SR Academy Years Ch 3: Showcase Luck
By the time both of us reach the stadium, we stand behind the big crowd. The big crowd consisting of both the battling club and battling 101, the teacher being Mr. Young himself.
"Okay, for those of you who don't know, both of the clubs are going to be similar. As the battling club will be like any other, as for the 101 club, you'll be learning on a more advanced acknowledgment of battling. Which will relate mostly to announcers and referees in official competitions. Now then, those of you who joined the battling club, go ahead and battle each other here in the arenas. As for the rest of you, we'll be going over a few questions. Who here knows what's the job of a referee during a competition, gym battle, elite four battles, and so on?"
As a few hands go up, I too raise my hand.
"Crystal, why don't you answer the question."
"To ensure that no form of cheating is to occur during the battles. And the only way to tell of a cheat is to know a vast amount of Pokemon and their abilities," I hastily answer as the amount of heads that turn to me.
"Very good, and that answer also goes with an announcer. But to be verbally explaining it to the people that are viewing the match."
"Mr. Young, how are they able to remember all the different abilities that the different pokemon posses?" someone, a boy asks.
"Besides practicing and being around each Pokemon, most of it can be memorized based on what type they are. As most typings have a close relation with their abilities. Say for a water type, some are able to absorb other water attacks for their own energy and health restoration."
"And that some grass types are able to have their attacks increased in the sun?"
"Exactly. For the first day, I would like all of you to go around the arenas, and jot down notes on what abilities you can pick up."
With other students from the 101 class spreading out, standing to the sides of the battles. I walk over to a battle between a Rhyhorn and Machop. Knowing type advantages, the Machop is most likely to win this fight. With a few more commands and close dodges, the Rhyhorn tips over fainted.
Adventuring through different battles, I jot down notes, looking at other's battle styles. Noticing that many here take a more aggressive and offensive style.
Taking more notice to a few battles and trainers using different tactics. One of those battles has Junu in one, going against Leo.
By the time both clubs end, I walk rather hastily back to my room. Almost forgetting about the Kalos Pokemon Showcase; I've never watched it before, but recently, a brand new contestant joined out of nowhere. Bringing a lot of attention to herself, however, many say that she just vanishes by the time they want autographs or pictures.
Opening my room door, I notice that Elysa isn't back. Rummaging through a few of my bags, I find my laptop and start it up. Accidently typing the password incorrectly a few times, before I slow down and type it in slowly and carefully. As it loads to the start screen, I go and grab a bag of chips to snack on. Sharing some with Kayla, I bring up the website of the live stream of the show.
Lucky for us, both of us make it back in time to see the opening of the show.
In a line, 12 contestants with their chosen Pokemon stand proudly, looking to the crowd. Looking through all 12, I see her: Melissa Moon with her Mightyena, Absol, and Zoroark.
As the Theme Performance ends, Melissa passes it with ease with her pokemon and continues on to the Freestyle Performance.
When the announcer calls her name, lights start dimming out, shouts and cheers, even more, louder, and only one light shining on the stage.
As everyone quiets down, Melissa starts her performance. A performance having to do with medieval-themed costumes: Melissa wearing a knight-like armor, her Absol with similar armor pieces, her Zoroark dressed as a mage, and the Mightyena as a villain from the looks of the darker pieces of clothing on it.
"Lupin, scary face!" she commands, as she runs out of the now fading light.
Instantly hit by a horrifying face, gasps fills through the rooms. The large face moving about, looking at everyone in the room, taking up the entire stage. Alongside it, gloomy and somber music plays, before it starts to lighten up as if a hero were to come.
On cue, a light shines to the left, where Melissa and her Absol and Zoroark stand beside her.
"Alexia, future sight then swords dance! Tera, flamethrower!"
With orbs of light flying through the sky, Tera uses flamethrower at the face, emanating light to the stage. The face then moves back in recoil, fading off, but to return once more, angrier than before.
With shining blue swords in the air, Melissa grabs one of it and is sent flying by a boost from her Zoroark. Surrounded by four other swords, she swings in a wide arc with the sword in her hand, she is blasted back with dark pulses from the mouth of the face. Falling in the air, swords shattered, her back facing the ground, she gets caught by her Zoroark.
"Alexia, ice beam!" she stands to her feet and points to the face.
As Alexia runs around the face, over to Melissa, she freezes the entire thing.
"Now Tera, night daze!"
With the light trained onto Tera, she runs up to the large chunk of ice, and as she jumps up, the lights turn off. The only trace of her is a faint red glow in the air, suddenly with flashes of white, she is once again visible. Landing the attack, alongside the future sight.
As she makes contact, a glittering shower of ice shines in the light, making the entire stadium light up in oo's and 'ahh's'.
When the lights come back on, Melissa is on her back, bring licked by her Mightyena. Pushing him off, she stands with her pokemon and bows to the crowd as they go wild.
About a half an hour later when the voting starts, every vote going towards the three remaining contestants, including Melissa. In the end, Melissa wins by three votes, lucky her. As the other performer that is right behind her did an amazing performance as well.
With ending announcements and a time and date for the next showcase, the stream turns off.
"She sure has some talent, doesn't she?"
"Espeon!"
"You think we could compete in it? Have a chance I guess?"
"Es," she says with uncertainty.
"Hmm, maybe another pokemon... then we might be able too..."
"Espeon?"
"What is it?"
Following her trance, she moves the cursor over to a schedule where the next competition would take place; Vaniville. Luckily, it takes place a week from now, on a non-school day. Also at an affordable price, with the amount of money I have with me.
"Well, that sounds like a nice plan. We even have enough money for good seats!"
"Espeon! Espeon!"
"Well, what did I walk into?"
"Oh... hey, Elysa, sorry about that. Just erm.. excited that the next Pokemon Showcase is coming here next week."
"It is? That sounds great, and I assume you plan to go?"
Nodding my head, she continues, "You wouldn't mind if I could come too, right?"
"It'll be fine I guess... but I don't have enough money with me for the two of us."
"Don't worry about that, I have enough for my own ticket, so no worries with that!"
"Okay, then, I guess we better hope we don't have some big assignment or something," I start to laugh.
"Well that would be horrendous, but we do have three days off, and it's on the first day of break," she chuckles as well.
------------
A week flies by, as more and more work piles on top of me. Which I tiredly worked on the rest of the day after school each day and finish. The day before the actual competition is to start, many of the performers walk around the town, either venturing the town, or to meet fans, or just trying to get to the Pokemon center or hotel.
Ting-a-ling ting-a-ling.
Looking over to my window where the sound of the bell comes from, I notice Cerin pawing against the window.
"How did you climb all the way to the
second floor, Cerin? Where's Junu?" I ask as I open the window.
"Zorua!" she exclaims and hops on in.
Once she comes in, I happen to notice that a small bell is attached around her neck.
"Cerin! Come down here right now!"
Peeking back out the window, I see Junu, arms relaxed at his sides, looking right up to my window. As he notices me, he waves, but still with his near blank expression.
"I'll... I'll bring her down for you!"
"Thanks, Crystal."
Looking behind me, Cerin is next to poor Kayla who is trying to take a nap. Cerin on her back playing with the small bell around her neck, the ringing too loud for Kayla.
Giving a small laugh, I walk on over, "Come on Kayla the show starts within two hours, and I told Elysa that we would meet her there in an hour. You too Cerin, come here."
Obediently, Cerin climbs into my open arms as Kayla give a small huff of both annoyance and a huff for not picking her up into my arms. Walking down and outside to Junu, Cerin instantly jumps out of my arms and climbs up Junu.
"Thanks, Crystal. You going to the showcase?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Which performer do you like? Kait? Linda? Melissa?"
"Umm Melissa, why?"
"Meet me near the performer entrance after it ends," he sighs, walking away.
"Okay?"
----------
Huff huff huff
"So-sorry that I'm a little late... Junu wanted to talk to me about something."
"Did he want to ask you out?"
"What! No, just told me to meet him later."
"Well, you got here on time before the line filled up completely. You might want to pick up Kayla just in case."
Picking her up, we wait as the line becomes larger and longer behind us. Soon enough, we finally enter the stadium and take our seats after getting some food from the vendors.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Vaniville rookie class competition. I am Monsieur Pierre, and here is my partner Klefki! For our first performance round, we will do a Pokemon Race and Questionnaire. Where performers will be asked questions, and they must answer them correctly. If answered correctly, they are given a point," he announces, as the stage shifts, "As their Pokemon's objective is to grab the flag and come back with the flag! Which they could still earn points then. Now then for our first three contestants are Melissa, Linda, and Morgan!"
As the performers are lifted to the stage, the crowd cheers on each performer. Each one wearing their style of clothing, Melissa having a Dark-type styled dress and skirt.
Wearing a black and gray dress, with Arceus earrings dangling from her ears.. Looking less pretty than the other two, yet based on her previous performances, must be for the Freestyle Performance.
When the round finishes, Melissa wins by a long shot. As each set of three performers enter the stage for the first event, it finally reaches the last round: the Freestyle Performance.
As Melissa's name is called up, only her Absol and Zoroark is with her this time around.
"Tera, night shade! Alexia, future sight!"
As the Zoroark envelopes the stage in a shadow, the future sight goes into the air, clearing up the darkness.
"Now ice beam!"
The stage crackles in ice until a medium sized chunk of ice appears right in the middle.
"Now, mega evolve and use night slash! Tera, agility and foul play!"
The stage is filled with a blinding white, and at the origin of the light dies down, stands the majestic winged Absol. Then Tera and Alexis zooms side to side, near impossible to trace, cutting away at the chunk of ice.
While Melissa commands them where to go, and hitting her side lightly with her right arm; as if counting, or being worried.
"Now, night shade once more!"
As another blast of shadows envelope the stage, it is once again cleared by the returning future sight. To show a glittering statue of the Lumiose tower, the top and nearby lanterns lit up from the orbs, which somehow stuck on the ice and stays without vanishing.
Everyone is stunned in awe, before cheering on as Melissa and her Pokemon take a bow on the stage. Besides the glorious performance, I'm curious how she made the orbs stay in place without them dispersing.
Two more performers pass on by, with similar amounts of cheers, as soon as the last performer exits the stage, the announcer announces of a short break.
"Wow, these performances seem better than the last one, aren't they, Crystal?"
"Yeah, I'll be right back."
"Okay, be back soon, though."
Moving through most of the parting crowd, I manage to make it to the outer stadium, looking for the bathroom. Finding it rather quickly, I make it just in time before the line becomes too long.
"That was close, wasn't it, Kayla?" I ask her, as the line for the bathroom becomes ridiculously long.
"Espeon."
"Well we better hurry, come on."
Running back to the entrance of the main stadium, I happen to see Junu talking to someone. But with the crowd going back into the stadium, I decide to wait till later to talk with him. Squeezing through the tight crowd, I manage to make it back to my seat just as the ending starts.
"As we have here, our three contestants: Lawrence, Melissa, and Bella. Now please pick up the glowcasters below your seats, and vote for who you think did the best performance!"
Glowing lights fly through the air, as I vote my cast onto Melissa.
"And... our winner is Melissa Moon!"
The crowd roars as she walks up to the announcer, and receives her second princess key.
"Crystal! Let's get out of here before we get stuck out here!"
"Okay!"
With 'excuse me's' and 'sorrys' we make it out as the announcer tells where and when the next show will be held.
"So where did Junu say to meet at?"
"There, I already see him."
Walking over to him, he looks up from his lap where Cerin sits and looks to us.
"Hey Junu, how are you doing?"
"Good, hurry up she usually leaves the first chance she can."
Walking next to security, he flashes a pass to them and points to us while talking to them. With nodding heads, the two security men slide aside, as Junu tells us to follow. Following him down the corridor, we pass by stage crew and other workers who don't pay much attention to us.
Once we reach a specific door, Junu knocks on the door and waits. When the door unlocks, a girl with hair cascading on her shoulders, and looking like the same age as me, peeks out of the door.
"Is Melissa in there?"
Nodding her head, she opens the door for us to enter.
"Hey! Didn't I tell you to not let anyon-. Oh hey, Junu, you could've waited for me to get out first gee," Melissa addresses, appearing from a corner in the dressing room. Also noticing that a small Fennekin follows her.
"Wow! Junu, how do you know her?"
"A relative."
"Wait, so Melissa Moon is your cousin?"
"Yeah, and sorry but on short time here. Darn it, Lupin hurry up in there! Alexia, Jules, go and help him, I've had enough of him whenever we're in these rooms."
"Well, seeing that you still have time, these are my... colleagues at school: Crystal and Elysa."
"Nice to meet you two, though I'm surprised that you two aren't freaking out like most fans of mine," she picks up a small tablet and starts typing something on it.
"Well I'm surprised that you're related to Junu, and Crystal here is usually quiet. Who is she? And why don't you see that Fennekin?"
"Uh-huh," she says, "A friend of mine. I don't let Jules go out with me yet because she isn't trained enough to do the performances. Anyways, I guess while Alexia and Jules are getting Lupin, want an autograph?"
"Sure! Though I really don't have anything for you to sign, heh heh."
"Here, I happen to have some extra electronic covers which I told specifically the company not to make. I swear might as well sue them or something. Then again..." she places one of her hands to her chin before snapping out of her trance and grabbing the two cases on the table in front of her and signs them.
"Thank you so much! Also, these are the only ones, right?"
"Technically, but the company is to release by tomorrow, even though I said no. Anyways mind if I have a word with you, Junu? In private?"
"Uh sure?"
Opening the door, bringing her tablet and her friend following close by, she waits for Junu. With them gone, Elysa and I sit on the only couch in the room, hearing shuffling in the direction where Alexia and Jules went to.
"Absol, absol!"
"Might, mightyena."
"Fen?"
"Absol!"
Looking over to the sounds of Melissa's Pokemon, Kayla hops off my lap and goes on over.
"Mightyena!"
"Absol! Absol, sol!" Alexia barks towards Lupin rather angrily.
"Fen fen," Jules smiles, laughing.
"Okay, sorry that I can't stay long, but I gotta go. Get the stuff Lupin?"
"Absol absol ab!" Alexia continues to flail.
"She says that he wants to have... erm..." Melissa's friend softly speaks, then whispers to Melissa's ear.
"Every time Lupin, did you get the bags at least? I mean seriously how many times are you going to do this!"
"Mightyena."
"No."
Giving a light groan, Melissa storms to the further part of the room, "Why you littl-"
"You did it, this time, you mutt."
"Mightyena, might."
"Wait, you can talk to Pokemon?"
"She can, though she really doesn't enjoy people knowing of it, you see," Junu explains.
"Okay, though what did he do?"
"I swear, every time this happens. Alright, you are going back first, let's get outta here before the paparazzi come over," Melissa appears, as a red beam shoots through the room.
"You sure that it's true, though, Melissa?"
"Which one? The first one I'm very positive, as for the second, absolutely sure, Junu."
"Absol..." Alexia huffs.
"Hey, I couldn't think of any other word right now, okay?" She ruffles the top of Alexia's head.
"Be safe, Melissa."
"I'll be fine, not the first time we actually tried it. Though seriously, it'll be a week or so before the first thing I talked about is true. Make sure you call her once you see it."
"Thanks for the cases, Melissa!"
"Thank you," I wave to her.
"No problem, though I would keep it safe," she waves, and opens the door, just to be bombarded by tons of flashes and yells.
Closing the door with her back to the door, and bags dropped on the ground, she takes a deep sigh.
"Darn it. Thought we could walk on out, sorry about this, Alexia, Jules" she apologizes as she takes out a Pokeball and returns her Absol and Fennekin, "Welp time for plan B. Help me up, Tera."
"Told you we should've left earlier," she replies.
"Well, you can blame him," Melissa gestures her head to her strap of pokeballs.
"Uhh, what are you two doing?"
"Going into the vents, it's like the only way out of here if they(italizice) are here."
"What? So is that how you manage to disappear without a trace?"
Well isn't she a little smart, though I wonder how Elysa and I will get out of here...
"How long have you been doing this?"
"Ehh ever since I got more popular," she grunts, as she pulls down the large vent on the ceiling, and climbs in as her friend lifts her up, and starts to toss up the bags, "Anyways, nice to see ya again, Junu. Though you should really join the team, you'll do great!" she chirps.
"You know that how?"
"Pah, I know my stuff, also I happened to hack into the conversations of my sis and your dad. Bring the cover, with you."
"I guess bye then?"
"Yeah, see ya, you three," she crawls further into the vent, as her friend literally jumps and climbs into the vent, and closes it back up.
"Is she usually like that?" Elysa points up.
"In a way, come on let's get out of here before they close the gates to the academy."
"Why is she like that," I mutter.
"Well, I guess that is one way to get out of the way of her fans."
