Chapter 12: Attack*
"Someone's coming..." Shauna and I said at the same time. Tierno hurried to bring us behind him while the others stood shoulder by shoulder, looking at all directions before a body came from behind the shadows and approached us.
It was a man who looked to be around Dean's age, with pale skin and glowing red eyes that signified that he was ready to attack...
"Look what we have here... a couple of humans wandering around the woods..." he chuckled. I gripped on Xavier's sleeve while shaking. That's a real aggressive vampire...
"Don't worry girls, we'll handle this" Tierno said, taking out his blade. Xavier smiled at me and took out his sword and readied himself for the fight.
"What do you want? We're trying to get pass" Trevor said. The vampire chuckled and took out a Pokéball. Xavier lowers his sword and took out his own.
"Is it a battle you want? Tell me, is it the same old thing every time? Who ever loses, dies?" He asked in a serious voice. I never seen him so serious... it made my heart race for some reason.
"Actually... I'll spare the old bet. If I win, you have to sacrifice one of your friends or yourself" he pointed at me "maybe her in the cute red skirt? She looks pretty cute" Xavier glared and threw out Froakie.
"Over my dead body! You're not having her! She's mine!" I blushed. D-Did he mean that..? "I'm not losing to a worthless vampire like you! Bring it on!"
"Xavier..." Shauna held my hand and nodded, making me feel better about letting Xavier do this. He's a professional now... I should believe in him. We have a whole group behind us, so I don't have to be scared.
"Ah..." the vampire chuckled "you have a lot of energy... I like it. I can't wait until I win and see who will be mine" he sent out an injured Fletchinder whose feathers were halfway missing and scratch marks were everywhere. How could he do that..? The poor thing looks too weak and helpless to fight but was being forced to.
"Froakie! Use-" I grabbed Xavier's hand before he could make a demand.
"No, don't hurt it!" I frowned "Look at it" everyone looked at the Fletchinder having a hard time standing up "Are you stupid!?" I glared at the vampire observing me "You really think you can win with a injured Pokémon!? I knew your kind were heartless and pretty stupid, but this is another level!"
"Don't worry, Yannie" Xavier patted my shoulder "I got this" he looked back at Froakie waiting for a demand "Looks like we won't be having the traditional battle you were expecting. You should really look at your Pokémon before deciding to battle with it"
"Fuck off. My Pokémon does what I say even if it kills it" I glared at the vampire's logic "So you're saying you don't want a battle?" Xavier raised his sword, making it obvious "Okay! I was going to make it easier on you, but if you insist. This was going to be this Pokémon's last battle, so might as well get rid of it now" the vampire kicked it away towards us. I gasped and carried it into my arms, watching it crying at the pain on its side. No... not again.
"Froakie! Use your cotton on his eyes!" Xavier yelled. Froakie made a cotton ball appear in its hands and blinded the vampire with it.
"H-Huh?! Hey!" He hissed "What gives?!" Xavier glanced at me hugging Fletchinder.
"You might want to look away" he aimed his sword and ran up to the vampire to slash the blade through the vampire's neck, causing his head to fall off. I gasped and cupped my mouth. H-He killed a vampire just like that!
"Nice!" Shauna ran up to the body and took out a syringe to take the blood and transfer it into a small jar before the body disintegrated into dust "damn. Did you have to remove the head? Now I can't even collect more samples with this stupid little syringe " she sealed the bottle and handed it to Xavier "That's yours. You earned it" he nodded and walked back to me holding Fletchinder while Shauna collected the dust and kept it in a bag with words on it.
"Hey" Xavier kneeled to look at the Pokémon in my arms.
"It's weak... We should take it to a Pokémon center" I frowned.
"The blood the vampire might have given it must've wore off by seeing its condition. It's not healing on its own. Don't worry too much about it. With this, it'll be fine" he lifted the small bottle and opened it to give to Fletchinder before I moved it away.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm trying to save it" I shook my head and stood up to walk away "Yannie?"
"I can't let you do that, Xavier. Your plan to defeat and kill the council will effect Fletchinder greatly if you end up lucky to succeed with this crazy idea"
"The council? What's she talking about, X?" Trevor asked. I looked down at Fletchinder crying and set it down to give it some Oran berries for energy.
"I will not allow you to insert any blood to any Pokémon until you tell me you're abandoning this stupid plan" I glared at Xavier.
"What's the big deal? Froakie has a dose of some right now" my face went pale "What? What is it? Is that bad?" I looked down "Come on, explain. I know you know a lot and you know I'm willing to listen-"
"How could you do this to your Pokémon..?" I slowly stood up and confronted him about it "You're an idiot!"
"H-Huh..?" He raised his hands.
"How can you be so stupid!? You said you knew that killing a leader will weaken the vampires that made bonds with them! It's the same with the Pokémon that took their blood! Xavier, they're invisible! They have power no other vampire has! You just risked your own Pokémon!"
"Yannie!" He took my shoulders "Don't you think I already know this?" I flinched "I knew about risking so many Pokémon and even people who took in the blood, but it's for the sake of the rest of humanity" I slapped him across the face.
"No! That's what you don't understand! Killing a leader will not weaken anyone! It will kill them!" I started crying "You're going to kill your own Pokémon, all the others, and people who depend on that blood to feel better. This is ridiculous! How do you think people got their medicine before these monsters ruled?" I covered my face "Those people and Pokémon who took the bonded blood will die... You'll be killing part of the population and all those poor people and Pokémon who wanted to get better or wanted freedom will disintegrate just like that vampire did..."
"W-What..?" Xavier slowly came up to me "A-Are you serious..?" He shook his head "Listen, Yannie, I didn't know that was a thing... I'm not planning on letting Froakie die-" I used my fist to remove my tears.
"Why are you people encouraging such risks..?"
"How did you get this information?" Trevor walked up to me "And why doesn't anyone know about it?" I slowly looked at him, seeing him turn blue at my serious expression.
"How did you feel when you heard it? Scared? Shocked? Panicked?" I leaned to his face "Imagine how the region would react if they heard about this? Chaos will arises and vampires would kill humans left to right. Try putting two and two together, will you?" I went back down to pick up Fletchinder and hurried off.
"Yannie!" Xavier yelled at me. I ignored him and kept running to find the exit before I stopped on time when seeing a vampire jump in front of me out of nowhere. At this point, I was already too far away from the group and I was alone.
"Sorry I stopped you" the young vampire girl with roller skates and black eyes covering the whites spoke in a angry hiss "but I couldn't help but overhearing what you said earlier after you killed my brother" I huffed and carefully set down Fletchinder's sleeping body.
"Were you the only one that heard?"
"Yeah, so what?" Her eyes were completely black, showing that she was angry enough to be insane... not even contacts could hide them "You weak little thing... What do you know..? I'll make you pay for disrespecting us like that!" She grabbed my neck in less than a second and lifted me in the air. I groaned and grabbed her wrist to get her off me.
Vampires who are sunk into their anger and make their eyes pure black are insane enough to not pay attention to logic or consequences. Their power and speed increases, making the fight between the human and vampire absolute most of the time. This girl was ready to snap my neck, but I knew she couldn't...
"Tell me what you meant by our bonds with the council will kill the rest of us if they end up dying!" She wiggled my body "Tell me!" My instinct were kicking in again. I calmed myself and looked at her directly in the eyes, making her shake in fear and hurry to let go of me "W-What's this intimidation..?" I rubbed my neck in pain and sat up from where I fell on the grass.
"You put your hands on me..." I hissed. She panicked and fell back, scooting away with her eyes turning back to normal "I'm not letting you live knowing you just disrespect me like that" I slowly grabbed the blade Xavier got me, making her gasp in terror.
"N-No!" She hurried to bow down to me with her head on the grass "please! Spare me!" I narrowed my eyes and threw the blade into her skull, killing her instantly. I finally calmed myself and looked at my shaking hands. W-What did I just do..?
"What just happened..?" I fell on my forearms and coughed from the squeeze she did on my neck. I used my hands to keep me from falling as I felt everyone catch up to me.
"Oh my Arceus!" Shauna ran up to the vampire's body while the boys came up to check on me. I kept coughing and tearing up.
"Yannie! Hey, are you alright?" Xavier asked.
"I got attacked..." I coughed, holding my neck "My neck hurts" Xavier carried me in his arms.
"Hang in there! We're heading to the Pokémon center!" I looked at Shauna finishing up collecting some samples of the vampires blood and took out a box of matches to light while Tierno grabbed Fletchinder and we headed off, leaving Shauna with Trevor.
"I'm sorry I ran..." I said, rubbing my neck.
"It's okay! You were upset! I understand. I'm sorry..." Xavier said, running out the forest.
"I should had told you sooner instead of keeping it to myself..."
"You were thinking of the Pokémon. You don't have to apologize for anything, Yannie" I could see he looked distressed.
"I was..." I looked at Fletchinder in Tierno's arms "will it be alright..?"
"You gave it enough Oran berries to stabilize its energy, so we'll make it and give it the proper care it needs!" Tierno smiled at me "Did you kill that vampire by yourself?" I nodded and looked away "That's really cool! Not many people can do that unless they're really skilled. You were great! I think having you with us will absolutely be beneficial!" I looked at Xavier and smiled. I'm accepted... all because of an instinct I couldn't control due to my royal blood.
"Hear that?" Xavier grinned "You're one of us! Not that I would allow them to throw you out" I nodded and looked at where he was taking me. The big city... This looks to be Santalune city. I've seen it on tv, but it looked more majestic in person. If this city was this amazing, I can't wait to see what Lumiose will look like!
"How are you feeling?" Xavier asked me. I stretched the skin on my neck.
"It's not so bad now" he nodded and stopped running mid place when we arrived to the city and almost approached the Pokémon center
"What are you doing, man?" Tierno asked. I looked at Xavier confused.
"I need to talk to Y alone. You take Fletchinder to get help" he looked at me "Is that okay?" He wants to talk to me alone..? What can he possibly say to me?
"Sure..." I nodded and looked at Tierno looking at the both of us before nodding and rushed off. Xavier set me down on a near by bench and kneeled to look up at me "Xavier... What is it?"
"Hey, I'm sorry I upset you. If I knew about what happens with the council" he looked down "Listen, Yannie. It's a shame that kind of thing happens and it's really serious, and I know you want me to not do this, but I know I still have to" I flinched.
"W-What?" I leaned towards him "You're out of your mind! Think about what you're doing!"
"I already thought it through. Even if you hate me, this is what I have to do. Froakie is going to be fine. A blood transfusion doesn't stay in the system for that long. Sure, many lives will be taken, but think about how many lives we can save" I frowned "You can't make everything perfect. It's a big sacrifice. You have no idea how many sacrifices were made to get where we are now. I know what I'm doing... trust me" I looked down, covering my face at the risky idea.
"You and your risks and experiments... This is crazy" but he does make a valid point. We can't have happiness without sacrifices or pain. It just hurts to know if this plan works, a large population will die and there would be a wide panic of people not knowing what's going on.
"Fine" I sighed "I get it... but the leaders are still very powerful. This experiment of yours could cost you your life"
"I'm aware, but I'm confident" he took my hand "I know I promised I'd take you with me, but I really have to do this" why..? Why does he have to do this? What's going on in that mind of his? "I'll make it. I know I will-" I squeezed his cheeks with one hand to silence him.
"On a scale form one to ten, humans fall under one" I started providing him with a somewhat accurate chart that he ended up writing down "Of course with the council, they will fall under the Elite four, which are about an 8. The council are a 7. If they go insane, they go up by half a point. There's no way you can do this... especially when they become wild"

"A hunter falls under a 3, then..." Xavier looked down "I have to do this... I have to do this..." I leaned over to look at his staring intensely at the floor. I may not know what he's thinking about, but I hate to see him like this "If I just..." he started talking under his breath, probably looking for a plan. I frowned and held his shoulders
"It seems to me that you've set your mind to this... if you must do this, then it can't be helped" he slowly looked at me surprised "I'll go with you"
"You will?" I have a stern nod "Yannie..." he looked hurt "I'm sorry for this..." I smiled and held his cheek
"I owe you for saving my life. I'll be with you to protect you"
"Protect me..?" I knew my body wasn't strong enough to fight on its own, but I thought about my royal blood. If my behavior made that vampire cower at my stare and voice, imagine the council
"Yes" I fist my hands "I'll protect you!" He looked into my eyes before calming himself down, back to how I ordinarily known him. He suddenly wrapped his arms around me for a hug, catching me off guard "Xavier..?"
"Thank goodness... thank you, Yannie. I know I'll feel confident knowing you're there. I'll train really hard and save humanity" I hugged him back, hoping he'll have the strength to defeat them in battle. If they dare to attack him... I'll have to be the one to kill them.
"How are you feeling?" He asked, letting go. I showed him my neck "You ate earlier, so the redness doesn't look as bad like earlier, but it still looks bad. Here, let's go somewhere where you can take my blood" he pulled on my arm, but I pulled back hard enough to make him fall.
"No way! Can you stop?" I glared "I don't want your damn..." I looked around to make sure no one was looking "Medicine. Keep it to yourself"
"But you'll heal faster" I huffed.
"I said I'm fine" he sighed and nodded.
"Oh, speaking of which. Did you bond with the council, or did your mom?" I shook my head. No, we are the living proof of vampires. If we die even without a bond, they all die. Simple as that. I'm not really sure about me, but definitely my mom. What I'm more worried about is if Shauna is bonded, but being raised by a human, I doubt it.
"That's good" he picked me up and took me to the Pokémon center where Tierno was talking to the nurse empty handed. I got myself to stand on my feet, wobbling, and stumbled towards the front desk.
"How's Fletchinder? Will it make it?" The nurse looked at my pained face surprised and later nodded.
"Yes. It's in good hands. Your friend told me everything, so you don't have to worry" I sighed and collapsed on the floor.
"Yannie!" Xavier gasped.
"Y!" Tierno helped Xavier get me to sit up. I rested on Xavier's chest as the nurse came to check on me.
"I'm fine... I'm just really tired" I said, holding my neck.
"What's this?" The nurse looked behind my hand "What happened?"
"She was attacked by a vampire" Xavier told her.
"B-But she killed it on her own! The rest of our group is taking care of the body!" Tierno threw in. The nurse looked surprised before smiling at me.
"How brave of you. That's very impressive. Come on, let's get you some food and put some ice on the wound after I investigate to see if they didn't squeeze to hard. How bad does it hurt?"
"It's just a sting. The vampire needed me to answer a question, so the attack wasn't too serious" the boys frowned at each other "I can really use some food... I'm starving"
"We only ate an hour ago" Tierno said. I needed food. I can't walk properly without it. I feel like something in me was craving Xavier's blood. If I never smelled that scent, my body would had been fine not eating for a long period of time, but... I feel like I'm needing it more and more. The sweet smell... it makes my heart beat so fast.
"Xavier..." I whined, grabbing his neck without thinking. He stared at me doing that and removed my hand to carry me bridal style and face the nurse.
"Let her a room. We'll pay the bill with the dose we collected from the vampire I killed before she got attacked by another" the nurse stared at him with a concerned face before nodding and took me into a specific hall. I was carried for what felt like 10 minutes before my energy drained on its own and caused me to go to sleep.
The scale isn't as complicated as it may seem. The further the chapters go, the more blanks will be filled. Once the subject is introduced, I'll add the new scale. Thanks for reading!
