S.R. Academy Years Ch1: New School and People

So... moving away from my home region, Sinnoh, and to Kalos I personally don't like it right now, leaving all my friends at one of the greatest Sinnoh academies, and right into one in Kalos. Quite some time away from my new home; which is in Santalune City, while as the academy is located in the wonderful town of Vaniville. Which leads me to live in a dorm with someone else... Which isn't much of a problem, just making new friends is going to be a little hassle for me. But what I don't understand is why mom and dad decided to move all the way to Kalos, then again, they're scientists of something, so I guess that is understandable. Unlike some parents who are scientists, always busy with work, they managed to find some time to spend with me. Also giving me my best friend; Kayla, an Espeon when i was around six - of course she was an Eevee then.

With school going to start in a few days, I start to unpack most of my possessions, and soon after packing some of it right back up. From what I hear, the one in Vaniville Town is one of the best in Kalos other than the one in Lumiose - which always get filled at a near instant. Within school, I'm only in the second year of it. Luckily enough, my parents are letting me decide on whether or not if I want to become a trainer, or become a worker. Personally -at least of now- I want to finish school (which is another three years, counting this year) and go on an adventure as a trainer, then decide then if I want to continue that or go back to school and become some kind of worker.

"Crystal! Your father found a way for you to get to Vaniville Town instead of just walking there!"

"Thanks mom, at least I won't have to pack as heavily then!"

At least that makes it much easier then. Welp, time to unpack some of the extra stuff then... well might want to keep them with me, just in case.

"Hear that, Kayla, at least we won't have to be sleeping outside."

"Es!" she exclaims, while using her psychic powers to open and take stuff out of the boxes in my room.

Finished with my room entirely by the next hour or so, I collapse onto my bed alongside with Kayla. Grabbing the piece of paper next to me, I look at the pamphlet about the academy in Vaniville Town. Nothing too much of a difference, only thing being is a more open styled campus, surrounded by more nature. Most likely better food, similar classes; due to classes being near universal (usually only thing they teach differently in regions is making food for Pokemon). Also the limit of Pokemon you may have on you; whereas here, you are allowed up to three depending on size.

"Seems nice, doesn't it, Kayla?"

"Espeon," she says softly, probably homesick as I am too.

"Hopefully we could find some good friends there."

"Es..." she tiredly mews.

"Well, have a good rest then, I'll keep packing up."

With a small tugging like feeling in my head, I know that it is her way of thanking me, a kind of bond that we created. Whenever she would feel distressed or hurt, she would use her powers to give me a small pang of pain; just some way of telling me on how she feels. Finishing up packing, I continue to read on what the pamphlet says, and before I know it, I'm also asleep.

"Hey! Crystal, wake up!"

"Mom.... it isn't even school day," I moan.

"Well, today is the day where you could sign up classes early, also a good time to get a good dorm. Trust me sweetie, you don't want to get a terrible room, unless you want one where some Durant could've infested!"

"Oooookay mom, just let me get washed up and dress," I wave a hand to the direction of her voice.

"Alright, I'll be downstairs making some breakfast for you."

As I hear her footsteps start to fade away, I just go back to sleep on the ground, not bothering to move.

"I said, get up!"

That did it, I burst up from where I lie, and nearly headbutting into mom.

"Come on sleepy-head, no time to be a Snorlax right now, you know."

"Oookay mom! I'm up!"

Stretching out, I look to my clock, which reads 7:00 A.M. still too early considering I'm on break. Shaking Kayla awake, I walk over to the bathroom, taking a little more time to wash my long black hair. Finished, I head to my room where Kayla already took out my clothes for the day. Nothing too fancy, considering it's the school's uniform; a black skirt, and a simple white button-up shirt, and the school's symbol -a sycamore tree- just above the right breast, and a black colored shoes. Unlike my school back in Sinnoh... wearing uniforms, then again, at least I won't be made fun of if their style of clothing here is different.

Heading downstairs, I eat up a rather rushed breakfast, as dad tells me that his friend would leave with or without me within an hour. Quickly packing everything into the car, we head off to the place where dad says he'll be working. I have never been on a helicopter before, but soon enough I'm enjoying the ride there, and Kayla enjoying the view we see as well. Landing about a good five minute walk from the academy, I thank the pilot as he takes off again, leaving me with my two heavy bags. Thankfully, Kayla helps me greatly, carrying the other bag, while I carry the other on my back, and read the map to make sure we were going in the right direction.

Reaching the academy, it looks more like a park than a campus, benches scattered under the trees and walkways. People and Pokemon running about, or sitting around the shadow's of trees, otherwise like me, a handful of people went about, signing up for classes - while I figure out where it is. Which happens to be at the entrance of the school building. But what makes me feel most nervous about is from the looks of it, everyone here knows each other, just hearing them all talk while I sign up for my eighth period class.

"Say, I haven't seen you before, I'm guessing that you're new to this school, right?" someone asks behind me.

Turning around, I see another girl, surrounded by her friends, looking as if they were joining some beauty contest, also with rolling backpacks, all pink and with other decorations on them. Except for the two boys standing with them, who just wears any other day clothing in Kalos.

"Y-yeah..."

"Well, let me state this first, don't bother with the boys here."

"W...why?" I ask, already what the answer is most likely going to be.

"Because, most of them are stupid, and the smart and cute ones belong to us. So stay out of our way, will you?"

"Okay," I firmly reply, not giving much care.

"Hey! I mean it! And why would you have that kind of Pokemon with you!" she bursts out laughing, followed up by her friends.

Feeling what she means, I look down to my legs where a Bidoof rubs passionately against my legs, "I-It's not mine."

"Really? Clearly it is yours, so what kind of parent gave you that?"

As if on cue, the Bidoof faces to the group, and foam sprouting from its mouth, making them shriek in fear (even the guys), and start to back away a little.

"Only crazy people are the ones who don't care of their Pokemon and have a useless Pokemon, freak!" the lead girl yelps, as the Bidoof hops a little towards them, making it funny for both Kayla and me.

Then it starts to run at them, making them run around it, and running into Kayla and I. Making us drop the bags to the ground, and a victorious yell by the group, though it quickly changed to panic as the Bidoof was right behind them. Of which some of their bags behind them stumble and tip over due to them running on the grass, but being too scared of the Bidoof, they ditch their remaining bags to move faster.

Dusting off the dirt off my clothes, I see a hand hold out for me, and take it. Looking up, the owner of the hand is a boy who is about a head taller than me, what catches my eyes more is his sea blue eyes, and hair going in all directions. Apart from that, he looks a little older than me, and have a face showing no emotion, and wearing a uniform.

"Oh... umm.. th-thank you ..."

"Crystal Quin? Crystal Quin?" someone calls out.

"Over here," I raise my hand, letting go of the boy's hand, and remembering of Kayla.

Looking down, I see that she is being helped by the Bidoof - of which didn't have rabies anymore. When it notices me looking at it, it runs past me, and climbs into the boy's arms, and onto his shoulders. With a small purple flash, a Zorua appears in place, giggling away, but settles down as the boy reaches his hand to scratch its head.

"Ah, so you are Crystal, right? I also see that you're already making friends with the new student, Junu?"

"No, Cerin went of without me, as she usually would if she wants some fun. For your information, Ashley," he flatly answers and turns around, and walks away.

"Man, why does he have to be a bummer, anyways, I'm Ashley, and I'll be helping you for the first week or so here," she says with peppy energy.

"Oh, thanks, Ashley. A-and... who was that boy?"

"He's Junu. Usually the quiet one, but really smart, only thing being that he's alone too. Only hangs around by his Zorua and Absol when they have the time. Though what I'm more curious is about his Zorua, considering they're somewhat rare.."

"Oh, thanks."

"Before I forget, here," she hands me a few pieces of paper, "Though you wouldn't have to worry too much about getting lost, since we have the same exact periods."

One of the papers shows me my periods:

1) Pokemon caring and understanding

2) Berry identification and survival skills

3) Physical fitness (Pokemon included - only if rule 23 is followed)

4) Lunch/Free period

5) Region cultures

6) Battling

7) Item identification and use (quarter class)

8) Choice of class/activity; otherwise freetime/dismissal

"So, I'm guessing the battling class would be for training on how to battle? Also, umm... what do we do once the quarter class ends?"

"Exactly, if you don't have a Pokemon, you'll be given one from the school, otherwise you have to use your own. As for the quarter class, once it ends, it'll be a break period. Also, that's a very cute Espeon you have! Not many here have Eevee evolutions," she kneels down, and scratches Kayla's chin, as she lets her.

"Thanks, so... about the tour of the school?"

"Sure! This way, we'll start with the dorms," she waves me to follow.

By the time the sun is right above us, Ashley finishes showing me around the campus. The campus having multiple battling arenas outside, though the main stadium is behind the school building, boy's dorms are on the left side of the school building, and girl's to the right. What's more special about this academy, is the extra side buildings; a small shop for snacks or common supplies, an indoor swimming pool, a greenhouse and the cafeteria.

"Okay, and that's the entire campus we have here, also, here you go," she tosses me a set of keys with a room number, "Everyone shares a room with at least one other just so you know, though there are those few that get a room by themselves. As for classes, it won't start till after the day after tomorrow. So in the meantime, you could walk around campus, battle others, or just do some reading in the library. Anything that could fill time. I might see you again tomorrow, but if you don't see me, I'll meet you at the entrance of the girl's dorms when school starts and guide you where the classes are when school starts."

"Thanks again, Ashley."

"No problem, now I gotta go. Oh, and before I forget, you are allowed to eat outside on the campus, as long as you pick up your trash, see ya later!"

"Bye Ashley," I wave to her, "So, what do you think we should do now, Kayla?"

"Esp," she yawns and gives me a feeling of sleepiness.

"Yeah, that sounds nice, and we could meet our roommate I guess. If more people are like Ashley, I think it'll be making friends easier."

Starting to head to the girl's dorms, I notice Junu leaning against a tree, sleeping with his Zorua in his laps, and an Absol who is awake and looking around. Thinking it over, I decide to go to him and actually thank him for earlier.

"Come on Kayla, let's say a proper thank you to him."

"Espeon," she nods in agreement.

Walking in his direction, the Absol starts to stare at me, and when I get close, it starts growling. Making Junu wake up, and look at the direction that the Absol is growling at. Seeing that it is just me and Kayla, he pets his Absol to make it calm down, and looks to me.

"Yeah?"

"U-umm, I'm... really thankful for what you did earlier," I hastily tell.

"You're welcome, though you can thank Cerin, she usually runs from me when she sees those girls," he replies, and softly pets the sleeping Cerin.

"What... what year are you in?" I kindly ask.

"This year I'm in my second."

"Really? You look like you should be in your third or fourth."

"I should be in my third, but I joined school late. And sorry if I'm being rude, but you mind going away? Lock here doesn't like other people."

"Oh, sure... umm... nice meeting you, Junu."

"Yeah, you too."

Happy with the greeting and thank you, I walk rather happily to the dorms. Entering the main entrance, I search for my room. Upon finding it and entering the room, I see another person inside.

"Hello," she greets.

"H-hi," I wave back

"I'm Elysa."

"I-I'm Crystal."

"So, I heard that you moved from Sinnoh, right? Are the academies there nice?"

"Yeah... though from the looks and feels of it so far, I feel like this academy are much better than there..."

"Though only difference is that you made friends there since you were younger, right? Well don't worry, I know how that feels. At least you can have a new friend starting now."

"Thanks Elysa... You.... you have a Pokemon yourself?"

"Yeah, I do, and that's a very nice Espeon by the way. Just give me a sec... ah here's where I put it."

Pressing the button, and out appears a Chespin, looking curiously at Kayla and me.

"Henry, these two are our roommates, Crystal and... uh.."

"Oh, Kayla, I almost forgot," I finish her sentence.

"Chespin!"

Spending the next few hours just talking away and getting used to my new friend as she isn't too different from the friends I had back in Sinnoh; we talk about what we wanted to do after school, and before we know it, dinner comes around.

"Come on! Before dinner actually starts, it usually gets crowded, so it's best to get there early. Even though it's still a few days when it really starts, it gets crowded still.

"Right! Let's go."

Running out of the dorms and to the cafeteria, I could already see a small line forming outside. By the time we get to the line, we have another good five minutes, so we continue on conversating on what we were talking about earlier. Soon enough, a small Shinx runs under us, and ramming into Henry.

Getting mad, he starts to ramble something at it. Soon enough, the Shinx starts to cry and cries very loudly too.

"Henry! What did you say? Say you're sorry!"

"Che- chespin!" he exclaims, flailing one of his arms at the Shinx.

As soon as he points, the Shinx stops crying, and runs back to where it appeared. Keeping an eye on it, it climbs up the closest person - who is Junu. When the Shinx climbs into his arms, it tries it's best to hide.

"Oh hey Junu!"

"Elysa," he greets back, and walking up behind us in line.

"You should really keep an eye on Cerin you know."

"I can't help it, she runs off on her own."

"Still, at least you could follow her, before she gets you into trouble."

"She doesn't, she knows when to be playing or not," he then pets his Zorua.

"Zoro!" Cerin shouts, and using one of her forepaws to point ahead of us.

Turning around, we see that the line started to move, so we follow the line and get our food. Deciding to eat outside of the cafeteria, we turn around to see if Junu was following us to ask if he wanted to join us. He wasn't there, as if he just vanished, but it really didn't matter. We find a spot near the girl's dorms, and eat our really good dinner.

"Wow that was really good!"

"Yup, all meals are pretty much like this. Say, we gave some time before curfew, want to go down to the stadium to battle? There probably will be others there too, considering that all academies have battle clubs and teams."

"Sure. Also would be nice to see others battle too."

Following her to the stadium, I could already hear the sounds of battling happening not too far from the stadium. Fully inside, I see the amount of battles that is currently taking place; one with a Turtwig going against an Aipom, Marill vs a Litleo, and the one that seems to get nearly everyone's attention is the battle that's doing doubles. Looking at the trainers, I see to the right side, a boy, looking frustrated, and from what Elysa tells me, is one of the best in the school with battling (and usually in the batting team; Leo), while on the other, is Junu, looking all calm.

It's Cerin and Lock vs a Kirlia and Machop, not too good for Junu. But wonder why Leo is having more a troubled face than him.

"Kyrie, Disarming Voice, Mark, Low Sweep on the Absol!" he commands his Pokemon with a little hesitation.

"Lock, Future Sight and dodge. Cerin, Shadow Ball at the Kirlia," Junu commands calmly.

Following their master's commands, Lock uses Future Sight and dodges the Machop as soon as finishing the move. While as the Kirlia uses Disarming Voice; as the attack flies to both of Junu's Pokemon, it completely misses Lock, and hits Cerin - but as the attack lands on her, she vanishes. Next thing I see is that Cerin is right behind the Kirlia, and uses a point blank range Shadow Ball, making making it faint.

"Cerin, scatter, and hide the two of you, Lock, Psycho Cut."

"Mark, Detect!"

With a small shield glowing around the Machop, it blocks the few few attacks of Lock, as multiple Lock and Cerin surround the lonely Machop. As soon as the protection falls, orbs from above start to appear and attack the Machop, after the attack, it falls to the ground. An eerie silence goes through the crowd, as Leo returns both of his fainted Pokemon, and walk across the battlefield. Then walks next to Junu, and whispers something in his ear, and then looks to the crowd.

"Alright, who wants to go against me next? Right after I go and heal my Pokemon."

With that simple question, everyone starts say, 'Me! Me!' While as Junu walks over to the bleachers, and lie down with Cerin on top of his stomach, and Lock on the ground. Surprised ourselves, we look at him until someone notices us, and asks me for a battle - which I answer in a shy nod. We then spend the next few hours battling others in the stadium, and soon enough off to bed.

What a great -technically- first day of school, hope it'll always be like this.
