Chapter 2 - Ruins

Frisk's P.O.V

It's over...

I'm dead...

I would never hurt anyone anymore now that was my life is ended...

But wait... why am I breathing?

I can't feel my body moving but yet I'm still breathing...

I tried to move my paws but don't respond...

I tried moving my back legs - paralyzed...

I stirred a little and slowly open my eyes to see my face in contact with the ground. I slowly and carefully pull myself up from my lying position and sitting up on my back legs, a sharp pain slice through my brain. 'Oww...' I winced, rubbing my paw behind my head to soothe the sore from my fall. I looked up and saw the hole I fell in and as I looked down, there are lots of golden flowers underneath me.

"Great, I'm not dead yet," I grumbled softly. "Wait, is this cave suppose to have monsters here?" I looked at my surroundings and saw nothing, not even a single hungry beast here. I sighed, guessing my suicide will have to wait so I stood up on my fours and walked through the dark caverns until I came across a very dark room where only a single beam of light shines down on a small patch of grass. In the center of the patch was a yellow sunflower Pokémon with a happy face.

"Howdy! I'm Flowey, Flowey the Sunflora!" The Sunflora greeted happily, "Hmm..." The Grass-type Pokemon looked at me before continuing with curiosity, "You're new to the UNDERGROUND, aren't cha?"

"Ahh... maybe," I replied.

"Golly, you must be so confused," Flowey reassured, with a little concern in his voice. I respond with a nod. "Someone ought to teach you how things work around here! I guess little old me will have to do." Flowey rambled on. "Ready? Here we go!"

After that, I felt something pounding in my chest. I placed my paw on it and looked down to see a glowing light illuminated through my furry chest. It slowly came out of my chest, and hovering in front of me was my heart, glowing red. Red that represents passion, love, and determination.

"See that heart? That is your SOUL, the very culmination of your being!" Flowey explained, "Your SOUL starts off weak, but can grow strong if you gain a lot of LV."

"What's LV stand for?" I asked.

"Hmm? What's LV stand for?" Flowey repeated, before answering kindly "Why, LOVE, of course!"

"Oh."

"You want some LOVE, don't you?" The Sunflora offered, "Don't worry, I'll share some with you!" He gave me a wink with his fake smile. Then, yellow flower petals came out from his center and circled around him. "Down here, LOVE is shared through... Little yellow... "friendliness pellets."

"friendliness pellets?" I thought, narrowing my eyebrows in confusion.

"Are you ready? Move around! Get as many as you can!" He sent scatters of petals towards me. I reached out to touch them but with a blink of an eye, the petals slice through me quickly leaving cuts on my furry body. I screamed out in pain and I collapsed on the ground, gripping myself to resist the pain I've received. I looked down to see red bleeding out from my wounds and soaked. I felt tears welling up in my round eyes from the stinging sensation.

"You idiot." I looked up and saw a horrifying demonic face on Flowey, giving me the creeps. "In this world, it's catch or BE catched."

"You monster!" I shouted angrily yet my voice is still weak.

"Hmph, why would ANYONE pass up an opportunity like this!?" He grimaced. He circled around me with 'bullet' petals (called Petal Dance) sharper than ever, knowing this is the end for me. "DIE!" He exclaimed, unleashing them laughing maniacally as the petals grew closer to me.

"Please, someone help me!" I cried out, as the petals came very close. The blades scratch against my skin but soon, they're disappeared and my wounds were healed. "Huh?" I looked around and saw an Energy Ball coming into my view that soared across and knocked Flowey off his roots, sending him flying beyond the ruins.

"Who did that?" I asked, searching around to find out where that Energy Ball came from. Then I hear hooves clopping and echoing throughout the ruins and saw a tall Goat Pokemon in a purple cloak coming towards me.

"What a terrible creature, torturing such a poor, innocent youth..." The Goat Pokemon spoke gently and I backed away from that Pokémon, afraid that this Pokémon wants to hurt me just like what Flowey did. She took notice of me getting scared, "Ah, do not be afraid, my dear child. I'm here to help you."

"Who are you?" I asked nervously.

"I am Toriel, caretaker of the RUINS." She introduced calmly, "I pass through this place every day to see if anyone has fallen down."

"Nice to meet you, my name is Frisk." I introduced.

"So, you are the first Pokémon to come here in a long time." Toriel beamed, and then she extends one green vine from behind her back and holds out like a hand. "Come! I will guide you through the catacombs." I stared at her vine for a moment and then back at her, should I trust her? Well, she seems harmless to me so I'll give it a shot. After making my decision, I reached out my paw and grab the vine, "This way, my child." She dragged me and I followed her through the catacombs of the RUINS.

(Timeskip)

After a long journey through the RUINS, Toriel leads me to the end of the RUINS which appears to be a small cottage. "Welcome to your new home, my child." Toriel announced, "You will be staying here with me and we can do lots of things together. Please, let us head inside." She took me inside and everything inside the house was very neat and tidy.

"Wow, it looks lovely." I complimented.

"Why thank you, my child." She replied with a smile, feeling happy with my compliment "Now, why not I show you to your room, hmm?" I nodded to her, and she leads me to the first door, "Here, this is your room. I hope you like it." She smiled down at me, and use her vine to stroke my hair, "Now, how about I help you get comfortable in here since this is your first time here?" I nodded again and she leads me to the dining and living room with a fireplace, a bookshelf, a futon armchair, and a dining table. "Here, have a seat." She instructed towards one of the seats at the table. I paced across and leap into a chair before sitting down as she told me. Toriel grabbed a hairbrush and approached beside me to brush my hair, "Dear me, your hair is awfully messy but don't worry, I'm going to brush it until it's neat and tidy." She continues to brush my hair until it was smooth and tidy. She smiled and moved on to brush my fur, removing bits of dirt and grass. After she's done, she took a step bit to marvel her work. "Ah, look at you, you are beautiful, my child." She extended another vine from her back to grab a hand mirror and hold it up to me to show my reflection. I gasped, indeed I did look beautiful, I'm no monster or so-called 'curse'.

"Thank you Toriel." I thanked her.

"You're welcome, my child." She replied, putting away the mirror and hairbrush into one of the drawers. "Now, I'm going to bake you some pie tonight. So why not go outside and play while I bake a pie? And please be careful, there are some Pokémons living deep within the RUINS that may hurt you."

"Don't worry Toriel, I'll be fine."

"Alright, take care." She said, before trotting her way to the kitchen. Sighing, I leap off the chair and made my way out of the cottage. I decided to play in the red leaves at the front of the cottage until I saw some Pokémons peeking out from behind the walls. There's a Froakie, Kricketot, Shroomish, Duskull, and Oddish. I beckoned them over to play but they refused since they were afraid of Toriel. So instead, I came over to them and started to play, well it's more like entering into a fight. Since Toriel teaches me about a battle she showed my battle moves. I have Charm, Wish, Refresh and Quick Attack. The three moves were status moves except that Quick Attack is a physical move that does a small amount of damage. Toriel told me that not only it does damage, but I can also use my speed to get away from the fight. After playing (or interacting with the Pokémons), I heard Toriel calling out to me so I farewelled the Pokémons before rushing back inside the cottage. Once arrived, I saw her using her vines to carry a pie dish to the table. I quickly leap onto a chair and placed my paws on the table to have a better look at the meal.

"Oh, hello, my child. I've just finished the pie for you, it's an Oran-Sitrus Pie." She beamed, "Would you like to try some?"

"Yes, please." I squeaked happily as Toriel use her vine to pick up the knife and cut the pie into slices. She scooped one slice and place it on a wooden plate. "Here you go, my child."

"Thank you." I buried my snout into the pie slice, nibbling on it. It tasted so good that I finished the whole slice up. I licked my lips with my pink tongue and smiled, "It's delicious."

"Why thank you." Toriel smiled, and check the time on the clock "Oh dear, it's getting late. You should head to bed now." She trotted beside me, "Come along now, it's bedtime." I leap off my chair and followed her to my room. Inside was like looking into a kid's room with a small bed, lamp, wardrobe, toy box, shoe box, bookshelf, and a large plush Teddiursa. I leap onto the bed which was a futon with bits of straws for the bedding. "Now, let me tell you a bedtime story..." She trotted over to the bookshelf and pulled out a book called 'Little Red Riding Hood' with the book cover of a Braxien wearing a red cloak as 'Red' and a Zoroark hiding behind a tree as the 'Big Bad Wolf'. She sat down beside me after I crawled under the soft blanket. Toriel began reading the story to me and I listened to every word she says, she started to look more like a mother to me. Minutes have passed as Toriel finished the story and saw me fall asleep. She stood up quietly and nuzzle her muzzle on my head to consider a kiss on the forehead before leaving the bedroom and shutting the door behind her.

The next morning, I woke up from my peaceful sleep and let out a big yawn before rubbing my eyes. I looked around the room before crawling out of my bed, making my way out of the door and into the dining room where I can see Toriel cooking something in the kitchen. She came out with a plate of three pancakes with whipped cream and chopped Oran Berries on top.

"Oh, good morning, my child. How do you sleep today?" She asked, before setting the pancakes in front of me after I leap onto a chair.

"It was great," I answered, before nibbling on the pancakes.

"I'm glad to hear that." She nodded and walked over to her armchair, sitting down while grabbing two knitting sticks and a ball of yarn. "My child, I'm going to make you a sweater today."

"Really?" I piped, pulling back from the pancakes with white smudges on my mouth.

"Yes, I realized that some of the clothes are too big for you, so I'm going to make a sweater that's just your size." She answered.

"Oh boy!" I squealed, gobbling the last pancake before leaving the table. I wandered over to the bookshelf and grabbed a book to read. Then I began to wonder something, Toriel keeps saying 'my child' a lot. Does she make me as her daughter of her own or something? That got me really curious and confused at the same time so I decided to ask her. "Hey Toriel, can I ask you a question?"

"Of course." She replied, continue knitting until she was half-finishing the sweater.

"You called me 'my child' a lot, what does that even mean?" I asked.

Toriel smiled and replied, "Because I want to look after you like a mother. It's been a long time since I ever had a child. Everyone has their own children except..." She hesitated and shook her head, "But doesn't matter anyway, all I know is that you're here and I'll take good care of you. There's plenty to do here like reading books, going to bug-hunting spot; everything."

"Oh, I see."

"But, if you want, my child. You can call me as your mother." She insisted.

"Well, okay then... Mom." I said, receiving a large smile on her face and I smiled too. I got up and put away the book before wandering down the hallway. While walking, I came across another door that could only belong to Toriel. I reached to grab the door handle but I'm too short to grab it. I crouched down lower while wiggling my bottom to gain power on my back legs and spring myself until my front paws latched onto the door handle and twisted it, allowing the door to open. I let go the handle to drop down and walked inside. There's a large futon with a big quilt, a large bookshelf, pot plants, and a desk. I paced over to the bookshelf and looked at all the books, these ones are really old and worn out like these were read many times. I grabbed a random encyclopedia book from the shelf and open up to the middle of the page. I began to see some strange subterranean plants, and there's one caught my eyes.

" 'Typha' - A group of wetland flowering plants with brown oblong seeds. Known commonly as 'water sausage'." I read aloud and narrowed my eyes with interest before putting the book back.

I walked over to her desk and saw her diary, I noticed a circled passage in red "What does Steve say when he goes to the Pokémon World? Blue-Skiddo-We-Can-Too!" I read aloud before giggling at the hilarious joke. I turned the other pages but it turns out that her diary is filled with jokes and puns about Pokemon. (A/N: Guys, there is a Pokémon called Skiddo in Pokémon X/Y, and that was used for the reference of Blue's Clues.)

After looking around, it was about the time that I left Toriel's room and head back to the living room to see her fixing up the new sweater.

"Oh, there you are Frisk. I've just finished your sweater." She beamed, holding up a striped pink-and-purple sweater with long sleeves. I squeaked happily as she handed it over to me. I wiggled into my new sweater, manage to get my head through the turtle-neck part until I was through it, wearing it comfortably. I fixed up my hair and showed myself to her. She awed at me, "Aww... you look so adorable!"

"Thanks, Mom, I love it!" I leap onto her and she used her vines to catch me and pulled me closer for a hug.

"You're welcome, my child." She replied, before putting me back down and check the time. "Oh, I better go and check the RUINS again, there is some business that I need to do. You need to stay here until I return, don't go anywhere."

"Okay," I promised, as Toriel left the cottage to do her business. I sighed and decided to play outside with the other Pokémons and wait until Toriel returns. We play LeapFrog, Chasey and Hide-n-Seek. It was fun until everyone got tired and head off deep into the RUINS to rest. I returned home too until I was left alone like what happened in the past. I recalled the fear of the Trainers and the death of the Raticate, even the petrified Pokémons I came across. I placed my paws over my eyes and sob. This is only going to get worse and more importantly...

What if the 'curse' actually happens on Toriel?

Will it turn me into a monster?

Will I live with this 'curse' forever?

I was beginning to feel scared and worried. I don't want to live here anymore, I don't want to hurt Toriel (or Mom to be exact). I have to tell her about this; if I lived here forever then she'll get killed. I walked over to the wide mirror and stared at my reflection. Myself, an Eevee with nowhere to go was born with a 'curse'. Not only that, Toriel doesn't see me as a monster, she says I was adorable and beautiful... She combed my hair, brushed my fur and gave me a new sweater... I snuggled into soft material and sighed. I'll never forget this...

I snapped myself back to reality and took another look until I notice something appearing the mirror. I saw a slate gray fox with pointy ears, a large tuft of fur tipped with red on top of its head. It has greenish-blue eyes with red eyelids, circular red markings above the eyes that resemble eyebrows, a short muzzle tapered with two small fangs, a ruff collar of black fur around its neck, four short legs with red paws and a short bushy tail. Its smile split across its face and chuckled darkly at me before disappearing from the mirror like if I'm seeing an illusion.

Was that the curse or something?

Oh no, that has to be it!

"My child, I'm back," Toriel called out and I sprinted towards her before tackling into her right front leg sobbing. She was surprised at the sudden but relaxed when she looked down at me, her expression softened in concern, "Oh dear, what's wrong, my child?"

"I-I-I'm sorry Mom, I can't stay here anymore." I whimpered.

"What? Why not? Did those monsters hurt you or something?" She questioned, feeling anger boiling in her blood to whoever hurt me.

"No, it wasn't them. But, I-I-I need to leave... now!" I cried.

"But you can't leave, you're safe with me and I'll protect you from whatever I can. You're not leaving this place." She comforted, using her vine to stroke my hair.

"But... the 'curse'?" I bleated.

"What curse?"

"From where I lived, everyone was afraid of me. They called me a monster because I killed an innocent Pokémon with some 'curse'. But that wasn't my fault, I would never hurt anyone like that! They told me to leave the town and I did, to get away from everybody so I wouldn't cause this pain!" I explained, sobbing.

Toriel crouched to my level and wipe my tears away with her vine before embracing me.

"I'm sorry for you to feel this way, my child. But... if that's the case... come with me." She whispered. She stood up and lead me down the stairs that appear to be the basement. We walked down the narrow hallway together, "My child, if you want to leave this place; ahead of us lies the end of the RUINS, a one-way exit to the rest of the underground. But you have to be careful, every Pokémon that falls down here meets the same fate. I have seen it again and again. They come. They leave. They die. If you truly want to leave the RUINS...then Asgore... will kill you..."

"Who's Asgore?" I asked.

"He's the king of the Underground. That fool doesn't know what's he doing." She stopped trotting and before us was a large purple door with the same crest on her robe, "But the only way to prove that is you have to fight him. That is... you have to prove yourself." She walked over to the other side before facing me, her calm expression began to shift into a slight frown, "Prove to me that you are strong enough to survive."

PokéMonsters Info
Toriel - HP - 300/300
ATK 80 DEF 80
Ability - Sap Sipper
Moves: Energy Ball, Razor Leaf, Vine Whip and Synthesis

At the start of the fight, Toriel began the first move by charging an Energy Ball and unleashed them at me. I side-stepped to dodge the attack and use the move Wish. She then attacks with Razor Leaf and I used Quick Attack to use my speed to dodge the leaves. Suddenly, I felt something wrapped around my back leg and I was pulled back and slammed into the wall causing me to scream in agony.

Frisk - HP - 10/20

Due to the Wish move, I felt the wish came true and my health has been restored.

Frisk - HP - 20/20

"Frisk, you have to fight me. I need to see your skills and strength in this fight." Toriel demanded.

"But I can't fight you..." I told her.

"You have to fight... You need to fight against Asgore, otherwise, he'll kill you." She unleashed another Energy Ball and I dodged the attack before using Quick Attack on her. She stumbled back a bit and regain her posture.

Toriel - HP - 160/300

"Not bad, but you need to do better than that." She used Vine Whip and ties me up again. I struggled in her bindings but I use Wish again to restore my health once more. She lifts me up and with an instant, she slammed me into the ground. I squeaked, coughed and stumbled myself a bit until I was standing on my fours.

Frisk - HP - 15/20

My Wish move came true and my health was once again healed.

Frisk - HP - 20/20

"My child, it appears that you have no 'curse' at all. You're just a regular Pokémon with a kind heart that can't harm anyone. Why would you say that if the 'curse' was true?"

"It suppose to be, the more I'm with somebody, the more pain I will inflict on anybody." I blurted.

'So Be It'

I gasped and looked around, directing my attention around the area to find the source of that voice. Suddenly, I heard a loud bleat and immediately turned my attention to Toriel and gasped at the horrible sight. Toriel collapsed on the ground with cuts appearing on herself.

Toriel - HP - 60/300

"M-My Child, what's happening?" She asked with fear in her eyes.

"I don't know, I think that's the curse!" I cried with worry.

More cuts appearing on her skin and she screamed, falling to the ground with the blood leaking from her wounds.

Toriel - HP - 20/200

"Mom, I have to leave... now!" I yelled with tears forming in my eyes.

"B-But I-I..." She stuttered, wincing as she tried to stand up but couldn't, she sighed "I guess you're right... you would be unhappy trapped down here with this 'curse'. The RUINS are very small once you get used to them. It would not be right for you to grow up in a place like this." She looked at me with sad yet concern smile, "My expectation... My loneliness... My fear..." She started to cry, tears falling from her eyes, "For you, my child... I will put them aside. I just have a great time with you living here with me but since 'this' happens and the situation about the 'curse', I will not keep you here..." She got up again but stop at mid-height and crawled over to me, "However, when you leave... please don't come back, I hope you understand."

She extends her two vines, wrapped them around me, pulling me into a hug. I buried my face into her soft dark brown fur and cried while she nuzzles her face into my hair. After a long hug, she retreats her vines into her back and stood up on fours again. "Goodbye, my child..." She then took out something from her cloak and give it to me, "Here, take this with you, it's a Pokegear." She handed the small device to me with a holder that goes around my neck, "Use it if needed..." She used her remaining strength to push the large doors open for me before giving me a soft nuzzle consider a kiss on my forehead. She began to walk away using her Synthesis to heal herself and gave me one last glance before continuing onward.

"Goodbye, Mom. I'm so sorry." I whispered softly while waving my paw softly, before making my way down the long dark hallway. I felt bad and terrible, this 'curse' I'm having is really bad news for me and everybody. I nearly killed Toriel but I managed to get away from her, consider that a 'Spare' so I wouldn't hurt her anymore otherwise she'll end up like what happened to Blue's Raticate. I kept walking until I reached the end of the hallway and into a dark room that seems familiar... and also the presence.

"It's you again..." I growled, glaring at something ahead... it was that smiling Sunflora I saw earlier in front of me.

"Clever. Verrrryyy clever." He gibed with a smug grin on his face. "You think you're really smart, don't you? In this world, it's catch or be catched. So you were able to play by your own rules with that 'curse' you had. You manage to spare a life to a single Pokémon." I glared harder at the Flower Pokemon, and he laughed. The Sunflora kept talking, "I bet you feel really great since you had no idea how that 'curse' of yours works, you manage to attack her soon and she'll have fainted. But you didn't kill anybody this time. However; what will you do if you meet a relentless killer?"

My eyes widened as I gasped. I was aware that whatever it is, it can sure wanna kill me now. Or if you put it that way, I'll end up killing them instead of sparing.

"You'll die and you'll die and you'll die. Until you tire of trying. What will you do then? Will you kill out of frustration with your 'curse'? Or will you give up entirely on this world... and let ME inherit the power to control it?"

"Enough, Flowey!" I barked.

"No? You have the 'curse' after all, you cannot escape it since it was already inside you. You'll have it with you along the way and every time you get near them, you'll kill them!" He began laughing like a maniac, "This is SO much more interesting." Finally, he popped into the ground, leaving me in the darkness alone. I sniffle a bit but ignore his words.

"I don't want to kill or hurt anybody, but my life will become more hurtful than before... I don't know who would trust me or even like me, nobody would love a lonely murder Eevee with a stupid curse." I muttered, raising my paw to my eyes and wiped away the tears. "I have to stay away from everybody..." I arrived at another large door and pushed it with all of my might, before stepping outside.
