Chapter Eight
Jack...
He's all I can think about...
Is he using me...?
Does he like me...?
It's been two days since I saw him and he was sent to the Dean's office, and I haven't talked to him since the night we almost kissed...
I wanted to text him but I was scared. Why didn't he text me first?
Did he hate me for not kissing him...?
For not... Fucking him?
I need to relax, it's Saturday, so no class today. It's only 8:47 and Charlotte is still asleep.
Her laptop open to Craig, or "Mini's" videos again.
I decided to get up, and go to a diner a little ways down the road from campus.
I had nothing else to do.
I pulled my hair up into a lazy bun, grabbed random, causal clothes (preferable hoodie), and started out the door.
I arrived to the diner and told the waitress I was waiting for someone, but I lied just so I could get a booth.
I sat in the seat facing away from the entrance and the waitress said, "I'm Grace, your waitress for this morning, would you like a coffee or something to start you off?"
"No, I'm good, thank you though."
I heard the entrance of the diner open and the ding of a bell go off.
"Oh, sorry darlin'. I'll be right back."
I looked on my phone, and scrolled through my Twitter feed.
I heard Grace behind me say "Alrighty, you gents can have a seat right over hear and I'll be back in a jiffy!" She perked in a sweet tone.
"Thank you Ma'am." A familiar voice called.
Wait...
"Oh, you can call me Grace, doll."
"Alrighty, Grace Doll."
Grace giggled and skipped away to behind the counter.
That voice...
It was Daithi.
"So why'd you drag me out here, Jack?"
HE'S WITH JACK?!
Oh no no no no no no no!
I can't see him!
Not now!
It's okay (y/n), just play it cool...
I kept my phone up and my head down but continued to listen, I didn't want to raise suspicion.
"Daithi, I need you to listen to me." He stated in a stern tone.
"Alright mate, I'm all ears."
"I know I called you drunk the other night, and I'm sorry for that. But I can only trust you with this, because if I tell Craig he could tell his girlfriend What's-'Er-Face, and she could tell (y/n). So you can not speak a word of this. To anyone. Not even Joe."
"Jack, Joe is my dog. He can't speak English, who would he tell."
"David, that's not the point."
David? Was that Daithi's real name or something and Daithi was actually just a nickname?
"Sorry, go on."
"So (y/n)... She... She's been on my mind... a lot..." He started to get quiet.
"She almost kissed me on Wednesday... Well... Early Thursday mornin' technically. But her phone rang, and that stopped us. I wish it didn't go off, because I-"
"Are you ready to order, Ms?" I couldn't hear Jack because Grace came out to take my order.
I looked down at the menu because I already picked out my order.
I didn't want Jack or Daithi to hear me, so I pointed at the menu to my choice and looked up to her, mouthing the word "Please". She looked at me, confused, but put her thumb up and wrote my order down anyway.
"It will be ready in a few, so don't you go no where!"
I tried tuning back into Jack and Daithi's conversation.
"-anymore. I think I should, but... I don't know... what do you think?" I heard Jack finish.
Damn it...
He was talking about me and I couldn't hear half of it because of Grace.
But it wasn't her fault.
She didn't know I was eavesdropping.
"Jack, if you care about her, go for it. Just don't fuck it up like you normally do."
I heard a loud thud.
"AH, BY-JESUS WHUT WUS DAT FOR?" Daithi's true Irish was showing in his time of pain. I tried holding back a laugh. Jack must have kicked him under the table.
"Shut up, David." Jack said with a chuckle.
They continued talking for the rest of their time here, but only small talk that I heard as I ate.
"How --- Berenice --- You --- Yet?" I barely heard Jack say.
"Yeah --- we --- done --- moved --- over..." I heard a sniffle from Daithi.
I shouldn't listen.
That sounded personal to him.
Grace slid my bill on my table, so I flipped my hood up and dropped money on the table and left, hoping Daithi and Jack won't see me through my hoodie.
I left the building.
I don't think they saw me.
That's good.
