The Chaos of the Dead.
Red got the hang of the Life School quite quickly. He was able to heal allies quickly and even caught up to some of the higher leveled Theurgists in spell prowess. He was by no means powerful, but he understood what they were saying a little bit better (Unlike in Unicorn Way, Ceren said five different spell names and Red had to just nod and agree).
Somewhere in the middle, the Headmaster called him away.
"I don't mean to interrupt your studies. However, it seems the problem has evolved. Some guards over in Olde Town have reported more undead and unusual activities in the three streets." Red nodded as the Headmaster smiled. "Good luck then."
~
Red looked around before going over to what looked like the important Guard in the area. The older male scanned him with a sigh.
"None shall pass. We're currently dealing with an undead problem and it's advised that students stay back." Unfazed, Red gave him the letter from the headmaster. "Oh... you were sent to help. Well, I can't argue with you then. Three streets. Firecat Alley has something happening. Private Quinn was supposed to report back to me, but no sign. Triton Avenue had two different groups going in to assess two different problems. Artur and Suzie Gryphonbane were dealing with it last I checked. As for Cyclops Lane..." He looked at the gate with a sigh. "Look for Nolan Stormgate. I don't care what that kid says, he doesn't have it under control. No Myth Wizard ever does. Be careful."
~
He chose Firecat Alley first (It was the street he heard first). And honestly, the problem was simple. The only problem was Gretta.
He didn't like her.
But he worked with her because she did have a way to deal with the Fire Elf problem.
~
In Triton Avenue, Artur kept targeting his lack of response and his backed call-and-response. Duncan, on the other hand, used it to his advantage. While Artur kept saying he was "dull", Duncan was a lot quicker to catch him when he lost the conversation. The Death Wizard had him grab things before they found Suzie, who was in a tight spot. Artur glared at Duncan as he went to speak.
"Wait a second-"
"Hold on you. Red, you go help Suzie. If you need help, we'll be here." Red went almost instantly, not before overhearing the conversation. "What, Artur? Are you gonna complain again?"
"Why are you making him do your dirty work? You could've gotten all that yourself!"
"You're right. But he had nothing better to do."
"He could've found something."
"Artur, when he returns, look at his eyes and tell me if you see anything working in there. I can guarantee you will not find anything more than a hamster running on a wheel. There is nothing up there."
"Sure."
Red did return after assisting Suzie with saving the street. And again, she utilized the lack of brain power he had. Artur was the only one who didn't understand.
"Are you two kidding me?"
"I have to ask you the same thing, dear brother of mine!"
Red lost interest in the conversation until Duncan spoke.
"Red, could you go tell the guard that it's all clear here?" He nodded before leaving, gaining a hiss from Artur.
"You guys are ordering him around like a dog."
"It's cause he is. There's nothing running up in that head.
"Thank you Suzie for seeing that. I'm not the only one." Artur frowned.
"He can think for himself."
"Imma quote you on that when you realize he can't. I don't know what is up there, but it is not a brain." Suzie snickered at her brother's annoyance.
"Leave it, Artur. You don't see what we see. It's fine to be wrong."
"I'm not- Hey!"
~
As for Cyclops Lane-
"HELP!"
Red reacted a hell of a lot quicker upon that single word. He raced over, wand in hand, and fired at the Trolls that were attacking someone. The second he gave them an opening, they took it, bolting away as Red cleared a whole through them. As he finished, he looked around. They had vanished so quickly. He went over to the small park in the middle before a soft voice spoke near him.
"Thanks-" He turned as the person from before crawled out from under the stage-like structure. They were shaking as they got to their feet. "I'm sorry- I should've-"
"Are you alright?" Red wasn't concerned about anything else. He responded to a distress call, so he needed to make sure that the person that was in distress was ok. The person paused before smiling softly.
"Yes... thank you." They then sat down, leaning against the stage. "Who sent you in here? I thought the guard was keeping people out. I had to get in through Firecat Alley and the Dark Cave..." Red smiled.
"The Headmaster got word of the problems over here and in the other streets. I came to help." The person paused before their eyes lit up.
"Oh- You're the new kid. The one that helped out in Unicorn Way? Uh... Red, right?" He nodded as they scrambled to their feet, still being a little shaky. "Nolan Stormgate." They shook hands as he gulped. "Well... I guess we better figure this out- Cause I can't-"
Nolan didn't go into any details of what happened before he got there, which was arguably better than the other streets. He literally started by asking him to clear out some trolls and cyclopes. He found a note while fighting, so he let Nolan look into it. The noise that escaped him let Red know that it was nothing good.
"Oh I forgot about that- shit- uh-" He gripped his head as he muttered several curses. "Ok... Can you go into the Dark Cave? There are three Students that should be here-" He went off into a mumbling mess, so Red took the lack of info for granted and ran off.
Once inside, it wasn't hard to find them. Electra Stormcloud, Garrick Goldenhawk, and Rosie Ironheart were a little trapped, but Electra was able to guide him (Ok, so she didn't use any forceful tones or simple instructions, so he took a bit to register what he needed to do until Rosie screamed elsewhere). He was able to regroup them as Nolan came to his senses again.
"Oh, so when were you going to notice we disappeared?"
"Electra, I'm not having any better of a time than you are. Shut up." Red took no notice as Electra scanned Red.
"Have you been ordering him around?"
"No-"
"Yes you have." Rosie glanced between the two of them as Garrick sighed.
"Nolan, that's all you do."
"I do not-" Rosie stayed quiet as Nolan rubbed his face. "You guys are acting like I'm the mastermind of some scheme."
"Probably are. Most Myth Wizards never have anything under control anyway."
"Oh... WILL YOU NOT!?" Red turned instantly when Nolan's voice shot up. The others snickered as he sat down, trying to block them out. Electra turned to Red before saying something. No, he wasn't listening. He heard her say something to try to gain his attention before he zoned out. Garrick then spoke.
"I don't think he's listening."
"How would you know?"
"Because you asked 4 questions and he has yet to blink. I bet he's Myth as well." Nolan snapped a bit.
"I'm pretty fucking sure Myth Wizards don't where green, Mr. Brainfreeze." The duo chuckled as he put his head down again.
"Ooh, the attitude is out and roaring." Surprisingly, Nolan didn't pull out a weapon to kill either of them. Instead, he lifted his head and looked at Red, who was still zoned out.
"Red." That instantly got his attention as he looked up. "Could you please intercept the incoming group?" The Life Wizard nodded before running off.
"You are ordering him around."
"No, he's taking my words like orders. The only person who sees it like orders is you freaks. I bet he'll do the same thing if you had said it."
"You're ordering him around."
"I am NOT!" Red returned moments later, healing a bump on his head. Rosie caught sight of the healing before she finally spoke.
"Guys, stop torturing Nolan. This guy's Life." An estranged noise escaped Electra as she turned to Red, who finished healing the wound.
"Life?" He didn't answer as Nolan glanced at her. She then looked at Garrick. "How did we get saved by a Life- Who the fuck is sending Life Wizards into dangerous territories?"
"Obviously not you, so every Storm Wizard is off the list." She shot a look at Nolan before looking at the Life Wizard.
"Alright... Red." He looked up as she pursed her lips. "What are you doing here?" He tilted his head.
"I... already answered that-" Nolan intercepted her rather well.
"Red, could you go to the very end of the street? See if you can get into the Keep." Red went without another word which made the other three stop.
"Eh?"
"Don't you dare."
Red was not only successful with convincing the guard to let him in, he also overheard something by some other cyclopes.
"We should start moving to get those wizards.
"Right."
That started his small mind into thinking something, but it wasn't until he defeated the General and "The Great One" before he figured it out. He got close before a yelp grabbed his attention, causing him to race over to where the others were. Nolan was just barely holding up a shield, trying to push back the cyclopes that were there. Red's wand was in his hand as he got in the middle, allowing the Myth Wizard to relax as he pushed the group back. As they fled he turned to them.
"Is everyone alright?" Rosie blinked as Nolan gulped.
"No. No I am not."
"Baby."
"Electra, you weren't beat over the head!" Red knelt down and got to healing the other Wizard as the Storm Wizard sighed.
"You're bossing him around like a minion." Nolan looked like he was about to make a comeback until Red spoke.
"No, I'm just making sure everyone's alright. The only one sounding bossy is you." Rosie lost it as Electra tried to fight him on that.
~
After he reported the three streets to the lead guard, he went back and let the Headmaster know. He was thanked before he was sent back to class.
Artur and the trio from Cyclops Lane never joined up with him, but Nolan did track him down to thank him. He was apparently the first Non-Myth Wizard to not talk down on a Myth Wizard. Duncan approached him later to talk, but that was it. He never saw Suzie, but he also learned that she had back to back classes in the Storm School, so seeing her was a unicorn to some (Even though seeing a Unicorn wasn't that rare-).
~
Apparently, Duncan had mentioned something about a Cave (Haunted Cave, not the Dark Cave) and that grabbed the Headmaster's attention. He was called to look into it. Duncan led the way.
"Despite being a Death Wizard, this place gives me the creeps-" He jumped as some bats came out. "You saw nothing-" The two locked eyes as it was revealed that Red had landed on his bum when he jumped. There was some chuckling before they went in.
"You done getting spooked?"
"You done landing wrong?"
They did get to the end, where an eerie tower stood.
"Oh hell no."
"The answer from before is apparently no." Duncan pointed the light from his wand at the Life Wizard, trying to be annoying, before he sighed.
"Your fight."
When he finished, Duncan was nowhere to be seen. Red paused as he looked around, having to pull out his wand to summon a light.
"Duncan?" Nothing. He was nowhere in the area. He frowned as he headed back.
~
After showing the Headmaster what he found, he found Duncan in the Boy's Dormitory Lounge Area. He was shaking as Ceren draped a blanket over his shoulder.
"It will be forever till I die will I be able to understand how a Death Wizard can get spooked." Red frowned as he went over.
"What happened?"
"That's a good question. All I know is that he is acting like he saw his childhood. Not sure if that's a good thing."
~
He got only one other call from the Headmaster. The stuff he found (A journal) exposed a hidden secret behind the waterfall. He slipped into the area and paused.
The Death School. Oh dear-
He gulped as he flicked out his wand and let a light out. He heard some grumbling before he cracked open the door.
"This... this is it..." He blinked as he spotted a book. "Oh perfect. I can finally move forward!"
"Master, is it wise-"
"Silence!"
Red's mind was locked onto that one word. Master. The Dark Master.
He didn't hesitate as he pushed open the doors, wand charged and ready. He locked eyes with the older man, who sneered.
"Well, well, well... Look who it is." He gulped as he pointed his wand forward. "If it isn't the little new wizard, who destroyed the undead powers in the four streets. Oh, I know why you're here. But you are too late!" Something slammed Red out of the door and into the tower across the way. He dropped to the ground before the last bit of his consciousness watched the man teleport before blacking out.
~
Very slowly, he regained himself, waking up to someone shaking him awake.
"Oh- You did survive. Good, good, good." A soft noise escaped him as he sat up, gripping his head as he turned to the person.
"Uh-" The person pressed something cold against his head as he trembled.
"It's not the best- but hold still." He winced as something sapped his soul. While it wasn't pretty, the pain dimmed. "Ok... there... that'll all balance out soon." He stood up as the person sighed. "Are you ok?"
"Yeah..." He scanned the person. "Thank you ma'am-"
"All's good-"
~
The Headmaster seemed peeved about something, but he let Red go rest after his injury. Ceren took care of him until he could get back up, which got much disagreement from some of the others.
"You think that injury gave him a mind of his own?"
"Probably not." Red blinked slowly before Duncan spoke again. "Scratch that, definitely not." Ceren hummed.
"I hear there was some drama between Professor Giovanni and Headmaster Oak." Artur glanced at him.
"Oh? What went down?"
"I have no idea. I wasn't there. Suzie heard it." Duncan's face said it all. "I know. Shocking. I don't know when this was." The others scoffed as Ceren finished undoing the bandages on Red's head.
"There. All done." Red hummed softly before Nolan hummed.
"Wait... You guys don't think-" Duncan snapped instantly.
"Absolutely not!" Nolan shrank in his chair as the others glanced at the Death Wizard. Garrick chuckled.
"He didn't even finish."
"It's always the same thing. For the last bloody time, Master Blue is gone! Went crashing down when the Death School vanished!" Red waited a good moment to speak. The Headmaster had told the Death Students that their classes were moved. Apparently someone didn't get the memo.
"You mean the Death School that is hiding behind the waterfall in the Commons?" The shock that crossed Duncan's face said it all as another Death Student, Malorn, chuckled.
"Didn't you hear? Assistant Professor Karen is taking on the role of the Death Professor. Red found the school not too long ago."
"That's when I got a concussion."
"Regardless-" Ceren threw something at him as Duncan paused.
"Oh... then... maybe... But that's assuming he was actually-" Instead of charging questions at Red, the Death Wizard went out, getting some chuckles from the others.
"Oh dear-"
