Ghosts Love The Dark (Giacomo x Shy!Male!Reader)
(Alright, so fun fact-
This is the first time I've ever done a Male x Male so yee yee-
And a lot of y'all really like Giacomo or Arven- <I can't judge though, Arven is really flipping adorable and caring and protective about the people/things he cares about and Giacomo looks like the kinda guy who would be fun in a relationship and would always probably hype you up when you enter a room, even if you were just standing there for no reason.>
So this shy reader is male with ghost type Pokémon, so yee, I'mma try to make this a good one hopefully!
Small note(s): The reader is Galarian and moved to Paleda from Galar since he was living with another family member.
He never got his first starter until he moved to Paleda.
(Y/n) only has 3 'mons on him for plot reasons.
He trained his Skeledirge up a lot before challenging Giacomo because of the Ghost Typing Skeledirge has and because it probably wouldn't be a full fledged Ghost Type User if he didn't train them up before. And it has been tested on my Violet Save, Pokémon, even if higher leveled than Team Star Bosses, especially 10 or 15 levels higher, can still be defeated by the Boss's Pokémon, though, this was only tested in post-game, so yee- but there's a challenge for you if you wanna see if it's beatable during the Operation Starfall Storyline. :D
So with that out of the way...
☆On with the story!☆)

_________
"So, you think you're prepared?" Cassiopeia said as they spoke on your phone, "Giacomo is known to be really tough to go up against, and with you having a team of only 3 Ghost Types, it'll be way tougher than it would be if you had a fairy or a fighting type."
"W-Well, I don't really think my team is in too much danger..." I said as I looked to my Skeledirge walking beside me, "Besides, Skeledirge can burn Pokémon can't he? That would make a Physical Attacker be useless unless he used a burn heal."
"But what about any Special Attackers?" They asked, "You've got to be really careful with them if all you've got is Physical Defenders."
"I know, but... I don't think I wanna change my team for this." I pat Skeledirge's head as it growled happily at my touch, "Besides, I may be taking the Champion challenge and helping take down Titans and Team Star, but I honestly wanna be a Gym Leader. It's not as panic inducing as being a Champion would be..."
"Ah, alright, I understand," Cassiopeia said in understanding, "Well, if you have any struggles with this, feel free to ask me, I might be able to help you with ideas for strategies against him, alright? Ghosts can have a struggle against dark types, but if you have counters for him, you can really knock him down a peg."
I nodded as Cassiopeia hung up and my Rotom Phone flew back into my pocket, "Alright, Skele, you ready for this?"
Skeledirge made a happy growl as it stood on its hind legs and roared in determination as I grinned.
"Then let's do this!"
_____
"Oh Finizen. Oh Finizen. OH FINIZEN!!" I said, running as Skeledirge attempted to knock out several of the Pokémon that ran across the field to attack, "Uh, Skeledirge, Graveard, Bramblin! Keep holding on and give it your best sh-shot-!"
We only had 3 minutes left before the bell would ring, and we'd only taken out 27 of them. If we weren't quick, all of this work that we had gotten so far would be lost.
"Haha! Looks like you're struggling to keep up, huh, Asteroid?" One of the grunts had yelled out.
"Hehe! Yeah, you'll never get to fight our boss at this rate!" Said another.
They laughed as I looked at them, feeling embarrassed and a bit downhearted.
Skeledirge growled, then used Torch Song on the last three Pokémon that remained, and the people who were laughing then choaked on their laughter as Skeledirge then stared at them with anger in it's eyes.
"Get the Boss!!" Yelled out a grunt from somewhere, "He can take this Asteroid out, for sure."
I then smiled a bit, feeling my confidence rise up a little bit, before it then fell again as I heard the loud sound of a Revaroom roared out from a large tent.
The car-like Pokémon drove out as music blared from the speakers on top of it, a figure sitting on top of it eyes closed and looking down, and holding one hand over his left headphone. He then looked to me, smiling as I stepped back a little.
"You've done a real number on us, Party Crasher! (Y/n), was it?" He said before standing up, "I'm Giacomo! At the deck, I get by DJ Vice! Call me whichever- it's a vibe either way."
I was shaking in my shoes, but I stood my ground as my Skeledirge hid behind me and growled in defense. I could tell it was scared and tired, and to tell the truth, I was scared and tired too.
"I-I'm here to defeat you!" I said, my stuttering caused me to look like I was joking, as Giacomo stiffled a laugh.
"I know that, Asteroid. Why do you think everyone in our group calls you Asteroid?"
I blushed in embarrassment, well of course he knows (Y/n), how could he not know?!
"O-Oh... Uhm... Uhh..." I couldn't think of anything else to say, so I just stared at the ground.
"Heh, for an Asteroid, you sure don't seem like you'd be able to cause any damage." He said before grabbing a Pokéball.
I noticed he was getting out a Pokémon, so I grabbed Brambleghast's Pokéball, "W-Well, I may not look tough, but I-I'm tougher than I-I look!"
"Hmph, we'll see, (Y/n)!" He said, winking towards me.
I made a small pose, trying to make him think I was unfazed, but I was failing terribly.
"Well, nice to meet you and all... But how 'bout we skip straight to your outro? Don't worry-" He said taking a pause, which seemed a little bit for dramatic effect, "I'll play you a sick requiem as you crash and burn!"
He sent out a Pawniard as Skeledirge ran into battle and rose up on two feet, letting out a loud battle cry before falling back onto two feet again.
"You really don't think things through, do ya?" He said holding a laptop in his other hand, "Declarin' war on Team Star is a real bad move."
He then commanded his Pawniard to use Aerial Ace on Skeledirge, causing Skeledirge to flinch back a little bit.
"Sk-Skeledirge! Are you o-okay?!" I called out to my Pokémon as he nodded in response, though it seemed he was a bit tired from before.
"Ha! How's that for an openin' track!" He taunted, "I'll spin you up good, party crasher!"
I felt a bit afraid, due to the state Skeledirge was in, but then I stood tall and called out, "Skeledirge, u-use Torch Song!"
Skeledirge growled, then used the move on the Pawniard, which ended with a critical hit on it, making Pawniard faint.
Giacomo seemed suprised and shocked at this, though he should've remembered that Skeledirge is a Fire/Ghost type.
"Good j-job, Skeledirge!" I cheered out.
Giacomo only became more determined and dedicated to winning against me, "Time to turn up the tempo! This show ain't over yet!"
As soon as I waited for him to send out his next Pokémon, the Revaroom he was standing on roared out, causing me to cover my ears and causing the people surrounding the battle to cheer out.
"O-Oh Deerling-" I said as I tried to think of what to do, "We m-might be in danger here-!"
"A'ight Revaroom! Show them what you can do with your Wicked Torque!" Giacomo called out as the Pokémon he stood on charged at Skeledirge. It was super-effective against Skeledirge and it caused him to faint in one hit.
"Skeledirge! R-Return!" I called out as I returned him to his ball, "Y-You did good buddy... But let's l-let Brambleghast deal w-with this for now!"
I tossed out Bramblin, it's tumbleweed body crinkled as it hit the ground with a determined stance.
"Are Ghost Types all you have?" Giacomo called out to me as I looked down in a bit of fear.
"U-Uhm... Well, y-yeah kinda..." I then put my brave stance back onto my face, "B-But I kn-know that if me and my team can work as a team, w-we can pr-prove that Ghosts don't f-fear the d-d-darkness! We m-may be weak to i-it, but we'll n-never back down fr-from this fight!"
He smiled confidently, "Well, how about I give ya a reason to back down?" He said as Revaroom roared out once again, this time uppering it's speed, "Get ready, Revaroom! Wicked Torque his Bramblin and show this 'Asteroid' why he should back down!"
"Bramblin! A-Avoid the attack and u-use Leech Seed!" I called out, Bramblin made a screech in understanding and rolled out to the side to avoid the attack, then it spat out seeds around Revaroom. As soon as the seeds hit the ground, the seeds started to grow from the ground, and wrapped around its wheels, causing Revaroom to let out a loud confused roar as it struggled to try and get Leech Seed off of it's wheels.
"Revaroom!" Giacomo said, his confidence looked as if it turned into worry, "Come on, try to use Wicked Torque once more!"
Revaroom struggled to move, due to Leech Seed wrapping around it's wheels, but did as much as it could, though it was super effective, Bramblin was still battle ready with half it's HP.
"Bramblin! Are you alright?" I called out as Bramblin shook it off. It screeched as a way to say it was fine, then gave an even louder screech as a battle cry. I started feeling a bit hopeful, we were actually about to win!
"Th-That's good then! Th-That means you can u-use a Strength Sap for good measures!" I said as Bramblin screeched contently, then rushing up to it and sitting on its main engine as it started glowing lightly, signifying it was using the move.
Revaroom puffed out black smoke as it started to stutter in its movement, it was weakened by the move, and Bramblin looked as if it was fully healed as it tumbled back towards me and gave a small screech.
"G-Good job, Bramblin, now come back, okay?" I said returning Bramblin to its ball, "Graveard! Let's finish him off!"
The said Pokémon popped out of it's Dusk Ball and barked as it ran in a circle before going into a battle pose.
"Revaroom, try to keep going and use Wicked Torque!" Giacomo said as Revaroom attempted to roar, and charge up once again.
"Graveard! Counter i-it and u-use Play Rough!" I called out to Graveard.
Both Pokémon clashed against each other, and although Graveard was small and weak to the move, it toughed out the move, and held on, giving a small, but determined whimper, while Revaroom stood still before shaking and falling apart.
Giacomo stood in shock, closing his computer, and both arms falling to his sides.
"W-We did it!" I smiled and made a fist as I punched the air and Graveard ran to me, giving me puppy cuddles, "Good job, girl. Now take a rest, okay?" She barked as I returned her to her ball.
"Guess that's that..." Giacomo said in a sad tone, before getting off of the fainted Pokémon.
-------
"I did the best I could..." Giacomo said as he walked up to me, staring directly into my (e/c) eyes, "I wrote that code myself, and there's no goin' back on it now. My days as a boss are over. So here-take my Star Badge would ya?"
I nodded, a little bit shakey from my win, but also because I was about to have to talk to another person, I just met today. "Uh, y-yeah, s-sure..." I said as my face flushed as he handed me the badge.
As soon as I grabbed the badge, he grabbed my hand and turned getting the badge into a suprise handshake, that made me redder than I was before. After we let go, he then handed me a TM, "I'll give you this choice TM, too. You earned it fair n' square."
He then shook his head in embarrassment, "Haaaah... So this is how the party ends..." Then he relaxed and gave a smile, "But lets talk about those Pokémon of yours. They're crazy strong, huh."
I nodded, giving a small smile, and bowing my head down a little, making Giacomo seem a little conflicted.
"You don't talk much when put into a conversation do you, Asteroid?" He asked, tilting his head a small bit.
"W-Well.. Not really..." I responded a little bit in a whisper.
"Ah okay then... Well..." He seemed to take a moment in thought, he seemed to try to find a topic that would start up a conversation, then he spoke, "You learn those Trainer chops at the academy? Like, what moves you should use n' stuff?"
I nodded, "Kinda... I mostly knew by memory o-of when I was reading up on Ghost Types." I said happily, slowly starting to open up to him a little bit.
"Huh... Ok... You like it at the Academy? Havin' fun?" Giacomo asked, noticing that I was speaking a little bit more, than I was earlier.
I happily responded, "Y-Yeah, I'm actually happy I got to join the Academy s-since I got to learn h-how to battle my Pokémon, despite their disadvantages!" I then stopped talking for a moment, "But it does get kinda lonely there... I don't have much of a reputation unless being the guy who sits in the library and studying books all day is part of it."
"No kiddin'..." He said trailing off at the end.
We were then interrupted by Director Clave- I mean, Clive as he walked into the conversation.
C: "Sorry to interrupt, but are you Giacomo?"
G: "Whoa-ho! Wasn't expecting a Giant Pompadour to make a guest appearance today. You get a Quaxwell to style that up for ya?"
After he said that, I snickered a bit before putting my hands over my mouth so that I didn't let out any accidental laughter.
Clive rubbed his hands over his pompadour, making sure it was slicked back before speaking, "I'm just after a quick word. Would you mind?"
Giacomo gave a thumbs-up, "Sure, I can tell it's gonna be somethin' annoying, but I guess I'm newly freed up for time, thanks to Asteroid over here."
I scratched my neck, flustered at the statement.
Clive then put both hands behind his back, "Thanks, I'll get straight to it. It seems all of you in Team Star are headed for expulsion if you keep up your current activities. So why won't you break up the team and start attending class at the academy again?"
Giacomo seemed a bit confused, "That's what you wanna know? As it happens, we're actually waitin' on a pal... though we don't know if they'll be comin' back."
C: "A pal...? A close friend of yours, are they?"
G: "They're only the strongest boss in all of Team Star! Like how there's a Top Champion who's the absolute number-one trainer, y'know? They're the one who invited us other bosses to form the team! We call 'em the 'Big Boss'."
C: "And where is this big boss of yours now?"
"Wouldn't we like to know. We haven't heard from 'em in, I dunno... must be a year and a half now. We thought that if we kept Team Star going, then they'd get back in touch one day." He then became irritated, "But the teachers keep pressin' us to call it quits, and then we get party crashers like you two..."
I bowed my head in shame and the conversation became an awkward silence.
Giacomo then interrupted the silence, "Maybe the big boss did ditch us... They were talkin' about breakin' up the team before and all."
C: "So, Team Star and this big boss of yours... They're really that important to you?"
He smiled brightly, giving a thumbs-up, "Heh, is the sky blue? Let me put it in words you eggheads at the academy might understand... They're my greatest treasure."
Clive seemed suprised at the fact, but then nodded with a content look on his face. "I understand, Giacomo, thank you for answering my question. That is all I needed to know." He walked off, leaving me and Giacomo by ourselves as we just stood in place.
Though it was a small silence, I tried to break the silence between us, "So... Team Star is like your treasure?" I asked with a bit of curiosity in my voice.
"Yep, they've been my treasure ever since we all met, kinda like a family to me in a way," he said, a tone of happiness laced his voice, "If we weren't able to see each other anymore, then I don't know what I'd do without them, y'know what I mean?"
"Heh, yeah... I know what you mean. If I wasn't able to see someone who was important to me anymore, I wouldn't be able to know what to do either." I said feeling a bit happy about the conversation.
--------
Our conversation lasted a while and I could tell we both enjoyed the conversation. We hung out for the day and talked a lot about ourselves, I told him things about what went on around Paleda, and he told me things about what Team Star did before I beat him in battle. Even though, it was a good day spent with him. Unfortunately though, the day was ending and I had to go and continue on what Cassiopeia tasked me with doing.
G: "Do you really gotta go (Y/n)?"
(Y/n): "Yeah, unfortunately... B-But, I'll try to be back sometime tomorrow, I promise."
I hugged him tightly as he became a bit shocked and flustered, but at the same time, he hugged me back as well.
(Y/n): "Trust me Como, I'm not gonna be gone forever! And maybe... Maybe I can get the Director to maybe allow Team Star to continue operating but in a different way maybe, so that you and the other team leaders can continue hanging out together...?"
Giacomo looked at me and smiled slightly, "If only... But let's be real, they probably won't." He then let go of me.
"You never know, they might have a change of heart..." I said as I looked down a bit, I kinda missed him holding me in his arms.
G: "Maybe, but after some bullies spread those rumors, it's kinda hard to think they'd let us keep the team together... But if they do allow us to keep the team? I'd be happy."
I nodded. It made me feel more determined to discuss the plans of Team Star what the academy would do about them. I didn't want him to lose his greatest treasure just so I could possibly gain my treasure, especially since I might have already just found it.
(Y/n): "I won't let them break the team up or expel you from classes, I promise... I'll be back soon, and if I know what they say, I'll tell you."
I hugged him once more, then let go, before planting a small kiss on his cheek and running off with a face as red as a Applin. Giacomo was standing there also looking as if he became an Applin as well, but instead of waving, he looked as if he was hit with a Nuzzle and a Sweet Kiss at once.
(Y/n): "See ya l-later, Como-!"
After I left the base, I had gotten a phone call from Cassiopeia.
C: "(Y/n)! I thought something might've happened to you!"
(Y/n): "Oh, uhm... S-Sorry, Cassiopeia... I j-just got a bit distracted i-is all..."
C: "It's okay, (Y/n). What had you distracted?"
(Y/n): "W-Well, I-I kinda talked w-with Giacomo, a-a-and y'know, I j-just wanted t-to hang out with him, a-and I-I just..."
C: "... You've got a crush on him, don't you?"
(Y/n): "Y-Yeah..."
I could hear them sigh from the other side of the phone, and I thought I realized who it was for a second when I thought I heard someone say, "Little bro, you're growing up way too fast..."
------
I'm (Y/n), a guy who has only Ghost Types on my team. I've taken down all the Bosses of Team Star, collected every badge, and defeated all 5 titans. I had a promise to the treasure I cared about that I would help them keep their treasure, and I did.
The person I kept my promise to? My treasure.
Who is my treasure? The Dark Type Boss, Giacomo.
What am I? A Ghost Type Gym Leader.
What do people say Ghost Types are afraid of? Dark Types.
Well, actually, that's a lie. Why you may ask? I actually love the dark.
So if someone tells you that Ghosts fear the Dark, listen well.
Ghosts may be weak to it, but they don't fear the Dark...
Ghosts Love The Dark.
-------------
(First attempt at that and wow. That was just... ._. I had a lot of burnout this week due to Finals, so sorry if this wasn't as good as the others. I did try to make it as good as I could though-!
Also at multiple moments in time I came up with a different AU for Scarlet and Violet called Scarred Scarlet and Tattered Violet. After a theory I thought about with the Four Sacred Treasures being related to the Rivals in someway, I came up with an idea for the AU to be if the Player had failed to help out the rivals and become a champion and drew some drawings for it as well. Which, at this point, makes me scared of what angst my mind can think of, if given a bit of details to work on an angst. I like the idea I came up with, but it involves the aftermath of what happens with the Rivals and the MC/Player, and I hate what happens with Arv and Pen... [forgive me Arven and Penny- q.q I made your stories too traumatizing-]
At some moments while I was writing, I had to remind myself I was working on the x Reader, not the AU because my mind swapped to multiple topics whenever I wrote, got distracted, then stared back at my phone. But I got this one-shot done at least! So yee yee! :D
Also did you like the little twist of (Y/n) being Cassiopeia's/Penny's little brother? :D I thought it would be a little interesting, but I didn't know how to show that they were related, except for the small note at the beginning, and the little bit at the end.
Yee, this was a little hard to come up with, so sorry for taking too long-
I cannot confirm if it will or will not happen again- o.o")
