It was the year 1981

In the city of Portland, Oregon

A new arcade game showed up in the arcade

Called Polybius

It was odd, with no side pictures

Blank, mysterious

With only the game title

Many played it as it became popular

And I was one of them

I didn't realize what it actually was. I had played it one day with my best friend. I was fine but he had a seizure as he played and it had been too late once the ambulance arrived. I watched him die in front of my eyes because of some game. They couldn't have put a warning on it? I played it more since it gained my curiosity. The more I played I started noticing how words would pop up on the screen here and there. They were always too fast and I could never read them but after a while, of me spending nearly day and night playing it I made out some of the phrases that would pop up.

"Stay asleep"

"No ideas"

"Do not question authority"

"Surrender"

It was odd and I didn't understand what they meant

A month later the machine disappeared

Like it never even existed

There was no trace left of it

I was determined to figure out what was happening

And found out that one of the games appeared in an arcade a few miles away

They started popping up in more and more places

I kept hearing more and more deaths related to them

I needed to warn everyone I could of the game

Because it was deadly

And not just a fun game

The way games were supposed to be

I, along with my friends

And others who witnessed the games harm

Need to make sure no one else falls victim to it

Falls victim to the government

But there is one question

Stuck on my mind

That I will work to find out also

Is my best friend actually dead?
