Chapter 6: Dinner~

Y/N's POV

I was just...you know...eating cake when it arrived.

I grabbed my leftover (favorite flavor cake) cake from my birthday from the pantry and a fork from the drawer and sat down on the couch with it.

Putting the chunks of cake in my mouth, I savored the flavor. I even let my mind wander a bit.

But my thoughts and cake-eating session was interrupted by a gentle knock on the door.

I groaned aloud and went to go answer the door, mentally cursing at the person who ruined my snack.
   I reluctantly opened the door.

"What?" I snapped.

"I was pretty stunned to see that no one was there. I looked around, my indignation replaced with confusion. Finally, my eyes landed on the doorstep below me, and there was a letter.

Eyebrow arched, I picked it up, fiddling with it.

It read,

Dearest Y/N,

I still feel bad for how I acted a few weeks ago. So, as a make-up gift, I was wondering if you wanted to join me for dinner at a fancy restaurant at 8:00. Just pop over when you're ready.

Seriously, I'm really sorry for how I acted. The situation wasn't even a big deal. Hope to see you tonight!

Love, T.Jeff

I smiled to myself, hugging the letter close to my chest. I was pumped for that night. I also thought it was funny how he kept wavering between two topics.

The rest of the day went by in a blur of staring at the clock and eating food.

********time skip brought to you by Thomas, the fluffy mushroom*********

The time was 6:30, and I was desperately searching for a nice dress to wear, not having much success.

T-shirt, emerald green coat, a poncho, (??,) and an ugly as hell blouse.

Finally, at the way back of my closet, there was a stunning dress that I never knew I had. It looked like this:

"Hell yes!" I said aloud, taking it out of my closet.

Slipping it on, I wondered where we were going. Thomas had only said "a fancy restaurant". A few ideas came to mind:

Ma Cherie's Restaurant?

Virginian Variety?

By that time, my dress was fully on my body. I looked in the mirror, and I looked nice. The dress wasn't too heavy, it was modest; everything I would want in a dress.

I threw my hair into a nice French braid (Lafayette would be proud. XD) and did my makeup.

I stole a look at the clock.

7:45.

"Oh frick," I muttered as I rushed out of my room and out of my house/mansion.

With a nervous fist, I knocked on the door of Monticello.

Thomas immediately opened it; it seemed like he had been ready for a while. He was wearing a very nice tux, which made me blush immensely.

"Hey, Y/N!" he greeted cheerily. "You ready?"

Then he looked down at my outfit, then back at my face, a stunned expression on his face. He seemed at a loss for words.

"Y-you look stunning, darlin'," he stuttered, a smile crossing his lips.

His words made me blush even more. "Th-thanks, Thomas."

My eyes moved down to his tux and back at his face. "You look like the handsomest man I've ever seen."

I mentally face-palmed. That was a stupid thing to say to a guy.

I was shocked when I saw Thomas blush as red as a rose. "Well, thanks, Y/N..,"

His grip on his orbed cane tightened as he reached one hand out to me. "Shall we?"

I nodded. "We shall."

I took his hand and we walked to his carriage like that.

As we sat down, I noticed that he still didn't let go of my hand.

I didn't mind, though.

We rode in silence. Not so much awkward silence, but more contented silence. And, if you're wondering, our hands were still intertwined.

After a 6 minute ride, Thomas turned to me and smiled. "We're here, hun."

I smiled back at him as we got out of the carriage.

Ooh, it was Virginian Variety.

***

After a bit, we had finally gotten a table, which was right next to the window. It was summer, so we still had the blessing of seeing the sunset.

Thomas pulled out a chair for me, and I uttered a shy "thank you", sitting down.

Thomas had also sat down, but I was too preoccupied with the sunset to realize. Until a chuckle snapped me out of my trance.

"Like sunsets, huh?"

My head whipped to Fluffy Mushroom. "Oh...yeah," I said shyly, blushing a bit from embarrassment. Like, my crush was just watching me doze off at something that happens every day. "They're really pretty."

His brown eyes burned into my e/c ones. After a bit of silence he said, "Just like you."

I could feel even more heat rising up to my cheeks. "Thank you."

That's when the waiter came up to us, dressed in a fancy suit. "Hello, lovebirds. What may I get you today?" The man had dark skin, black hair, and a vibrant smile.

Thomas seemed to know him, for his face lit up. He immediately got up to hug the man.

They stayed like that for a while, so I cleared my throat as a reminder that I was currently present in the same building they were.

Thomas' head whipped to look at me, smiling. "Oh! Y/N! This is James. James Madison. He's one of my very good friends!"

(OK SINCE HAMMIE AND JEFFY ARE IN VIRGINIA SO IS MADISON.)

James flashed me a smile, offering his hand.

   I took it, smiling back. "What's up, Mr. Madison? I'm Y/N. Thomas'...friend?"

James kissed my hand. Ugh, those two already had a lot in common. "No need for an introduction from you, ma'am. Thomas has told me quite a lot about you."

Thomas stared at James with a look that could murder someone. I couldn't tell if it was for kissing my hand or telling me that he told him a lot about me. Probably both.

James caught on, and got out his pad thingy. "Now, what'll it be, you two?"

Thomas mumbled something about him having a pound James in the face.

"What was that?" I asked, laughing.

   "Nothing..."

   "Um, can I have a f/d and a f/f please?" I politely asked James.

He nodded, writing down the information and looking at Thomas. "And for you, sir?" He emphasized the word "sir" in a joking, "haha lol I already know you" type of way.

"Iced tea and some macaroni and cheese would be nice, sir," Thomas replied, also emphasizing "sir".

Faint scratching could be heard as James wrote down the information once more.

I gave Thomas a look that basically shouted "mac and cheese again?" And he gave me a look that said "hell yeah I like mac and cheese and will eat it when I desire just watch me".

James smiled at us. "All right, you two. I'll be back with your drinks shortly."

Then he was off.

"So, tell me about you," I said to Thomas, my e/c eyes burning into his chocolate brown ones.

Thomas raised an eyebrow. "What would you like to know?"

"Anything," I responded. "Like, where you grew up, your childhood. Anything."

He thought for a moment, but then responded. "Well, when I was a kid, I was always the odd one out. I didn't really have any friends. But then I met James, and my life really turned around. Especially when I met you many years later."

I laughed. "Well that was cheesy."

"Hey, you wanted my backstory! That's my backstory!"

Then James came back with our food and such. He placed it on the table with a smile on his face. "Enjoy, lovebirds," he smirked, winking.

"James!" Thomas shouted after him, a whiny tone hugging his voice. "We've talked about this!"

   But James just kept walking.

I took a bite of my food and savored the delicate flavor.

The rest of the night was spent by me and Thomas talking and eating.

When he walked me up to my house, I turned to face him and smiled. "Thanks, Thomas."

He returned the smile, progressively leaning towards me. He took my shoulder and gently pushed me back against the door.

We shared a kiss that night. Our lips moved in sync as happiness swelled inside of me.

But little did I know that a protective dad was watching from the window.
