Chapter 4- Double Rainbow
"You can't just do that!" He laughed, still hiding behind the magazine.
"Well then, just...act casual. Maybe he won't notice," I said, and he raised his eyebrows.
"Okay yeah, he probably will. Whatever. Just ignore him," I said after the look he gave me.
I sat back up and put my jacket back on right while Blake put the magazine down. I noticed a very pretty blue-eyed girl with black hair walk in and sit down at his table. Ugh, how much of a player can he be? That's so gross.
I rolled my eyes.
Blake smirked.
"You jelly?" He asked, wiggling his eyebrows at me.
"Are you kidding me? No, never. It's just gross that he comes with a new girl every-" I quickly stopped, realizing I had just spilt my secret.
Darn it.
Blake wasn't supposed to know I knew Aiden. Well, partially knew him.
"Wait, you know him?" He asked, his tone suddenly interested.
"Uh, yeah. Well, no. Ugh. See, the thing is, I come here practically almost everyday. And well, he does too. But obviously, he's never acknowledged me because everytime he comes, he's with a girl. So basically, I find that pretty gross. He's probably a player," I explained, and Blake smirked again.
"Well now I definitely know why you hate him. You're more jealous than I thought," he stated, and my eyes widened.
"Am not!" I protested, and he started laughing.
"Kidding. I just like to see your reactions," he started, and I faked a laugh before giving him a dirty look.
"So what are you gonna do?" He asked, and I looked at him confused.
"What are you talking abo-"
"Hey! Would you look at that?" I heard Aiden say, and I covered my face.
Ughhhhhh. Noooo.
I finally turned around and faked a smile.
"Hey, dude," Blake said, stepping into the conversation first.
"Hey, man," Aiden replied and then turned to look at me. "And hello there, cupcake," he greeted me, and I decided this was officially the last straw.
"Isn't that rude?" I said bluntly, and he looked confused.
Gosh, he is so clueless.
"Calling me that in front of your...girlfriend..?" I clarified, and the girl began to laugh.
"What? No, he's-" She began, but Aiden cut her off.
"This is Lissy. Sorry I didn't introduce her before," he apologized, but the smug look on his face remained.
She gave him a weird look and he just ignored her.
What a freaking gentleman. First he cuts her off and then doesn't even want to admit the fact that they're a thing?
At least pretend you're interested, dude.
"Nice to meet ya," Blake said, and she just smiled at him.
"So what are you guys doing? On a date perhaps?" Aiden asked teasingly, and I rolled my eyes.
"Nope. And we were about to leave. Nice chat, bye!" I said happily and stormed out of the place.
"You do realize we didn't even get coffee right?" Blake stated as he quickly followed after me, frowning disappointingly.
"We'll come back again when he's not here. I promise," I apologized, and he sighed.
"True. Can we at least get some Starbucks?" He asked, his eyes hopeful, resembling a little kid.
"Most definitely." I laughed.
--
As we walked in the apartment, I heard Blue yelling like a madwoman.
I looked at Blake and found he had the same weirded out look on his face I did.
We both walked in her room and found her arguing with her guinea pig, Tutt.
"Alright you pig, YOU BETTER EAT YOUR FRUIT OR YOU WILL DIE OF A HEART ATTACK. I am doing this for your own good!" She said, and Tutt just stared at her trembling a bit.
Soon enough, he started squeaking crazily and Blue once again groaned desperately.
"I take you to the vet, buy you a beautiful cage, get you a sweater and you can't even do one thing for me? You are getting fat Tutt. It's just a fruit! Look, it's good!" She said, and stuffed a cherry in her mouth.
"See? Yum. If you want to live long you gotta eat it, dude."
Tutt just stared up at her blankly and she groaned again in desperatation.
After witnessing such thing, Blake and I burst out laughing.
"Oh my gosh! You scared the crap out of me!" Blue yelled, while Blake and I just continued to hold our tummies.
I am definitely getting a hard ab workout out of this.
"I'm sorry. We didn't mean to scare you," I said, wiping a tear off my face.
She just chuckled.
"It's fine. I'm sorry you had to witness that. Not exactly the way I wanted to meet you," she said, referring to Blake.
She smiled shyly and I raised an eyebrow.
I turned to look at Blake and found both of them looking at each other in an shy kind of way.
Oh em gee.
I smell loveeeeeee.
Forget about me even thinking about crushing on Blake, Blue and him would be so much better.
I'm so pairing them up.
"It's okay, watching that was pretty funny. Nice to meet you....?"
"Blue. My name's Blue," she said.
"Nice to meet you, Blue. I'm Blake," he replied, offering her a smile which she returned.
Frickadoodles. I ship it.
"Okay. Now that we've all met, who's ready to paint?" I asked excitedly.
"Let's go," Blue said, already beginning to walk towards my art studio.
"You paint?" Blake asked, already seeming more interested.
"Nah, I'm just an amateur. Nothing fancy. But since June does it all the time, I join her once in a while just for fun," she admitted, and Blake nodded.
"Gotcha."
As we walked back to my art studio, I realized I had used the last paint I had left two nights ago.
"Turns out I forgot I had no paint left," I said, smiling sheepishly.
"Dang, smart move," Blue mumbled, and I playfully slapped her arm.
"How about I go get some and you two stay here and chat for a while?" I said innocently, and Blake nodded in agreement, completely oblivious to the fact I was just trying to get them alone.
I smirked at Blue without Blake noticing and her eyes widened.
"Don't you dare." She mouthed.
"Thank me later." I mouthed back and winked at her, earning myself an an 'I hate you for doing this to me' look from her.
I quickly said goodbye and ran off before she could manage to escape from this.
I'm such a great friend, I know.
I drove myself to a paint store right next to the coffee shop and saw that Aiden was no longer there.
Wow.
I would've gotten some coffee now that he was gone, but sadly, I was full from the Starbucks we'd gotten a while ago. I guess it just wasn't the day to get myself a heavenly lavander coffee.
I walked inside the art store and instantly scrunched up my nose at the familiar smell of paint. That was a weird thing about me. I loved painting and art, but I didn't exactly love the smell of paint. Of course, I could deal with it, but I still didn't like it much. Its smell is just weird.
I asked the lady working there where the canvas paint was, seeing that the store had been rearranged and I no longer knew where things were located.
"In the back room, on the left," she said, and I thanked her before walking away.
As I walked in, my eyes widened.
Why do these things always happen to me?!
"Okay, now—Should I call the police and report a stalker? Or are you just trying to hit on me?" He asked, and I made a grossed out sound.
"You need to stop stealing my favorite places," I said, and he laughed.
"In case you hadn't noticed, I got here first," he pointed out, and I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Whatever," I mumbled.
I could feel his eyes on me but decided to ignore it and attempted to reach the green paint.
I got on my tippy toes but seemed my 5'3 height didn't want to cooperate.
"Need help there?" Aiden asked, and I shook my head.
I could do this on my own. Just a little more and I'd get it.
My hand slowly pulled on it and suddenly, I was finally able to reach it.
"Be careful or you'll-"
Just as he said that, the paint slipped off the shelve and fell onto the floor, splashing all over Aiden and I.
"Drop it," he finished saying.
My mouth was agape as I realized what had just happened.
I looked up at Aiden who just stood there with an amused look on his face.
Suddenly, my foot slipped on some paint, causing me to crash against another shelve and dropping several paints this time; once again, splashing all over us.
"Ow!" I yelled, and Aiden started laughing.
I looked at the room and noticed the paint was literally everywhere. Aiden's black shirt was now a combination of reds, yellows, greens, blues, and purples.
'I can't even imagine what I must look like right now,' I thought.
I suddenly felt another splash of paint hit my chest and I looked up to find Aiden's hand dripping paint.
He did not...
As if it were the logical thing to do, I grabbed some paint off the floor and threw it at his face.
"Why my face?!" He asked, wiping some of it off. "Oh, it's on," he said, an evil smirk playing on his lips, and I squealed like a hyena.
Well that's not very attractive.
"NOO!" I yelled, and before I knew it, we were both throwing paint at each other and laughing like little kids.
He threw some on my hair and I decided to do the same. I grabbed his hair and put paint all over it.
Oh yeah, how you like that?
Suddenly, we both lost our balance as we stood the the slippery floor and then fell down together. His whole body was on top of me and I was practically suffocating.
We both groaned, but still laughed a bit.
I quickly noticed how close our faces were and he then wiped some paint off my nose. I felt like I couldn't breathe, but I realized it wasn't because he was suffocating my tiny body but rather because of our closeness.
I got to get a really good look at his green eyes and noticed they had tiny specks of blue in them.
Woah, he's pretty freaking fine.
No. What am I thinking? This is Aiden Blackwood. Major player...I think. Doesn't appreciate soda bottle cap landscapes. Destroyed your sculpture and made it look like a rat.
Snap out of it.
"You done?" He whispered.
"Huh?" I replied, dumbly.
"You're hardcore checking me out babe," He replied, and I grunted.
Of course he'd say something like that.
"What happened in here?!" The lady who worked there barged in the room, her face showing nothing but terror.
Aiden and I quickly turned to look at her at the same time.
Oh no.
I quickly pushed Aiden off of me and stood up, managing to finally not slip.
"I can explain!" I said, and she just gave me a look.
"I don't want to hear it! Both of you get out of here now. And don't ever bother coming back!" She yelled, and we both quickly made our way out of the store, not even bothering to try and explain. It was pointless.
I stood outside the store and stared at myself in the window's reflection.
I had tons of blue and purple paint in my long brown hair, and a majority of green paint all over my face, somehow making my hazel eyes stand out. I was wearing my favorite shirt and sighed sadly when I noticed there was no way of getting all the paint off of it. It was hopeless.
"Well, looks like we cause trouble no matter where we go," Aiden said, popping out of nowhere, startling me.
"This is your fault. I'm banned from my favorite paint store and now I can't even go to my favorite coffee shop. If you hadn't started that paint fight they would've forgiven me at least," I rambled on angrily, and I saw a hint of guilt in his eyes for about half a second.
Suddenly, he frowned.
"Let me make it up to you," He offered, and I raised an eyebrow.
"...How?" I asked, genuinely interested in what his idea of 'making it up to me' was.
"Do you like fairs?" He asked.
"I guess, yeah," I said slowly, narrowing my eyes in confusion, and he smiled.
"Good. Then be ready at 7pm because I'm taking you to the fair," He said, and I gave him a skeptical look.
"There's a fair here?"
"Yep."
"But that doesn't fix any of the problems," I reminded him, and he just sighed.
"I know. But there's nothing I can do to unban us from the store and well, there's no way I'm ditching the coffee shop. So at least let me invite you to have a nice time since I've made your past 24 hours so miserable," He replied, and I was astonished at his honesty. I did not expect that.
I laughed in disbelief.
I couldn't believe it hadn't even been two days since we'd met and it had already gotten to this point.
"This is just your way of trying to get my address so you can stalk me," I said, referring to the comment he made earlier, and he chuckled.
"I guess your bad habits are starting to rub off on me." He winked.
"Haha, good one," I replied, my tone dripping with sarcasm, but for some reason, I couldn't stop a smile from making its way onto my face.
Someone please explain to me what is wrong with me.
One second I hate him and the next I'm accepting his invite to the fair.
Bipolar much?
--
When I got back to the apartment, I tried to not let Blake and Blue hear me. I could hear them laughing in her room and I didn't want to ruin my new otp's beautiful moment. Sadly, Blue caught me trying to sneak into my room.
"What happened to you?!" She asked worriedly, but I could tell she was trying to hold back a smile.
Amusement flashed across Blake's eyes when he saw me too and I laughed nervously.
"I guess I got too carried away with the whole paint thing?" I smiled, and they just shook their heads.
"Okay, now tell us what really happened. It looks like you just got puked on by a huge rainbow monster," She said, and I sighed in defeat.
I think this was all payback for leaving her alone with Blake.
"Well, let's just say leaving Aiden and I in a small room full of paint equals disaster," I said, and Blake raised his eyebrows before giving me smug look.
"And why were you with Aiden, again?" He teased, and I started shaking my head in disbelief but still let an amuse smile onto my face.
"Very long story. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go get washed up and ready," I mumbled and tried to sneak away, but Blue grabbed my arm.
"Ready? Ready for what?" She asked suspiciously.
"Uh, we're all going to the fair." I smiled innocently.
"What? Why?"
"Aiden's picking us up," I quickly said and ran off into the bathroom.
"You better explain this soon!" Blue yelled from the other side of the door and I could hear Blake laughing.
"Never!" I replied playfully and began laughing.
Oh goodness, what did I just get myself into?
--
"Okay, well, we need to get you all dolled up, but not make you look too good because you can't make him think you're trying," Blue said, grabbing my straightener and connecting it onto the electric outlet on the wall. I gave her a weirded out look and stood up to take the straightener away from her.
"What? No. This is Aiden. I don't like him," I clarified, and she scoffed.
"Oh please, from what I've heard, he's hot. And if you hated him as much as you think and say you do then you would've never accepted his offer," she reasoned, and I just stared at her.
Maybe she's right but I can't let her know that.
"Okay look, he seemed really sorry so I did it just to get all this stuff out of the way. After this, I'll start over fresh and won't have to worry about it anymore. He will be forgotten," I said confidently and smiled because I actually liked the sound of that.
That meant Aiden and I would leave all problems behind and I could once again focus on the true meaning of that art course.
"Yeah, no. I know you won't be able to get him out of your head and then you'll both fall in love and get married and have beautiful children," she said, and I laughed at my best friend's unrealistic scenario.
"Keep dreaming, you fool. He's got like 20 girlfriends. Not my type of dude," I stated the obvious, but she didn't let the smile leave her face.
"But how many of those get invited to the fair?" She told me, wiggling her eyebrows at me, her grin widening.
"How is that even relevant?"
"Because as far as we know, he takes all of them on the same date: coffee shop," she said, and I bit my lip.
"We don't know anything about him!" I reminded her, and she pointed a finger up in the air.
"Exactly! For all we know, those girls are his cousins," she said, and I gave her a skeptical look.
"No, but whatever. I can't focus on guys. I need to win that art course," I said, and she sighed.
"Fine, whatever, you party pooper."
A second later, Blake walked in the room and sat on my bed.
"Ladies, our ride is here."
Suddenly my stomach turned into a knot.
Maybe this wasn't such a good idea. What if Blue's right?
Nah. It's not even a date. And I don't like him.
He's annoying, remember?
Just stop being a wimp. Man up.
Or...woman up.
"You look like you're about to pass out." Blake laughed.
"We don't have to do it if you don't want to. We can lie and say all the paint smell made you sick or-" Blue began to say, but I stopped her and I shook my head.
"No. I can do this. I'm not a wimp," I said, rolling my eyes at her before giving her a curt nod and a confident look
"Alright people, let's do this," she announced as if we were on some kind of serious mission, and we all made our way out.
God, please help me get through this.
