Chapter 4 - Case i
You were suffocated in what seemed to be a thick blackness and what really terrified you was the many hands within that grabbed and snatched at your clothes, hair and skin.
Frantic, your mouth was wide open to scream yet nothing but silence emitted from your vocal cords.
Suddenly, a colder pair of hands, colder than the rest latched an iron grip around your body and pulled. You were pulled from the swarm of dirt ridden hands and into something solid, yet you felt no safer. In fact you felt trapped, as one hand pressed against your abdomen and the other, slid up and around your neck like a snake. Your body froze in a blind panic.
Whoever it was, their cheek came to rest against your own and their chin on your shoulder. All you could do was feel, as everything was too black to see.
"You saved me, my angel," The voice was malicious as it cooed in your ear causing the hairs on the back of your neck to stand on end. "But," The hand around your throat began to squeeze. "who, will save you." His voice let out a deep cackle as the pressure around your throat tightened to a suffocating point.
You opened your mouth again to scream.
You were thrust back into your body which lay on something familiar, with your head pounding you tried to allow yourself to relax as you realised you were in your own bed.
No thick darkness. No hands dragging your flailing body down.
Groaning you sat up, clutching and massaging your scalp in a meek attempt to ease the pain.
"How are you feeling?"
Your eyes snapped to the source of the voice. Jisoo sat in a chair beside you with a concerned look on her pretty features as she looked you over.
"What happened?" You questioned falling back into the cushions, willing the pounding in your skull to go away.
"You passed out. Yugyeom carried you here while Jackson took care of that boy." Jisoo explained to you gently, a concerned frown pulling at her pink lips. Your eyes widened in realisation.
"How is he!? How is Jungkook? Is he ok?" You bombarded your friend with frantic questions, muscles trembling from anxiety and ache.
"Whoa whoa, calm down, he's just fine."
"Thank God." You breathed a sigh of relief falling back into the comfort of your pillows.
"He's been taken to the containment wing, so he'll be stable at the least in a couple of days. He'll stay there for a bit until we're certain the spirit is gone. I think it would be best to leave him to the others for a bit."
You shot her a questioning look. What had she meant by that? "I need to see for myself." You said sitting back up with a wince.
"Seriously (Y/n) you need to rest. You hit your head pretty hard when you fell." Jisoo tried to convince you.
"Why did I black out? That's never happened before." You questioned quietly, not really expecting an answer.
"I'm not too sure, but after hearing you collapsed Mr. Bang came running as soon as he heard. He said something about the spirit being especially strong, it has almost latched itself onto Jungkook's soul, so exorcising it must have drained your energy."
You looked at Jisoo in confusion. "Latched? That's not possible. I've never heard of that happening before."
Jisoo shrugged, not exactly knowing herself and stood up from her seat beside your bed. You spotted a book on the floor beside the chair and it made your heart squeeze, in a good way. Had she been with you the entire time? You looked up at her with big puppy dog eyes and a pout. She rose a brow at you before noticing the book as well and rolling her eyes, suddenly understanding why you were giving her that expression.
"Oh stop it. I don't love you that much I was only here for a little while. Anyway now that you're up I'm pretty sure Mr. Bang would like to see you." She grumbled glancing away from your heartfelt stare. You grinned at her, knowing full well how long she had been there watching over you while you had slept.
You trudged your way slowly to Bang's office, willing the dulling ache against your skull to fade away.
You were convinced that the headache formatted from your earlier worry about what Jungkook or, scratch that, evil spirit had said back in the exorcising chamber.
Your mother. What had he known about your mother?
You convinced yourself that nothing he said proved that he knew you or her, only that you were beautiful, just like her. That didn't mean he knew a damn thing. Unsettled spirits always tried to unnerve you and make you lose focus. That's all he was trying to do. He didn't know your mother. That's all.
After all, she was dead.
You came to Bang's office and made your way inside after hearing a welcoming voice from your knock. It was almost a relief to hear Bang's voice, he could answer your questions.
"(Y/n)! How are you feeling? Take a seat pumpkin, you must still be fatigued from that." He mothered you softly, worry etched into his faint age lines on his face. "That must have been traumatic, I'm sorry you went through that alone. If I had known the severity of the situation I would have done it myself."
His words made your confidence deflate a little. Had you something wrong?
"Do you not trust me to perform exorcisms?" You asked, the hurt obviously visible in your eyes as he began to shake his head vigorously.
"No, no, no. What I'm saying is that Jungkook's case was unexpected. Jackson came to me in a hurry after you had collapsed. I came to survey the situation and found the damage that spirit had done to the wards in the room and yourself." Skihyuk explained.
Your brows furrowed in confusion.
"Damage? To me?" You questioned slowly. What on earth did he mean by that? You were fine. At least you felt fine, apart from that nightmare you had before you woke up.
"Yes (Y/n), spiritually. You may seem fine on the outside, but that isn't quite the case inside. I'd rather not go into detail before I know anything, as of right now I don't know much, but for now I'd like to keep an eye on your spiritual state. Mean while I am going to search into Jungkook's history and try and find out why that spirit had been powerful enough to render you unconscious."
You had to let his words sink in to get a grasp on what he meant. You weren't ok on the inside? What on earth was that supposed to mean?
"So for a few days I don't want you to take on any cases. Rest and continue with your counselling jobs. I trust that you'll take it easy?"
You left Bang's office with more questions than answers meaning you knew for the rest of the day, your headache would remain. You weren't sure as to why but Mr. Bang's words unsettled you slightly. You weren't well spiritually? What did that even mean?
You went back to your office to close the main part of Jungkook's possession case and wrapped it up to pass onto Mr Bang. The only job left you had to do today was your therapy meeting with Seokjin. Which suddenly reminded you, you told him you would go shopping for groceries and ingredients like you had promised.
You glanced down at your watch. If you were quick you could fit in a little shopping time before you had to meet Jin.
However first you felt you needed to pay a visit to Jungkook. You had to know that he was ok, to put your mind at ease.
As it was the first stage of his rehabilitation, Jungkook's room wasn't as cosy as Jin's. It was padded and grey. A similar cell as to the ones where you would generally keep possessed victims in. Jungkook was no longer possessed, but the side effects to the exorcism affected each person differently. It was to save him from hurting himself...
It hurt your heart as you entered his room to see the young man curled up on his bed sheets. He looked so vulnerable and small.
"Jungkook?" You called out softly.
The male twitched at the sound of your voice and slowly lifted his head. He locked eyes with you and stared, just stared, as if he weren't actually seeing you, until a small light of familiarity flickered in his dark orbs and he jumped into action.
He leapt off the bed and ran to you, causing you to take a step back in surprise. You weren't ready for the boy to suddenly envelope your smaller form in his embrace, tightly securing his arms around you as if you would disappear any second. You regained your movement from your confused trance and awkwardly hugged back, gently. You weren't so comfortable with someone you had barely known showing such skinship. You let it pass however as Jungkook had just barely come out of a traumatic experience that he probably wouldn't fully recover from.
"How are you feeling, Jungkook?" You asked softly, in fear he would shatter. You weren't sure what kind of fragile state he was in, so you had to be careful. You were first to pull away so you could look at his face as you spoke to him. You could tell from Jungkook's reluctance that he would have held onto you longer if you hadn't pulled away first.
You felt him shake his head, dark locks tickling your neck lightly. Was that meant to be a 'no I'm not ok' or a 'No I don't want to talk about it' ? You weren't entirely sure.
"Jungkook, you need to talk to me, hun."
His voice made you jump from the silence you had been in not a minute ago.
"Its so silent in here, Noona." Your eyes went wide at his new term for you. Noona. You gulped. Was that not for people to use if they were close to one another?
The thought vanished from your mind as you felt him tremble, and your motherly instincts began to kick in. You moved back slightly to take a look at his downcast face. Your hand moved to envelope his own, encouraging him to go on.
"I don't like it. It's so lonely and my head..." He trailed off, but a squeeze from your hand urged him to continue. "My head feels so empty without that, thing, inside." He shivered. "Don't get me wrong, I'm happy its gone, but it just feels so strange, and I don't entirely feel like myself."
"Its ok to feel like that Jungkook. You've gone through something very traumatising and you have been so strong through it all. I'm so proud of you." You told him as you pulled his head gently to rest on your shoulder in a small hug.
"You're...proud of, me?" He mumbled just above a whisper which was muffled slightly by your shoulder.
"Hmhum." You hummed in agreement as you continued to pat his head softly, something he was growing used to. Growing so fond of your fingers running through his hair. Your fingers were like magic as they automatically soothed his nerves and minds.
"You're proud of, me." He whispered in more of a statement.
"Hmm." You hummed again, but froze as something encased around your hand and squeezed tightly. You glanced down to see Jungkook's hand engulfing your own.
"Noona's proud of me." He said again, causing your brows to furrow together.
"Yes, I am Jungkook. You've done very well." You confirmed, uncertainty laced in your voice.
Jungkook's head lifted from your shoulder but he didn't pull away to far as he locked eyes with your own. A smile pulled on his lips.
"(Y/n)'s proud of me."
You found it slightly strange, the way he was acting, as if he were in a daze as he looked at you so softly, his brown hues glinting with glee, yet, you failed to see any light within those dark orbs.
Jungkook's head pulsated painfully, as if his skull was going to burst open. He felt so drained, but so awake for once in a long drawn out while.
His consciousness had been in and out as he was taken to this lonely secluded room. It had been a few hours since you had left after coming to check on him. Left him alone.
"W-where's...(Y-Y/n)?" He managed to croak out weakly. Why did a single name bring him comfort? Was it because that was the name of the female that saved him? That saved his soul from corrupting? Or was it merely because he felt closer to you, as you had brought him back to his senses when he first met you in his room at his house. He didn't know how you had done it, but you had somehow put the spirit controlling his mind to sleep, and for the first time in weeks, had a conversation with a person while he was in control of his words, and now, you had expelled that evil spirit that wrecked his life. You saved him.
You saved him.
You were his angel.
The boy lay there on his side, watching his hands clench and un-clench into fists. He was finally completely in control of his body, still not fully believing it.
"(Y/n)." Your name would just slip out of his mouth from time to time, the only thing he wasn't able to control entirely. He liked it, saying your name. He wanted to see his saviour again, to thank you properly, but he remembered back to the exorcism as he caught glimpses of a book slipping from your hands and you dropping to the ground like a limp doll the moment he regained his mind back.
They had taken you from that room without hesitation, up the stairs and out of his sight. What had happened to you. He hadn't hurt you had he?
He felt he could sleep easier, if you were in his mind, and like a lullaby his eyes fluttered closed as your name once again was whispered from his lips.
(Y/n)...
(Y/n)
(Y/n)
(Y/n)
(Y/n)
(Y/N)
(Y/N)!
The store wasn't far, and walking would do you some good. It gave you time to clear your busy thoughts and take a breather from everything. Ghost hunting was quite taxing after all.
Once you reached the store you plucked up a basket and pulled out your list from your pocket, the one which had Jin's ingredients on in small messy handwriting.
You meandered round the seemingly empty store for your items at a leisurely pace, never once suspecting anything that was going underway.
After filling your basket you made your way to the tills and waited for the cashier to scan your items, while you fished out the money from your purse.
You looked down at the man's hands as they took the notes from you.
They were shaking, trembling in fact.
Which also made you notice the paleness of the cashier's face, fear evident in his eyes. You hadn't noticed the second man, standing close behind the cashier holding something against his back. You forced yourself to calm your breathing, in and out. Act normal. You watched the other male in the corner of your eyes cautiously. His face was stern and harsh, staring directly at you.
You looked up at the liquor behind the men and catching sight of what was going on in the faint reflection of the bottles. Your heart stopped.
The cashier handed you your change and you didn't fail to catch the pleading in his eyes.
You caught a glimpse of the male behind the cashier, his eyes like an raging storm, dark and narrowed at you, almost like he was sending you a silent message, 'scream and you'll regret it'.
You remained calm. Normal, stay like that.
You took your bagged groceries off the counter and stepped away not before smiling and thanking both men.
Every step towards the exit felt like an hour, your lips drawn into a thin line and your shoulder's tense from the burning gaze you felt on your back.
As soon as you stepped out of the store, you let go of a breath you hadn't realised you had been holding, and your feet automatically started to pick up the pace. Once you were far enough away, you fished your phone out of your pocket with shaking fingers and dialled the police.
You couldn't help but feel guilt flood through you after leaving the cashier alone in the store, but there was nothing you would have been able to do in all honesty.
With an unsettled mind, you made your way back to the facility, unable to shake the piercing dark eyes of the criminal that had stared back at you with a fierceness that sent shivers down your spine.
You could only hope the police would get there on time.
Who do you think the guy with the gun was? Or was it a gun? I never really mentioned...Guess you'll have to find out in ten years when I release the next chapter ahaha-Rikki
