S.R. Academy Years Ch2: First Day of School

"Crystal! Wake up! Come on now! School is going to start in an hour! If you don't wake up right now, you won't have a chance to eat breakfast!"

Opening my eyes, Elysa is covered in towels, while brushing her teeth.

"Mor- morning, Elysa," I yawn, rubbing my eyes of sleep.

"I have an extra class before school, so I have to leave early. I'm sure you know where to go, right? And you won't go back to sleep?"

"Yeah, someone is going to show me around, since we have the same periods."

"Alright then, I'm going to dress, and then you could use the bathroom."

"Okay," I reply, shoving off my blankets, careful to not move Kayla.

Waiting for her to finish up in the bathroom, I take out a new set of clean clothes, and double check to see if I have everything I need in my bag. By the time I'm done checking, she comes out and leaves with a good luck and good-bye. Taking my turn to wash up and dress, I come out to see Kayla lying in the windowsill, sitting where the sun shines into the room.

"Good morning, Kayla."

"Espeon," she mews.

"Well, you ready? The official first day of school."

"Espeon," she walks to the door and waits for me.

"Okay, off to breakfast!"

"Es."

Leaving the dorms Ashley stands near the entrance and waves me down as soon as she spots me.

"How are you not cold? It's probably one of the coldest Septembers in Kalos!" she looks to me as I wear short pants as well as a short-sleeved shirt.

"Huh? Oh... well, it's usually colder in Sinnoh so I guess it's normal for me."

"I guess that's that, then. Come on, let's get some breakfast."

Nodding my head in agreement, we head over to the cafeteria. Grabbing berries, fruit, a bagel, and orange juice for myself. While Ashley gets three pancakes, few fruit, and orange juice. As for our Pokemon (Ashley having a Chikorita), she gives her Pokefood, while I give Kayla most of my berries (since Kayla doesn't like Pokefood in the morning and prefer berries).

"Was it good?"

"Yeah, that was nice."

"Good to hear, come on, we'll be a little early to class, but might as well be early, right? Also, as long as your Pokemon behaves, they'll be allowed to stay out all day. Of course there are the consequences if they misbehave."

"Okay."

Heading into the school building, it's like any other school when students are early all socializing with friends. Doesn't faze me too much, considering I'm the new kid on campus, even though it's the first day of a new school year. But most of them know each other from previous years, so other than the new students like me, everyone has a gist of knowing each other.

"Come on, it's this classroom," she leads me into the second to last classroom at the end of the hallway.

"Okay..."

"The teacher's name is Mr. Phillips, just so you know, and he sometimes work with Ms. Hale."

Taking a seat for the class, Ashley sits next to me near the front of the class and Kayla on my laps. Soon enough, the school bell rings for classes to start, and other students start to pile in. With the amount of other students here that I don't know... I find myself doing an old habit that I thought I got over of - twirling my hair with a finger.

"Alright class, most of you already know me from last year, but for those who have joined us this year, I'm Mr. Phillips," he announces with a vibrant energy. "What we will be learning in this class is how to take care of your Pokemon, as well as going into some other facts of Pokemon such as evolution. For today, we'll be introducing ourselves, so after I take attendance, we'll be playing some games to get to know each other."

While he takes attendance, other students socialize with each other. Even Ashley as I sit in my seat silently, shuffling about a little.

"Hello there Crystal, enjoying the school so far?" Mr. Phillips asks me as he happens to check role.

"Y-yes, Mr. Philips. I've been enjoying it so far here..." I mumble a little.

"Well, trust me, Crystal, but you'll have a great time here," he reassures me, and starts to say something but quickly looks up. "Hey! Thomas, Luke, you don't want detention on the first day, now do you?"

"No Mr. Philips," the boys cohesively apologize, but with a small giggle.

As each period goes by, it's the same for each class, sit quietly in my seat, and not talk to anyone. Fifth period ends, and Ashley leads me to the stadium, whereas the battling class takes place. Entering the large stadium, students sit or stand about, waiting until the class starts.

"Students, I am Mr. Young, and I'm your battling teacher, as well as the coach for the school's battling team. Unlike most of your other classes where you just sit and socialize and play games, we'll be battling each other today," his voice echoes throughout the stadium.

With small cheers going about, he waits until everyone settles down, "However, I'll be assigning on who you battle, understood? Good, now then, separate into two groups. Those without a Pokemon please group to my left, and those with Pokemon already, group on my right side."

With some shuffling around, I notice that the girl from a day ago is in my period.

"Alright, now then, those of you who don't have Pokemon, go over there and pick a Pokemon to use today. As for those who have at least one, I will call out who you will be battling, Crystal, Zoey, and Mia. You three are going against Junu."

"Umm Mr. Young? Against Junu, all three of us?" Zoey -the girl from yesterday- speaks up, a big smile on her face.

"Ms. Rochon, did you not hear me?" he yells. "I said all three of you are going to battle Junu. And only you three are allowed to use two Pokemon per person, understood?"

"Yes sir," she giggles a little with a friend of hers, who also was chosen from the looks of it.

Looking around, I see Junu already walking to the middle battling arena: the biggest in the stadium. Walking over to the opposite of the arena, Zoey notices me as her face instantly goes to disgust, and starts to walk to me with her friend.

"Just a sec, you are Crystal Quin, correct?" Mr. Young looks to me as I walk past.

"Y-yes, Mr. Young," I quietly answer.

"Welcome to the school, now do be careful of Junu, just because you guys have the upper hand, don't expect an easy win."

Walking over to our side of the arena, the battle starts. They call out their Pokemon, as I lower Kayla down, and Junu releases Lock and lowers a cross-eyed Bidoof.

"Eww, he owns that Bidoof?" Zoey exclaims.

From the statement, the Bidoof just tumbles to it's back and sticks it's legs in the air, but knowing from yesterday - Cerin must be having fun again.

"Okay guys, we should get the Bidoof first! Cloud, quick attack, Rose, flamethrower!' Zoey commands her Vulpix and Skitty.

As the other two girls command their Pokemon, I too command Kayla to use swift - since her psychic attacks wouldn't have any effect. Unlike the others, I command Kayla to attack Lock instead.

"Lock, future sight, Cerin, attract the ones who you can."

The 'Bidoof' just lies upside down as Lock takes a few steps to the side before creating his attack. As Zoey and her friend's Pokemon reach the Bidoof, they simultaneously attack it -but to hit nothing but air. While as the attack from Kayla manages to graze past Lock as he dodges it with ease.

"What? Where did it go?"

"Cerin, the Skitty, Froakie, and Swablu."

Hearts appear behind the small group, and start to surround the called out Pokemon.

"Hey! Mia, try to get yours to attack! Rose, flamethrower on the Absol! Cloud use attract back!"

Infatuated, the three Pokemon don't attack while the Vulpix makes an attack to the Absol. Which reluctantly lands... but turns into a wisp of purple particles.

Seeing what he plans I look towards Kayla, "Kayla, swift in the direction of the ones who are infatuated!"

"What? You're on our side! What are you doing?"

Ignoring her and her friend complaining, I look to Junu who tenses up a little.

"Cerin, dark pulse, Lock, night shade."

As swift flies through the air to the group, it manages to hit something. However, Cerin manages to take the hit and charges up a dark ball of energy in front of her mouth. Then fires it to the group, whereas the Vulpix is away from the attack.

"Kayla, dodge the Absol!"

Knowing the move, I realize that it isn't going for Kayla, but the Vulpix. With a strike, the Vulpix faints, as Cerin and Lock sit down, relaxed.

"There's our chance, Cloud use scratch!"

Struggling to even stand, white things start to appear from above. Orbs like feasting eyes, move to our Pokemon, making all of them faint, besides Kayla, who manages to still stand. Knowing that I can't do anything, Cerin runs up to Kayla, while she gets ready to take the hit...

Yet no attack comes, instead, Cerin sits next to Kayla, and starts to talk to her.

"Hey! There's our chance! Quick you stupid Espeon, Psychic!"

"Won't do anything," I mutter, but more to myself.

"Come on, are you deaf or something?" Zoey's friend yells. "She said use Psychic!"

"Hey, why don't you tell your deaf Espeon to attack the thing?"

"S-she can't...."

"What was that? I told you to do something, now do it!"

"Yeah! You heard her, do it!" her friend backs her up, as both of them start to come closer to me.

"Cerin, shadow ball," Junu commands, as soon as he commands, a dark ball goes between the girls and me, nearly touching Zoey on the nose.

"Are you crazy?!" she quickly turns to Junu, who moved over to Kayla, and gently petting her.

"No, I trust her enough to know that she could aim."

"And when did you become so serious in battling? I thought you were always the weakest in the school. You were fine as you were before; a nobody."

"Junu! Come over here and explain to me why a shadow ball nearly hit me?" Mr. Young calls out.

Picking Cerin up, he walks past us, with Lock and Kayla following behind him. She looks up to me, and gives me a feeling that I too should follow him.

"Hahaha! Looks like the serious boy got in trouble! Hey! Where do you think you're going?"

Ignoring her, I continue to follow Junu (while twirling my hair in a more nervous manner) right up to Mr. Young, "Crystal, I just said Junu only."

"She was being harassed by Zoey and her friend, Mr. Young," he puts in some annoyance when he said the teacher's name.

Pondering on what he said, Mr. Young speaks up again, "Very well, for the rest of this period, Crystal you're partnered up with Junu. Since the rest of the class already have partners.

"Umm... okay, Mr. Young..."

"Both of you are not in trouble, but you have a free period next, right Junu?"

"Yes."

"Good, you two go ahead and battle."

As soon as Mr. Young finishes, Junu starts walking off to another partnered group - who managed to win, and waiting for another partnered group to battle them. Making me having to jog a little over to him. This continues on through the period, every battle we win... though Junu would do most of the work.

When the period bell rings, Mr. Young dismisses us, and as we leave, Junu stays behind.

"So, what happened earlier?"

"Umm... nothing much..."

"You sure? You went to the teacher, and with Junu."

"A miss aimed shot," I answer, hastening my pace a little.

"Ah, okay. Well, I don't have the last period with you, but it happens to be on the way for my class. Come on!"

Personally, I didn't want to have an eighth period, but one of the electives here caught my eye - baking. Before I tried and asked mom to teach me, but she said that she too didn't know how to bake (or even cook in that manner). Though it is a semester class, so I won't be in here for the entire year. Following Ashley still, she heads to the cafeteria, but instead of going in through the normal way, she leads me behind to the back door.

"It's here," she points to the door, "I gotta go, see ya later."

Waving back to her, I open the door to see other students -mostly girls- sitting around large rectangular tables. With class starting soon, I take a seat in one of the empty tables, and wait for class to start. With the bell ringing, everyone starts to quiet down as the teacher clears her throat.

"Alright everyone, my name is Mrs. Smith, and today, we'll be getting to know each other. Especially if you haven't been to this school before or if it's your first year, I suggest that you go on and greet each other."

While everyone else talks and greet about, I sit silently once more and pet Kayla on the head (while she lies on the table). Only to be noticed by someone, as she comes my way, and sit in one of the empty chairs across from me. She looks like she just joined the school - also from the small name tag indicating what year she is in - first year.

"Hi there! I'm Teresa!" she introduces herself with a rather hyper energy.

"I'm Crystal," I silently reply, continuing to pet Kayla.

"That's a really cool Espeon you have there! Mind if I pet it?"

"Sure, though be careful..."

She walks around the table, and when she stands next to me, Kayla looks up to her. Reaching a little nervous hand, Teresa then starts to scratch Kayla on the head; where she really doesn't like to be scratched. Quickly moving away from her and then glares at Teresa.

"Oh... umm she doesn't like to be pet there by other people."

"Ohh, sorry there Espeon, I didn't know," she tries to reach her hand back out.

Looking up to me, Kayla gives off a small quiet sigh, and walks closer to Teresa and sits in front of her, head down. This time, Teresa scratches the left side of her neck. Enjoying the he scratches much better than the one on the head.

"Alrighty then class, for today, we'll start learning about the basics of baking."

The class goes by rather fast, and that leaves about a good two or so hours until dinner comes around. So I go to the school building and look at one of the bulletins about clubs. From the battling club to fashion related clubs and sports, there's a more vast amount of clubs here than the one in Unova.

"What should we do, Kayla," I look down to my arms.

Gazing the wall herself, her gem glows glows light purple, and a paper on the wall corresponds to it. Holding the paper in front of my face, it reads 'Battling 101'. Unlike the battling club, the club teaches you into more depth of battling, and rules.

"Well, I guess we can try it. Seeing that you can leave a club if you don't want to leave..."

"Espeon!" she shouts out in agreement.

"The first meetup is today, I guess we could check it out."

Personally, I don't see us doing too well in the class, then again, it is to help soon to be trainers do well.
