Chapter 49: Snow•

I flipped through dad's journal while Xavier and I were sitting on a bench, watching the snow falling in Dedemille city. I was reading over a page that were stuck together, seeing something that almost blew my mind. Seriously, it gave me a headache every time I stared at the name.

"Legendary Pokemon; Xerneas" I said to myself, rubbing my forehead, trying not to think about where I knew that name "those who saw it was overwhelmed by its power. They were only able to say that this Pokémon, Apparently, can control energy. It gives life energy to plants and Pokémon, and makes them full of vitality again. When it loses its energy, it goes to sleep in a secret place" I closed my eyes, seeing my mom facing a dead tree. I shook my head before I accidentally cause myself to go into a episode.

"Reading your dad's journal?" Xavier asked. I noddedz

"Yes. It's about a few thousand years old, so I'm sure my mom got to be around that lifetime when it was still awake" I stood up "I feel like the legendary Pokémon Lysandre mentioned has something to do with his stupid plans. I'm afraid I won't be able to participate very well"

"Why do you say that?"

"Olympia mentioned that I will see something that may trigger my moms past" he stood after me.

"Don't worry, I'm here. I was there when you first got triggered" I looked at his determination and frowned.

"I'm sorry again for making you worry. Will you tell me what exactly happened?" He looked uncomfortable "just before it started. You can be careful with your words" he nodded and looked up.

"I was carrying you back to Lumiose, and you were awake by the time we were close to the entrance. This man that was probably 9 feet tall was in the way. As soon as you saw him, your eyes widened for a bit and you just started screaming after he left. That's all I can really tell you. I had to call for an emergency and a few hunters came to escort you back to the academy. They held me back, like I did something wrong" I sighed "but they were just holding me back because I would chase after you and slow them down. I felt hopeless..."

"I'm sorry you went through that" I frowned and looked around "I'll try not to get myself into those situations"

"It's not like you have a choice" I shrugged and looked back at him "You said you wanted to do something before we investigate the city?" I smiled and walked up to the sidewalk.

"Yes!" I took out the piece of paper I got from Layla's pocket when she passed. There was an address and a note where the folded up part was 'to who this may reach, if I were to ever be found dead in this castle, please take this address and return this necklace to my family. In such a dangerous place, I never know how long I might live' I bit my lips, shaking a bit "I'm going to visit Layla's family and return her necklace to them" he frowned at me shaking "B-but can I do this..? What can I possibly say..? They'll blame me" I bit my lips "I've been waiting for this day when I arrive to this city with this necklace. I even got Ricardo and Lilith's dad to fix it for me... I wouldn't know how to explain to them what happened..."

"Hold on, why would you say that?" He shook my shoulder a bit "why would they blame you? They will feel grateful that you're the only one in that castle that bothered to do it. I don't know about any of the staff, but you would had been the only one to do it after what those monsters did" I didn't have the heart to explain what happened to Jasmine after she killed her childhood friend. "Don't feel hopeless"

"I don't, but I really needed to hear that" I looked at the necklace with the pearl attachment "Will you walk me there?"

"Of course" I nodded and walked ahead of him, letting him walk behind me like the hunter he was while I looked for the address on my own, since it's what I wanted. Eventually we made it up a windmill tower attached to a house that someone directed us to.

"It was up a hill. I didn't think the house would be attached to a large spinning thing" I said

"It's called a windmill" Xavier chuckled. I scratched my head, knowing that, but didn't think to really call it that out loud. We approached the door and I got cold feet "Don't worry, you got this" Xavier massaged my shoulders "I'm here with you" a shine came out my bag. Kirlia spun around and smiled at me "see? Even Kirlia can feel your stress. This will be serious, but you can offer them closure" I took a deep breath and nodded, looking at the wooden door and knocked on it. I jumped when someone responded.

"Coming!" T-they're coming! I'm not ready! Xavier patted my shoulders again, supporting me. Again, I took a deep breath and waited for the door to open. A few moments later, I was face to face with a woman who looked so much like Layla that it was overwhelming "Hello" she looked confused "may I help you?" I gulped, unable for respond.

"Hello" Xavier smiled "We're with the Hunter's corporation" he showed out his trainer card. I quickly took mine out in a panic and accidentally tossed it at the woman. She caught it and looked at it surprised.

"Oh my! I recognize this face!" The woman smiled at me "You were on tv! At the fashion show!" She held her chin "I wanted to see the show again, but they removed it for some reason. To what do I have this pleasure of meeting such a inspiring young lady?" I quickly waved my arms in a panic again, then watching her see my title "oh?" She frowned at me "a specialist..? I heard about you on the news" I gulped "Are you.. the princess? You came from the castle, am I right? The news said that you were probably held captive by vampires... so"

"I-I..." I cleared my throat "I came to see Layla's family" she opened the door and welcomed us in.

"Please have a seat" She gave me back my card. I bowed and walked in, feeling how homey this place felt. It was warm and very open. What a place to be in... I wish I lived in a place like this my whole life.

There was a little girl sitting on the couch, playing with her dolls, a man in the kitchen washing dishes, and a boy a little older than the girl playing video games next to his Sneasel.

"Honey, we have guest!" The woman said to the man "please have a seat!" She gestured us to sit on the couch across the one the girl was on. The little girl looked at me and gasped.

"Oh! Mommy! It's the pretty girl from tv! The one that did the magic!" I blushed, knowing she was talking about the mega evolution. I shyly waved and sat down next to Xavier. The woman sat down before the man came while drying this hands.

"Hey there, my name is Erick" he came to shake our hands and sat beside the woman.

"This is my husband, and I'm Aubrey. These two are our children, Andy and Claudia" Aubrey smiled, shaking a bit "Honey, these two came from the Hunters Corp" she bit her lips.

"Oh?" Erick looked at us surprised "These two? So young? Well I'll be!" He laughed "Young folk! Gotta be inspired by their spirit!" He wrapped his arm around his wife, who felt a bit uncomfortable. She must know what's going on if she knew I came from the castle.

"Thank you, sir. We work hard to make sure everyone is safe" Xavier bowed his head "we didn't come here under the corporation. This is a more personal matter my partner wishes to discuss. It's rather serious, so I recommend the children to leave if possible. It's about a young woman named Layla" Aubrey hurried them out the room in a whisper. This made Erick stiffen.

"W-What is it that we need to discuss about our daughter?" She asked, hands shaking. I bit my lip and looked down. Xavier held my hand, giving me a nod. I nodded and turned back to them looking worried.

"I have lived in captive in the league castle for most of my life. I was given the chance to finally explore the castle, and the first person I ran into was Layla. She was very polite and nice. She was my first friend, but I'm sorry to say that..." I couldn't continue. I just set down a black velvet box I had the necklace in on the coffee table in front of us. They took it and saw what was inside. Their faces were mortified "I wish I had the chance to save her, but I couldn't... forgive me" I held back my tears, but I couldn't.

"We thought this might have happen since she hasn't contacted us for the pass year..." Erick frowned, rubbing on Aubrey's back as she cried in her hands "there was no way of knowing what happened to her, but she worked in such a dangerous place. I hate to say that I'm not surprise that happened there, but still..." he covered his eyes "You brought us her necklace, the one we gave her for her birthday when she was a little girl" he stood up and bowed to me "I appreciate your bravery to bringing this to us... We can finally rest now that we know she no longer has to suffer in that place" I stood to face him.

"I wish I could had done something... I'm so sorry!" Aubrey stood and took my arm.

"I don't expect anything from you. You suffered enough and you took the time to bring this to us. We are grateful... Thank you, Princess" she bowed deeply to me. I frowned, gripping on my scarf. I couldn't control my sobs and completely broke down right in front of everyone. Layla's parents came to hug me, telling me that it was alright. Being held like this reminded me of my parents...

"I'm trying my best to make sure no more innocent people get hurt... so far, I was able to prevent more vampires from attacking the innocent. I'm close to my goal" I said.

"We are encouraging many people to donate as much blood as they can so the spread of sudden attacks can continue to decrease. We wouldn't want anymore people getting hurt" Xavier said. Aubrey smiled.

"I understand. To think King Danny had a daughter... You, as a specialist, so talented... already making a difference. Tell me... Did you at least make sure she had her last breath with you?" I nodded, frowning more "Good... I'm happy to hear that" she set down the jewelry box to take the necklace out so she can attach it around my neck. W-What..?

"W-Why..?" I asked, holding the necklace.

"This is our thank you for taking the time out your busy schedule to come visit us. I hope this necklace will always remind you that our daughter was with you before you got to leave that place. You are truly making a difference. I know you are" she shook my hands together "Would you like to stay and have dinner with us?" Before I got the chance to respond, Absol came out and looked around.

"What is it, boy?" I asked. Xavier rushed to the front door and quickly opened it, getting caught by a sudden blizzard outside "W-What?!" I gasped "where did that come from!?" Absol ran out "Wait!"

"We got to go!" Xavier yelled and ran out, covering his face with his arms. I turned back to Layla's parents and bowed to them.

"I'm sorry I couldn't stay a chat, but I feel it is necessary for you to be together after the sudden news. I wish you all closure and hope" I forced a smile and held the necklace "I promise I'll keep this safe with me" I looked over to see the kids hiding by a wall, hugging each other and crying, like they heard everything. I bit my lips and bowed to them too before running out the door into the blizzard that came out of nowhere!

"Yannie!" Xavier came over to me "Absol went up the mountain! Let's hurry! The Frost cavern is probably where he went into!" I nodded and held his hand to rush us through the cold winds blocking our view of the mountain. Soon enough, passing through the harsh wind for miles without stopping and only listening in on Absol's cry, we entered a silent cave covered in ice.

"Wow..." I gasped at the glittering wonderland "This is so pretty!" I shook from the cold "but it's so much colder in here than outside"

"I would think so. This place is actually made of ice" Xavier wrapped his shoulder around me to help keep warm. Absol growled from a distance, calling me.

"Absol! What is it, buddy?" He waited for me to come closer. Xavier and I had a hard time trying to get through the slippery floors.

"This is difficult..." Xavier groaner. Absol jumped towards us and forced us to get on his back. As soon as we were on, he dashed off through the cave like light!

"I didn't know Absol could carry two people on his back!" I yelled out, yelling through the wind "Why are we going to fast!?" Is there a big threat that Absol senses?

After entering a few cave entrances to different parts of the mountain, we hopped off and peaked into the final cave with a deadend inside, where we saw a boy holding a hunter's sword at a pair of Team Flare grunts standing in front of a fainted Abomasnow on the wall.

"I'm warning you! Step away from that Pokémon or I'll cut you vampires into pieces!" The boy shouted angrily.

"We're not going anywhere, kid!" One of them yelled back at him "to mind your own business somewhere else!" The boy groaned and jumped at them with the sword. I gasped as Xavier ran into the cave to block the attack with his own sword and pushed him to the ground.

"You there!" Xavier looked down at the boy. The boy looked at him and pointed his sword at him, even if he was on the floor. I quickly stood behind him to make sure nothing too serious happens.

"What? Are you a vampire too?! You want a piece of this?" The boy shouted.

"Who are you? You have no right to hold that hunters sword!" Xavier stabbed his sword into the ice "Only certified hunters may hold a sword with pride, and you are not a hunter!"

"H-How do you know that?" I asked, worried. The boy became much more angrier and jumped up to aim the sword at him. Before I had the chance to do anything, Xavier side kicked his stomach and send him flying to the walls as his sword went the opposite direction.

"Team Flare does not attack people. If you were part of the academy, you'd know that these vampires don't do anything. It's against the rules to attack a vampire who hasn't attacked anyone"

"They hurt that abomasnow!" The boy shouted. I snapped my fingers at Absol to have him jump in front of the grunts so they wouldn't go anywhere.

"They might have" Xavier went to press his foot on the boys chest "But it's illegal to attack a human with this sword that's not even yours. I'll report this immediately"

"Easy, X" I begged "We don't know what happened here" the boy looked at me for one moment before snapping his eyes wide open. He got Xavier off of him like nothing and suddenly ran at me, reaching his hands to wrap around my neck and pin me down to the floor.

"You!" He yelled at my face "I'll kill you for what you did to my sister!"
