Grian's pov
The images showed hungry people, people begging, and people crying. Then it showed a group of citizens in what looked to be a cellar. They were all wearing cloaks, and were gathered around a table with a map on it. They were laying down markers.
A new person entered the room. Everyone in the room turned to see who it was. The newcomer pulled their cloak hood off and everyone else relaxed.
"I think I figured out how to use the magic we discovered," the woman said. She pulled what looked to be a prototype Watcher mask. It looked like the one ̇/ᔑリ↸╎ was wearing when the Entity showed Grian the leader of the first Watchers.
"You put it on, and you can see anything you want to." The other people in the room gather around her, asking to try it. They each put it on, astonished at the power that came with the mask.
"We can use this to find food storage to feed people and steal weapons," one of the rebels said.
The scroll shifted, showing soldiers marching down the streets. They were searching houses. They were forcefully interrogating citizens about a rebellion.
The hologram changed to display some of the Entity's soldiers dragging someone in. The person had ragged clothes and cuts all over him. His hands were cuffed behind his back. He had dirt and scrapes all over this body. Grian was pretty sure that he was the person who said that they could use the mask to steal from the Entity. The guards knocked him on his knees.
"This is the traitor you were searching for, your majesty," one of the guards said.
"Thank you for bringing him to me," the Entity replied, "Now, if I were you, I would back up."
The Entity pulled the potion that it called 'the Devourer' and drank it. It spread its arms and began chanting "ᒲᔑリ↸⚍ᓵᔑ∷ᒷ ᔑリ╎ᒲᔑ" over and over again. The man started to shine, the light streaming to the Entity. The Entity began to glow cyan. The light from the traitor flowed into the Entity's mouth. The man was screaming.
Suddenly, the light from both of them shut off.
The man's body fell limp to the floor.
Many scenes like this flashed by.
So this is what it was trying to do to me. Grian shuddered. I'm glad it didn't have its full power.
There were abandoned and burnt houses on the streets now. Everything had an air of depression and fear to it. There were no kids playing in the streets, and the only people walking around looked like they were trying to hide in cloaks and pockets.
The scroll showed the people in the basement again. There were many more of them this time. The one who had made the first Watcher's mask was handing more of them out. The rebels put them on.
The mask-maker stood on a chair, wearing the mask.
"Lord Tolo has brought nothing but terror and misery. It promised a new reign of magic and knowledge, and, well, it got magic. And now it can take the very essence that keeps us alive. We need to take a stand now, before it becomes unstoppable. When the time comes, we will wear these masks with pride. We are the defenders of the people. The hope for a new era. This is the Watcher's Rebellion. We are the Watchers!" they announced. Her small speech was met with cheers and applause. This must be ̇/ᔑリ↸╎.
"Another thing before the meeting ends," ̇/ᔑリ↸╎ continued after the noise died down, "I have discovered a new kind of magic that we can use. I think it's related to the masks." She extended her hand. It glowed with purple Watcher magic. The Watcher eyes appeared around her, and the Evo emblem glowed on the mask and a weird halo appeared above her head.
I thought I was the only one who had that halo. It must be because I'm technically an 'original Watcher.'
She used the magic to lift a marker on the table. ̇/ᔑリ↸╎ lowered her hand and the magic faded away. Others around her tried but had little success.
"It will take a while for you to learn to use the magic. However, with practice you should be able to use it with strength. Anyways, we need to leave before our collective absence is noticed. Thank you all for coming." Slowly, everyone left, putting their masks in pockets and bags.
The depiction changed to show the Entity's army raiding the city again, but this time, people were fighting back. Some of the civilians were fighting in small groups, two or three of them sticking together in each team. They were wearing the Watcher masks.
Some of them had even figured out the Watcher wings, all though only a handful. Most of them were fighting with swords, bows, potions, or the most basic form of Watcher magic; telekinesis.
Again, the hologram changed. It displayed more people joining the Watchers.
Then it showed some of the Watchers being imprisoned, tortured, or having their souls consumed by the Entity.
After that, scenes of members of the Watcher Rebellion attacking and raiding the Entity's fortress. Sometimes they would pillage food storage, and attack barracks. Sometimes, when they attacked the barracks, they would recruit a few of the Entity's soldiers.
The next image was of a messenger arriving in the Entity's throne room.
"The Watchers have sent a message for you. They said it was urgent," the messenger said, handing it a letter. The Entity took it from her hands and opened it.
"We require your presence for a meeting. Meet us at these coordinates in two days. 905, 66, 1273. Sincerely, The Watchers," the Entity read, "What do they want? Well, whatever. I'll go. The worst that could happen is that I get all of their souls."
The messenger turned to leave.
The scene altered to display the Entity reading in the study. "So that's what I need to do. Now I understand." The Entity left the room, went down a few halls, and into a large room full of armor and weapons. Why are there no soldiers?
Grian's question was answered quickly. The Entity dripped some sort of potion over the floor. It went to the front of the room and began chanting something indistinguishable.
Then it blew an odd looking flame out of its mouth. The flames were midnight black with flashes of blood red, yellow, and cyan. The flames separated out into humanoid figures, much like what the Entity looked like in the mindspace.
"Take your weapons, my army. You have risen again to serve me. Tomorrow, we will take down the traitors. We will destroy them!" The Entity proclaimed.
The hologram changed to show the Entity's ghost army and the Watchers standing on opposite sides of an End island.
"Well here we are. What do you want, Xandi?" the Entity sneered.
"We want to discuss your rule, Lord Tolo," Xandi answered, spitting out the Entity's name, "You promised discovery and prosperity, yet all we've gotten is starvation and fear."
"I brought strength to this kingdom. The kingdom's army is stronger than ever. There is peace."
"You call death and suppression peace? All you've done is kill innocent people!"
"I have taken care of traitors who were disrupting the Order."
"Sure, if you call random citizens traitors."
"You wouldn't understand. You're nothing more than a peasant with some magic wings and a child's dress up mask. I have had enough of your little rebellion," it signaled for its army to charge. All chaos broke out.
The island became a battlefield. Those who could fly shot into the air and started shooting the ghost-warriors with bows and magic. Watchers and spirits fell. Blood splattered the ground.
Some of the Watchers were firing at the Entity, but it was no use. The Entity had created a force field around itself. The Watchers were losing. They were being pushed towards the edge of the island. It seemed there was no hope left.
Then Xandi charges the Entity. She was shining like a magic, purple star. The leader of the Watchers broke through the Entity's forcefield, sending it flying off the edge.
They both fell into the void.
The Entity's soldiers disappeared.
One of the Watchers looked over the edge. "It's gone. It's really gone. We won," he said, turning to face the others.
The remaining Watchers stood up.
"We did it," another added.
"Xandi did it. Her sacrifice is why we have been rid of that horrible being. She will be remembered," he corrected.
"That must be Xenos," Grian observed, translating the galactic name.
The less-injured ones performed a spell to carry the wounded and dead back to the city.
The Watchers took over the ruling in the city.
The hologram turned off.
