Money is scarce or worthless, slot and fruit machines, glittery casinos,

Malnutrition and hunger, takeaways and all you can eat buffets,

Mud huts and homelessness, penthouses and three, four, five bedroom semis,

Two mile walk to a well, log flumes and water parks,

Dry baron earth, sun bed and fake tan,

Corruption, rival gangs and dictatorships, NHS, welfare, democracy.

These comparisons simply shouldn't be,

But such polar opposites are The Third World and Western society,

It seems impossible to put right, a world so broken,

Can't be treated with a simple gesture, fixed with a careless token,

Giving money, fundraising, politics, there is no secret key,

But maybe a good start is beginning to treat strangers like your family,

Through various ways raising awareness,

And in our everyday lives, showing a little fairness,

Why our world is so unequal and unjust is a mystery,

May always be and has been throughout history,

But by being more considerate and opening our eyes, the world might have scope,

A fighting chance, a reason for The Third World to have hope.
