Chapter 8

Petalburg Forest

I packed Pokeballs, antidotes, and potions. I would need them for the field trip my grade was going on. I had field trips back in Johto. Most had some educational tie to it. But, we always had an opportunity to catch Pokemon. We were taking a field trip to Petalburg Forest to study how Silcoons and Cascoons go through their metamorphosis and evolve. And afterwards we could catch some Pokemon. I was so excited!

"Are you ready?" I heard Abbie call outside my dorm room.

"Coming!" I raced to the door and threw it open. Abbie was at the end of the hall waiting for me. I caught up to her and we talked about what Pokemon would be good to catch. We walked to the front of the school were three buses were lined up. We climbed into the first one and sat beside each other. The bus lurched forward and we were off. Today, was the day for the third years to go to the forest. The first and second years already went.

In about a half an hour we reached the forest. We were all bulged up in a cluster to listen to directions and observe Cascoons and Silcoons. After our academic part of the trip, we had lunch and we were free to catch Pokemon or just hangout for the rest of the time.

I searched with Abbie, but I couldn't find a Pokemon that suited me. We stopped by a river and sat down at the shore. I was frustrated, all I could find were fricking bug Pokemon. I don't have anything against them, but it's just not my style. I was about to say something to Abbie, when we where sprayed with water. I spit out river water and saw it was a Poliwag who was responsible for soaking us. Abbie stood up.

"That's my catch! I just know it!" She yelled excitedly. The Poliwag dove under water and swam away.

"Mind if I go catch it?" She asked. I smiled. Abbie was a good friend. She was always making sure I was included when she did something. She never wanted to see me alone.

"What are you waiting for? Go!" I spun her around in the direction the Poliwag swam and gave her and encouraging push. She took off after the water type and waved over her shoulder. I sat back down and opened Vulpix's Pokeball.

"Vul, Vulpix." She said happily. She made herself comfortable on my lap and rubbed her head against my chest, despite it being semi-wet. I stroked her head.

I heard a twig snap behind me. I cocked me head to the sound. It was Preston.

"Hey." He said, sitting down next to me.

"Hey." I replied. It was silent for a moment. I talked to Preston at Battle Club, but other then that we haven't said a word to each other.

"So, why are wet? Don't tell me you tried to go swimming?" He smiled. His smile wasn't a fake forced smile like some people's. He had a genuine smile that you wouldn't see for another like it for a hundred years.

"I did not! I'm not stupid!" I snickered.

"Okay. Just tell me why you are wet."

"A Poliwag."

"Seriously. A Poliwag!" He laughed.

"Yeah. I was sitting her with Abbie and it drenched us. Abbie went after it and is trying to catch it."

"You moved here from Johto, correct?"

"Yep."

"I'm from Little Root. It's a small town, it's a couple of cities away from this forest."

"Oh." I said scratching behind Vulpix's ears.

"Have you caught a Pokemon yet?"

"Nope."

"I Haven't either. I don't see the point in catching another Pokemon. I already have two, my Blazekin and my Laireon. You can't have more then two Pokemon at the Academy. So, why bother?"

"I didn't know there was a limit."

"Nobody told that? I thought Abbie would've said something."

Preston was about say something when a flock of Tailow scattered behind him. The crunching sound of sticks and grass filled the air. We heard voices. I couldn't tell what they were saying. Vulpix hopped off of my lap and the three of us crept over towards the source of the sound.

We hid behind a bush. I popped my head out from our hiding spot. A man with a long sleeve gray shirt, black vest, black pants, and combat boots was a few feet away from us. He didn't know we were here.

"Arceus, where is that orb." He grumbled. I glanced at Preston he had the same shocked look as me. I brought my head back behind the bush.

"He must be part of the Order of Darkness." I whispered quickly.

"How about we sneak attack him?" Preston suggested. I nodded in agreement.

"Are you ready, Vulpix."

"Vulpix!" She responded.

We jumped out of the bushes. Preston quickly sent out Blazekin. The crook turned around and sent out a Pokemon of his own. A Simisage cane out of the Pokeball.

"Vulpix, Flamethrower!" Vulpix shot the attack at the grass type Pokemon. The Simisage had no time to dodge and was hit with the powerful attack.

"Simisage, use Vine Whip to tie up that Vulpix!" The man said. Vines extended from its back and whipped towards Vulpix. But, they never touched her. Blazekin grabbed the vines and prevented the attack.

"Blazekin, pull Simisage in and hit him with Blaze Kick!" Preston said to his partner. Blazekin tugged on the vines and Simisage was pulled towards him. Blazekin pulled back his leg, fire spreading all over it. He planted it into Simisage's stomach. The grass Pokemon was sent flying to it's masters chest.

Both lay on the ground defeated. We approached the man. He pushed his Pokemon off of him. Preston was quick to ask questions.

"Why are you here? Is there an orb here? Are there any other members of your gang here?"

"I ain't tellin' you nothing, kid!" The man spat.

"I'm no kid." Preston rose his fist to punch the man. A swift gloved hand caught the punch. Another man seemed to appear out of no where and catch the punch. A blinked quickly. Did he have a Pokemon who knew Teleport or was he that fast? The man was dressed from head to toe in black. He had a gray scarf with the ends behind his back. His black hair hung in front of his green eyes.

"I don't mean to pry," said the man appeared in front of us, "but I need to talk to this man." He pushed Preston's fist back. He stumbled a few feet but caught his balance.

"There isn't an orb here. Sithis has recalled your mission. Unless you want these kids to continue beating you." The man turned towards our defeated opponent.

"Shut up, Zero!" He snapped. He returned his Simisage and got into a sitting position.

"Let's go, then." Zero grabbed the man by his collar and lifted him up. I heard sharp noise that sound like wind, but there was none. An Abra appeared above Zero and dropped down on him. He wrapped his arms tightly around Zero's neck. They were trying to get away!

"Vulpix! Flame Burst!" I shouted.

Vulpix fired her attack but was too late. They had gotten away.

Author note: So we have finally met the notorious Order of Darkness. Sorry for being late on updates. Sadly, it may be this way for awhile. I'm very busy and will be gone again soon. There are also many other reasons for my late updates. So please forgive me and VOTE, COMMENT, AND READ ON!
