[7] Game of Kings and Queens

Four updates I-
Reader POV
I smiled as Vanessa told me stories of the time before our mother became obsessed with our magic.
According to Vanessa, she was very happy as a child.
"Hey, Vanessa?" I asked.
"Hm?"
"Do you ever wonder about soulmates?"
She shrugged. "I guess. I mean, I know you have your soulmate. The threads only appear when you've made contact with him or her."
"Him. I'm not too fond of him," I sheepishly smiled. "I guess it makes sense that you can see it since you have fate magic."
From what I could tell, she really missed it when our mother wasn't some magic-obsessed woman with a knack for keeping us captive fo the sole purpose of using our magic and controlling our minds.
The queen tried to use her blood magic on me, but I repelled her spell with my own.
Before we could discuss further, a huge blast of metal and dark magic hit the walls of the castle.
"Oi!" I recognized that voice.
"Yami Sukehiro!"
"Not just him," It was Captain Nozel!
"Are you two just going to sit there like ducks? Let's go!"
Vanessa looked scared to go. "(y/n)..." she held my hand with wide eyes.
"Come, little sister." I guided her out of the cage and let her climb out first. She landed in Yami's arms with a huge blush.
"Just where do you think you are taking my children?" Witch Queen was furious. "My eldest has been taken from me once. Not again!"
I peered into her mind, my eyes glowing white as I saw what she saw.
Witch Queen's Memories
I watched through the eyes of a bird everything.
How my mother fell in love with my father, a guy who saved her from a hurricane storm with his fire magic, warding off the Diamond generals who tried to seize control of her forest.
She hated him at first but he had fallen in love.
She could see their soulmate strings and decided what the hell, let's just get this over with.
I watched their small wedding that no other witch attended except the officiator, but then tragedy stuck.
My father's siblings attacked House Grinberryal, the heir to the Spade kingdom brought to the church in Hage.
My hands flew to my mouth as I heard his name.
Prince Yuno.
My father ended up dying, protecting the witches forest from being obliterated by the Dark Triad.
Overcome with grief, the witch queen tasked my mother Clarisse to bring my brother and I to the Clover Kingdom, telling her to erase her memories and ours.
"Are you sure?" Clarisse asked as she held the two children close. "I couldn't ever bring myself to hate you."
"You must," the queen said. "It is the only way to save them-to save you."
Clarisse nodded, erasing her memory and replacing it with an event that never happened.
The queen watched with sadness as Clarisse disappeared into the night sky, determined to get out.
End of mirage
I placed my hand on my forehead, my mind going insane. "What the hell...?"
"Do you understand now?" The queen said. "I have brought you back to-"
"I understand, Mother, but I don't understand your need to keep Vanessa and I trapped in that cage,"
"I-"
"Nope, we're leaving." I hopped onto the silver eagle, glaring at her.
"You will return some day," she said. "And when you do..." she looked down, her eyes filled with tears. "I will be waiting. I won't live forever, (y/n). I need you to take over the witches forest when I am gone."
I glared at her. "Oh, we'll be back, Mother. But when we come back, we won't be the same."
Nozel handed my clothing and grimoire. "I stole these from the cell where they were kept. I figured you'd want it back,"
I nodded and used my magic to keep it somewhere else. My grimoire floated in the air as I climbed onto his silver eagle.
"You'll definitely be back," Witch Queen frowned, her eyes no longer red or wet, allowing us to leave. "You'll bring a gift with you next time. The future foretells of it."
Dorthy was outside, protecting us from the witches that didn't like the idea of the two Witch Princesses leaving once again. "Let's get out of here, Silva!"
Nozel used his magic to his silver eagle that flew out of there at top speeds.

"It's good that you are back safe," Julius said with a content smile. "And it seems you've gotten a wardrobe change. I like it,"
"I like the witches hat," Dorthy complimented.
"It's to remind me of who I really am," I said.
My adoptive mother apologized, but I knew why she did it. It was to protect me.
She informed me of the truth and that my brother was indeed alive, but she didn't know where.
But she didn't know I already knew.
"You look wonderful," Charlotte hugged me tightly before bonking me on the head. "How dare you make me worry about you, (y/n)! You're my Vice-Captain! I never want to replace you, so don't go claiming thrones!"
"I didn't-"
I sighed, seeing that there was no arguing with the worrisome blonde.
"What about Vanessa?" Nozel asked with a frown. "Where will she go?"
"I want to stay with Yami," she said.
I smirked. "Oh? Does my little sister have a crush?"
"No," She said with an embarrassed smile.
I frowned. I knew that Yami and Charlotte were soulmates- even if they didn't know themselves.
Vanessa also knew, but she wouldn't give him up.
The meeting ended with satisfied smiles.
Nozel looked like he wanted to talk to me, so Charlotte allowed. She said to be back soon since the rest of the squad was going to celebrate my return.
We walked around the bay area.
Nozel was extremely protective of me ever since we got back. "If you think I'm going to allow you to leave the kingdom without me or anyone else in the magic knights, you're crazy!"
"Thanks for rescuing me," I mumbled. "I wasn't strong enough to escape, no matter how much magic I used."
"No shit," he said. "Yami, Dorthy, and I had to combine an attack to break the cage."
I sighed and hugged him suddenly, causing him to stiffen. "You know, you aren't so bad."
He relaxed after a while and returned the hug, leaning down to bury his face in my (h/c) hair.
"Yeah, whatever. I just don't want my soulmate trapped somewhere she doesn't want to me."
"Valid point, dear Silva."
Nozel stared at me, moving backwards. "I'm sorry. For the way I treated you when we first met."
I shrugged. "Does it matter now? Though I appreciate the apology."
"So...are we good?"
"Maybe, maybe not." I hopped on my broom, fixing my cloak. "That's for you to determine. Prove yourself to me and we're good."

"(Y/N)!!!" Shino attacked me with a hug, half-sobbing, half-joys. "You're alive!!!"
I smiled and hugged the orange-haired enthusiast. "I was never dead, you dumbass."
"It's good to have you back," Puli sighed in relief. "Charlotte put me in charge as vice-captain while you were gone. How do you do it every day?! That's so much work!"
I shrugged. "I got used to it after a while."
Sol lifted her cup. "To the return of (y/n) Kyoska; Princess of Witches!"
We celebrated way into the night, laughing about everything.
Charlotte went to bed early since she spent four nights awake, wondering where her vice-captain was.
The blonde wouldn't admit it verbally, but she was very glad I was home safe.
Nozel POV
I looked up at the stars. Polaris, more than usual, was shining brighter and brighter as each day passed.
"Nozel!" I looked behind me to see Solid running towards me.
"What is it?"
"Is it true?" He demanded. "Is your soulmate some lowly peasant scum who turned out to be the Witch Princess?"
I nodded, irritated. "Yes."
"But how can you see the thread? I read Witch Lore. Only witches with fate or blood magic can see it!"
I shrugged. "If I knew, I would tell you, Solid. What are you doing out here? You should be sleeping."
"I'm not so little anymore," he scowled. "When are you going to introduce her to us? I want to meet this witch."
"Whenever I can. But not now," I said. "She's busy with her duties as vice-captain of the Blue Rose Knights as I am as captain of the Silver Eagles. Go to bed."
He did as he was told, only for Nebra to join me outside.
"Do you love her, Nozel?" Nebra asked.
I looked at her. "Why are you asking?"
"I guess I've come to accept her as your soulmate- even though I'm not too fond of her. You can't exactly change fate so easily." Nebra looked up at the sky.
I shook my head. "You're so weird, Nebra. One minute you hate her guts, the next you are somewhat civil."
"You're the same," Nebra said. "But answer the question. Do you love her?"
I gave her my response and she walked back inside with a frown.
"Just make sure you don't ruin your image as the head of House Silva," she warned.
"And make sure you remember that I am your older brother and captain. Go inside and don't bother me for the rest of the night."
Nebra did as she was told.
I glanced at the horizon in the direction where the Blue Rose Knights base was.
(y/n) was so close yet so far.
I knew that she was also looking at Polaris.
After all, we both had a love of stargazing.
I sighed and closed my eyes, basking in the starlight.
"I've got myself a witch as a soulmate. What the hell is up with Fate?"
