Chapter 6: Rules

Jungkook got home after school with Hoseok as he walked into his empty house. At the moment, his mother was at work so she wouldn't be around for a while. Hoseok stepped into the house and gazed around. Mesmerized by the beautiful furniture and the nice smell of vanilla and apricots in the house.

"You have a nice house, Jungkook! Wow.. It's really pretty!" Hoseok claimed as he gazed up at every part of the room. "Your Mother isn't here... So we don't have to hide in your room." Hoseok added.

"Good point there, I just expected her to be home by then but I guess she's working extra..." Jungkook replied, taking off his shoes and walking to the couch where all the wons were gone now. Showing that his Mother finally accepted them as part of their deal. "Now... I have to get a job, huh?"

"What are you talking about?" Hoseok wondered, walking around the living room and gazing at framed pictures of the family.

"I made a deal to give up gambling to work many jobs from now on. Just so my Mother will accept the Wons I had for her." Jungkook replied and took out the deck of cards again and spread them out onto the table. "However... I thought maybe I can still gamble, but come home claiming I work for the money I actually won."

"How are you going to get the money to play on friday with Park Jimin?" Hoseok asked, observing a picture of an older man who looks like Jungkook. By now, Hoseok knew this could be Jungkook's frequently absent Father.

"I have a few stacks of wons of my own so I can play with those and start working, I guess." Jungkook sighed and turned his head Hoseok's way. "You like that picture?"

"No... I'm only curious... Who is it? Is it your father?" Hoseok questioned.

            "Yes."

"You never mentioned him. Where is he?"

"Gone.. No where.. Far from here." Jungkook added, making his friend tilt his head.

"Did he... Pass away?" Hoseok wondered as Jungkook shrugged.

"I wouldn't know... I'm sorry." Jungkook sighed, but deep down... He really did know. He just kept it from everyone and left it as a personal topic with his Mother and himself. "Anyways, let's get started! Come on, Hoseok. Get your cards."

           "How many again?"

"Seven cards. Don't forget to drop your two hole cards faced down on the table.

"Don't we need poker chips for this?"

"I don't own poker chips. Lets just run through the basics. Tell me what you call your cards."

              "Um, hands?"

"And these?" Jungkook asked pointing to the two cards faced down.

                "Two hole cards."

"Good! Now, tell me the winning hands. You can show me it too." Jungkook claimed as Hoseok's eyes widened, gawking at the deck of cards cluelessly. "Don't tell me you don-"

"Ah! I took a picture and studied it but it doesn't stick!"

             "Yet dancing does."

"Of course! It's dancing, way more easier than Poker." Hoseok claimed and folded his arms while he looked at the deck.

"Here... I'll show you." Jungkook said taking out his phone and handing it to Hoseok. "I saved some photos on winning hands so you would understand."

"You are very persistent, aren't you?" Hoseok chuckled as be gazed at the screen.

"This is 'Three of a kind' three matching cards. It has to be the same number, which means same rank." Jungkook explained as Hoseok zoomed in on the picture.

          "Got it! What's next?"

"Here is 'Four of a kind' four cards that are the same value like these four Q's."

"This is 'Royal flush.' Where Ace is the biggest hand on here. Straight flush of all the same cards."

"Next is 'Straight flush'. Five cards of the same suit but go in numerical number."

"Then there is 'Straight' mixed suits but numbers in numerical order." Jungkook claimed swiping next to show Hoseok the next bundle of combinations.

"Then this is 'Flush' Any order of cards in the same suit."

"This is 'Two pair' two of equal ranked cards.

"Now, Imagine if you have a tie with an opponent, the highest rank here is the 'Kicker' this breaks the tie. In this case, the 'kicker' is the J."

           "Oh! Alright."

"Here is 'One Pair' any two matching cards."

"Then this is 'Full house' Combinations of 'One pair' and  'Three of a kind' in the same hand."

"And finally, 'High card' this is with no other combination but left with a highest rank in your hand. In this case, Ace is your 'High card'

"Oh! Makes sense. Alright I understand. Thank you." Hoseok chuckled and gazed over at the winning hands once more. "I'm just glad you won't drag me into the club to gamble! That will be the worst."

"I would if you are good at it." Jungkook laughed as he set up the cards, handing Hoseok seven. "Oh and here is the board where I set the cards players can see. These are the only cards everyone can see. Only until 'Showdown' is when all cards are revealed to see who will win from all those winning hand combinations."

"That's nice and all.... But, Jungkook.. I worry about you... Aren't you supposed to be getting a job?"

"Ah, I don't know where, actually... I'm trying to get enough jobs though. To help my Mother so she wouldn't get worried when I bring stacks of wons in return from gambling." Jungkook sighed as he tapped his deck of cards onto the table. "It's tough to stop..."

"I can tell. But hey, I can help you with the job thing! Since you are such a great friend, and of course my only friend, I will hook you up to three jobs. How does that sound?"

"Ah, thank you... I really apreciate that, Hoseok." Jungkook added as he made such a smile. Feeling relived that he didn't have to stress about finding jobs to help his Mother now.

At the time, Jimin was in his room, laying in bed as he cupped the center of his chest. Jimin was laying on a big bed in a penthouse floor. His room had a big view of the city, yet his penthouse was diminished of light. Jimin was laying in his big queen sized, red covered bed, Sulking in the dark as he began to contemplate on his last round with Jeon Jungkook.

"That boy.." Jimin whispered to himself as he still cupped the center of his chest. Laying under the red cherry covers with just his loose dress shirt from under his coat, his underwear and black socks. "H-How did he win? I never lose!" Jimin hissed as he sat up quickly, gazing around his dark room with only furniture of a one seat leathered couch, dark wooden cabinets with a jewlery box on a wide, dark wooden cabinet, lotion, a wide collection of colognes, and an empty bottle of whiskey.

"I don't want to be seen as a loser... I can't lose! What is he planning? To ruin me?! I'll... I'll-" Jimin just let out an exhale as he still kept cupping his chest as if he was holding onto the gem of the saphire necklace. "I can't hurt him for winning... No matter how angry I can easily get... I can't hurt someone like that. Not him..." Jimin thought.

The charming man was still holding nothing on the center of his chest like the necklace was still there. However, it was just a habit that he would hold onto it everytime. Even on those times he would panic. "I'll see him on friday... and I know exactly what we can bet on." Jimin added as he smiled, moving his hand away from his chest.

Knowing his necklace was no longer there and in the hands of Jungkook, Jimin felt empty without it. Yet, the necklace wasn't what Jimin desired to win.... It was no one other than the young gambler, Jeon Jungkook. That was who Jimin longed to win now.
