I'll never choose a Turtwig as my partner again…

It all started when I was playing Pokemon Platinum, I had just beaten Crasher Wake and gotten my 4th gym badge and I wanted to train my Pokemon a bit and get them ready for the next gym battle. I decided to train my Grotle, since it was Level 31 and close to evolving. I liked Torterra and wanted it to evolve as soon as possible, but a few minutes after we had started training, I noticed that something was off with my Pokemon. It wouldn't stop making it's cry, as if it was trying to tell me something. I liked reading Pokepastas, so I got the sense that something was VERY wrong here, but I decided to continue with the game to see what would happen. I should've taken it out and thrown it away. A text box popped up: “Grotle wants to learn Death Leaf!” I thought to myself. ‘Hang on… that isn't a real move!’ But without even clicking anything, another text box popped up. “Grotle has forgotten Curse. Grotle learned Death Leaf!”  I sighed. Curse was a good move, but hopefully Death Leaf was good too. I checked the move’s stats:

Power: 666

Accuracy: 100

The user summons leaves of darkness and attacks the target.

There was something about that number, 666, that I couldn't remember, but it sparked fear in my soul. Oh well, at least the move didn't seem THAT bad. It had more power than Curse. More power than I'd ever seen in a single move, actually… I decided to test out the move on a wild Pokemon and walked around in the tall grass.  “A wild Hoothoot appeared!” The normal battle scene played. There was something off about my Grotle sprite, but I couldn't place my finger on it. I moved to the Fight button and selected Death Leaf. “Grotle used Death Leaf! Wild Hoothoot fainted!” I sighed in relief, it didn't kill the Pokemon like I thought it would. When I got back to the Overworld, the Grotle sprite jumped up and down. Another text box appeared. “Grotle wants to evolve into something other than Torterra!” What? What else could it possibly evolve into? A ‘Yes' or ‘No' option popped up. I chose ‘Yes', fearful of what would happen if I clicked ‘No'. The Grotle sprite jumped up and down again and a little happy icon appeared above its head. I smiled and walked around in the tall grass, hoping to get another wild Pokemon. It took a bit longer to encounter than the Hoothoot, but I shrugged it off since the chance of encountering a wild Pokemon is pretty much random. “A wild Pidgey appeared!” This time there was definitely something different about Grotle’s sprite, it was smiling, but there wasn't much else different about it. I noticed that the Pidgey sprite looked scared, though. I didn't care. “Grotle used Death Leaf! Wild Pidgey fainted!” The ‘level up’ sound played and Grotle’s level went up to 32. “What? Grotle is evolving!” The evolution scene played. It looked like Grotle was evolving into Torterra after all. ‘Maybe it was just testing me,’ I thought. ‘Maybe nothing bad will happen.’ But when I saw the sprite, I knew that it wasn't what I expected. “Congratulations! Your Grotle has evolved into §Гθ°¥·Ω§μΩ!” Only in shaping design was it similar to the Torterra I wanted so badly. The color was darkened considerably, to an almost-black green, black where the brown would've been, and the eye color was half-green, the bottom half blood red. ‘Maybe he won't hurt me, as long as I keep him happy.’ §Гθ°¥·Ω§μΩ, as it was apparently called, made a distorted but happy Torterra call. “Why don't we get you renamed? I can't really pronounce that jumble of symbols that you're apparently called now.” I said to the small sprite that was now on the Overworld with me. I use my Staraptor, the first Pokemon I had ever caught, and flew to Eterna City, since that’s where the Name Rater was. I talked to him and selected the discolored Torterra. I decided to name it Shadow since the black on it looked like shadows coming from it. “Shadow likes his new name!” A text box had appeared and said this. I frowned slightly. Pokemon didn't usually comment on their names. Whatever made him happy, I'm good with it. But then Shadow’s battle sprite as if it was on the opposing side in a battle appeared on the screen. It’s eyes seemed to be completely blood red now. “Shadow wants to test his power!” Staraptor was sent out. I was worried that he might end up killing my Pokemon, but I battled anyway. I didn't hold anything back, even using the few status moves I kept to make it harder for him to defeat me. Shadow went first. “Shadow used Mega Drain!” I chuckled quietly as my Staraptor’s HP dropped to half. “Looks like you've got a new move.” I used Agility to raise his speed. “Staraptor’s speed sharply increased!” The turn ended and I chose Fight and Agility again. But Shadow went first and used Death Leaf. “Staraptor has died!” My eyes widened even though I was expecting that.  “Why did you kill him!?” I said to the game, even though I knew Shadow probably couldn't hear me. I sent out my Rampardos, even though Grass type Pokemon had the advantage against Rock Type Pokemon like him. “Even though he has the advantage, we can still weaken him!” I said to Rampo, the nickname I had given to it in anticipation of it's evolution. We battled and used Crunch on Shadow, which lowered his Defense, then after that, Zen Headbutt was used while Rampo was still hanging on with the small bit of HP after Shadow’s attacks. After Shadow used Death Leaf, just like with Staraptor, the message “Rampo has died!” appeared after Rampo was beaten. I sent out my Roserade I had nicknamed Rosey and poisoned Shadow. Shadow attacked with Death Leaf “It's not very effective…” Rosey didn't take that much damage and used Leech Seed. But it had no effect. “Dang it!” I yelled out loud. “Shadow used KILL!” “Rosey has died!” Rosey had been brutally murdered but I only saw her corpse for a second before it disappeared into the ground like a defeated wild Pokemon. I then sent out my Celebi that I had gotten from the Gamestop event. “Shadow used Leech Life!” Bloody roots and branches stabbed Celebi to death. “Celebi has died!” The corpse was shown for a second before a ungodly cry came out of it and it disappeared into the ground like Rosey did. “Only one Pokemon left…’ I thought as I looked at my party. I chose Darkness the Darkrai but I made a grave mistake…... “Shadow used a combo move of Leech Life, Mega Drain, Death Leaf, and KILL!” “Darkrai has died!” Darkness’s bloody and mangled sprite looked back at me for a second then disappeared into the ground after making a weak cry. “Shadow is happy!” My trainer sprite appeared again on the Overworld and Shadow looked very happy. I saw another text box appear saying “Would you like to add Shadow to your party again?” I couldn't choose. On one hand, it would be cool to have a Pokemon as strong as him and not have him get angry at me, but on the other hand, I wasn't sure if having a glitched Pokemon on my team was such a good idea. What if he corrupted my save file? I decided to choose “No.” Shadow’s sprite looked sad. “Shadow wants to be with you!” I chose “No” again. “Shadow is asking if this is his fault.” I chose “No”. “Would you please tell me why you don't want to have me on your team?” Shadow said in a human like voice. A couple of choices appeared. “Record message, Check Mic, Talk”. I chose Talk and told Shadow why I didn't want him on my team but I told him that I loved him. Shadow looked angry. “LIAR!!!!” “It's true! I do love you, but the fact that you KILL your opponents is a bit scary… Maybe if you promise not to kill anyone anymore, I'll let you back on my team! Please don't kill me!” Shadow looked angry still. “You don't really love me.” He used KILL on my character. My DS turned off after that. I closed it and put it on my desk. I went to the kitchen, grabbed a snack, and went back to my room. I looked at my bed and saw that the Torterra Pokedoll I had now looked like Shadow with a note that said ‘Even if you don't love me, I'll still love you.’ I cried a bit and hugged the Shadow Pokedoll gently.
