Chapter 16: Learning to Battle

Chapter 16

Learning to Battle

-Bree-

My pleasant sleep was broke by a Mudkip jumping on me. He really wanted to battle. I rolled out of bed and got dressed in jeans and a yellow t-shirt. I grabbed my fleece on the way out. It was getting colder. After all, it was the beginning of October. I lead Blue a couple of yards away from the dorms, near the fence that went around the school area. Didn't want people running away or getting lost in the forest.

"Okay, Blue you need to follow my every direction. You can't run off or mess around in a battle. Do you got that? Now let's get to training."

I threw Vulpix's Pokeball in the air. She cocked her head to the side. Slightly confused about what was going on.

"Vulpix we're going to train Blue. Could you please go gather some stones for accuracy?"

She nodded and ran off. A few minutes later, she brought back a small pile of rocks.

"Okay Blue were going to work on accuracy. Vulpix is going to throw those rocks in the air and I'm going to have us Water Gun on them. It'll help with landing non physical attacks on agile opponents."

I motion for Vulpix to begin. She positioned her tail under a few of the stones and flicked her tail up, sending the stones to the sky.

"Blue, use Water Gun on the rocks!" I said.

Blue inhaled and filled his cheeks with water. He shot a focused spray of water at the rocks one by one. We moved on from accuracy to strength. Blue lifted, moved, and broke large branches and rocks. Last was speed. I drew a line in the dirt. That would be the finish line. Vulpix and Blue lined up next to each other, ready to run.

"Go!"

They raced off like a bullet from a gun. Vulpix had the lead for the beginning of the race, but Blue started to catch up. They were close to the finish line. Blue started to pump his legs harder. He pulled ahead of Vulpix and crossed the finish line. Vulpix raised her paw and smiled. Blue high fives it and cheered.

"Muuuudkip!"

We took a break. Next, Blue would have to put everything he learned into a battle.

"Vulpix," I said,"do you think you can battle on your own? Blue and I have to battle together."

"Vul, Vulpix!" She said in reply.

Vulpix was a couple of yards away from us. Blue stood in front of me. He was eager for his first battle.

"Let's start things off with Water Gun," I said. Blue obeyed and shot water at Vulpix. She jumped in the air to dodge and followed up with a Feint Attack. Blue skidded to a halt from the impact.

"Tackle," he ran towards Vulpix with his lowered head. He nailed her in the stomach. Vulpix quickly regained her strength and launched a Flame Burst at him. Fire obviously isn't super effective against water but Blue was just a beginner at battling and Vulpix had been battling along side my since elementary school. My point is her attacks would be very strong against a new hatched Pokemon.

Blue's skin was sprinkled with soot and dirt. He spread his feet apart and raised his head.

"Mud, Mudkip!"

"Mud Slap!" I yelled. Blue stuck his hand in the ground and scooped out a pile of mud. He slapped Vulpix across the face, leaving her fur caked with the gooey mud.

"Now, Water Gun!" Vulpix was sprayed with water. The pressure was pushing up against the fence. Blue ceased the attack. That was enough battling for today. I brought them inside. Abbie was still asleep. I turned on the hot water in our bath tub. I squirted soap in the water. Bubbles filled the tub. I shut the water off and lowered Vulpix and Blue in. I brushed my blond hair to the side and got to work.

I scrubbed the mud off of Vulpix. I took a plastic cup with water and rinsed her off.

"Okay, Blue your next." He wasn't in the tub. I looked around the bathroom. I heard the water move. I spun around and Blue pokes his head out from the bubbles and sprayed me with water. My shirt was dripping wet. Blue and Vulpix laughed.

"You think that's funny?" I cupped my hands into the water splashed it on Vulpix. Soon everyone was splashing and spraying each other. We laughed and laughed. I couldn't breathe from all my laughter.

"What is going on her?" Abbie asked. She stood in the middle if the door way. I looked to my Pokemon and shrugged.

"Fun." I said. Abbie left and we continued getting wet.
