"BB-8 wait up!"

The droid chose not to slow down, instead letting out a few beeps of annoyance. Rey rolled her eyes, following the insistent droid across the sand.

BB-8 seemed to be in some sort of a rush, letting out some beeps before speeding up ahead of her. Eventually the droid stopped, still a few feet ahead of Rey.

"Okay,okay. I'm coming BB."

She increased her pace, ending up beside the small droid.

"This better be important..." Rey muttered before her eyes scanned forward at the horizon.

A few feet ahead lay a person, they looked to be dead or at least close to it. Tightening the grip on her staff Rey walked forward.

It was a man. He laid spread out on the sand, the particles sprinkled
throughout his hair and on his face.

She stepped forward carefully, poking him in the side with her staff. The man stirred slightly but didn't seem to wake. Rey went in to poke him again but this time the response was different. His hand had quickly reached out to grab at it before it hit his side. He looked up at her, narrowing his eyes.

"W-who are you?"

"Ben."

Rey nodded slightly, grabbing at the staff to release it from his grip.

"And you?"

"I'm Rey."

"I see, where are you from?"

"That's classified information my friend, are you lost? Just keep walking North and civilization should be that way. I should be going."

Rey turned around followed by BB-8 and the two started to walk away.

"Wait!"

She turned back around.

"Yes?"

"May I stay the night?"

"Why would I let you do that?"

"The thing is I am lost, and I don't know where to go."

"What do you mean?"

Rey crossed her arms.

"I don't know how I got here." He replied lying through his teeth.

The reply seemed to have struck a cord in Rey then prompting her eyes to soften.

"One night, that's it."

"Thank you." Ben breathed out before getting up to follow the duo. The walk back was silent, neither of them wanted to talk and Ben's focus was mainly on getting the grains of sand out of his hair. Which proved to be quite a challenge.

"I see you're having some trouble there." Rey laughed as they arrived at an abandoned AT-AT.

"I guess so, why is there so much sand?"

He rubbed at his head again in an attempt to clean his hair.

"That's not going to work, you know."

"Do you have a better way?"

"We could go to the town showers tomorrow if you want?"

Ben winced for a moment at the thought of using a public bathroom but shrugged the feeling off before Rey could take notice.

"Sounds good. Anything to get this sand off."

She nodded beckoning to the door.

"Well I suggest you go inside with BB-8. I'll be right back."

"Where are you going?"

"Don't worry about it."

He shrugged and watched as the girl walked towards the small speeder located near the shelter. She got on quickly and vanished off into the setting sun.

"This will be easier than I thought." Ben muttered under his breath. Careful to not let Rey's curious droid hear.

Ducking down he walked inside. It was quite cozy despite being an old machine used in war. There was a small mat set up for sleeping as well as a stove and a shelf with some clothes. What caught his attention were the thousands if not millions of lines scratched against the wall. They were some sort of intriguing to him and he thought about asking her when she came back. And that's what happened a few moments later.

"I'm here!"

Ben poked his head outside, watching as Rey got down from the speeder with several parcels in hand.

"Here."

She went to him and handed him a folded rectangle.

"What's this?"

"Clothing."

"Thank you."

He managed to smile at her.

"I'm sorry if they aren't that good. You're probably used to better quality based on what you're wearing but it's Jakku. This is basically a junkyard. I mean I tried, I did. I'm —"

"Don't worry about it, they're perfectly fine."

A sigh of relief escaped from Rey's lips.

"Here I'll step inside for a moment and you could get changed, just call me when you're done."

Ben nodded watching as she and the droid stepped out of the AT-AT. He looked down at the clothing in his arms, unintentionally touched by the gesture. As Ben got dressed he thought of the mission and getting the girl to Poe.

Hopefully it'll all work out well, he didn't want to stay much longer in this sandy dump.

"Are you done?"

"Yeah."

Rey soon came back into view holding some packets in her hand.

"I have some portions for us to eat."

He nodded watching her get to work on preparing the food.

"Thank you once again."

"For what?"

"Taking me in for the night."

Rey continued to heat up the food.

"It was no problem, I know how it feels to be left behind..."

Ben didn't say anything, instead choosing to listen as she continued.

"My family, they'll be back. And they'll come get me from this place and this war. Oh this blasted war!"

"Has the war hit Jakku badly?"

"Only one part, there was an attack years ago by Starkiller."

"I see..."

"They probably attacked us to test out the strength of their newest weapon."

Ben's stomach dropped for a moment.

"Kylo Ren. Yeah, it was him. He's pretty feared in these parts..."

She continued to work at the food. Eventually placing it on two plates.

"Well dinner is ready," Rey handed one of the plates to him. "Come, let's eat outside."

Nodding Ben followed her out. The sun hasn't set completely yet. But it had moved down the horizon, casting shades of red and yellow across the sky.

"It's beautiful out here."

"Yeah, one of the only beauties Jakku holds, is its sunsets."

He simply nodded, and the two ate silently, basking in the beauty of the setting sun.

Later that night Ben waited until Rey had fallen asleep and the droid had turned off for the night. He looked around before landing on the rumpled pile of clothing in the corner. Picking it up, he searched through the pockets to find it. Finally his hand had touched metal, he smirked victoriously.

"Hux I meet the girl."

"Good, very good. Anything else?"

"She seems to trust me at the moment, this'll be easy. Soon enough we will have the map in our hands."

"Good, go get some sleep you'll need it for tomorrow."

He didn't bother to respond, instead turning it off and slipping it back into his clothing pocket. Then he headed towards the mat that Rey had set up for him, laying down and going to sleep, acting as if nothing had happened.
