Chapter 58: Commanders*

Malva didn't scream when I chanted the exorcism to her skin with the holy water and rosary attached to my body. She was covered in the water after Vaporeon splashed her, and Gardevoir still had enough to hold in the air. It wasn't the entire tank full, but it was enough to carry one person inside.

I finished the exorcism and just stared at Malva blankly staring at the wall with black tears running down her cheeks "Bloody tears are a sign of death approaching..." she said, weakly "I never felt so much pain... but once my body disappears for good, I'll be free from the mistakes I've done" she sighed, leaning back on her throne "Maybe one day I can finally see the Pokémon that will follow me after I die... and better yet, the Pokémon I let take part in the war..." she closed her eyes as her body slowly started turning into ashes "Your mom would had continued to roam the world by herself... I felt like I at least caused a good thing to happen" she smiled at me "If I didn't suggest finding her, Diantha might not have fell for the king and made you" she held my cheek dripping tears "You're crying? Don't tell me it's for me"

"You deserve happiness, Malva..." she chuckled and closed her eyes again.

"My only wish is to find a better life if I ever become reborn. I want to see my Pokémon... I want to be with them forever" she shed on last tear and smiled for me "Good luck, Princess" I wanted to hold her face, but she was already gone. I dropped to my knees and cried on my arms on the throne, giving time to myself to let out my sorrow I felt after she disappeared with her Pokémon she used to battle me. Korrena and Clemont kneeled to me and press their heads on my back, comforting me.

"It's too much..." I tried not crying.

"I know this whole thing is a big responsibility, and you're just one person, but you know you're not alone" Korrena told me "Drasna and Wikstrom will be the challenge, but you have stronger leaders who will be on your side in a bit"

"Malva wanted this, so did Siebold. They weren't the real threat" Clemont said. I know... I know... I just want to take a break, but that's not an option. At the moment of mourning, I wanted to know what my friends were doing and if they were safe.

I wiped my face and stood up "the longer I stay here crying, the longer it'll take to get things done" I almost fell on Clemont and hanged onto his shoulders "I'm exhausted from all that battling and stuff"

"Malva helped you prepare for the next two. They are waiting in their chambers. We'll have a little rest before something else happpens" Korrena patted my back. I nodded, picked up my Vaporeon, and went back down to the bottom floor where the rest of the leaders were waiting. Between them all was Xavier with a worried look on his face.

"Xavier..?" I gasped, not expecting to see him here. He ran to me and wrapped me around his arms. I didn't hesitate to return the hug and held him close "You're okay... Thank Arceus" I sighed, pressing my nose on his neck. He smells like sweat...

"Yannie, why are you all wet?" He asked, playing with my hair. Korrena cleared her throat, saying words I didn't understand. That's what who said?

"A story for another time. I'm exhausted" he picked me up bridal style and faced the leaders huddled in a circle. I relaxed in his arms so I could rest for a moment.

"How did Malva go?" Wulfric asked.

"Quite the emotional roller coaster. She helped her majesty train to take on the others" Clemont explained, confusing everyone "She was also the cause of everything, from what she said. It was her idea to find the queen and force her to make a nation"

"You can honestly say that Malva was the reason why Yannie was able to be born" Olympia said "I'm not quite surprised to hear this. She was kind enough to make up for what she caused, but we still have two demons to go" she looked at Xavier "You may continue with what you were saying" I looked at Xavier confused.

"I came to find you guys and inform that the rest of the army left Victory Road to surround the castle. Very few shadows had disappeared, but the shadows we were dealing with just kept coming back after a ln attack. They end up attacking us by putting everyone to sleep. I want to say that we should start working faster before the army all fall asleep permanently" I flinched "One of our fighters didn't make it after falling asleep"

"W-Who..?" He told me it was one of the vampires I've bonded with back in the frost cavern. I got out his arms and stared at the remaining doors I had to enter.

"I can't let more people die. What gets to the point of no return?" I asked Olympia.

"If they weren't strong to begin with, their energy will drain. It's that simple. That vampire probably wasn't strong enough or didn't feed enough" I bit my lips and turned to Xavier.

"Xavier, please make sure no one pushes themselves! There's a chapel in the castle! If someone is hurt or need anything, report them to the church!" I rubbed my face. He quickly took my shoulders.

"Hey, don't worry. I have things under control. I came to find you to make sure you were aware of what's happening. I'm sorry for pushing it on you when you need to concentrate" he handed me a tall tube of blood "I knew one little vial wasn't enough. Take this and be careful" I shakily took the vile "I believe in you, Yannie" I nodded and leaned to kiss him on the lips, surprising him at first, but was welcomed with a kiss in return. We separated and I watched him run off back down the stairs with his sword. I held my heart and turned to Wulfric and Ramos.

"I want to take on Wikstrom next. Stand by me, you two" they saluted and followed me to his chambers "I'm not going to give in. I'll be back soon" I waved to my friends and went up to the ceiling with the floors moving us up.

"You could had rested a bit longer, Princess" Ramos frowned "you've done enough today. You should rest in the chapel you were talking about"

"Not when my army is in danger. I don't have time to rest!" I glared.

"If you push yourself too much, your performance won't do you any good" Wulfric said. I looked at the tube of blood and squeezed it a little.

"I don't want anything happening to anyone... I don't want anything happening to Xavier. I basically dragged him into this. He volunteered to lead the army, but he could had been safe at home" I sighed "everyone is here for our freedom, but mostly because this is what I wanted. I wanted to free everyone and finish the Peace Treaty. I'm halfway there... I need you two to help me"

"You don't have to say it twice" Ramos bowed his head. I shakily sighed, took the tube of blood, and became face to face with Wikstrom standing by his seat, already expecting me with a dark look on his face. Shadows filled the room. The aura in this room was much darker than the others... I knew I was facing for violent demons, so this doesn't come as a surprise. I had my rosary to protect us.

"You came at last..." He snorted "After all the trouble you've caused, even locking you away wasn't enough to keep you out of the way. Your very existence was a mistake. You don't think coming here wasn't?" I gulped, standing close to my friends and Pokemon. Gardevoir levitated the holy water around us while Vaporeon blended into it "I see you came prepared"

"Of course I did! Wikstrom, I'm tired of the struggles. It's time to do what I'm good at and take you down! I'm sure you don't have time for a battle?" I asked. He laughed.

"You're quite right" Ramos speeded to attack, but Wikstrom was too fast. I raised my rosary and kept it between my hands to pray, keeping the shadows away from interfering. My friends kept trying to land an attack, but nothing worked. I finished the prayer for now and stared at Wikstrom watching me closely.

"You were a commander, weren't you?" I asked "What were you the commander of? Kalos, or Galar?" He closed his eyes and snorted, turning away.

"I was the commander of Galar in the great Pokémon war. I'm sure the others had told you of that story" I nodded "Galar had its own kingdom long ago before the war started. 3,000 years ago, there was a event called the darkest day. We had our own problems to deal with, but that aside, we still manage to take part of war with Kalos. If our search for Diantha ended up in Galar, the kingdom would had revived there instead of here"

"Either way, a kingdom would still be created for the nation you forced on her" I glared "why would you think to bring forth a horrible nation that brought fear to others when your own region build up more fear from a different event on top of the war? You sinned yourself, and became a demon. You let others die. Whatever the darkest day was, you still made your army fight even if everyone was scared. Am I right?"

"It's like you're reading me like a book. It doesn't matter anymore. I am what I am, and I know what I followed. This nation was perfectly fine until you came into the world. I knew taking the kingdom to Galar would had been a better idea. Diantha wouldn't have met that weak royal" my blood boiled at his insult. How dare he insult my father?!

"My father was the best thing that happened to this region! Everyone saw that he had a big heart and believed he'd bring this land better fortunes! Everyone loved him!" I took out my sword I had behind me and pointed it towards Wikstrom "I'll make you take those words back!" He laughed.

"Well then, let us give our word that our contest shall be fair and honorable. Ready?" Our battle between 3 against 1 was immaculate. Even Wikstrom seemed like he struggled to even stand. I didn't bother praying to take him down. With the anger I've build up, my sword ended up pressing his own while trying to push me back. I had the advantage. I didn't want to waste time!

"In the name of our alpha..." I moved my sword back to stab him in the chest at the same time Wulfric took away his sword. Wikstrom fell back to his throne "Under the holy search and spirit guide, I take thee under the light and vanish thy sin!" I lifted my hand with my rosary and Vaporeon made it rain holy water. Wikstrom cried out in pain, begging me to stop "For the souls you let perish in war and darkness! I-" I raised my voice above his screaming and dodged every weak punch he threw. The boys held him down, letting me do what I needed finished. In no time, he started burning in place.

"My word..." he chuckled "I'd say that battle was the most intense I've ever faced, despite me being a commander of ab army of a grand kingdom. My will, which even shakes spreads, trembles so fine a battle as this. I am undone..." he smirked at me "Princess, you are indeed our equal and worthy to enter this lofty hall. You struck down two others of the Elite Four. Though you may be finished, you're not done. She's waiting patiently for you. Do not waver now"

"Do you regret your actions?" I asked. He chuckled and leaned his head back on his throne, ignoring the holy water still raining on us.

"I've seen many people die in my life time. Times were different 3,000 years ago. Unlike today, there wasn't fashion, movies, parks. Houses were made of clay and sticks. You get to see how far civilization became. Though I only came back 500 years ago, I can only imagine what Diantha must've watched her whole life. I bet she never expected to have a daughter fight for freedom and peace" he smiled at me "You really are a piece of work... but you are what you are for a reason. I couldn't do anything, so live better than how I could ever" his body completely turned to ashes. I put my hands together to offer my respects and turned to the boys facing me.

"I still have enough energy, but I think it's time for me to rest. I want to make sure everyone is safe"

"That's the best decision" Wulfric nodded and escorted me back to the others. Olympia faced me when I approached her.

"Is there anything I need to know?"

"It's best that I don't say anything, but you did good" She pet my head "good job defeating the third Elite Four member. You're on your way to do better things" I smiled, taking that as a good sign, and faced everyone else.

"I want to check on everyone!" I said.

"Are you sure? Maybe some of us can take a look" Clemont suggested "Korrena and I can go and check on things"

"You may need the holy water. I can't rest until I know everyone is okay. Everyone, stay here. I'll be back" I ran off "Gardevoir! Create a water barrier to make sure the leaders don't get harmed by the shadows! Vaporeon! You're coming with me!" I held her close and ran for it.

"But princess!" They yelled back to me. I ran pass the shadows taken back from the holy water barrier and made my way to find some of my army fighting against shadows while some were asleep on the floor.

"In the name of our alpha..." I chanted my prayer "Vaporeon! Rain dance!" Vaporeon cried out and summoned a storm to destroy the shadows and awaken the army from their slumber "Don't push yourselves! I don't want anyone over working themselves!" I ordered and ran through as many hallways as I could, summoning rain dance and water gun towards as many targets as I could. I made it to the chapel and was shocked to see how many soldiers were on the ground with missing parts of their bodies, dead.

"N-No..." my blood dropped "No!" I looked around in a panic. Xavier and the other Messengers, along with the servants, looked over to me and frowned "Did we really lose this much people!?" I cupped my mouth "Vaporeon! Rain dance!" She nodded and summoned rain onto our lost soldiers. I prayed long and hard, but they never woke. I saw Sarah and crawled to her body "Please wake up! I don't want to lose anyone because of what I wanted! Please wake up!" I prayed again, but to no effect. Xavier pulled me away "No! Let go! I can still save them!"

"Yannie! No matter how much you beg, they're dead!" He struggled to keep me still "These vampires fought hard for you! They had no regrets!"

"How would you know?! This was my idea! I wanted to start a war to bring back peace and freedom, but I didn't want anyone dying!"

"A war can't go on without death. That's how the game is played..." Steward approaches us.

"Sacrifices are made" Tanner said.

"But in the end... This is what has to happen in order to get peace back" the twins said together "We can't have happiness unless you finish what you start. People must die in order for others to be happy. That's what a war is about. You held an army of vampires who believe you can save everyone. We might not know you as much, but we always knew you liked seeing the beauty in things" Mara and Lara took out a piece of paper from their pockets "We held onto these for a long time after we confiscate it from your room" they handed me two drawings of what I drew when I was younger. I was standing between my parents with a crown on my head, and the other drawing had me standing with my back turned and facing a crowd of people.

"I drew this when I saw it in a dream before" I guess somewhere in my heart I just wanted to be a good princess to my people, even if they were looking at me.

I put the drawings away and faced everyone around me. I turned to the servants still sitting where I last saw them "Please be patient, everyone. I'm working as hard as I can to get things done" I picked up Vaporeon and handed her to Xavier, confusing them both "I'm depending on you. Vaporeon's body is made of water and carries a well enough amount of holy water. If anyone is in trouble, let her fight with you"

"But what about you?" He asked me.

"I have one more demon to take care of. I have a personal grudge against this one. I'm glad I came before more people can die in their sleep" I frowned at Sarah sleeping peacefully. I gulped and made it to the exit again "I'm glad I checked up on everyone. Wait for me..." Xavier gave a small wave, sad to see me go. Vaporeon frowned and cried out to me. I waved and made it back to the top floor, where everyone was facing Drasna facing them with a smile.
