Chapter 18: Spell*
"It wasn't easy..." I explained to him my situation on why and how I left. He leaned both elbows on his desk and stared at nothing in particular, looking like he was trying to not feel shocked about the whole thing.
"I-I'm sorry you had to go through all that... It must've been a lot for a girl of your condition" I nodded. He relaxed and leaned normally on his desk "You were amazing to begin with, but to think you've gone this far with a group of hunters and crafters. I'm impressed"
"Mom doesn't even know I'm out here... at least I don't think so. When Xavier and I faced the leader, she told me that they barely noticed that I've escaped after this long" I looked down "They're looking for me. I now fear for the safety of my friends. I bet the other leaders will come after me and all..."
"As long as you hide your eyes, they shouldn't know. The leader that saw you was the only one who saw you, correct?" I nodded "She was killed under your hands after Xavier had foolishly stumbled into her layer. You followed him, and that was the best decision he could had made to bring you along. You saved him from getting killed, and right now that's all that should matter" I nodded quickly.
"Yes! I'm grateful that I got to rescue him! But..." I frowned "I wouldn't had been able to have done it if it weren't for feeding on him" I cupped my face "My body was rejecting me before... I couldn't walk properly because my body was slowly dying. I ate so much to control my energy, but it wasn't enough. His blood isn't like any other. I don't gag or throw up..." I looked at my hands "I become a monster and feed on him. I'm terrified of killing him... I don't want to be like this. I want to be normal and not have to depend on his blood" I sniffled "I crave it so much... That girl shot me with that dagger because she saw I was about to bite him... I'm glad it stopped me, but..." I cupped my face and sobbed "I don't want to be a monster" Augustine got up from his chair and came over to rub my back.
"You know about my daughter, don't you?" I looked up and looked at him, then nodded "She is a vampire that was abandoned in the streets. Despite knowing she was a vampire from the moment she opened her eyes, I took her in anyways. I know there are good vampires out there" that made me think of the man I met in Santalune city "I wanted to get to know a vampire up and personal, and took Shauna as my daughter"
"Was it for a experiment?" I questioned. He chuckled and kneeled down to come closer to me.
"It was. I wanted to see if raising a vampire would change the monster in her. As you can tell, she's very sweet, but has attitude" I smiled a little "I fed her my blood when she wanted it, and it was often. I taught her that she had to act human in order to stay with me. She was scared to be left alone, since she could remember being in that alley alone and scared" Shauna...
"She did as told, and it was very difficult on her. What I told her made her decision making quite dangerous. She only ate human food and refused to drink my blood, saying that she was going to keep her promise. Normally, vampires need blood at least once a week, so when Shauna started getting weak, she started taking my blood more than three times a day. Her hunger increased the more she stayed away from it. For a healthy vampire, especially one who is growing, you would need about an ounce a day in your case..." I flinched.
"But that's too much! That can kill him!"
"A ounce is not too much. This is for children, and since you're a grown woman, you'll need more. You'll need to take in little at a time for your body to get use to it. In no time, you'll only need the blood once a week" I shook my head.
"Even if it's once a week, the average human is said to donate blood once a month. I don't want to take so much that it'll make him weak! He's a hunter! He needs all the energy he has!"
"You've experimented on other blood types, right?"
"I have. Every one that the castle offered me. From the common to the rare. I was forced to taste them all and got sick after"
"But you recently discovered Xavier's blood. Who is there to say that there might be more like it that you'll like?" I shook my head.
"The chances on that isn't very high. Even if I did manage to find someone like that, I don't want to hurt them either"
"Yannie, this is for your own sake"
"Xavier is a Hunter!" I raised my voice, feeling angry at myself "I don't even know how I'm still alive up until this point! There's no reason for me to keep living! I know mom tried her best to keep me alive, but I rather starve than know I have to hurt someone!" I shut my eyes, shaking "My body is still dying! I'm so hungry..." I sobbed loudly "I don't want to hurt anyone! I don't want to hurt Xavier! There's no reason why I should still be alive. If I never left my room, I wouldn't have been the cause of my friend or my Pokémon dying..." I shook my head "by the time mom came home... I would've probably already be dead"
"You can't be so hard on yourself. The fact that you're alive is miracle"
"Xavier is my miracle!" I looked away "my life is in his hands... and his life is in mine" I stood up. Augustine followed after "I want you to tell my mom that my body failed on me... I died alone and hungry. My vampire heart starved to death"
"Yannie, think about this! Your mom worked so hard to keep you alive!" I looked down.
"I never asked to be a princess... I didn't ask for so much complication due to my existence"
"Stop it, Yannie" I looked at Augustine with his serious expression "That's the same thing as asking for your mother to not fall in love with a human" I frowned "Your mom is the very first vampire to ever exist. The Elite four are demons who had found her and wanted to use her powers to create more vampires" I turned my body away and hugged myself "She didn't have a choice in any of this. She might be queen, but she had no choice to do everything the Four wanted her to do. It was her choice to fall in love, and it was her choice to keep you alive" he came up in front of me, seeing me balling tears out my eyes "She knew you could be a difference, but she feared for the sake of your body. Don't make me be the one to tell her your body failed before she gets to see you" his face was full of pain, I couldn't even look at it.
"How can I be a difference..? Look at me! I'm disgusting" I opened my arms "I don't know anything about this body. I don't know the next time I'll jump Xavier and take his blood. What if I can't stop? If he dies, I will too. There's no going around it"
"We'll figure something out. After his punishment, we'll talk to him"
"Where is he?" He walked me out his office and escorted me to the elevator where me and my friends came from. I looked over to the little waiting area and spotted Shauna sitting on the couch, staring at the floor with a miserable look on her face.
"Shauna?" I walked up to her and kneeled down so I could look at her. She looked up at me and frowned more "What's wrong?" She looked away without saying anything. She's here by herself... Did she hear everything..?
"Shauna" Augustine called, getting her attention "It's around lunch time. Why don't you take Yannie to the cafeteria?" Shauna stood up.
"There are students there at this time. Tierno and Trevor are there now" she said "I still haven't found any contacts for you to wear" oh right, my contacts were missing "Might not want to go where people can see you"
"I'd go if I had a set of contacts" I said. Augustine handed me a contact case. I took them and saw brown contacts "What happened to the ones I was wearing before?"
"Your body was overheating from the poison Sina injected in you. You eyes burned them off" He explained.
"Right" I looked at the case. Vampire eyes are very strange... They change for various reasons and are able to produce different abilities. The normal crimson colored iris are natural for every vampire.
When they glow a bloody red, it signs that they are hungry. When their pupils grow large enough that it covers the whole iris, they're angry. When their whole eyes turn black, they're insane.
With my case, when their eyes are bloodshot, they have developed a life threatening condition that may cause their life. It usually causes the eyes to get very hot enough to burn something like contacts. At the time I had my eyes like that, I couldn't think straight. All I thought about was how it happened to me.
When I looked at my reflection, I was shedding bloody tears. Bloody tears were never anything I ever heard of before, so I had yet to know why I was shedding them, but from seeing my human self having them in my dream, and given that I have them every time I'm in the middle of dying... It could be for that reason.
"Ready to go?" Shauna asked "there's a bathroom right over there to put the contacts on" I nodded and looked back at Augustine.
"Shauna's eyes... Are you able to do it to other vampires?" I asked.
"I've tried it before, but it ended up making them blind. Shauna was the only success, only to develop color blindness" I nodded and left the the restroom. So changing my eye color is out of the question...
It took at least half an hour for me to put on these stupid contacts. I kept blinking and almost dropping them because of my long eyelashes. Why is this so difficult!?
Shauna and Augustine kept asking if I was okay, but I had to keep lying and say I was fine. I was certainly not fine. All this frustration was making me more hungry and my arms and finger were tired!
"Finally" I sighed and looked at myself in the mirror, staring at how I looked with brown eyes "Even changing my eye color makes me look ugly" I sighed and walked out the restroom, seeing Shauna sitting on the floor while playing with her phone.
"Sorry I kept you" I said. She glanced up at me before standing and chuckled.
"Let me guess. You took a long time just to put on your contacts"
"How can you tell?" She walked into the restroom to wash her hands and later come up to point at my eyelash. I looked up and saw a contact there! What?! I just saw it in my eye not too long ago! "Seriously?!"
"Let me help" she laughed and sat me down on the couch to stand in front of me and force my eye open.
"Where is Augustine?" I asked, standing still while she put my contact back in my eye. She was quick to do it and backed away with a satisfied look on her face.
"He went down to see the students in the cafeteria. Let's go" I nodded and followed her into the elevator. It was a silent ride. I glanced at Shauna staring at nothing in particular, thinking about something, I assumed.
"Is something the matter?" I asked. She looked at me and smiled.
"Why would there be something wrong?" I frowned.
"I didn't say if something was wrong" she sighed and looked down again "Do you want to talk about it?"
"Not really" She had this expression when I walked out the office. I sighed and looked up at the ceiling.
"You heard everything, didn't you?" She went stiff. That showed that was what was bothering her "What's bothering you? About what Augustine said about you? Or is it me?" She quickly faced me.
"I already know everything my dad and I went through" she got defensive and looked down again "You're..." The elevator doors opened. I gagged at the smell and pinched my nose at the disgusting smell of blood. Shauna smelled it as well and ran out the elevator towards the end of the hall.
I quickly followed and we ended up by the entrance where Xavier brought me in from. Shauna and I headed towards the large wooden doors, later seeing two boys carrying one against their shoulders between them, panicking to get him inside as he was covered in blood.
"Someone! Help!" One of them yelled out. Shauna hurried to escort them somewhere. I stared at the four leaving while hearing commotion outside.
"What happened?!" Shauna asked from the distance.
"A vampire attacked outside!" I gasped.
"In broad daylight!?" They left into a different hallway where I couldn't see them anymore. I decided to take matters into my own hands and hurried outside to see a group of students surrounding a vampire hissing at them.
Many of the students were too scared to get any closer while some others were only bold enough to hold their weapons to keep the vampire from getting to close to them.
"We have to tame it before a hunter arrives!" Tierno shouted at everyone. Trevor was instructing them to be careful with the vampire and to not do anything rash, since they were newbies who happen to be in the field.
I looked back at the female vampire out of breath, glaring at every individual. I bit my lip and glared at her. She is... I know exactly who she is.
"Where are the hunters?!" One student asked, looking away from the vampire. She took this opportunity to jump him by grabbing his throat and pin him to the grass, causing more of a panic and the students scattered back.
"Stop!" I shouted angrily. Everyone quickly looked at me. The vampire looked up at me and flinched, seeing me walk up towards her with the glare that often terrified other vampires up to this point.
I snatched a sword from a near by student and walked to point it at the vampire's face while the boy under her was shaking and crying. I pointed the sword on her neck and lifted up her chin.
"Get off of him" she just stared at me, trying to move pass my intimidation "NOW!" I glared harder, making her cower and stand up to let the boy run for his life and hide behind Trevor and Tierno.
"Y-You..." the woman whispered, shaking from her anger. I lifted the sword to pull her back on her feet.
"Y!" Tierno panicked. I lifted my hand to shut him up.
"You attacked a student. Explain to me why is that? Why did you attack in the middle of the day in the middle of a school like this?" I sharped my eye before she had the chance to find a way to leave "Don't you dare leave. I will kill you on the spot" my free hand twitched.
"Viola..." she glared "A Hunter killed my sister..." I snorted and kicked her in the stomach, making her barf and kneel to me.
"A Hunter didn't kill her, Alexa" she snapped her head to look at me in shock "I did" her body started quivering and she looked down. She shouted above her lungs in the air with her whole eyes immediately turned black.
"Y-You..!" She jumped to aim at my neck to grab me. Simply looking at my eyes was enough to make her freeze and only hold her hand inches away from my neck. She kneeled down and stared up at me, crying.
I lifted my weapon in attempt to stab her forehead. It wasn't enough to kill her, so without thinking, I raised my wrist to my mouth to bite on, then when Augustine's voice yelled out to me, I stopped and snapped out of it halfway.
"Yannie! You mustn't!" He yelled out. I turned to him, still a bit out of it. From the corner of my eye, I felt Alexa about to sprint away. Without letting her move at least a step away, I jammed the sword into her ankle and locked her into the dirt with the sword. She shouted in pain and hid her face in the dirt.
"Who said you can leave?" I snorted "Listen to what I say and we won't have problems" she just nodded and groaned. I glanced around at the students standing long ways away from us, but could see everything I was doing. Tierno and Trevor were closer, but were baffled at what I just did.
Augustine walked up to me and held my shoulder and hand gripping on the sword. He felt me shaking like mad, seeing how terrified I felt to see myself behave this way.
My body finally relaxed. I let go of the sword and ran out the gates of the academy, sobbing while cupping my mouth. That wasn't me... That wasn't me! Is this the blood I was meant to use as the princess..? Please... I don't want to let it happen again.
