Jimin dropped the stone he was carrying, his eyes wide and heart racing.

"Who's that?"

Hyunwoo smiled at him, shifting the huge rock in his arms, "I thought you were going to help me, little brother,"

Jimin continued to stare, "But she's so beautiful,"

Hyunwoo turned to look where Jimin was focused, "Oh. That's Vasilissa, the chief's daughter. You haven't seen her before?"

Jimin shook his head dumbly, "Papa said that they kept her hidden,"

His older brother nodded, "I suppose they did,"

Jimin was only seven and he had already lost both of his parents. Hyunwoo was trying his very best to look after him, and although he was lacking as a father figure, he and Jimin had a very strong bond.

Suddenly, the young female in question, only five years old, turned and looked over at Jimin.

He yelped and twisted, propelling himself so that he was hidden behind Hyunwoo's violet tail.

Hyunwoo chuckled as his younger brother peeked out from behind him, carefully watching until the chief's mate and their daughter disappeared from view.

Jimin reemerged, looking up at Hyunwoo with serious eyes.

"I'm going to pair with her," He said.

Hyunwoo raised an eyebrow, "You're seven years old and you've never spoken to her,"

Jimin shook his head, "She feels like home. I'm going to pair with her,"

Jimin was trembling he was so nervous.

"Take a breath, little brother," Hyunwoo clapped him on the shoulder, making him jump, "You're finally going to meet her,"

Jimin was eighteen already and had never spoken to the chief's daughter. He had kept Vasilissa out of eyesight from the males of their tribe until now, as he saw her as a priceless gem, not wanting her to be stolen away until she was of age.

Hyunwoo had finally gotten the chief to agree to meet Jimin. He was the best warrior of the tribe and the chief had finally given them the honour of visiting their home.

Jimin smiled nervously, "It's just that... I've been thinking of her for all this time and- I don't mean in a creepy way! Am I creepy?" He groaned, "She's going to hate me!"

Hyunwoo laughed, "She's not going to hate you, Jimin. Calm down, we are just going for dinner. Oh, but I should warn you; the chief agreed to this because he thinks that I am interested in his daughter,"

Jimin stopped dead, gaping at his brother, who laughed loudly.

"Your face! No, I told him I'm not interested, don't worry. Come on, we're here,"

Hyunwoo gently nudged Jimin in front so he could knock on the door.

It swung open, revealing an angel. Jimin's voice was snatched from him as the beautiful blonde haired pearl tailed female smiled nervously at them.

"Hello, Hyunwoo, welcome to you and your brother,"

She waited for a reply but Jimin just stared at her. Hyunwoo smiled and nudged him again, "Greet her, kelp-brain,"

"Hello!" Jimin said loudly, jerking to attention, "I am Jimin and you are Vasilissa!"

He turned red enough to match his tail when he realised that he had shouted in her face, "I- I mean..."

Vasilissa beamed at him, her own cheeks turning pink, "You can call me Lissa,"

Jimin slowly returned the smile, "Lissa..."

—-

Jimin sobbed as he struggled with his brother's lifeless body. Blood was running down his cheek and his body, mixing with his brother's blood and staining the water around them. He was in agony.

His head hurt from the wound in his eye. His body hurt from the huge slash across his torso.

His heart hurt from the attacks on his heart.

Hyunwoo had died because of him. Vasilissa was gone because of him.

He was so weak.

His whole life was spent with just his older brother and Bee. He had friends, but they weren't the same.

Now, the two most important sirens in his life were gone. Because of him. He couldn't save either of them.

He was so weak.
