Chapter 12

Hatching

"Articuno's Lair is located in the Seafoam islands," professor Ryker was up in front of the class, teaching us about Articuno, "he lives in a iced-over cave- ah, it seems it's time for you to go to your next class. We will finish up our unit tomorrow."

My fellow students picked up their books and bags. They walked to join the running river of kids getting to their next class. I slung my bag over my shoulder and approached my teacher.

"What's the news?" I asked.

"I believe you were right about your vision. I found a place the matches your description and it does mention an underwater orb in my book. I will send Preston the coordinates on his X-Transceiver. You may search for it whenever it works, just don't do it during school and don't wait too long. Sadly, I can't join you."

"Ok," I said,"thanks."

I entered my dorm room to see a very happy Abbie.

"Hey, why are you so happy?" I asked, cocking an eyebrow.

"I went and did some training with Chikorita and Poliwag. And Poliwag evolved!" She squealed.

"Abbie that's great!" I exclaimed. I zipped open my bag and carefully took out my egg. "I thinks egg is about ready to hatch."

I sent out Vulpix and put the egg on my bed. We laid down on my bed and crowd around the egg. Abbie's egg hatched in the middle of Caring for Pokemon class. It was a Magby and it was hilarious. She gave it to the teacher after she caught it so, it could be given to the school day care.

In about an hour the egg had made a small crack. We skipped supper and got some snacks. I really wanted to see this thing hatch. Vulpix had been like a mother watching over this egg. She felt my same excitement. The egg continued to slowly crack. It was well passed midnight when Abbie and Vulpix dosed off. I was wide awake. It was awhile before I felt myself going to sleep. But, the egg started moving and it was chipping away at the shell. I shook my friends awake. A huge part off the shell came off but we couldn't see what the Pokemon was. Finally, the shell broke to pieces. A blue Pokemon with a fin on top of his head and orange cheeks stood before us. It was a Mudkip!

I opened the capsule and he hopped out into my arms.

"Mudkip!" He said, snuggling into my chest. I smiled. Vulpix had been watching over a water type the entire time. Vulpix crawled up my shoulder to get a good look at him. Abbie was at my side beaming.

"I'll name you Blue." I said looking down at the small water Pokemon. He jumped out of my arms and started to play with Vulpix. I laid down on my bed and watched them. Soon they for tired and curled up on my bed side by side. Everyone slept soundly that night.

"Everyone should have their Pokemon hatched. Please hand them over." Said Ms. Thompson. I caught Blue earlier that morning before school. I didn't want to give him up. I felt like I was about to cry when Ms. Thompson came by my desk. I shakily reached for Blue's Pokeball. I was about to hand it to her when I brought my hand back.

"I-I just...can't." I said looking at his Pokeball.

"Hand it over please." The teacher replied. I gave her his Pokeball. She walked to her desk. She placed it on the cart. She was about to wheel it out when a Pokeball opened up. It was Blue. He raced towards me and buried himself in my shirt.

"Mud-Mudkip!" He cried. Ms. Thompson tried to pry him off but was unsuccessful.

"He seems attached to you. I suppose you may keep him." She smiled at me. After class, I sent out Blue and Vulpix.

"Vulpix, we get to keep him. Isn't that great?" I exclaimed. Vulpix and Blue jumped into my arms. I spun around and we happily cheered. "Come on we should catch up with Abbie."
