Ruby's dad is a pokemon breeder. His pokemon partner is an Audino that can mega evolve. He is the one who gave Ruby her Espurr egg.

Backstory

Ruby and her parents originally lived in Kalos. Ruby recieved her first pokemon from Professor Sycamore, before going to explore, when she ran into an injured, timid Raltz. She scooped it up and took it to her dad, who got Audino to heal it. From there, Raltz evolved due to their friendship being high. That's when Ruby caught Kirlia, with no resistance from the Pokemon. The story of how Ruy found Scatterbug is not a happy one. Scatterbug had been abandoned by it's previous trainer, so Ruby stopped to help. She untied Scatterbug and sighed, thinking about how someone could leave a pokemon poisoned on the floor. She took it to a pokemon centre and when it was healed, Scatterbug was really scared. Ruby stayed with Scatterbug until it started trusting her, that's when Scatterbug evolved into Spewpa. Ruby offered to take Spewpa with her, earning a happy string shot to the face! She laughed it off and caught the pokemon. After a few weeks, her parents announced they were moving to Alola. At the airport, Spewpa grew restless, and evolved into Vivillion. When they got to Alola, Ruby's parents signed her up for Pokemon school, and Ruby's Dad gave her the Espurr egg to take care of.
