I've been high and low looking for you!" Jackson cried animatedly with his arms raised high as if waiting for a hug.

"Doubtful." You shot hiding your amused smirk as you finished your side of the game and got up to meet Jackson. You bent backwards to rid yourself of the stiff knots in your back from being sat on a bean-bag for a long while. Jungkook looked up at you with a small pout once you had stopped playing. You offered him an apologetic smile.

"That's enough for me today, you keep on playing if you want." That gave him the confirmation to carry on, though he wasn't too happy that his video game fun had been cut in half once you'd stopped.

"Find anything interesting?" You asked sitting on the couch not too far from the flat screen T.V, keen for new information on the case. You glanced over to Jungkook remembering he was in the room. Should you really be discussing a case with him around?

You decided it was ok as he seemed more immersed in his game to care.

The taller male slapped a shiny magazine down on the coffee table in front of you, and collapsed into the armchair opposite.

You eyed the magazine tattered with cringey quotes and offerings of 'How to get a great bod in just one month!' and 'You you want all the ladies to look your way?'. Did Jackson think you were into that sort of stuff?

"Jack-" You began before said man cut you off,

"Before you say 'What the hell is this?' Take a look at whose on the front cover."

You took the magazine and scanned the front page, trying to ignore the obnoxious bold words that surrounded it.

The man on the cover was undeniably handsome, with smooth platinum blonde locks any girl would kill for, perfect plump lips, sharp eyes and an expression that said he couldn't care less that he was on the front cover of a magazine that thousands of people saw.

You knew who this man was. You would have to be living under a rock to not know. He was everywhere, magazines, billboards, news articles and any other media coverage you could think of.

This man's name was Park Jimin. The young CEO of Park Industries that had women and men swooning over him.

"Ok..." You drew out the word in a questioning tone.

"Yes, that's 'Oh so handsome, makes my panties drop' Park Jimin." Jackson mocked in a high pitched girly voice that made you snicker. "Well guess what, its his company that owns Wings Psychiatric Hospital."

"Oh damn, I did not expect that..." You admitted staring back at Park's smouldering printed gaze. "But how does that info help us in any way?"

"I just thought it would be somewhat helpful if we're going to try and get in. Apparently he's been neglecting the Hospital for some time now. Repairs to the building need doing for instance, and from what I've also found out is that employees are leaving left right and centre, they haven't been doing much about it. Whether they just need the right funding I don't know."

You looked up at Jackson with sudden glee.

"Ah! You just reminded me I was going to say that too! I called the hospital earlier today that they were hiring, this is the perfect opportunity to get in and see what we're dealing with!" You exclaimed."

"Yes that's right, and that handsome man there is the big shot owner of it all. I was just as surprised as you were, sweet cheeks."

Jungkook's finger twitched in annoyance, his character making a wrong move from the small action and died. He hadn't been paying attention to your conversation until just then.

When were you going to finish talking with that guy? And what was so interesting about the guy on the cover of a men's fashion magazine?

Jungkook glanced over to it. Did you perhaps like the type of men it featured in the pages? Or the clothing they wore? He shook his thoughts away and returned to his game, trying to solely focus on that instead.

"Whoa mate, you're good at that aren't you?" Jackson commented after watching him for a few minutes.

Jungkook found it more condescending than an actual compliment. Like Jackson was speaking to him like a kid.

"Hm." He responded in a grunt.

Jackson looked over at you with a pout. You frowned. You hadn't expected Jungkook to respond like that. Nevertheless to gave Jackson a shrug.

The older male stood up from his seat and cracked his neck side to side, the action making you cringe. It was like when someone cracked their knuckles, you hated it.

"Oh, by the way, (Y/n). Boss man wants to see you." Jackson finished before walking out with a swagger.

After escorting Jungkook back to his room with slight difficulty (him not wanting to put down the game he had been playing and tried tricking you into playing one last multiplayer with him), you made your way to Mr. Bang's office. Before reaching the door however you were stopped by someone calling out to you.

"Oh! Hello Miss Pretty Eyes, I'm glad see you again!" A voice chimed from behind you.

You turned to the owner of the familiar voice to see the Undertaker's assistant, Taehyung was it? As per usual he had a bright smile of his lips and a mysterious glint in his eyes that never seemed to fade, always seeming like he knew something you didn't.

"Hello, Mr. Kim," You paused between 'Mr' and 'Kim', struggling to remember his last name. You had only met him that one time at the morgue and it was during work, so you didn't quite find it appropriate to call him Taehyung so soon, but it seemed like he had the opposite idea. That or he didn't know what basic etiquette was.

He made a childish distasteful expression and shook his head in disagreement.

"Too formal. Call me Taehyung, we are the same age after all, Miss Pretty Eyes." Now he just seemed to be saying that mockingly...Maybe. You weren't sure. You weren't sure about anything when it came to him. You frowned at him as he grinned mischievously.

"How are you so sure that we're the same age? I could be your elder for all you know. And please, Mr. Kim," You were sure to put an emphasis on his name. "don't call me that."

"Then how about..."

He took a hold of your wrist catching you off guard, you hadn't realised when he had gotten close enough to reach.

He seemed to think as his thumb smoothed across your skin in a slow manner, leaving goosebumps in its wake. The action unnerved you slightly.

"Petal." He smiled fondly. "Your skin, its smooth like flower petals, and it should stay that way."

You were thrown off by Taehyung's odd words, but decided not to blame his strangeness too much, as being around dead people all day with hardly anyone alive to talk to must take a hit to your social skills.

"What do you mean 'stay that way'?" You chuckled nervously. His eyes flickered up to your own, a sudden hazed look clouding over them.

"Oh, well, you never know," his grip tightened, "when you might get hurt. Skin is delicate after all." He let go.

You watched as the darkened mark from where his hand had been, faded on your skin, but left a haunting chill in its wake.

"See you around, Petal."

You opened your mouth to ask what the man was doing here only for your words to be stolen by the empty space of the hallway as you looked back up.

You let out an exasperated sigh before knocking on Shihyuk's office door.

What on earth was that?

"(Y/n)! I hope you're well? I'm going to get straight to it no that you're here. Before you start work on your second case. I've think I've found someone who can help you out with your little problem." He stated.

"What do you mean...?" You questioned with uncertainty, your brows knitted together once you had made yourself comfortable in the chair on the other side of Bang's office desk.

"Your soul, (Y/n). I remembered I had a few old books written by priests way back then, I found that they briefly touched on something similar to your situation. I'll explain as well as I can. Your soul has been cut in a way...And if you leave it, just like a physical wound, it can get infected." Shihyuk explained slowly, keeping his eye contact steady, looking for any sign that you didn't understand.

"So what you're saying is that I need to fix it sooner rather than later? Like, put a metaphoric band-aid on it or something...?"

Shihyuk chuckled. "Sort of. A friend of mine has asked for some help recently, and she's well informed on this, a lot more than I am. We came to an agreement, that if we can help her out she will do the same for you."

You nodded in understanding, trying your best to take this all in. With all your time dealing with the paranormal and things that the majority of the human population didn't believe even existed, you had never heard of something like this. And that was another thing, why had it happened to you specifically? Had you just been unlucky? Bang Shihyuk had the highest record of exorcisms in his career and not once had something like this happened to him.

It made you question if you had performed the exorcism right at all, but you quickly dismissed that thought.

"I know Jackson is working on that new case with you so I don't want you to worry too much about it yet. Focus on this task I'm giving you and then join him later. Please, (Y/n). Your health is more important."

You didn't like what you were hearing too much. Postponing a case wasn't exactly something you loved to do but as a direct order from your boss, you had to follow is words. Not only your boss either. He was someone you had looked to almost as a father figure since he took you in since your mother's death. You owed a lot to the man in front of you.

"Also, I've hired some new help, Taehyung. He seemed eager to see what the kind of work we carry out here." The sudden information was a bit of a shock to you.

Taehyung? Here? That must have been why you saw him earlier...

"I wasn't aware that the people at the morgue knew what we do here. And forgive me if I'm speaking out of line here, but, is that wise? Does Kim have any idea what he'd be getting into?" You considered, making your doubt about Kim Taehyung clear. There was something about that boy that was quite...Odd.

Shihyuk chuckled. "I don't see the problem. You were a lot younger yourself when I let you start your job here, if you recall, (Y/n)." You pouted and slumped back in your chair in defeat.

"Its just...He seems a bit childish, I don't think he would take it seriously." You confessed.

To be honest you weren't sure yourself why you were so against Taehyung becoming a member of the P.I.A.

"And Jackson isn't?" Bang challenged with a raised brow. He had a point. However you knew Jackson well from working with him for so many years. He would always rise to the occasion when needed. Although with his childish streak, he treated his job seriously at the right times. "He won't be joining us as a fully fledged P.I.A member but I have allowed him to become an assistant of sorts."

"Oh and to answer your first question, Mark's parents knew all about it. We've been in business together ever since I took over from my own father, and now Mark taking over his parents. Well that's not entirely true, Mark doesn't get involved, he simply likes to do his job, but if we ever need to look at a body he's always willing to let us in, as you already know." Shihyuk clarified. The older man opened a desk drawer and shuffled through it bringing out a slip of paper and scribbling something on it before handing it over to you.

"What's this?"

"The address to where you will be going tomorrow. Go there, help out with their problem and let her fix you. I have asked Taehyung will meet you there afterwards as he has a car. He will help you get to anywhere you need."

"Why can't Yugyeom come with me?" You asked a little too quickly which you regretted instantly. Now you were on the verge of being a brat.

Shihyuk let out a sigh and sent you a stern look. "Because Yugyeom is busy as I have tasked him with a case outside of Seoul."

Great. You were stuck with the rookie.

"Ok sir. I'll leave first thing in the morning."

Personally I'm an Xbox person but I can imagine Jungkook owning a Play Station...I feel like I've read or seen somewhere that he does...Not sure I could be talking out of my ass so please ignore me ha...ha. Hope you guys enjoyed this one! Also one last thing, I have marked this chapter (and all the others) as UNEDITED, so if you do spot any mistakes I do apologise. I will be going through and editing the chapters once I've posted a few more. Anyway, I hope you all have a great day (no matter what time zone you're currently in)! -Rikki
