(Y/n) stood outside the (l/n) family compound a dark cloud hung over her head her she held a hand over her cracked rib a vacant expression on her bruised face she stared into empty space a pair of burgundy eyes lingered on her mind, (y/n) felt like an unbearable weight had been placed on her chest.

"Where have you been?" Her grandmother greeted her in a harsh tone as she stepped through the compound gates her grandmother sat on the front porch, her wrinkled face scrunched up in a look of disappointment her frail hands rested on top of her wooden cane.

The old lady waited for an answer from her grand daughter as she tapped her foot impatiently "I-I" (y/n) choked out collapsing to her knees sobbing with a hand held over her heart, her grandmothers cold eyes softened as she pulled her frail body off the porch using her cane to make her way over to her grand daughter placing a reassuring hand on her back.

"Did something happen with the Kamado boy?" She asked in a soft caring voice cocking an eyebrow "if so just tell me and I'll beat him with my cane." She said half heartedly her hand rubbing soothing circles on her backs, "T-they're dead!" (Y/n) cried clutching her grandmother's kimono lady (y/n) dropped her cane kneeling down.

"What who's dead!?" She replied clutching her grand daughters shoulders firmly making eye contact with her grieving grand daughter "The Kamado family!" She hiccuped her tear stained face was lightly bruised from the commotion that took place in the forest, lady (y/n) noticed her grand daughter cradling her side she gently examined her grand daughters torso with her hand.

Other than a cracked rib (y/n) had minor bruising and light scratches the elderly woman lifted her grand daughter up gently placing (y/n) arm around her shoulder leading her into the house careful to not drop her, lady (y/n) excused herself for a moment as she searched for a medical kit (y/n) sat there in the silence her vacant eyes surveying the dark room carefully.

Before staring at her palms remembering the warmth she felt from the eldest Kamado sons hands fondly "tell me everything." Her grandmothers said bringing her back to reality, (Y/n) wiped her eyes with the dirty sleeve of her kimono her puffy red eyes stared out the window vacantly she wondered where they are now she wondered if they were safe.

(Y/n) felt safe confiding in her grandmother she inhaled a deep breath staring into the old lady's eyes as she carefully began to explain the events that took place sparing no detail.

The two (l/n) women sat in an eery silence (y/n) watched lady (l/ n) light her wooden pipe the old lady took a puff from her pipe blowing out a ring of smoke "I feared something like this may happen." her grandmother said, (y/n) carefully studied her grandmothers moon lit face she wore a stoic expression masking any emotion from the human eye.

"What do you mean." (Y/n) asked cocking a curious eyebrow watching as her grandmother began to lay out the contents of the medical kit carefully she also placed down a clean kimono "Our family has been hunted by demons for generations." (Y/n) felt her blood run cold she felt like she had been punched in the gut, "So you're saying that the demon who killed the Kamado family came here for us?" Her grandmother shook her head as she rubbed a cloth in alcohol cleaning her grand daughters scratches.

"Not us, you." She replied nonchalantly using a wet cloth to clean the dry blood off her grand daughters (s/t) face (y/n) stared at her grandmother a mix of horror and guilt on her face, "W-why me!?" she choked out grabbing her grandmothers kimono a desperate look on her face the old lady sighed.

"Because you're blessed though many in our family would call what you have a curse." Lady (l/n) replied as she carefully helped her grand daughter undress bandaging up her torso, (y/n) hissed in pain as her grandmother applied the bandages she relaxed as the old lady used a warm cloth to clean off any dirt or blood off her skin.

Her grandmother held a clean kimono in her hand with tender care she helped (y/n) into the fresh kimono that held a faint scent of lavender  "Our family comes from a long line of hashiras." the girl perked up glancing at her grandmother with a curious expression, "The hashiras are a group of elite demon slayers who aim to eradicate demon kind." She explained grabbing a pair of scissors.

"One of your ancestors believed the best way to fight demons was to hone in on the abilities that made them so powerful." The elderly lady paused a solemn expression on her face as she began cutting her grand daughters hair removing the uneven ends evening out her hair, "He experimented with demon blood he thought he could concentrate it just enough so that a human could harness the abilities of demons without becoming a demon."

(Y/n) listened with a horrified expression her (e/c) eyes wide as she stared at the palm of her hands colour draining from her skin "How he did it is still a mystery but he was successful in harnessing the abilities of demons their speed, strength and healing." Her grandmother let out a long sigh, "He tested it on himself that demon blood has been passed on generation after generation through our blood line."

"Only a few possess it." Her grandmother paused brushing a comb through her hair (y/n) glanced over her shoulder staring into her grandmothers eyes, "What does this have to do with me." Lady (l/n) hesitated before answering "You possess the demon blood that's why the demon appeared." (Y/n) felt faint as she heard those words.

"How do you know?" She replied through gritted teeth her nails digging into the palm of her hands "when you were a child you had an accident it left a wound that should have taken months to heal it faded in a few short days." (Y/n) stumbled her back hitting the wall behind her as she slumped down sitting in the corner of the room.

"After your mother died your father prayed that you would have a normal life but it seems your destiny can't be avoided." Her grandmother said sitting next to her on the floor (y/n) looked at her through glassy eyes, "In the morning we are leaving." Lady (l/n) said sliding her hand in her grand daughters palm giving it a reassuring squeeze.

"Where are we going?" (Y/n) replied holding her grandmothers hand resting her head on her shoulder "The lotus temple." Her grandmother said resting her head on hers "In my hay day I was a lotus dancer." (Y/n) cocked an eyebrow glancing up at her grandmother.

"Lotus dancers are swordsman who wield a unique technique referred to as the dancing lotus breath." Her grand mother said pulling her sleeve down to reveal a lotus tattoo

"This is the mark of the lotus dancer through vigorous training I earned mine,  the time has come for you to earn yours." (Y/n) perked up she looked at her grandmother with wide eyes "me?" She replied hesitantly.

"The demon blood flows through your veins as long as it does demons will hunt you and the ones you love down." Lady (y/n) said patting her grand daughters head reassuringly "it is time for you to follow in the foot steps of your ancestors and join the battle against demon kind." Her grandmother said standing up taking another puff of her pipe.

(Y/n) paused lowering her head staring at the ground with a vacant look in her eyes "The Kamado boy will be joining the demon slayer corps Incase you need another incentive." Her grandmother said  as she lit a candle walking down a dark corridor.

"We leave at sunrise demons can't step out into sunlight." She said in an eery tone disappearing into dark corridor (Y/n) sat there silently in the darkness as she processed the events she began to feel faint again "I should prepare to depart at sunrise."she said absently to herself she decided to use this opportunity to become strong.

She will utilise the curse handed down to her from her family blood line (y/n) ground her teeth together as she felt anger wash over her she would avenge the Kamado family to atone for their death that laid on her hands, If she hadn't been apart of their lives the demon searching for her may have never found them she would seek justice for their death and slay the beast that slaughtered them.

(Y/n) stood up her eyes locked on her family sword that was displayed on the mantle of the fireplace she inhaled a deep breath removing it with care, she carefully unsheathed the sword holding it up in a defensive stance she thought back to her kendo classes carefully swinging the sword her movements were sloppy and slow but could be improved.

(Y/n) paused lowering her sword she carefully slid it back into her sheath she channeled her heart break, guilt and remorse allowing it to fuel the flame that burned deep inside her igniting a sense of determination.
